Roxy's near Cedar Hill on Walker used to be great, but since they started in their new building on Jenkins Rd. and they started to franchise out all over the place, the quality has gone down. Still, with all my bashing, ROXY's is better than most Hawaiin food in Oregon and that is a fact. On the bashing side of the review, you shouldn't even get me started on the fly (yes flies and Gnat) control problem they have in their new building at the Jenkins Rd...I think they must leave their doors open a lot for fresh air or what have you. When I see a rail (line of food) that has even a single gnat flying around the food bins, it is just disgusting. The old A Frame building on Walker had it's own problems with bugs, but it's as if the bugs followed the sweet offerings of ROXY's to their new location. One cannot blame them in the least! I went to the Jenkins location this evening. So disappointing. There are self serve pumps for teriyaki and hot sauce where the utensils and napkins are. This evening there were kids playing with them and I didn't especially want to know what they'd been doing before messing with something I was potentially going to eat. I asked for one of the pre-filled containers back of the counter, as I hoped those would have been filled in a more sanitary environment. I was told that wasn't possible, as those were for to-go orders only. I said I was a to-go order. "For mobile to-go orders only." Really? Really. Customer service has always been spotty here. Meeting up with an old friend who recommended this place as we were looking for huge portions and they did not disappoint. All for an incredibly reasonable price. It's always a pleasant sign when you can step out of your car and smell the grill from outside. We were a little rushed for time, so even though the pineapple garlic chicken was what drew me in, I went with the regular Garlic chicken. That being said, I was still happy with this. The chicken retained its deep fried crunchy while still being soaked in a garlic teriyaki sauce. We've been enjoying Roxy for a few years now. However after the move from Walker to Jenkins the overall quality has been dropping. We desired to give Roxy one more go. We ordered two sets of garlic chicken, a kalbi and an order of beef. The beef was dried out and had a lot of cartilage and gristle which was disappointing. That however is not what earned the one star rating. After our family ate most of our meal I found a piece of raw chicken mixed in with the last bit of our garlic chicken (see photo). This is super upsetting as the garlic chicken is battered and fried and the chance for this type of cross contamination should never arise. I'm really hoping that myself, wife and two young children (2 and 7) don't have a food born illness come tomorrow. Again, we are really upset about this and will not be returning again. read more

I love Roxy's. It's a little hole in the wall joint that serves up the most delicious food. I always make a point to eat here when I'm in Beaverton. The kahlua pork and kalbi chicken tempted me most last night so that's what I got. A scoop of rice, veggies and macaroni salad topped with 2 sunny side eggs rounded the meal out perfectly. So yummy!! Everyone who works here is always friendly and just plain happy to be at work. The interior looks like they picked up a roadside food stand from Hawaii and dropped it into the middle of Beaverton. One of my favorite spots and best Hawaiian food in Portland! You can order online or in person, and they are great at enforcing social distancing rules. If you order at the counter, they will ask for your number, ask you to wait in your car, and call you when your order is ready. My go-to order is the Sweet Garlic Chicken plate lunch with extra mixed sauce (1/2 teriyaki 1/2 sriracha). The Sweet Garlic Chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside, and juicy and tender on the inside. The plate lunch normally comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad, but I usually sub out the mac salad for an extra scoop of rice. This time, I ordered a plate lunch with 1/2 Kalua Pork and 1/2 Sweet Garlic Chicken. The pork is so tender and packed with a great smoky flavor. The staff is always friendly and my order is always made ready quickly. Even during lunch hours when there's a line out the door, my food is still ready within 20-30 minutes. They also sell individual bottles of the sauces they use. The prices have increased slightly over the past few years, but still very reasonable. This was recommended by a friend who said that this is hands down his favorite Hawaiian food. It had been on the list of places to try for quite some time. When he first mentioned it, the new location was close to being opened. We finally found a time when we were out and about and stopped in around lunchtime. The first thing we noticed was the photos of a few items on the wall with prices. I thought, 'okay, this is one of those simple menu places and we'll find something out of these 8 or so items.' Because I'm a nosy one, I decided to kind of move around people while my husband stood in line to check out the food coming and out see what else was going on. I saw menus taped up right next to the register, but assumed they were for catering. Finally my husband made it to the front of the semi-long line and as we were starting to order, I asked the cashier if this was the catering menu. She said no, that's our menu. Tiny little writing that most people have to bend down to see. I asked if there was a paper menu we could hold...nope! This is an extremely terrible design, and I have to admit, I was quite irritated about it. I didn't take it out on her, but this just doesn't make sense for a business. Either have a menu on the wall that everyone can read (or even that minuscule one next to the door where you get stuck standing waiting to place your order) or have ones you can hold in your hand. It's awfully difficult and rude to stand there and make a quick decision when you have a whole line behind you. Okay, so getting past the menu situation, we ordered pineapple chicken, teriyaki chicken, chow mein and fried rice for 1 plate and sweet garlic chicken, kalua pork and the traditional sides of white rice and macaroni salad. Everything was pretty darn good, except the kalua pork. It wasn't bad, but just not the best I've ever had. Always heard great things about Roxy's and finally had a chance to try it out today with a group of friends. For a Saturday after 3pm, the line to wait wasn't long and moved fast. Friends who have been before said the portions were pretty filling so we decided to get three entrees for the four of us. We got garlic chicken, kalua pork, and teriyaki chicken- all with mac salad as the side. I appreciated the fact that the restaurant had a sign saying everything was made fresh to order so the wait would be 10 minutes and honestly, the wait went by swiftly. With paper plates by the front counter and condiments/silverware off at the other end of the restaurant it was self serve. The inside seating isn't too spacious but outdoor seating of picnic tables is great. The smells of all the goodness from the kitchen comes outside which made me even more excited to eat. The garlic chicken was fried perfectly, the crunch when biting into it was nice but it wasn't oily which was a plus and fresh batch of the sauce made too. Not too much garlic flavor though, maybe because the sauce didn't have enough time to marinate into the chicken and the chicken pieces seemed small as there was more fried batter around it.The kalua pork was very salty, but nothing a little rice couldn't fix and the chicken teriyaki was soft and grilled flavor was actually tasted. For me, the mac salad was my favorite! So good and even better with some of the condiments. Left feeling happy and full, it was a good idea to share entrees and excited to try other options. Cool that you can sample as well which I will take advantage of in the future. With multiple locations, one will get their Roxy's fix and for my first time and having high expectations, it was really good! read more

My daughter was begging for shoyu chicken all week. So I took her in there two nights before Christmas. Uh oh. They were out of almost everything, including (gasp)... shoyu! OH NO! We got Orange Chicken instead, for five people. They packaged it family style for us, which I like. Rice in two containers, mac salad in another, chicken in two more... you know what? It was DELICIOUS! Big relief. I didn't think my nine year old would survive this. She did. The chicken was crisp, nicely sauced, had real pieces of orange zest in it I think, not too sweet, just right. Everyone ate it and was happy. My brother in law, who had never had Hawaiian and thought the mac salad was weird until he bit into it... then he stole someone else's on top of his own. That good.
