The store manager was extremely rude and didn't even say good morning to me. I found out that his name was Rick the store manager!!! He took my jewelry without even asking if it's okay to take my diamonds and just walked away with it. Luckily for me I am a GIA gemologist and I was also a gold and diamond buyer. Bottom Line: Gorgeous jewelry, lovely gifts and consistently friendly, no-pressure service. I've been a Smyth customer well before they came to Annapolis so I would guess close to 20 years. What I like about Smyth is that they are trustworthy and friendly, they have competitive prices and there is never any pressure to make a purchase. I've made some smaller purchases online and I've been able to pick them up in the store. I appreciate that Smyth is easily able to courier things from the Timonium or Ellicott City store to Annapolis. For larger purchase, I visit the store when I have plenty of time to try on different pieces and make a thoughtful selection. Even when I am not in the market for jewelry I enjoy popping into Smyth for their lovely collection of gifts like Scout bags, Jellycat stuffed animals and Corkcicle drinkware. Smyth's Annapolis location is in the heart of the Annapolis Towne Centre. Update: My engagement and wedding band both came from Smyth and since they were both 1 in a million, I purchased my fiancé's wedding band from here also. All three pieces are to die for!!! Not exaggerating, I kinda passed out a little when I left the store. Ha! His band is a one of a kind black gold, sleek, and covered in sapphires. So classy and stylish. It absolutely took him out of his comfort zone with so much bling, but he had to match my WOW FACTOR rings which are covered in diamonds, with a lace and fancy design. The assistance we received here was stellar! They helped us both (separately - him with my engagement ring) and us both when we chose our wedding bands. They all have impeccable taste! This store will clearly be our jewelers for life! We even added a lifetime warranty to the rings that will protect them from any issues (that we hope will never happen) but if they do arise, they will be handled. Of course, cleanings are free for life. Additionally, they have so many one of a kind pieces to select. Earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces...even small gifts and trinkets. I had been searching for an engagement ring for my girlfriend and had been to numerous jewlery stores and several websites looking for a VVS1/VVS2 princess cut diamond, over 1.0ct with an D-F color and excellent polish/symmetry. To make it even more difficult, I would not purchase anything without a GIA report number laser inscribed on the diamond. Through a month of research and visiting no less than 15 different jewlery stores/diamond retailers in the area, it had become apparent to me that I would not find what I was looking for in a retail location. I had read numerous horror stories from individuals purchasing off the internet and stopped into Smyth while in Annapolis for business. I spoke with Britney and she gave some excellent advice and began making calls to obtain the diamond I was looking for. Within an hour she found exactly what I was looking for and had it shipped to their location for inspection. I was able to view the diamond under the microscope and verify the GIA report number inscribed on the stone. After my approval, she had the stone sent out to be mounted in the setting and I was able to pick it up within a few weeks. Overall I felt the transaction went as well as I could possibly expect. I had priced hundreds of stones and setting combinations and felt I received a very fair price on the ring. Britney was extremely courteous and professional throughout the entire process and I will not hesitate to return to Smyth for our wedding bands. read more

Wonderful customer service! I took in my vintage wedding band when it lost a diamond chip. They were extremely helpful throughout the process... they replaced the diamond, identified two other chipped stones, and also some worn prongs which would probably have resulted in more lost stones if they hadn't been addressed. Horrible service with absolutely no communication or follow up on their part. Came in March 5th. Ordered two rings with deposit. A week later we got no confirmation so we stopped by. We were told they didn't even know if it was ordered or not. Manager said whatever place he needed to contact was not open but he would take care of us. Never got a call from him. Stopped by a week later and we're told again that they didn't know what was going on but they would definitely call or email us. Still no contact or follow-up so we called. We're told there was something wrong with the sku (on both?? Seems suspicious) but she ordered them. She said two weeks max but possibly less because she rushed it. Called back 12 days later just to confirm when we could come to pick it up. This next person we spoke to was rude and acted like we were bothering her. Said she had no way of knowing when things would come in. Called back June 2nd and the guy we talked to seemed completely unaware of the situation. He said... maybe Tuesday? But didn't really know. Awful service with no confidence in my outcome. On July 24th I visited Smyth to have one of my ~ 1ct near perfect diamond earrings set in a bezel style necklace. After receiving no acknowledgement in store, I tracked down Samantha who sat with me to discuss what I wanted done and she mentioned