I can't believe Wilwood in Salt Lake City has been hiding from me for years. This place just jumped straight into my top 10 restaurants. First off, the roasted beets might honestly be the best thing on the menu (which sounds ridiculous until you try them). They come with greens tossed in a dressing that is absolutely mouth-watering, I could eat a whole bowl of just the greens. Next was the mushroom toast, layered with the creamiest goat cheese spread that perfectly balances the earthy mushrooms. But the real showstopper was the pork belly. I've never had pork belly like this before. They serve it in these perfect little cubes and when you bite into one it literally bursts with flavor. It's paired with green apples, which might sound unexpected, but it's an incredible combination. If you've never had pork with green apples before, you're missing out, it's the perfect sweet, crisp contrast. We finished the night with beignets and an affogato. My affogato had butter pecan ice cream with a rich espresso poured over the top - simple and absolutely delicious. We were tended to by our server through out the night. 5 star service, 5 star food, and the restaurant was beautiful inside and out. Can't wait to sit out on the patio in the summer! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. Trust me, you won't regret it. read more

Tastes like a really good home cooked meal, made by an excellent cook. Maybe like something you'd get in the South. The fried chicken was yummy. The cinnamon was unexpected but good. The Wagyu steak was good as well. A bit salty (I love salt, so it was fine for me). Because of that they gave us a free dessert which was not necessary, but really kind. So grateful they did because the pound cake with peaches and whip cream was excellent. I've never had a better pound cake. The portions are really big too. Worth the price. Would absolutely return. The only down side was that it was incredibly hot in the restaurant. It was uncomfortable. Maybe sit outside? It needs A/C desperately. Other than that, we will be back. read more

Haven't had a great meal like this in a very long time! Went for an early birthday dinner for my hubby. We came basically right as they were opening with reservations. The restaurant is a quaint what always to be a former house with an open kitchen concept. The staff were all friendly and attentive. We ordered the beet salad, fried olives, pork belly, fried fish and the cheesecake for dessert. The portions were big and everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The pork belly was so crispy and was mixed with potato wedges on a bed of greens with slices of radishes, apples and grapes. I've never had that combination before but it works! The fish came with Cole slaw on a bed of hand cut fries and was so flaky and crispy. The beet salad was refreshing with hints of sweetness. The olives were good but not my favorite just a lot of saltiness. The cheesecake was delicious with a berry compote and whipped cream. Unfortunately had to deduct one star due to how stifling hot it was. I understand it was because of the open kitchen concept but I don't think they had any a/c on which made our toddler cry out from the heat and I think the combination made her get sick in the car afterwards. We went to Wildwood in the Aves in Salt Lake City for date night tonight, and it was amazing. Parking is street parking, and we easily found a spot. We made a reservation and were the first ones there, so they let us choose a table. We sat outside on their beautiful patio, complete with string lights and ivy. Our server, Thomas, did a great job taking care of us. For cocktails, we enjoyed the Cucumber Smash, Avenues Margarita, Tamarind Sour, and Rose Gin and Tonic. They were all delicious, but the Cucumber Smash stole the show. For appetizers we had the Mushroom Toast, Gambas, and Fried Olives. All were good but my personal favorite bite of food was the Mushroom Toast. For mains, we got the Pork Belly and Chicken Hash. We enjoyed both of these, even though the Chicken Hash was a bit heavy. No room for dessert. We took a bunch of leftovers home with us. Overall, great meal, great ambience, and great service. We're excited to try this place again! read more

I finally made it to Wildwood! I've been wanting to try this restaurant since I moved here last year. And it was so delicious!! My friend I ended up sitting outside which was delightful. Our server was Lauren who was so nice even when we asked for endless iced tea! We choose to have all appetizers which was a great idea. The wings?? Are some of the best wings I've ever had. Super crispy on the outside but meat was tender inside and tons of flavor too. The Mac and cheese was delicious! The best salad was okay but too many greens that seemed a bit wilted or maybe too much dressing. Also, we had the shishito peppers and the dipping sauce was delish! Finally, we had the flourless cake and bread pudding and both were DIVINE!!!! All in all it was a great night. We will definitely be coming back regularly! read more

