Before I get into the nitty details, I want to make it known that the only decent factor involving this establishment is the outside environment aura because of the beach and our waitress Nikki -- she was a fabulous waitress, changed her gloves multiple times when touching other tables and she was accommodating and compassionate. Where should I start? Maybe with what bothered me the most. As the big foodie that I am, I've been writing several reviews and going to various places eating fabulous food and this restaurant failed to suit my expectations. Again, not trying to rub you off the wrong way because I know I'm not Kim Kardashian and deserving of top notch service and high class food, but the portions were as small as a microorganism and keep in mind that microorganisms are extremely tiny. Usually when you go out to eat you're obviously hungry and studies show that many customers mainly eat with their eyes. I couldn't eat with my eyes because I could barely see the plate considering how small it was. The food was subpar and wasn't anything to die for. This isn't a restaurant that I would visit multiple times because I loved it so much because in reality I didn't. Rowe Bar is A-OK. It's located inside The Don CeSar and is where the majority of the pool and beach side service food comes from. We dined at Rowe Bar on our first night at the hotel. They seemed to be overwhelmed and understaffed that evening. There was group standing outside waiting to be seated when we arrived. Guests are encouraged to wait outside until a staff member can assist them. After waiting a couple of minutes, my husband asked the other group if they've been assisted. When they said no, my husband decided to go inside the restaurant to get a staff member's attention. Both of our groups were seated shortly after. We ordered the following: Spicy margarita Paper plane to paradise $14 Corn meal crusted calamari $14 Don CeSar salad $14 Seared gulf snapper $33 Half dozen wings (bbq) $16 The drinks were excellent. Loved them both. The food was good and seasoned well. However, they were definitely pricey. Portions were decent, but not enough to warrant the high prices. The menu was very similar for the pool and beach side service, minus a few items. While at the beach, we ordered a handful of times: fruit, salads and sandwiches. We dined here Superbowl Sunday and again for breakfast during a recent stay at the Don Cesar (see my detailed review on the Don). Kylin, our server, was lovely and so attentive. Our water glasses were never empty and she kept our wine glasses filled too. She also made the perfect recommendations for shareable plates for our table. The D'Orsay Rose' was refreshing and light and went well with the crabcake sandwich I had. Large and tasty wings too. The crabcake sandwich was so good I had it twice in three days! The "build-your-own-omelet" was a treat for a breakfast just the way you want it. Pricey, we paid over $46 for breakfast for three people. But I would surely return on a future visit because the food, service and views are outstanding. read more

Grabbed lunch here with a friend and her mom a few days ago. We sat on the porch, enjoying the sun and a light breeze. We all remarked how private the space felt. Our food was good but nothing outstanding or particularly memorable. I enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich, which was a fair portion, and a side salad that had a nice and zesty dressing. One member of our party got the salad, which appeared to be full leaves of romaine, shredded egg, and dressing. The other member got a Rueben sandwich and side of fruit. The fruit looked gorgeous. I'm not sure I'll be back for lunch on my next visit to the area, but I could see myself enjoying a cocktail on the patio in the future. read more

Rowe Bar did the job with respect to enjoying a couple of drinks on the beachfront property at the Don Cesar Hotel. Like most hotel bars, the drinks are priced more and the selection of liquor at your disposal will probably be not that extensive. However, the service was solid and the drinks did the job for what we needed. Of course, being that the bar is located by the pool and beachfront of the Don Cesar, you're really grabbing a drink so you have one, with the focus really on the surroundings. While social distancing was being practiced, where you could only order drinks at the bar and take them outside, the bartender was friendly and made the drinks quickly that I needed -- the old fashioned and the gin gimlet respectively for myself and fiance. For a hotel bar, the liquor selection, specifically the whiskey was decent. I was thinking about having the bartender make the old fashioned with Maker's 46, but when I saw he was pouring Four Roses Small Batch, I decided against it. The social-distanced line wasn't too bad of a wait before I could place my orders. Both the old fashioned and the gin gimlet were solid. They worked for what we needed as we chilled on our beach chairs and watched the shoreline with a setting sun. read more