it would be a week or two. There was a job # I received via email but no envelope or process discussed as to how my diamond would be handled/protected through the process. My boyfriend mentioned his lack in confidence in the process when we left so I called two days later to chat with Samantha she didn't instill much confidence. I had to call back a week later for a status update and Samantha said she was authorizing my job. This was the week of Aug 1st. I had to keep calling to basically beg Smyth to take this job. Finally she said around Aug 8th when I called yet again that she received the cost and if I approved it to which I said yes. On the 11th of Aug. she left a voicemail that she had been trying to reach me (no missed calls) and that my necklace would be done Monday but she'd be on PTO. Tuesday I called Smyth Annapolis after NO call yet again and they inform me the person who was working on my necklace received a call and ran out of the jeweler while working on my necklace and it was missed. Samantha did not authorize the job until the 11th when she called me. I think she absolutely FORGOT to push my job through but the lack of communication is absolutely insane and unprofessional. While a bezel set is a low cost job, the diamond is incredibly valuable. I have no idea if the stone was protected through this debacle or how. I am now only in communication with the store manager but will not take ANY of my follow on business to Smyth. Where Baltimore gets engaged? I wouldn't. read more

I purchased my wedding band here, and could not have been happier with the entire experience. The staff was friendly and definitely from the "no pressure" school of sales. Having visited what feels like every jewelry store between D.C. and Baltimore looking for wedding jewelry, this is definitely the place where I felt most comfortable shopping. Sure, you're still paying full retail for jewelry, but at least you don't feel like the the salespeople are out to get you. Had I not already purchased my wife's engagement ring and wedding band before being told about Smyth by a friend, this would have definitely been the first place we looked. I'll certainly be returning for Christmas and anniversary gifts. Aside from their retail business, Smyth also does jewelry repairs. My wife had a pair of earrings and a ring repaired by them, and we were very happy with the result. The repair prices were very reasonable and the workmanship was top quality. This location -- Smyth's second -- is in the Annapolis Town Centre at Parole, and there is plenty of other great shopping there, so it's worth a quick stop into Smyth to check it out. Just because this location is in a mall, don't lump Smyth in with your typical mall jewelry store; Smyth's quality and selection blows those other guys out the water. read more

Legitimately just walked out of this store about five minutes ago after standing around for 30 minutes without being helped. When my fiancée and I walked in there was a gentleman that told us someone would be right with us. However, after about 25 more minutes we still had not been helped or even spoken to. There were a total of 6 people (3 couples) being attended to and one of the couples actually walked in after us. In hindsight, maybe should have spoken with a manager before we left but I was more shocked than angry. I have purchased a few pieces of jewelry from the Annapolis location and I love the family atmosphere! They have a good selection of jewelry, some very nice pieces, but their prices are pretty steep. But that's not why I only gave them 2 stars. No...that would be for their lack of service. I had picked up a certificate for a free "freshwater pearl bracelet" at Wine in the Woods, and since I'd never been to this store before, I thought I'd check it out. Now, I know that a lot of people would just go in for the free bracelet and leave, but I genuinely was interested in perhaps adding to my jewelry collection and was prepared to make a purchase in addition to my freebie. However, once I gave my certificate to the salesperson, she gave me a look as if I had leprosy, then came back with 5 bracelets in a rainbow of colors, all of which looked like they had been made as a kindergarten art project. Yeah, I know....it was free, what did I expect? But once I made my selection (which I'll probably end up giving to my 11 yr old niece), she disappeared, never to be seen again, leaving me to browse the cases on my own. There were several other salespeople in the store, and NO other customers, yet not one of them offered to come over and assist me. When I approached the watch case, the two guys working there actually turned their backs to me and pretended I wasn't there. Why would you offer a free item to lure people into your store only to ignore them once they show up? Sorry, but I can get jewelry that's just as nice (if not nicer) for a better price across the street, and get treated MUCH better. read more

