An incredibly disappointing and uncomfortable experience From the moment we arrived for my 1.5-year-old daughter's ear-piercing appointment, I had a feeling it was not going to go well. We arrived 10 minutes early, as instructed, and waited outside while the employee was visibly inside but had not yet opened the door. Her name is Samm. Rather than acknowledging us, Samm looked out and glared at me. When the door finally opened and I walked in for our 10am appointment, there was no greeting, no "good morning," and certainly no attempt to make a mother bringing in a very young child feel welcome. Samm simply looked at me, looked back down at her computer, and said, "Are you the 10 AM?" Unfortunately, that set the tone for the entire appointment. I asked whether tandem piercing was an option and was told that her coworkers had called out and that it was "going to be a long day" for her. Samm then asked my daughter's age, and when I told her she was 1.5, she proceeded to explain why this is one of the most difficult ages to pierce. I understand completely that toddlers move. What I did not understand was why the person entrusted with piercing a toddler seemed intent on repeatedly emphasizing how difficult and undesirable the appointment was going to be. The overwhelming impression was that she was unhappy to be at work that day and did not want to perform this piercing. Once she began cleaning and marking my daughter's ears, my daughter became upset. She is generally a very even-tempered, easygoing child, and of course I expected some tears during an ear piercing. What I did not expect was an environment that felt tense and uncomfortable before a piercing had even occurred. There was no sense of warmth, confidence, efficiency, or experience in working with a nervous toddler. The preparation also felt unnecessarily drawn out. We were doing everything we could to keep my daughter calm and distracted, and I was repeatedly able to settle her, but instead of moving efficiently during those windows, the process continued to drag on while we heard more commentary about why this age is difficult. Eventually, when it came time to restrain her for the piercing, my daughter continued pulling away. At that point I stopped the appointment. I said that we should reschedule because the process was becoming traumatic and that I did not feel things were moving quickly enough to make this successful. I then specifically asked whether there was someone else who was more comfortable piercing young children or whether we could schedule a tandem appointment. Samm informed me that she is was "the most senior nurse here". If that is the case, I am genuinely appalled by Rowan's standard for staffing these appointments. I chose Rowan specifically because its entire model is marketed around ear piercing performed by nurses in a safe, professional, child-friendly environment. For a company built around that premise, I expected someone who was confident and experienced with young children, understood that efficiency matters when working with a toddler, and--at an absolute minimum--could provide basic warmth and professionalism. Instead, we left without my daughter's ears pierced after an unnecessarily stressful experience with someone who appeared uncomfortable performing the service in the first place. I am extremely glad I trusted my instincts and stopped the appointment rather than forcing my daughter through an experience that did not feel right. I would not return to this location, and I would strongly caution other parents considering bringing a toddler here. read more

Had a really great experience here for our toddler! I wanted something that was reputable, moreso than the usual mall spots where they could have an inexperienced teenager piercing my girl. I was totally willing to spend the extra money for the peace of mind here. A few things that people aren't mentioning that make Rowan different: 1- the people piercing ears are all certified RNs and have training from the company on their procedures 2- everything they use is medical grade- cleaning solutions, metals, cleaning procedures, etc. 3- they have high quality choices for earrings (which yes, come at a cost) I'm disappointed that I see so many people being tough on them. We had a wonderful experience and our piercer Maddie was so sweet and walked me through the entire process, the care, etc. They were wonderful with our little one and spoiled her the entire time we were there. It is a bit pricey, but when we are talking about a lifelong piercing, I wanted quality and a good experience for my daughter and they were able to deliver this. I highly recommend coming here especially for littles! read more

We had a great experience! My teen daughter is terrified of needles so we chose here over tattoo place. People complaining about pricing have a choice it's very transparent on the website the pricing. It was clean nurse Dani and ( forget the other one ) did at the same time so she got it done fast. My daughter wanted her second hole a little higher due to wearing big first earrings and they helped move it to where she wanted and ensure it was correct before piercing . I had to pay $198 to get my 4th ear lobe piercings. I have never in my life spent over $100 for any piercings. It made me absolutely sick to my stomach. The piercing was fine, as well as the piercer. But NOT WORTH IT! Go to a normal tattoo shop!!!! Response: Yes, I understand you have prices ranging from $50-$100. But if I am coming in to get my ear lobes pierced, there is absolutely no reason that the CHEAPEST option is $198. There was no way for me to lower the price. read more

Came here to get my infants ears pierced. They charge for the piercing(done by nurses), the earrings and the ear aftercare($20). So you definitely can do better on price somewhere else. Overall it was clean and the service was good. They did test dots and ultimately I selected the spot that I thought was best for the piercings, I took away a star because we had an appointment and despite being on time we waited for about 30 minutes before being taken. Also they have minimal options for earrings. They provide a certificate of bravery when done. I'd prefer not the have the certificate and have the ear aftercare be a little less. read more

Would give a 1 and a 1/2 star if I could -- I went to Rowan for a re-piercing of my second-holes around the beginning of April after a friend mentioned to me they were reputable. When I went, I informed the two employees that I really only needed one ear re-pierced, since it was partially closed. Despite this information, I was charged for two taper piercings (which was $60 alone). The jewelry I paid for (which was $58 per earring stud and was one of their only jewelry options that was less than $200) broke yesterday after having the jewelry for only about two months. I think the price alone should deter you from going to Rowan, but if that's not enough, my piercing job was definitely not worth $60. As I said before, I informed the piercer that one of my piercings was closed, despite this, she insisted on tapering it. My piercing was entirely closed in the back, but insisted she could get the taper through, which was extremely painful as she kept pushing the stud into the back of my ear without ever entirely piercing the skin. It wasn't until I audibly said "ow" that she decided to just go with piercing my ear, which I said would probably be best to begin with. The price point and experience left me upset, but the jewelry breaking after only two months when it was $58 per stud is really what put me over the edge. You should never have to pay almost $200 for a standard ear piercing, most of which cost around $70 (and often includes the price of jewelry). Don't waste your time or money, just go to Lucky Bird instead where you'll get more experienced piercers for a quarter of the cost. read more

Kia pierced our baby's ears. She was super pleasant and patient. We are grateful for her gentleness. She did an excellent job! The store is bright, new, and clean. It was super easy to book an appointment and customer service was overall excellent. my friend and I came here for a jewelry change. My friend and I weren't acknowledged and people who came in after us were serviced. We were standing for a while and only the people who came after us were asked if they had appointments. We weren't asked if we had an appointment or etc. we ended up walking out. We did a walk in for my daughter today. While I checked in the nurse went over jewelry with her. It's a cute and very clean spot. The nurse did do good with making sure the piercing placement was right depending on what jewelry she wants to wear in the future. The nurse was very clear about care instructions.
