I have been to several Rowan locations and always have a great experience. The Lincoln Park location is no exception! I wanted to get some new jewelry for my piercing and everyone was so helpful in helping me find the perfect piece. They were even kind enough to pull out different pieces and hold them up against my ear so I could make sure I loved them before committing. Once I picked my jewelry, the change process was quick, clean, and easy. Everyone here was so nice and the place was spotless. I walked in without an appointment last week because I wanted flat back earrings for my lobe piercing. I'm legally blind and found it impossible to do on my own. I also wanted to get my second lobe pierced, but I was hesitant because I forget if piercings hurt and while I deal with chronic pain I am a TOTAL BABY about regular people pain. I chose Rowan because they only hire registered nurses to do piercings which made me feel comfortable because the last time I got my ears pierced, it was at Claire's by some 18-year-old manager-in-training wielding a piercing gun and rolling her eyes. They also have solid gold or titanium flat back earrings which I knew I could leave in without needing to change, a bonus for this blind girl! The guy at the counter (I think his name was Pete?) could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I was super impressed. (But wait! It gets better!) Enter Caroline, piercer extraordinaire. She asks which jewelry I want and I tell her. She says with my low vision, she'd recommend another style. I appreciated her honesty and went with her selection. She inserts the jewelry with no issues or discomfort. She's warm and friendly and just a whole vibe. I feel like we've been friends for longer than five whole minutes. I feel brave and ask if she can do my second lobe piercing. She says she has time -- let's do it! She changes her gloves again "I'm all about cleanliness!" and meticulously marks my ears, tries to show me (I can't see it, but I trust her!) and asks if I want to know what she's going to do before she does it. I pause and say "just do it." She sensed my hesitation and said she was going to walk me through it. (Spoiler alert: It didn't hurt at all!) Afterwards, I got detailed aftercare instructions verbally which I appreciate because the sheet they handed me is for my sighted partner. The place takes walk ins but making an appointment is recommended so you can avoid any wait time. I recommend Kristine! Process 1) Make an appointment and sign waiver online *a reminder email and text is sent to you prior to and on the day of the appointment 2) Go to the store a little prior to your appointment time to select an earring (the options are also listed online). 3) The staff will show you the approximate cost which you'll pay for after the piercing. -- 4) The staff will mark the ear with the location of the piercing and ensure you are comfortable with it before piercing. 5) Take pictures 6) Instructions on how to care for the pierced spot is provided 7) Pay & you are all set! I got my little one's ear pierced here and Kristine did a great job. She was patient & good with our little one. I appreciated that she took her time to ensure the piercing would be in the perfect spot on the ear and ensured our little one was calm & not moving when she pierced her ears. My anxiety-prone 9 YO daughter decided she was ready to get her ears-pierced, and I knew I'd need to find a place that could help her feel at ease, do a really good job with the piercing, and have a high level of hygiene. After some internet research, I chose Rowan because it is woman-owned and utilizes RN's to do the piercings. We went this morning, and the entire visit was a success! Kristine was warm and reassuring, listening to all my daughters questions and concerns, explaining everything as she went, and generally making us all feel comfortable and at-ease. My daughter was worried about the pain, but Kristine told us, "everyone walks out of here smiling!" And sure enough, my daughter left grinning from ear to ear and extremely proud of herself -- and I was proud of her too! The shop has a fun, cheerful vibe, and parking was easy to find. It is definitely a lot more expensive than a place like Claire's (where I got my own ears pierced a very very long time ago...), but I decided that for my daughter, the professional care, high standards, and quality product were worth it. One very small thing: I think the after-care solution might have stained (or bleached?) an article of my daughter's clothing -- I would have liked a heads-up about that so we could have been extra careful not to get the solution on her dress. But overall a very minor details, and I'm grateful that Kristine and Rowan made today a really, really good day for my kid (which makes it a good day for me too!). read more

They really don't care about anything except making money. Had a second piercing for one ear in January. I ultimately didn't like the placement. I let it heal and went in to have it redone. I brought the stud I purchased. Took them a minute to understand the situation. "Well, since it'd been a hot minute since you were here..." I guess they couldn't figure out how to find me in their system. Then they pointed to the case and said, "please select an earring." I replied, "I brought mine from the first time." "Oh, we can't use that. They are pre-loaded." "Ok. Let's do a needle" "Oh. We can't do that because it's not sanitized." "You can't sanitize it?" With the most insincere smile, "No. we can't do that." You're a nurse! Truly unbelievable. Customer service is not a value here. read more