Stopped by Wildwood on a Thursday evening for dinner with a group. Wildwood is nestled in the lower Avenues neighborhood of Salt Lake City that converted a house into a restaurant. It's quaint and has a very homey feel inside, like you're eating at a relative's house. This immediately gave me a feel of relaxation and helped induce conversation. Great place for. Date or family meal. Parking is tricky as it's all residential street parking so be prepared to walk a bit if you come on a busy day. I made a reservation, which I'd recommend given how small it is, and we were seated and greeted quickly. Our server let us know about the veal cutlet special, which did sound good and I'll probably try next time. To start we ordered the mac and cheese and fried olives. The olives had a nice textured crunch from the breading with a delightful briney saltiness that would pair well with a beer. The Mac and cheese lacked the thick cheesiness I personally prefer that you'd find at a backyard bbq; the kind you can cut like a cake. It was a slightly water cheese lacking sufficient salt but did have delightful fried onions that help save it from being totally forgettable. On the recommendation from the server I opted for the burger and fries. The burger comes topped with thick cut bacon, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and a mayo based sauce. It's a large burger so I cut it in half and it was quite a sloppy meal. I wasn't a fan of all the juices pouring out over my hands though the burger was respectable and accompanied by good French fries. The fry sauce was a bit unique as it came in a single small cup with Mayo on one half and a mildly spicy red sauce on the other. A sauce can make fries incredible but this sauce was subpar. My wife and mother ordered the fried chicken, which I sampled. Certainly better than my burger. The mashed potatoes and greens were executed to perfection. Soft and creamy. The chicken was perfectly fried and came with two pieces. The sweetness from the chicken snd what appeared to be raisins was unexpected and I personally wasn't a huge fan. Sweet chicken with creamy mashed potatoes doesn't pair as well as say sweet chicken with salt fries, but hey, it seems a popular dish with the other patrons and my wife and mother loved it. My father ordered the mussels and frites, which I too sampled. The mussels were excellent and by far the best dish on the table. It came with a mildly spicy green curry sauce that was so good you might drink it. The sauce these fried came with was much better. It was velvety and savory. We finished the meal off with an affogato and the beignets. Affogato was silky and sweet and had small pieces of walnuts nestled inside the ice cream. The beignets were fluffy and a tad sweet for me but the real winner was the thick whipped cream and chocolate sauce. With a nice cup of coffee that would make a fine start to any day. Overall, I'd rate this place a 3.5 as the food presentation was excellent but the favors failed to meet the visual expectations. I did like the ambiance and the service and appreciate the uniqueness of the restaurant in the neighborhood. It reminds me of one of my favorite restaurants in SLC that closed, Tradition. I certainly plan to come back and give it another shot. Portions are generous so if you're nearby it's with a try. read more

Wildwood is one of my favorites in SLC. I live in the Avenues, and am transported every time I visit. I feel like I'm in a different city, I love the ambiance. We loved their wings (spicy), lamb (well spiced) and beet salad (fresh). - the chicken hash was a lighty fried chicken salad patty with this rich and creamy white sauce. It was so tasty. I loved every bite of it. - My husband got the pork belly that had these lovely shishito peppers. It also had grapes and apples that you may not think would go well with the pork but it cut out some of the richness of the meat and made for a well balanced bite. - well priced and generous portion desserts. Save room for the bread pudding The not so good - service was clunky. We waited a few minutes after walking in to this small restaurant to be greeted. We were immediately seated and opted to sit on their patio since it was such a nice day. We ordered theee items: the burrata salad, the wings, and their Desert Mountain burger. They were all so good and everything was super flavorful, but if you had to order one of the three items, get the burrata salad! Hidden Gem in the middle of the Aves, Cascade provided my service and was exceptional, personable , prompt and friendly. Entree are large portions and crafted with care by the kitchen. The jalapeños coleslaw on the fish and chips is to die for , make sure to get the bread pudding especially if you value southern desserts. Even with a reservation you have to wait for a table to get up and go before your table is ready which i understand since it's such a small place. They don't really have a waiting area so you kind of hang out in the doorway which is challenging with people already there and people leaving. However once sat, service is great but busy. The food is really fresh and delicious. As always we started with the shrimp in that excellent sauce that I put over the Mac and cheese! Yum. My table ordered carrots and the squash soup which were very unique but good. The ribs are really delicious too but didn't order this time. Great restaurant. Ambiance was quite loud, but it is acceptable since it is an open kitchen. Service was prompt and thorough, we were welcomed in and seen out. Food was delicious, for apps we got the shishitos, Mac and cheese, and lamb pops. All were good, I was a little surprised by the lamb pops, since I was expecting the bone in type, these were more like a skewer. Still tasty though. For entrees, we had the fried chicken, which had a unique wintery spice flavor, the muscles and frites, great, lots of fries, and stroganoff, which was very solid as well. First let me say that the place was really cute, especially the patio area. The inside where we sat was so saturated with oily exhaust that you could barely take a breath and it was difficult enjoy the cute atmosphere. My clothes and hair reeked of it when I got home. The burrata was tasty but on a bed of thinly sliced cucumbers and pesto and nothing was served with it. No bread or crackers to eat it with and not even a spoon to get the pesto out of the plate. It was delicious but would have been spectacular with a bit of bread for the cheese and pesto. The cucumbers were sliced so thin that they were difficult to get out of the plate with a fork. The fish was very overcooked and rubbery inside the thick batter. The fries that weren't over-cooked were good and I love a natural cut fry. Overall, I might come back if I could sit outside to avoid the exhaust fan issues, but I would not order the fish and chips again. In addition they have 2 kinds of vodka but very limited mixers...no cranberry juice. Just a bit weird. Wine list was good. read more

