Sooters was recommended as being a shop that didn't gauge. I'm from out of town and I think they took advantage because of that with their pricing. They charged $160 for a diagnostic which would be fine except I gave them the report from AutoZone who had run a diagnostic hours prior. And typically when you do the work, a garage will then credit that diagnostic fee to the work being done. They charged $604 total after I protested about the spark plug parts cost. Originally they wanted $200 for the spark plugs part. After protesting, they charged $176 for the Spark Plugs (parts) alone. $240 for the labor and $160 to diagnose something that was already diagnosed. When I told them the max fee for spark plus is $50, (I'm ok with companies marking-up costs but not at over 240%), they gave me $40 off. Still an astronomic cost for changing spark plugs, especially in Tucson. They did give me my car back in 1 day though, which I appreciated. read more

charged me $168.00 for diagnostic pointing to an electrical issue. WRONG! $400 in hard to find electrical parts and 6 months later discovered it was a fuel issue that could have been fixed that day. Needed an injector locally available. Asked for a refund and they wanted to argue. try elsewhere read more

I needed my car battery replaced but I had a a metal rod in the way and I didn't have the tools to replace it. They replaced it in about 10 minutes completely free of charge. If I have a bigger issue with my truck going forward I will definitely be going to this shop first. read more

Went there twice with good service, but the last time I went to get a diagnostic it was terrible! Already told them what I thought the issue was, and they ran a full diagnostic of my truck without telling me, and never telling me there would be a fee to check on the rattle sound. Come the next morning, they charged me $100 to confirm what it was! Topped off my coolant without calling me to see if it was okay, and still charged me for it. Never ONCE did they give me a heads up that I was going to have to pay! When I called back to ask what that all was about, they told me that I should EXPECT to pay because my truck was getting "serviced" when I never approved a full diagnostic. I had such a great experience here! My car had a chronic rattle in the back that just got worse on Tucson'a bumpy roads. The Ford dealer told me they would charge me $130 just to tell me what was wrong, and Sooter's charged me only $50 to fix the problem. The staff were great, the office dachshund was a sweetheart and answered all my pet-related que, and they were done hours sooner than they thought they would be. Also love that their location is right downtown instead of out in the burbs. UPDATE just went back and they were awesome again - fixed 3 separate problems and still only $150. I'm traveling from San Francisco. On I-10, I'd struck a large chunk of truck tire retread while doing 75 mph. The impact tore the cowling over the left front tire completely in half. The severed pieces were dragging on my tire making a horrendous noise. I'm thinking there might be real damage to the car as I limped into Sooter's (I found the garage through a search on Yelp). They assigned a mechanic who went straight to work removing the screws and clips which held the cover in place. Next, they inspected the front end to assure there was no additional damage. I was at their garage a total of fifteen minutes and they wouldn't accept payment for the work. The folks in the office wished me well on my travels as I departed. Nice folks. It seems the least I can do is to write this 'thank you' on Yelp! read more

Make Sooter's your first choice because they really care about your experience. I was recently stranded in Tucson with two bad front axles and one bad wheel bearing on my Toyota Forerunner 180,000 miles. After several shops turning me away, Sooner's Kim gave me the green light for diagnosis and then a fair and reasonable estimate of the work needing to be done. Then Kim went ahead and had her expert crew fix my vehicle in one day. I was on my way in 6 hours! Thanks to other's reviews I've been working with Sooter's since I moved here a few years back. I have yet to pay for much of anything because of complications with some strange custom parts on my used car and because Kim and her crew are so trustworthy. They recently helped out with some repairs and were very patient with me and my ridiculous insurance company that miscommunicated key details. They were pretty nice which is why I'm giving them 2 stars. However, I called for a phone quote knowing what work I needed done. They initially priced it at around $800, but said I needed to bring it in so they could take a look and make sure that's what was needed. I took it in, they said exactly what I knew needed to be replaced but also recommended an alignment afterwards. However the price was now $1500. Quite a large jump. After saying I wasn't going to do that since it was so different from the original quote, I was then charged $53 for them taking a look at it. I won't be coming back here, as I feel I was charged $53 for them to tell me something I already knew + double the quote? How does that make any sense? read more

The service was very prompt, but don't use Sooter's for an auto pre-purchase. They missed a major element.