3 Stars for one of the restaurants at the Don Cesar that's by the pool, has great service, outside seating that includes a section with firepits (first come, first sat), and stiff drinks. This location is pretty fabulous. Let's get that out of the way. The restaurant is decorated in a coastal chic style featuring light wood floors and tables, with grey walls. It's at The Don Cesar, so you expect it to look nice, and it does. We chose to sit outside when we grabbed a bite while on a break from the pool. Later we went back and sat by the fire pits (closer to the sand) and ordered our drinks. For our snack we ordered the Goat Cheese Fritters with a poached pear & pecan salsa and Wildflower honey. I'd give this dish a solid 4 stars. Yes, fried cheese tends to taste amazing, but it was the salsa and honey that perfectly cut the richness of the cheese with a sweet acidity that had us making sure to soak each bite. With that being said, $13 for 3 small fried balls (see my pic) is quiiiiite steep. The other dish we had was the Tres Leches. This sweet and moist Latin American dessert is my favorite treat, so whenever I see it on a menu, I get it. It looked a bit out of place on this menu, but I asked the server and she assured me it was really good. Sigh... It was a tasty dessert, but definitely not a tres leches. It was more of a somewhat-moist poundcake, and there's a big difference between that and the sopping wet tres leches I've grown up eating (and making). This is one of those cases of a dish being good on its own, but the name of the dish leaving me really disappointed. It had some fresh berried on top, so that was a plus, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for the real deal. The drinks that evening by the fire pit were a pleasure, though. I got the Blackberry Smash- Hendrick's Gin with muddled blackberries, house-made simple syrup, lemon, and lime. It was slightly sweeter than I like, but I knew that it would be from the description, and I ordered a second, so I'm not complaining! The ambiance was the real winner though. You could hear the ocean, just beyond the dunes, and the couches by the fire pit were big and comfortable. I could have spent hours there. And I did. read more

An easy way to monopolize the hungry customers at The Don Cesar, as The Rowe Bar is basically the only place to eat food at the illustrious pink hotel. It was a bit hard to find at first, but once we started walking around outside to scope the pools, we found it! When we came here for breakfast, it was a Saturday morning around 9:20AM. There were only about 3 parties of people eating outside, so it didn't seem too busy here. We got our outdoor seats immediately, but it took a little longer for the server to come to us. It looked like there were only 2 servers for everyone sitting outside. Not a problem until about 20 minutes later when the brunch rush stampede came through. We ordered the French toast as well as a bagel with salmon and cream cheese. My French toast was mostly good! I was highly impressed with the butter shaped like flowers and beautifully plated on a small dish that looked like it was only meant to hold butter. The syrup also tasted like regular maple syrup - just my type. The french toast looked like eggy sourdough bread. Initially, it tasted good, but it had a strange eggy aftertaste. I had to use more butter and syrup than necessary to try to cover up this aftertaste. I was pleased that the French toast was huge though, so based off size alone, $14 looked like a fair price for French toast from a 4-star hotel. The salmon and bagel were shockingly small! The salmon was placed on a mini bagel, so there was only so much salmon and cream cheese that a person could receive. Although the salmon and cream cheese bagel tasted wonderful, there wasn't anything about it that stood out from other tasty salmon and bagel combinations. When we tried to eat here at 2:30PM, we were also told that it would be a 15-20 minute wait and they would call us back when they were ready for us. We came back around 3PM but a woman who looked like the manager curtly stated "We'll call you when we're ready!" She seemed highly stressed like the lunch rush extended 2 hours past its normal hours. Perhaps the Rowe Bar is understaffed? Well we ended up going inside Uncle Andy's for the Rowe Bar to-go food instead because she never gave us a call back in the end! All in all, I would suggest coming here early for breakfast, if you want breakfast here. However, if you have a car and/or can eat at other places, then just go out of Don Cesar to get a much nicer meal for a cheaper price. If the Rowe Bar is your only choice, check out the Uncle Andy's for the Rowe Bar to-go food service. The to-go food service already includes a 15% service charge, so you don't have to worry about tip! Furthermore, it's much quicker and you can eat somewhere else, where you don't have to worry so much about indoor dining/slow service/COVID-19. read more

