Brought my trusted suburu in thinking I needed bumper fixed after a cross country road trip to move to Tucson. Through due diligence and expert mechanics, they found more than that. I brought carbon for service along my road trip and they did such a poor job!! EDITED AFTER CORRECTIONS WERE MADE There was a subtle red flag within a minute during my first phone call. The person was pointedly irritated at my question regarding morning drop-off time. Dealing with the thick traffic to access the single lane drive into the parking area makes the scheduled times at the absolute worst traffic times - another big red flag. Our car had a power antenna that worked fine, before. In their zeal to take the car on a 10 mile test ride they broke the antenna taking the car through a car wash with the antenna still up. Not the sharpest tools in the shed there. NOW FIXED We dropped the car off with only 2 gallons in the tank. The out of gas warning light was not on. When we picked it up at 4:45ish the warning light came on when we started it, indicating it was down to about 1 gallon or less. A test drive is expected. Even a 10 mile drive is acceptable, especially if a system reset is needed. But when a customer drops off a car that gets so low its warning light comes on during "testing" then a reasonable, thinking ahead kinda shop would have or get a gallon of quality brand name Premium gas to add to the car and adding it to the final bill. Chris' excuse after phoning him was - we don't put any gas in anyone's car, it may not be their preferred brand or grade - as if they've gotten complaints of Shell or Chevron premium tainting some sniveler's quarter-tank of QT regular. As if... Chtis' lying became absurd as his story changed along the way. He nor the shop never mentioned the broken antenna when they called us at 4;15 to let us know it was ready for pickup. It wasn't until we had driven thru the thick and dangerous rush hour traffic outside their shop that Chris then tells us we could leave it for another day while they procure and install a "new"? or used antenna. Apparently Primarily Japanese isn't very familiar with the old adage: Honesty is the best policy. During our initial phone call I listed a few items I wanted inspected. Not one word was spoken nor written on the scant information printed on their scant receipt regarding any inspection(s); just a total fail in that regard. So asking for certain tasks doesn't matter with Primarily Japanese. They focused on the main maintenance task with zero regard for our request to check a few other things. Because of their dishonesty we now wonder if the initial main needed work was ever even performed. We are now forced to either take a few parts off to inspect the alleged new parts ourselves or hire a different shop to do post "repair" inspection. As a local business owner (with 100% five star reviews) I wouldn't dream or nightmare treating my clients the way we were treated by Primarily Japanese. Save yourself the time and frustration and go to any other shop, necause almost sny other shop wouldn't attempt to lie as much as Primarily Japanese lies. This review is being written early on "the day after" If Primarily Japanese and Chris are being forthright in their verbal promise to rectify the broken antenna today, this review will be edited to reflect their correction. Still though, no real apology from Chris, only laughter; likely and hopefully a nervous laughter at being caught lying. EDIT Joe the owner called us, discussed the issues and arranged for the repair today, the day after. He explained a few things more clearly than previous communications with the employees we had dealt with yesterday. Excellent speed in rectifying the broken antenna. Still, we were almost convinced every issue was our fault. There were lapses in communication between employees that are human mistakes. We aren't thrilled but satisfied the maintenance and repairs were done adequately. Overall, Joe made things right. His shop is capable and qualified and he strives to do honest and fair work. read more

Keeping this brief... Left my car there all day for what should have been 2 minor repairs. Instead I got a laundry list amounting to $2200 dollars of "recommended preventative maintenance", and excuses on why they couldn't make the repairs - both of which weren't complicated. Took my car to a small shop and both fixes were done without a phone call or text message saying "we can't figure this out." Primarily Japanese Auto should change their name to Primarily Can't Fix Anything. Total 100% rip off, unless you're fine getting your time and money wasted. We were very impressed with this place. Jacob was our go-to person and even called Enterprise to lower our rate because repairs were taking so long. Bought the car in Cleveland and it had bad rust damage. I feel confident driving my car again after Primarily Japanese gave it a thorough check out. First timer at Primarily Japanese Auto Service and I must say I was impressed! They were very nice and didn't try to upsell like some places do and I didn't have to wait forever for my oil change. We brought our 2008 Mazda CX-9 here for a oil change and to check everything before we drove it back home to NY. Right before close, we were given a list of all the things we needed to do totaling $4700 - more than the car is worth. The biggest thing was the drive shaft which they told me would cost $1690 with the part being the biggest cost - I went online and found the part new for $340 and they told me that they would not install a customer supplied part - mind you the part they wanted to charge me for was $1200 - I ordered the part and had it installed for $256 by another 4.8 rated mechanic saving $1099 so you tell me if you should use this mechanic. And oh they wanted to charge me $729 for front brake pads and rotors and I had that done at the other 4.8 rated mechanic and it cost me $370 so enough said. They had several "recommedations" for my truck, one was for motor mounts, which they said would be $2200. Another was for A/C, which they put at $2k because there was a leak at the engine. Finally took it to another mechanic, the mounts, yes, needed-$600, the A/C, the leak was at the input valves which is a standard replacement with any service. In any event, the other company- $200 for the A/C, and $800 for the mounts. For a total of $3200 less. This company is beyond overpriced. Don't go here read more