We had some fuel valve issues on our motor home while passing through the town. Thank the stars above we found this little gem. This place has the friendliest team! They were very hospitable for the time we were waiting, and we really didn't have to wait long at all. The mechanic was Amazing and super knowledgeable. I can't believe the great work he can perform in such crazy hot weather. The prices were perfectly fair. Kim was extremely sweet and helpful and even helped entertain my 2 year old son, which was priceless in that situation. What a fabulous experience we had. We are so grateful! read more

Sooter's Auto Service is the best auto shop I've experienced in awhile. I have had a great experience with this company and I highly recommend them. Great and honest customer service. We were in a pinch to get one of our company vehicles fixed, and the customer service experience that we received was prompt and truthful. I interacted pretty extensively with two of the mechanics and the woman running the office, and all of them were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. About three months ago, I bought a car from a very dishonest individual named Armen Sarrafian. I took it it to Sooters for a pre-purchase inspection before my purchase and they didn't find any major problems. The very next day, the car died on Oracle in the middle of the day in 100 degree + weather. I was able to get it re-started, but it overheated and blew a hose. I thought it was a total loss at this point, with a blown motor. Why is this story relevant? The following Monday, I went into Sooters and explained to them what happened. Shortly thereafter, Kim Sooter contacted me personally. They towed my vehicle free of charge and diagnosed the problem, again without charge. They told me then that a compression check is not part of their pre-purchase protocol and that the car had a blown head gasket at the time of purchase. This was a very stressful time for me, but also for the mechanics and the owner Kim. She again called me later in the week, to express her concern and also to offer a discounted rate for replacement of the head gasket. I opted to pass on that because I couldn't afford it at the time. Instead of a complete overhaul, I took up Kim on her offer to 'seal' the block, which was done for free. Since then, my car has been running ok and I have been able to get some utility out of it. I was treated like a human being throughout the entire process. Pretty rare in the mechanic business it seems to me. I'll be going back to Sooters to service my car. read more

I've been taking my '98 Jeep Cherokee to Sooter's for about a year now and couldn't be more pleased with the work they've done and the prices they charge. I've twice asked them for a front-to-back inspection and each time received really well thought-out advice that made sense for my budget. Although repair prices aren't cheap here (would they be cheap anywhere?), I have no problem paying for two reasons: 1) The mechanics have always explained exactly what needs to be done and why, and 2) They stick by their work; I had one particular problem resurface just a few weeks after repair--took the car back to Sooter's and they re-did the work without charge. Not only do these guys work efficiently and expertly, but they've even done FREE work for me. I had my car towed to Sooter's recently because it wouldn't start. Apparently there was a problem with the car's computer which they were able to resolve in just a few minutes. They also performed a series of diagnostics trying to identify the cause of the problem. Finding nothing, they called me the next day to pick up the car. Remarkably, they didn't charge one thin dime even though they corrected the car's issue and spent time trying to diagnose the problem. Excellent service, great work, and fair pricing. I won't take my car anywhere else. read more

Awesome people. I am a single woman with little knowledge of cars, and there are many stories of dishonest mechanics. My experience with Sooter's makes me feel less skeptical. My car started making a loud rattling noise after I went over some railroad tracks when I was driving home. I went to Sooter's because it was close to where I live and because it was open early. I called them 10 mins before they closed, and they said they had no opening for 5 days. I asked them if I could describe the problem and have them tell me if I can wait that long. After I did, they told me to bring in my car the next morning so they can make sure it's at least safe to wait that long. 7:30 I got there; they took one listen and figured out where the problem was. They still didn't have any time to fix my car for 5 days, but took a look to make sure it wasn't something that would get worse before then. They lifted the car up and found the loose shield, secured it up, and sent me on my way. I was at work by 8:05, and they didn't charge me for the work. No return visit needed. Again, awesome people. Plus the dachshund is a cutie. read more

Sooter's is great! As a grad student and someone new to Tucson, I took my car here based on Yelp reviews. You really can't beat their location - I'd drop my car off in the morning and ride my bike to campus, and then usually pick it up by the end of the day. The people here are friendly, knowledgable, and honest. I've taken my car there several times for multiple repairs, and been 100% happy with the repairs every time. On my 2001 Ford Taurus, they've diagnosed several things like a broken camshaft alternator and fuel pump. The fuel pump was a mystery for awhile because the car would never misbehave at the shop. They worked hard to diagnose it correctly and the mechanic even drove it home for the night to see if it would act up. All I can say is great service! I just graduated and will be leaving Tucson, and I'm sad to say ill be losing a mechanic I trust! read more

Fast, smart, reasonable, and down to earth. Perfect. I first took my car for service because of the good reviews and they're literally two blocks from me. They made the repair fast and reasonable and explained what they did. I needed a new transmission, so they referred me to a great shop for that. I've been back to Sooter's several times since. The other day, I asked if they could fix my brakes before I had to go up to Phoenix. They checked my brakes to make sure they were safe -- free! -- then scheduled me to come back to fix the problem at a later date. They will prioritize appointments based on the urgency of the situation. read more

Just took my car in to Sooter's for the first time after using another very efficient, but HIGHLY expensive shop. Kim is very friendly, affable and above all, knowledgeable. I had a somewhat obscure problem with my mode actuator doors and I was calling around to various shops and Sooter's was the only one who talked to me in-depth about the problem over the phone (the rest were of the "bring it on in!" sort quoting me twice as much as Sooter's estimate). I left my car at Sooter's for an oil change and A/C service. In the end Kim told me that I didn't need to get the work done on the mode actuator doors, it was optional. And expensive. That's what I like, someone who is honest and could have charged me for something I didn't need, but instead thought about saving me money. LOVE Sooter's and Kim. I highly recommend them! read more