We're staying on property; so I'm not sure about parking details. I think I saw a sign for guests cost $27 + tax (so maybe just Uber here). The Rowe bar is outside next to the pool deck and overlooks the beach. There's indoor and outdoor seating. There's nice outdoor furniture around fire pits as well. You can catch a beautiful St. Pete sunset here, like we did. There's also TVs for catching a sports game at the bar. This is a little classier of a place just because it's located inside the Don Cesar's resort, so I would at least wear a sundress for the ladies, and men in polo shirts. We started with the nacho appetizer, which was loaded with cheese and jalapeños. I had the lobster roll and Brian got the cheeseburger. He had two sides of fries because I was stuffed! Food was good, service was even better - our waitress refilled our waters after almost every sip (lol). Our food came out fast. Prices aren't bad! My husband and I stayed at the hotel (Don Cesar) for a couple of nights and for one of our evenings we decided to give this place a shot. I have to say although the choices we requested were good, we were a little disappointed with the menu. There weren't a lot of choices considering this seats in a 5 star hotel. We waited a while for the dinner, but the server did check on us often. They also have good beer on tap for those who love craft beer, and lots of TVs for sports loves. It's a very casual atmosphere! If I can recommend anything on the menu go with the Mahi and Max&cheese. The tater tots with queso and bacon were also pretty delish. read more

Rowe bar was frankly as much of a disappointment to me as the entire Loews property. So, to get this out of the way, you probably know that eating a meal at a five star hotel is going to run you a lot, a lot of money. I am talking about $15 for a couple spoons of ceviche expensive and most of the other bite size dishes are $20 and up. So raking up $100 per person before drinks is easy here to get yourself filled up with a decent meal. Here is the thing, I don't mind paying the money when I am getting something exceptional. I really do expect something exceptional for this kind of money and I didn't get it. The ceviche, despite it's gorgeous glass jar, stones and smoke presentation, was probably one of the worst I've ever tasted. It was overloaded with the sweetness of mango, very sticky and the combination of ingredients was just not tasty. They tried to do something unique, but didn't have the talent to execute it. It tasted like mango purée blended with a chunk of Mahi and thrown into a pretty bowl. So, food aside, let's talk about the design. The bar essentially has three parts to it, the inside, the patio with chairs facing the interior and a few sofas overlooking the ocean (and sunset.) Although they clearly invested the money, the design was very poorly thought through. The patio next to the restaurant is a very awkward, open space and it seems like you are sitting in the center of a large, open space. Thus, the cozy touches they attempted to add to it though fire pits and such don't compensate enough. The furniture is mixed, some of it needs a major design overhaul. Looks dated and poorly selected. Blue white color scheme does not fit well into the hotel building either. It seems lost between the modernity of most Loews city properties and the classical design of the building. One of the worst designed 5 star resorts I've seen. read more