It's been many years since I've been to Smyth's, got my wedding rings there many years ago. Now that they are conveniently located in Annapolis I thought it would be a great place to purchase jewelry for a retirement gift, needed 2 pieces. I was quickly approached by a very nice young lady eager to assist, I explained I was just looking but would let her know. When I decided what I wanted I approached her as she was talking to a gentleman from the store, I assume a manger. She quickly pawned me off to another sales person who had just entered the store. We were both taken aback as she said...you can help her! At which point the other salesperson quickly jumped in & tried to help. After all of the confusion I elected to stop at the one piece and be fine with it as I was a bit put out with the experience. I have been to Smythe twice in the last few months and the service has been awful. The time frame and the communication were awful. I have had to call to check on my items because I never got a phone call. I dropped a watch off on January 18, 2017 to get a simple pin repaved, was promised it back on February 1, 2017. It has just gotten back today and I have not gotten 1 phone call to update me on the status. I have had to call them. I had used them several times in the past and didn't have a problem. Moving to their new location seems to have changed things. Plus, what jewelry store has sports on the TV?? I would expect something more classy. Just my opinion on that. So going to get my watch and will be on the lookout for a new jeweler. Having purchased several item from Smyth and worked with Chris, he went out of his way to make sure I understood the quality of the jewelery I was buying and having to send it as a gift,and that it would arrive on time, and also was beautifully gift wrapped. Smyths is a 5 and dime jewelry operation dressed up to look fantastic. They have managed to go from high marks the last two times we went there to the bottom of the barrel. I expect a straight forward honest experience, something these bait and switch jerks don't know. We had remarried, had an earring and a wedding band just laying around and thought we would see what we could get by going back to the place the ear ring was bought and what the white and yellow gold band would yield in anticipation of 'trading in' for a ring that I noticed for around $1000 sold at Sams. Well, I don't know about you all but when you pay $3500 for an ear ring last October and these crooks 'valued' it at $400 and the price of gold not being that far off I knew these people were shysters. Actually, you think Smyths is great and wonderful at Annapolis Town Centre but one or two customers in a vast corner area I have noticed over the years really opened my eyes. I was given a quote, and to come back today (7/29/13) after they got hold of the vendors for pricing of the ring we wanted. So after a 60 mile commute and a hellacious day at work I did just that. Well, the salesclerk was the same person we had Saturday. kept hemhawing around, calling 'Julie' to have her check the order request. So from 3pm to 4pm I spent an hour sitting there while we waited for the call. Oh, but in the meantime, he showed me the picture of the ring we had been talking about. I thought this was pretty redundant since I had given a them a copy of what I was looking for. Oh, and this is the fun part. Let me preface this part by saying I was an Air Force Brat and when my DAD retired he was a top dollar car salesman and owner. He did what was right for the customer, he had repeat business. So while we are waiting for the quote, this salesclerk gets up, goes over to "The Gold Book" and opens this page up to show the ring we are waiting on. So he launches into you will get full value of your diamond ring if you get a larger carat ring. Well, then the manager comes by and I am studying the ring and thinking, this is not the ring picture I brought into the store. The salesclerk called for a price on that ring, to Julie, who naturally had the information readily available because of course, this ring is set 180 degrees from what I wanted. Now, I am not a real jewelry wearer but since age 62 was looming this Sept my wife wanted to get me something. What started as a joke ended up with that ear ring. (when I turned 40 and divorced the second time I thought I would see what the experience was like. However, I am not one to try to look or be younger and felt awkward, since that is why I wanted to exchange. Working with my hands either on a PC programming or tracing circuits in the frame, I didn't nor was I interested in carat size. So to please the love of my life is why I even went for this experience. As far as customer service, I have been involved with that since age 16. I asked the salesclerk for some water and he said you can get it yourself. i find this company the most disgusting jewelry store I have gone to, and that has ranged from cookie cutter jewelry like Zales or Kays Jewelers to Burton's on Connecticut. I guess the premise is that I don't need a song and dance from these people. We went there because of the good experience, but these people...... The finale, of course, that after he got off the phone with "Julie" then the ring (180 degrees from what I had a picture of) would be brought to the store in about two weeks, then he introduced his cost, [if I got the bigger carat the bigger the discount]. but I would have to put 20% down before it would come to the store. That is when I decided that if I want the freaking ring I will go to Sams, where the original was. Bait and switch. Not in this day and age. You say you can bring what I wanted into the store and then I am paying a 'handling fee' which of course will count towards purchase. This store can take a hike. I hope other people are wise to their game. Maybe Kays, Zales, or Mr Burton's jewelry store aren't for the elite of Annapolis, but at least you get what you picked out, they told you the date and time you could pick up.
