A great place to hike or bike and escape the busy town for a bit. The trails make you feel like you are in the woods. The trails are well maintained and mostly shaded since you are under the canopy of all the trees. I have seen grass snakes and once a bobcat in the lesser trafficked areas. However they seem to want to avoid you as much as you do them. Lots of mountain bikers come out here so if you are hiking, be aware of the bikes that will come zooming towards you. Bikes travel the paths clockwise and hikers travel counter clockwise. All different skill level of bikers welcomed. Great place and the people are always respectful from what I hav

    Lovely trail miles this a.m.!!

Are you ready to escape and somewhat feel like you are not quite in DFW anymore? This is a great trail to do some training if you are an avid biker or want to experience trail running! There's plenty of parking and even a pavilion if you want to do a picnic or small gathering setup. A bunch of my trail buds come here do get some miles in on the weekends! I could see how it would be a great family hike too. The trail itself is extensive and you can go for miles and miles!! There's easier and also more technical sections if you like a challenge. It is lush, green and beautiful out there. If you go out there to run on weekends it does get fairly busy so be on the lookout for the bikers who for the most part are very nice, courteous and will tell you they are coming up behind you! So keep an earbud open if you have music so you are safe and you know what's going on around you. Awareness is important, friends! Hope to you see you out on the trails!!

The fishing is decent sometimes, and then there are the other times when there is nothing biting besides snakes, turtles, and gar..... I've had my share of luck here but the hassle of getting to the good spot can be too dangerous at times. If the fish are in spawning season I would highly recommend going, but any other time don't set foot here. There is a bike trail on the other side of the creek but I have no idea where it goes, or where it ends.

Nice trail even though I didn't have a bike. Just walked it and it loops around so you can see if a bike is coming ahead of time. I went midday so not much traffic but I enjoyed the walk. I did loop 1 which says its 1.8 miles but I was able to walk it in about 35 mins which was not bad..

This is a great place for trail runs. I love that the sounds of nature drown out the noise of traffic.

Designed and built by local riders and businesses, the intent is to open up cycling to everyone. That's exactly what has been done. This trail system can be enjoyed by all skill levels. It is essentially split into three sections that can be entered or exited off of a granite loop that can also be iced for a warm up or down loop as well as for runners or walkers or those with children. The trail is constantly being maintained and improved. The one thing I'm not happy with are that some of the trail in the last section is not marked well and you can find yourself riding a few loops over again or even riding the wrong direction! So be careful of this. The system has At least 6 miles of trails, this number may not be accurate anymore with the additions and in fact, my ride today ended up being 7 miles and I know I coulda pulled more out of it. Attached to the park are tennis courts, a splash pad, playground equipment, baseball fields, a small pound that is stocked yearly, and miles of hiking, biking, and jogging trails. Also, you can access the South Tyler trail system from here which is an excellent trail system that will take you all over the southern part of the city. The trail system is growing every day. Also located here is Tyler's newest Police Station so there's no shortage of police presence. I always enjoy coming to this park to run, ride, practice yoga, or just relax.

The Harry Moss Trail is a hike/mountain bike trail maintained by DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle…read moreAssociation) and part of the larger Harry Moss Park. It is located off of Greenville Avenue just north of Walnut Hill. Access is through the parking lot of Buckeye Liquor down a non paved road. Being new to mountain, or since we're in flat country, off road biking I was a little apprehensive about the whole experience. This trail was recommended by several sources as being more newbie friendly. It consists of several connected trails through mostly forested land. The trails are "single track" which means one-way. Bikers travel in a counterclockwise direction, hikers clockwise. It's safer that way. For the less experienced, there are numerous bypasses. More experienced bikers can tackle more technical routes. Each trail is assigned a color and, from what I could tell, the Blue Trail is the beginning. While I have logged many, many miles on my bike cruising around White Rock Lake, I found that this off road gig was ten times more challenging. And, by challenging, I mean by the time I was finished I was whipped. Like most parks of this nature, it is closed after a rain. But the DORBA website is really quick to spread the word. DORBA, a volunteer organization, maintains most if not all such parks. Their workdays are listed on their website and they welcome volunteers. DORBA also hosts numerous clinics and competitions. Unlike some of the pictures listed here, I found the property to be very well maintained. Not a bit of litter did I see. Oh, and by the way, the DWF area is consistently recognized by outside sources as having some of the best off road trails in the country.

The off roading trails have been open for years, but the hiking trails just opened up in March 2018 and I'm kicking myself that we hadn't checked this place out sooner. The park itself is in between Bridgeport and Chico, off of 101, but is closer to Bridgeport. It's set pretty far back off 101, but is clearly marked with signage, and easy to find. The parking lot was clean & large, with port-a-potties, trash can, picnic tables, and a map of the park available. Right off the parking lot was an entrance to the Butterfield Trail, with complimentary walking sticks available to assist you, which I thought was a really lovely, thoughtful touch. Since it was our first time here, though, and we had the kids with us, we tried out the shortest, easiest trail available: the Oil Rig. The pathways were well-marked and easy to follow. The "easy" hike was truly easy, more of a nature walk than a hike. It was perfect for the time of day and the company we had. My daughter called everything "fairy" this or that because between the light and how beautiful the landscape was, it really was magical. All in all, it was a perfect experience and we can't wait to go back and try another trail.