I dined here with a girlfriend during a recent stay. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated, as nobody was at the host desk when we arrived. Once seated, we noticed that slowness was a bit of a trend. Service was oddly slow... as it took another 15 minutes for us to be greeted by a server. Luckily, my friend and I had time to kill on an extremely dreary day (our beach plans had gotten nixed due to weather). If the weather was nicer, I'd be much more frustrated by the slowness, as that definitely takes away from pool time and beach time. While the service was slow, the food was quite good. We ordered oysters to share, and I ordered the salmon BLT as my main. Both options were very fresh and tasty. The prices are a tad high, but it's a nice resort, so higher prices are to be expected. And I'd prefer to spend a little more money if it means extremely fresh ingredients. If it weren't for the incredibly slow experience (host stand, food service and waiting for our bill), this would be a solid 4-star experience. I was very disappointed in my experience at Rowe Bar- the food was terrible and the service was unfriendly. My pregnant wife and I were seated at the bar despite there being several tables unused (in fact only one table was in use when we arrived and by the time we left only two tables had been used). Once we got to the bar the bartender was not friendly or helpful. I had two cocktails and they were really bad- "syrupy" sweet and unbalanced- not at all what I would expect from 14$ drinks. The food was by far the worst food I've had at a restaurant in ages. I got the cheeseburger- the beef patties were those premade frozen hamburger patties you can buy at the grocery store! Gross. Furthermore the burger was topped with one sad piece of lettuce, two old pickles, and an "onion bourbon pimento cheese jam" that tasted like someone mixed it together 7 months ago and it's been sitting in the same bin covered in Saran Wrap in the refrigerator since then. There was no seasoning or flavor or sauce to redeem the sad burger. The fries were also premade and well below average. Not at all what I would expect from such an upscale establishment. I am very sad to leave this review. My wife and I got married at the Don Cesar 4 years ago and returned this week for our anniversary. Best hamburger I've ever had. It was a mix of brisket, short ribs and steak burger. Delicious. Should be for $16. As a guest of the hotel this is a good place to grab lunch or dinner but it is overpriced. Guess you are paying for the view and convenience. Even though the place was only 60% full we had to wait 15 min. We asked for outside and waited longer for it. We were seated inside because outside would be another 15-20 min wait when I see tables open outside. So weird. We asked to be moved outside as the indoor bar was super loud. They were nice to let us move as we had already placed our order. But then the hostess said your food may be delayed as I don't know if they can find you. That was strange as it would be easy.....we were seated outside. i do think they are short staffed as tables weren't being cleaned. We did get our food out quickly however. House salad with goat cheese was yummy and their ranch was decent. The flatbread was recommended since it is made with homemade dough. I thought the entire dish was lacking flavor. The staff was very accommodating as my we moved from the inside to the outside back to the inside at least 4 times (Florida's cool winter nights). I love the atmosphere of Rowe Bar. I felt like I was at a friend's home. There is the main bar, tables and comfy couches all which you can be served at. They had t.v.s on playing the hottest NFL games to watch but it wasn't overly loud. As a Penn State Fan I was happy to see they had a book on Joe Paterno (even if it was just for decoration). The Rowe Bar offers a quality drink list with local beers to boot! I ordered the Blackberry Smash (Hendrick's Gin, Blackberries, House Made Syrup, Lemon and Lime). It is so refreshing (to taste) and to have a quality made drink instead of a young girl in a revealing top tell you they know what they are doing as they botch up your drink. if I could give zero stars I would. I came here on a very busy Saturday with a female friend. We sat at the bar to order a drink and not one bartender would acknowledge our presence for 45 minutes. The woman sitting next to me said that the same thing happened to her, and she waited for an hour to order a drink while men were waited on left and right. After waiting about 20 minutes, and watching at least 3 men who arrived after me being waited on, I finally got one bartender's attention, and he told me that there were several people ahead of me waiting to order. My friend was finally able to order a drink, only because the gentleman who was being waited on next to her pointed out that she was there before him to the bartender. I was a second away from giving my credit card to any random man and asking him to order for me because clearly I was invisible. It is true insanity that this could happen in this day and age. On principle alone, I highly recommend you stay away from this place until they figure out what century we are in and respect all people regardless of gender. Note to the Rowe Bar management: 1) You are really turning off your female customers (if you even have any, because you won't actually wait on them) 2) even when the bar is crazy busy, it is customer service 101 to acknowledge a customer's presence, and say you will be right with them, as opposed to pretending they are not there. read more

Usually at a bar, the bartenders have a system. I stood for over an hour waiting for a drink, while the bartenders served every male who walked up. The male bartenders never once acknowledged me as I stood there. It took a male customer to get their attention for me before they would serve me. I cannot believe we are in 2021 and this is allowed to happen. Ladies, take your money elsewhere. Tampa Bay Restaurant Week! WUT WUT WUT. A bunch of really good food, amazing restaurants, and cheap prices all week long. After the difficult decision of find a place to go, my friends and I picked Rowe Bar because it's located inside the Don Cesar. The actual location of the Rowe Bar is out of the way. You have to walk through the hotel and pass through several hallways to find the Bar. I would just say walk straight up from the beach, which would be much easier to find. Let's dive into the fooooood. Being a place with $$$$, which I RARELY eat at, let's see how they did. Appetizer: Tomato Bisque 4.5/5 - Pretty darn close to perfect, but was slightly too salty. Very creamy and the toasted bread added a nice texture crunch. Dark Green BLT Salad 4.5/5 - The salad itself was delicious, but the vegetables were disproportionate in size. There were large pieces of cucumbers and peppers that made the salad a bit difficult to eat. The dressing was SOO SOO GOOD. Seriously made the salad. Entree: Pan Roasted Salmon 4/5 - The salmon itself was cooked perfectly and had nice seasoning to it. The only problem was the farro and cheery salad on the bottom. It was a bit hard to chew and added little flavor to the overall dish. Braised Short Ribs 4/5 - Overall really good. Also, probably the best bang for your buck. The portion size was pretty hefty. There were a few fatty parts though, which made it difficult to eat at times Dessert: Carmel Pudding 5/5...wait let's do 5.5/5 - SO DARN GOOD. This is seriously the best dessert I've had in my 22 years on this planet. I don't even know what it is about it, but they did good with this one. PS. I'm also not a dessert kind of guy, so this means a lot for me to love it this much. This would have been a five-star experience easily, but the service was glacial. And when I say glacial, I mean the servers literally had the beach vibe going on, as in they stood around and did nothing for half the time. Don't even bother with trying to finish this dinner in an hour because it'll take at least two even though you're the only ones there. On the bright side, it's right next to the beach so you get a really good view of the sunset if you time it right. Parking is free for an hour with validation and $10 for three hours if you go over the first hour. tl;dr - Really did enjoy my first four $ dinner so better hurry up for TBRW if you haven't yet! read more

