Primarily Japanese Auto should change their name to Primarily Can't Fix Anything. Total 100% rip off, unless you're fine getting your time and money wasted. My car began failing as I was getting off the freeway and as I drove further down Miracle Mile, I knew it was beginning to stall so I drove into the parking lot of Aaron's, remembering there was a mechanic there. I walked in and explained my car was breaking down and asked if they could fix it. I did not have an appointment, and was a first-time client, but they took my car and had it fixed with a new alternator within two hours, including having a part delivered. I truly am grateful my car stalled near your shop and it's been working great for the past month since the incident. The office manager was also very kind to me and explained things very plainly and gave me options to make things more affordable, and made recommendations on things I should fix in the future which were not urgent. They saved me money from having the car towed to my usual mechanic and I'd definitely go back and recommend to others that the place is run fairly.

But here's what I need other customers to know: the front desk experience is a coin flip. I came in prepared - diagnostic codes, symptom history, a clear explanation of what I needed - and was met with immediate pushback about how they "can't reproduce codes." Here's the thing: I wasn't asking them to reproduce codes. I was giving them background information to help diagnose my car. The correct response to a prepared customer walking in with context is "that sounds great, we'll take a look." Instead I got defensiveness and an argumentative attitude that made me feel like I was doing something wrong by being an informed customer. There are people out there, like me, who aren't just looking for a shop that can turn wrenches. We're looking for a shop where the person at the front desk can just relax, listen, and communicate like a professional. I ended up walking out without leaving my car. That's a real shame, because on price and mechanical quality alone, this would be my go-to shop. The mechanics deserve better representation at the front desk.

They charged $160 for a diagnostic which would be fine except I gave them the report from AutoZone who had run a diagnostic hours prior. And typically when you do the work, a garage will then credit that diagnostic fee to the work being done. They charged $604 total after I protested about the spark plug parts cost. Originally they wanted $200 for the spark plugs part. After protesting, they charged $176 for the Spark Plugs (parts) alone. $240 for the labor and $160 to diagnose something that was already diagnosed. When I told them the max fee for spark plus is $50, (I'm ok with companies marking-up costs but not at over 240%), they gave me $40 off. Still an astronomic cost for changing spark plugs, especially in Tucson. They did give me my car back in 1 day though, which I appreciated.
