I haven't been to Roxy Bar for a long time and I was pleasantly surprised with yesterday's experience. Everything we ordered for our table, they were all ranked A+++ Raw bar- Clams were exceptional- probably the most popular at our table. Very fresh and definitely will come back for it. Oysters were really great too- but personally clams killed it yesterday. Then we moved to our entrees- we had Mac & cheese which was VERY delicious but felt a little over priced for just Mac & Cheese. Truffle Crusted Cod- favorite entree- the cod was so good and the purée that came with the cod was the most amazing purée. Really great balance! Burger was the last entree we ordered and it was perfectly cooked as we requested. Delicious burger. The venue was beautiful- and even the live music just added to a great experience. I took one star off because the prices on some items were a lot more than what it was and could be adjusted a bit. read more

Our after dinner group walked into the lounge for an after dinner drink on a Sunday night. We were seated in the lounge and needed merely one additional side chair so we could all sit together. Both our server and the GM Dave curtly and emphatically told us we most definitely could not add a chair because it would block the aisle and our server's access to us, which was completely bogus. Mind you, the lounge was empty, and how many people were they expecting to rush in at 9:30 on a Sunday night down in Tribeca?! While we would never want to create a fire hazard or impede the progress of our amazing server the abrupt rebuff of our simple request was quite disconcerting. I've been here numerous times and usually have a great time. Excellent food, drinks and entertainment. I live around the block and love going to the movie theater and sometimes stop at the bar before or after. But a couple of weeks ago I had a super disappointing experience. I ordered 1 martini after seeing a movie at the Roxy Theater, as I have done many times before, and was charged $80+. When I went to management to dispute the charge they asserted I tipped $60. I did not. They said they would refund me the fraudulent tip 3 weeks ago and I still have not received a refund. I'm honestly offended that they tried to convince me I added a $60 tip instead of investigating the fraudulent charge. If you know anything about NYC nightlife, this happens from time to time. Check your credit card statements after going to this place! Everything else is great though, I've been going to the Roxy for years and hope to return but after this incident it's going to be awhile before I go back. read more

I love hotel bars but this one is missing something. I visited twice during a stay at the Tribeca Grand. On the first night I sat at the bar and had a glass of Pinot Noir. The vibe of the space was so lame I considered on several occasions whether to simply settle up and take my wine to my room. My next visit to Church Lounge I came with two others and sat in the main area. Despite repeated requests for waters, none arrived until one of my companions asked for a fourth time. Attentiveness is one of the primary reasons I like hotel bars. Typically you'll find folks in hotel bars at the top of their game. Sadly, this isn't so at the Church Lounge. read more

So this place is convenient if you stay at the TriBeCa grand or are in the area in general. Reading the other reviews I thought I would be dropping a lot of cash but it didn't turn out do bad at all. I got a sparkling cava to start the evening. We got 4 desserts- the apple tart, crime brûlée, molten cake with espresso ice cream and the last was rather forgettable and was therefore forgotten. My fave was the creme brûlée but that was because it tasted like custard that my aunt used to make for me when I was little. The tart was decent and the molten cake was a little of a let down but the ice cream saved the cake. Total bill came to 36 bucks each person. read more

I was quite excited to go inside this place, but after 10 seconds of walking through the doors, I've realized that there is nothing special that will get me to come back here. I didn't order the most expensive thing on the menu, because I wanted to give this place another try, I ordered the BLT. I was excited because it's a Japanese bread, but the bread was burnt. The bread taste like toast, that my mother would make with butter. Just said Japanese in my opinion to sound classy and fancy to price it more expensive.The last time I was disappointed. I don't know because if it was the last call why it was served to me below standards. I was literally the last person that day to get food and the manager seems a little grouchy, so I wasn't going to mention anything. I'm not impressed with the jazz music. In rating Church Lounge @ Tribeca Hotel I was between 2-3 stars buuuuuut since Yelp defines 2 stars as "Meh. I've experienced better" - I'm going to have to go with 2 stars. Now don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the place - I've had some really great times here and the music is almost always on point, DJ -wise, not the "bands" they book, because I've seen some awful "musicians" play in the downstairs part...their happy hour isn't AWFUL in the grand scheme of things ($7 for simple well drinks, champagne and their house red and white) and they have a limited but tasty happy hour good menu (order lots because the portions are painfully small!). It's a pretty interesting shape and it's dark, but the music is played at a volume that encourages conversation - making Tribeca Grand Hotel a good place to perhaps begin a date or an outing with the girls. I would come back here with the right company, again I stress, I've been here maybe 4 or 5 times now and I do always have a nice time. Bartenders can sometimes be snobby, but it's expected with a hotel lobby bar that tries to be more "exclusive" and "uppity" than it really is. I'm sure I'll be back if I'm in the neighborhood or if there is a corporate/sponsored event here...meh. read more