... ohhhh Rowe Bar and the Don CeSar in general... multiple visits over multiple years and I still can't say their food has ever impressed me. From still frozen hot wings, soggy fries, sandy/shell filled oysters, and flavorless dishes, I hate to say it but I fee I have never had a good meal at Rowe Bar (or anywhere on the hotel's property). Meals have been ok - just ok... atmosphere is LOVELY (which is the only reason I keep returning with hopes this time things have changed... but unfortunately not). Cocktails tend to be good at least to enjoy outdoors on the deck or near the fire pits. Another issue is in general the service and hospitality management of the hotel. While I hesitate to blame individual employees, I see the problem stemming from the top and their training program that keeps the hotel from getting to the next level. IE: Closing down multiple spaces in multiple restaurants for a photo shoot during the busy season when the hotel is full and telling guests they have no place to eat on sight until hours later - not the fault of the poor host - but guest's frustration is understandable. It's glitches like this that I feel keep this historical pink palace unable to obtain five stars. This restaurant and hotel is all about the location and atmosphere; but the food and service really lacks. read more

If you are tired of fried food and silly sounding drinks and long for some civility, this is the spot for you. We tried a couple of drinks - the gin julep was outstanding - Hendricks, arugula, St. Germains and grapefruit. Refreshing, balanced and not sweet. Was perfect. Wagyu burger was amazing as was blue cheese fries. There is a kids buffet if you have starving small ones with you - chicken tenders, mac and cheese and rice krispy treats the night we were there. We tried the cheese and meat plate. A little skimpy for the price, but was high-quality. Ceasar salad was so-so, but the oysters hit the spot. This is an upscale experience in a casual outdoor setting. Be warned: all checks come with an 18% gratuity already on it. Cool fireplace that changes color and string of lights overhead. No view of beach (it's a bit down behind dunes) but we loved seeing the sky change colors. read more

Came here off of a recommendation from friends for breakfast. Unfortunately when we got here apparently it was buffet only, which would be fine but the buffet had been previously ravaged with nearly nothing left to eat, merely scraps thrown about here and there. No bagels, minimal potatoes etc etc etc - not to mention my wife is vegan so a 26 dollar buffet for three pieces of left over fruit. Disappointing for sure. read more

Bad service and terrible food. Had reservations for outdoor dining. They tried to seat us at 5:30 in the sun! When we asked for a change to a free spot in the shade, it took 30 minutes to reset the table. Waiter was confused, slow, made numerous mistakes. Kitchen couldn't get the orders right. Burgers were hockey pucks. Sauce on flat bread tasted like Ragu. Don't bother going for the food. read more

I thought it would be nice to take my 92 year old parents for a drink and appetizers at sunset to the Rowe Bar at Don Cesar. My mistake. We ordered drinks and some appetizers. Drinks took forever and the appetizers were a distant memory. Something was off between the wait staff and the lkitchen. After almost 2 hours, we had enough and got up to leave without getting our appetizers. Of course they came out as we were walking out. We ate them quickly and left. We went to another restaurant to eat dinner where we were served immediately and at reasonable prices. Complete disappointment. read more