TL;DR: If you want a piercing - go here I randomly decided to get a piercing and they had available walk in appointment. The employees who helped me gave great advise and really took their time with me to make sure my double piercing was aligned properly. They also gave me a hair tie and clips to help pull back my hair. They truly eased all my worries and were patience with me throughout the whole process. The inside is very bubbly and cute. It was nice being able to see the different jewelry they have from their online shop - so I had a good idea of what I wanted going in! Once I got in, the front desk representative was amazing and so sweet. They checked me in right away and kept me updated on my appointment. While walking around there were a ton of different pieces of jewelry that you can purchase as well. Once I got sat down, my nurse was super sweet and informative of the whole process and was amazing at explaining care as well. Great experience! I went on a Wednesday, so the shop was slow. Kristine was friendly and professional, she knew exactly how to place the piercings and she put me at ease. I had needle piercing - added a second hole on my earlobes. I have scar tissue from a previous piercing that I didn't like (done elsewhere). Scheduling an appointment was very easy online. Paid parking right out front. Ami was nice, professional, and took her time making sure the mark for the piercing was exactly where we wanted it. She was very good at trying to follow the natural curvature of the ear to place the location of the earring (something I had never thought of) and made sure the piercings were level with one another. She thoroughly explained post op care and answered all of our questions knowledgeably. Cannot say enough good things about Caroline! Our 8rd old was finally ready to get her ears pierced for her birthday after contemplating it for a few years now. We gave her the option of whenever she was ready and she decided this was the year. Caroline was patient and explained every thing as it happened. She was kind and a perfectionist with placement (which I appreciate as a I was part of the mid-mall kiosk piercing history and forever have crooked piercings). It was quick, incredibly precise and my daughter was shocked at how little it hurt. Ourselves and Caroline helped prep her with after feelings like warm ears from the piercing so she was not surprised by any of the reactions ears naturally have right after being pierced. She left with a triumphant smile! We are three days post-piercing and they are healing beautifully (not crust or redness). We did get the after care spray to use twice a day. I will say, it is very pricey, but for permanent holes in her ears, we wouldn't have done it anywhere else! They are perfect! read more

Went here a few months ago. waited 50 minutes. Out front staff were friendly and helpful. The actual piecer seemed annoyed to be doing it at all. Now looking at my earrings, my left side is so significantly close to the edge of my ear that I have to let it close. My earrings feel as if they are going to fall out/be ripped open any time. It's extremely uncomfortable and hard to put new earrings in without feeling like i'm going to rip my ear. The other one is fine and great, I think the piecer didn't take her time looking at my ears before doing it. For the cost it doesn't match up to it. read more

We scheduled 11am appointments in advance and received communications where we were advised to arrive 10 minutes early. We arrived early, as requested, on a rainy, cold morning. Note that this Rowan store front does not have an overhang or awning out front. As we scurried through the open door inside, we were rudely told to leave until they were ready for us and the door was locked behind us. We had to scurry across the street for cover. Really?! A very off putting start. The door was opened about fifteen minutes later. Unbelievably, no one walked out to wave us in even though we were visibly waiting directly across the street under an overhang . The vibe inside was still "cool" when we walked inside a second time. The manager? was snarky when we checked in. Very unprofessional. Obviously, not a happy camper. A good manager, even if s/he is having a bad day, should portray graciousness and put out a welcome mat for guests. Thankfully, the nurse assigned to us, was very professional and empathetic. As a FTM, I was torn on getting my little one's (4 MO) ears pierced. I wanted to, but was scared and unsure if I could handle watching her get poked. Alma & Ami were amazing. Alma provided a consultation and answered all of my questions, addressed my concerns, and was so reassuring. Ami did the actual piercing and was so patient with me and my LO. She was absolutely great in walking my husband and I through the process before anything happened, making sure any remaining questions were answered before we left, and offered advice when necessary. The piercings came out great, my LO cried when the piercing occurred but was calm again before we even left the store-- just like Alma & Ami said she would be. If you plan to get your ears pierced please go to a doctor's office January of this year a friend of my daughters took her to Rowan in Lincoln Park to get her ears pierced . Today is July 10th and her ears have been displaying signs of infection signs of infection, such as severe redness, swelling, pain, or discharge, seek advice from a healthcare professional or your piercer. Rowan states that it Prides itself on having nurses do the piercing so the client can be easily walked through the process and guided through the process over time . None of that did we experience today . As a matter of fact the nurse on duty was up to , unhelpful and refuse to admit that my daughter was experiencing an infection even though over the last several months she's had to spray antiseptic on her ears every two days so it's not to experience severe pain . Luckily we have insurance so we'll be going to the doctor next week but what about other kids on the University campus that don't have insurance they don't have their parents to follow up and notice that something is wrong . Was really disappointed with my experience here. Would not recommend piercing cartilage with anything other than a needle. The "hand pressurized device" is basically a piercing gun - not very hygienic and very harsh on the ear tissue. I wish I went with my gut to go elsewhere but decided to give it a chance. My ear ended up swelling A LOT and I nearly had the earring stuck in my ear. The jewelry was obviously very cheaply made and the back length wasn't the right size for a cartilage piercing. Don't make the mistake I did and please go to professional piercers at a tattoo/piercing shop. Give 1 star for the employees as they were very pleasant read more

For parents looking for a spot to get their kid's ears pierced, I highly recommend this place. The selection is small but definitely hits all of the major colors and shapes a young kid would be into. My 6 year old chose pink butterfly earrings and the nurse working with us was very good at talking her through the process. The shop is also very cute and I want to go back and look at the other earrings for myself! I got a second piercing with my daughter and also really appreciated the level of service they provided. We didn't schedule in advance and booked after entering the shop. There was no other appointment at that time so we were seen right away and out with both of us pierced (and a friend too!) in 30 minutes. I had a question about some discomfort I was having a few weeks down afterwards and I was able to call, talk to a nurse immediately who gave me good advice.