The service was friendly and prompt enough and the burger I had was also nice. The reason for one star is because they tried to screw me on my check. When I asked for the check I was presented with the credit card print out without the itemized receipt. This annoys me in general, but I usually don't say anything and just pay it. This time however my total amount seemed high so I asked another bar tender for the itemized receipt. When it came I discovered that the reason my check was so high is because they had already added 20% gratuity. First off, adding 20% gratuity is shady business anyway (it was only me on the check, not a big party), but to then not publicize it in anyway is completely dishonest. I always tip 20%, so had I not asked for the itemized receipt, I would have tipped a total of 44% (because I'd be tipping on a tip). I'm super pissed about this and will not go back and would advise anyone else to avoid this place, or if you must go, at least make sure you get an itemized receipt. These greedy little jerks behind the bar are making a killing off other peoples negligence. You can get a burger and beer every bit as good from any number of places near by and not get screwed while you're doing it. read more

On The Deep End, first year associates argue in court, remove board members, drink on hotel rooftops, ride in Porsches, and sleep with each other. They have $500 dinners and clients send them cupcakes. Real life circa 2010 goes like this. We work like mad to close a deal, our offices are strewn with empty Sun Chips bags and cans of Diet Coke, then leave the office before 11 for the first time in a week and it feels like the heavens have opened. Closing dinner? Pasta at a friend's apartment, watching the Deep End and 30 Rock, then I take the subway home. On hearing that my deal has finally closed and that this is what closing dinners now look like, my friend Ted orders me out of the apartment and to meet him at the Tribeca Grand at midnight. The Blood and _____ (it's not Sand, it's the other one! Damn you, website) is the absolutely PERFECT cocktail. I wish I had invented it myself. It contains all of my favorite elements - citrus, good gin, and something spicy. In this instance, cardamom. Which I am utterly obsessed with. The space is modern, industrial, and hot. The DJ plays my favorite remixes, including the Daft Punk mashup of MGMT's Time to Pretend. For a second after midnight on this chilly Thursday in February, I can believe that maybe The Deep End is right and this is fabulous and fancy after all. read more

Best 2 of the cast: - Overgrown frat boys ordering round after round of lemon drop shots. And dancing in circles with a small group of girls. WTF ... - Don Juan-Guido romancing Mrs. Doubtfire. While they were sipping their white zin, they were each teaching each other the finer points of dirty dancing ... licking one another's earlobes ... Church wasn't a rollicking rock and roll concert but, I think people are being way to hard on it. Tribeca is pretty sleepy save for a few places so, don't go expecting Church to be a party out of page 6. That being said, the space is nice, big and situated in the middle of the tribeca grand atrium (let a celeb try to sneak past you). Furniture is ultra mod and posh. Our waitress was attentive and quick. The snacks are good. Tuna tar tar was really good. Drinks were typical new york prices....read expensive and overall, a nice place to catch a drink. A few weeks ago a group of 5 people and I had the Sunday brunch buffet here. The food and the service were good. The problem came the next day or so when I realized the restaurant charged me the entire amount of the bill, which we had split 3 ways. What's worse, one of my friend also got charged his 1/3 of the bill. I went back to the hotel and spoke with the food&beverage manager who told me I would get a call from the GM the next day to sort things out. It has been over 3 weeks and I still haven't heard back. I have called them, left voice mails and emailed them. Still no news. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to file a claim with my bank. Dear Manager who looks like Leo DiCaprio, just because you look like a celebrity in his heyday doesn't mean you should be a total prick. You are awful. I have never been somewhere with such bad customer service. Seriously. It started at the bottom and went all the way to the top. Every person I met who worked here SUCKED. Yes, the hotel is swanky, but since it is filled with such terrible staff, a visit to the Church Lounge is absolutely not worth it. A good friend of mine had an event here, which turned out a huge crowd and brought the Tribeca Grand a ton of business their stuffy and empty lounge would definitely not have received otherwise. From their event coordinator not telling anyone that there was an event planned (one that was being coordinated for months), to the terrible manager described above rudely trying to kick us out early by turning up the music to unbearable levels and moving chairs in the middle of the lounge, and the bartenders not honoring the arranged specials and taking an hour and a half to get small plates like sliders out, it was clear that the staff of the Church just doesn't give a damn about anyone but their pretentious selves. read more

This place isn't worth it. I went on a Saturday AT 2pm! Not prime time so I should've gotten better service. They took about half hour to make my 1st martini. They were impossible to get ahold of even though they were standing 6 feet away. They took their sweet time and put me in the back burner. I stayed for another drink after because the drink was actually tasty and by my 2nd drink i wanted to eat so i had the brunch buffet. the buffet was pretty good. Anyway, i work 2 blocks away and i won't be returning. shove the snobbery up your asses bartenders.