Just took my daughter's 2015 Honda CRV in for inspection and service. Got a detailed service price quote in a reasonable amount of time (engine gasket, brake inspection, brake flush, cvt transmission fluid change, and spark plug). Had a couple of questions and they reviewed the service quote with me over the phone. They did not try to upsell me on anything. These guys are honest and they did an excellent job on her vehicle. Called them to scheduled an appointment only to be told my 1997 4runner and my 94 Land cruiser where not years they work on so I'm giving them 3 stars for a misleading name. I told them I needed a power steering pump replacement on a 2005 Pathfinder I was looking to flip they said they could not give me a quote over the phone and I would have to bring it in. First thing I want to say is Rick and his "Band" Rock the House!! Totally honest and reasonable. Great mechanics, friendly and they take the time to listen. My first experience with them was in October of 2023. I first took my car to Brake Masters where they almost had me convinced that I had to buy a new car. They ripped me off for $149 for a diagnosis that they didn't even do and told me it was the transmission and would cost me $7,500 out the door. I took it to Primarily Japanese for a second opinion and it turned out to be the brakes! And "Brake Masters" didn't see this!! Rick and his gang saved the day!!! UPDATE ON 12/23/2021: I had called in for a quote on new struts and shocks for my 2013 Prius V in April of this year. Everyone else had said around $1000. Joe, who owns Primarily Japanese Auto Services said, "Nope. I won't give you a quote. I have no idea what is wrong and why would I quote you a price when they may be perfectly fine?" I was totally amazed and thought he was joking. So I asked again and he gave the same answer. I had a GroupOn to Meinke for a tune up so I brought it in December 18th, 2021. They did a check up and said it needed THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS OF WORK. I immediately called Primarily Japanese and they said bring it in and they'll do a whole check up for 60 bucks. I brought it in and they were super friendly and extremely chill. What was wrong? NOTHING. They got the car back to me the same day and said that it is great condition and just needs a new back windshield wiper blade. I told them about Meineke and they just laughed. Take your car to Primarily Japanese and save yourself time, bs, and overcharging for fixes that don't need to be done. I'm so glad I found them on Yelp! months ago and was finally able to take my car there. I will never go anywhere else. Think about this: $3,000 to a corporation who doesn't care about you or $60 for a LOCALLY owned business that does care about you and will not rip you off. No question for me at all. Ps. The Meineke GroupOn was actually the exact same price as the normal oil change at the Meineke store. So, basically corporate for Meineke lied and just made it seem like a good deal. I have been a customer of Primarily Japanese for 11 years. I am continually impressed with the quality of service, both to my car and to me as a customer. I give them credit for the fact that my 2004 Toyota Camry still runs fine. When they do a repair, they are careful to check other parts of the car and let me know if anything else needs to be done or what to watch for later. Recently the check engine light was on. I called and Joe had me stop by that afternoon. It turned out that the engine temperature was too low; he did something to fix it, and didn't charge me. When I call, whoever answers the phone knows who I am and my car. And besides my trust in them and the solid job they've done keeping this 20-year-old car going, this shop has integrity. And I care about that. They provide their workers with health and dental insurance and a dedicated lunch hour every day. They take care of their workers, who then take care of me. Called to get a quote for pads and rotors , front and back, replaced on my car last Friday. The guy who answered said we don't give quotes on the phone and he was pretty short about it. But I thought, maybe he was having a bad day, so I emailed them via their website instead for a quote for pads and rotors front and back for my year make and model but they in return sent me a piece of paper with my request with no price estimate. WTF? This place is sketchy. The guy come off as having a big time attitude of we don't want or need your business, so I'll take my money elsewhere. read more

I've been using Primarily Japanese for 10 years. Not only do they do a great job when my car needs service or repair, but Joe and Rick have been my go-to's for advice regarding any auto work that they don't typically do. When the "check engine" light is on, they check it. No charge, unless it needs work, which I then schedule. Recently, someone clipped the front bumper guard on my parked car and knocked it askew. No note. Although Primarily Japanese doesn't do body work, I called Joe to ask where to go. He asked me to come down so he could look at it. When I got there a couple of days later, Rick looked at it, inspected the damage, and gave me a card of another shop (Affordable Auto Painting) that he said was reasonable and fair. They are. You just can't match the customer service, expertise, and integrity of Primarily Japanese. read more

After making an appointment to insure getting in, I brought my Kia to PJAS and spoke to Aaron about what I needed. He explained they only do what is necessary while following the Kia 40K manual. I felt comfortable with him; he said the car would be ready later in the afternoon but I received a text in early afternoon, They replaced the battery, changed the oil and Cabin Filter and checked all required maintenance. I couldn't be happier. I moved back to Tucson after 58 years and, like finding a good dentist, finding an auto repair that is trustworthy and fairly priced. Go! read more

I brought my FJ Cruiser here. I told them I had some strange sounds coming from the engine compartment. They were frequent; basically whenever the car was running. The mechanic said there was nothing wrong but that they could diagnose the lights I had on my dash. I told them I already knew what the lights were for but if they wanted to try and fix that issue as well that would be fine. In the end they sent me away with no repairs and 300 dollars in diagnostic fees for things I already had diagnosed. I have never been charged for diagnosing, but that's beside the point because a few days after I got my car back I blew a head gasket when driving and it completely totaled my FJ. I called Primarily Japanese after this happened just to express my concern for their quality of work. I also expressed my concern for being taken seriously as a young woman in a mechanic shop. I was grossly overcharged and no one actually addressed the issue I went in there for. The person I spoke to on the phone said the owner would call me to discuss what had happened in more detail which I appreciated at the time, but I never did receive that call. I would not recommend Primarily Japanese. read more

Recently, I was at the grocery. When I came out, the underside of my car had a lot of oil underneath. A man parked across from me had pointed it out. I looked under the hood, more oil. The man across from me me said he could help. He would follow me home, and fix the problem. I elected to go to Primarily Japanese. I have all my service work done there. They cleaned the oil on the engine,, topped off all the fluids. they watched the car for a couple of days to see if any fluids were leaking. I was the victim of a scam. In total, I know Primarily Japanese spent several hours checking my car. They did not charge me anything. I will keep coming back to Primarily Japanese.