Unbelievable experience. 2006 jeep is very well taken care of, but after almost 11 years, things go wrong. Had car towed to Sooters per a recommendation from my neighbor who has been using this shop for over 35 years. Car arrived at 12:30 pm......they had cars everywhere. I figured they would keep it a few days before I would be able to get it back. Not so. I received a call from Kyle at 1:30 saying it was my starter. He gave me a price (very fair) and I agreed. I asked if it would be done by next day. He said "oh no, it'll be ready by 5:00". Wow. Impressed. Then Kyle called at 3:30 to say it was done! Great service, value pricing. I have been going to Scooter's for roughly 6 months, it is a family owned business and the staff there are amazingly honest and trustworthy people. Some of the mechanics like Paul, Alex, and Kyle are great mechanics who know what they're doing, and do a phenomenal job every time. I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that I take in, and this is the only place in Tucson that I trust to take care of my car. What I love most about Scooter's is when they are done with any said repair, they will then take you to your car and show you what they did, how they did it and so on. They will even show you the parts they took out, and tell you why it needed to be replaced/serviced. They don't charge you for unnecessary things, and usually don't charge you for a simple inspection, they really do a good job, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Awsome service! My 2011 Tacoma was acting up with a strong vibrating and squeaking/clanking noise coming from something in the undercarriage. I had my suspicions that it might be an issue with my driveline or wheel bearings but I am no mechanic and wasn't about to do the work myself. I dropped the truck off shortly after they opened and was please to get a call about an hour later, Scooter's had diagnosed the issue. They replaced the carrier barring and u-joints on my driveline and I was able to pick it up by the end of the day. Great communication by Cruz and Kim of Scooter's auto service. Very knowledgeable shop and reasonable prices for great quality work. I will definitely be back as long as I'm in Tucson and will definitely be recommending them for all things autos. Yet another 5 star for Kim and her crew...this time they changed out the fuel pump on my trusty 2001 Chev Truck. Came in under the estimate and the truck starts like a champ...good for its next 100K miles. As I've said in previous reviews...I can do two things on these computer controlled vehicles ... My car blew up on my first day in Tucson. I had it towed to Sooter's on the recommendation of a friend. Sooter's doesn't do major engine work, so they weren't able to help me with my car, but they baby-sat my car in their lot for a couple days - free of charge - while I got everything else straightened out. They didn't work on my engine, so I can't speak to their value as mechanics, but I can certainly vouch for them as people. They helped me out when I was in a bind and asked for nothing else in return. The very least I can do is tell others how helpful they were. read more

They are efficient in time, effective in diagnosing and repairing, and reasonably affordable. Now that I found them, This is the only shop I will take my cars to! 2006 F150 5.4 triton Had a P300 random multiple cylinder misfire and various throttle body sensor codes. The tech determined it was a bad coil on #5. They also updated the computer. This fixed all my issues and it runs great now. read more

Not sure why there are so many 5 stars. My entire experience with the shop made an already frustrating situation miserable. They are WAYY over priced. I saw the good reviews on yelp and got my car towed there when it broke down. 3 days later they called and told me I need a new fuel pump and battery and were going to charge me 780$. In a hurry to get my car back I agreed. After I agreed I called JT Auto and Firestone. Jt Auto quoted me around 400$ parts and labor and Firestone 500$ parts and labor. I cannot encourage you enough to check out JT Auto before throwing away money at Sooter's. The lady at Sooter's I spoke to on the phone mentioned they were going to look at why the check engine light was on. I never heard back on that and when my car was FINALLY ready to be picked up, 7 days later now, they told my totally was 997$. Apparently, they took it upon themselves to turn off the check engine light by switching spark plugs. Which an extra 200$ to switch spark plugs is absolutely absurd and I didn't even give them permission to do it. When you have car troubles you are usually in a desperate situation and want the fastest cheapest remedy. Neither of which you are going to find at Sooter's. I genuinely feel like I was taken advantage of and want to do everything I can to make sure no one else has to deal with this awful establishment. read more

I initially chose Sooter's cause it was so close to the university where I work and they offered pick up/drop off service at this time due to COVID. Kim was absolutely amazing and friendly. She answered all my questions fully as it was my first time ever getting vehicle service from a garage. They quoted me $150 for a general 30k truck maintenance check, but since my truck was technically near 37k (although, I did buy it used at 20k), they did an average between mileages, and with the extra lil work they had to do on it, came out to $203. The pick up/drop off was a bit rocky considering they were swamped and had a guy call out sick, but we made it work! She explained on the phone what they did/was required and stuck the invoice with the details in the console at drop off. Easy as pie. Will definitely use them again in the near future. read more