Very frustrated with this place Food: Mushroom toast was good, but not for the price. I liked it, but my husband found mushrooms way too vinegar-ish, failing to be balanced out by goat cheese. Chicken hash was uneatable and had to be returned. The sauce was watery and had a weird aftertaste of evaporated milk. The chicken tasted like it was from a can. Ribs were above average. The sauce and fries were amazing. Some parts of the ribs were extremely dry. The fact that ribs came out in 5 minutes, also makes me suspect that they were made earlier in the day. Fish and Chips is another dissapointment. There was more bread on the fish, than fish itself. Ambiance: Very cute patio. The inside, on the other hand, looks really bad and old. If I had an important event to celebrate, I would make sure to reserve a table on the outside and in advance, as it is pretty small. Service: Great service, very polite. We took the suggestion from a friend and only ordered appetizers and desserts and were so pumped. The gambas... I could have eaten 4 plates of that myself it was so damn good! The beets, with the yogurt and cinnamon..chef's kiss. The croquettes, fried perfectly and light. The Mac n cheese... Ok let's get this on paper.. I am usually NOT impressed by Mac n cheese and it usually ends up being just meh. But THIS Mac, is NEXT LEVEL! The burrata salad is fresh and yum! We had been wanting to try this place for awhile, but it really let us down. The restaurant itself is really cute and feels like a 90s coffee shop. This was the main reason we wanted to come - the menu also had some entrees that sounded yummy. We finally went tonight and the food was really disappointing. The star of my fried chicken dish was the potatoes, and the chicken was almost hard to find in the 1-2 inches of breading. The breading also just instantly slid off the chicken when you cut into it. The only reason it isn't 1 star is because my partner really liked the ribs, so maybe the fried chicken is just a mistake. The other insane part about this restaurant was the comedically large portions. The entrees were MASSIVE. It would make so much more sense to cut the entrees in half and charge 60% of the price, or just make this a tapas style restaurant. Even our plate of shishito peppers could've fed 10 people. I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and ambiance, but neither of us will return. I think the restaurant could be something better, but the food just isn't there right now. Absolutely amazing. Ambiance is perfect, especially the patio seating. Perfect size where you're not the only people dining but there's not a massive crowd and you can't hear yourself think. Food is DIVINE. We were blown away by the appetizers. Sambal wings 10/10, paired with a sesame dressing and the best coleslaw. Mac and cheese 10/10, literally took me to heaven. The concept is pretty straightforward and simple which I find charming. I agree with some of the other comments here saying everything is very salty. Usually that bothers me but I think it actually works with the dishes?? Like a salty plate of fries and mussel is kind of what I want... if that makes sense. I've eaten there a couple times in the last couple of months it's always been fantastic. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is simply divine one of the best places in Salt Lake to eat in my opinion last time we were there we had the steak and frits and the mussels and Frits tons of Fritz the flavors were amazing. The only thing I would say this place is lacking. Is it really good wine list so bring your own they'll uncork it. read more

Food: 10/10 Wings: crispy and spicy, the coleslaw was sweet and tangy, blue cheese dressing was tasty. Ribs spicy and meaty, tender, fried chicken thighs were crunchy, whipped potatoes were creamy I loved the golden Raising, orange peel and veggies it was sweet and savory. Unexpected but super delicious. Bourbon bread pudding! It was my favorite, rich, soft with caramel ice cream. Melt in your mouth. We were both full but kept eating because it was really that good! Drinks: ginger heat (spicy definitely can taste the bourbon with chili) & cucumber smash (refreshing, lime with cucumber) both excellent. I would've loved to taste the tamarind sour. We had a reservation for 9 PM, but we were seated @ 9:40pm and they comped a appetizer & dessert for our patience which we really appreciated.
