A very inexpensive accommodation for a night passing through. Service was warm and friendly. Food is very limited in town, but there is a little store and yummy taqueria on the block. Room was clean, comfy, and updated, but still has its old school decore/charm. The bed & linens were nice, the pillows were like giant puffy rocks. The deck area was super filthy. Either the cottage was freezing cold or extremely hot when we turned wall heater on and no extra blankets, light comforter provided. No bedside lamp. Blinds broken on all windows No parking available parked on street Barking dogs in adjoining cottage barked for 2.5 hours and throughout night. We did mention this to lobby clerk who replied that they were pet friendly and that the dogs would settle down eventually!!! I almost felt the dogs lived there. I'm a frequent traveler and I love the atmosphere, I definitely do not have to worry about somebody getting violent, and I get clean sheets.

My work booked myself and others rooms for the week. Upon arrival it immediately was apparent that we were not going to enjoy this place. The smell of curry and other foods overpowered the building. The parking situation is terrible and you most likely have to back your vehicle all the way out. My room had hardwood floors that were sticky and the room smelled like mildew and mold. Others had urine stains on their sheets and mattresses. Food left in the microwaves and in the refrigerators. Even what looked like fecal matter on the wall near the outlet in the bathroom. I was planning on taking a shower in the morning until I grabbed a towel and it was wet before anyone used it. We stayed one night, packed our stuff and left. I do not recommend staying here even if it's a last resort. Do yourself a favor and just sleep in your vehicle. read more

The property was terrible. I feel awful describing the property like a junk yard. There is no grill to use and no where to have a bon fire, I was told there was a place to grill and a designated area for bon fires. I saw trash, cut up wood and random junk EVERYWHERE. Outside my room door was a wet moldy mop which smelled horrendous, my guess is they cleaned the floors with that mop which explains the inside of Cottage 7. The walls were filthy, the towels had hair on them. I was afraid to lay on the bed which was actually comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom window displayed rusted old metal and junk. I cleaned that place the best I could, I shouldn't of had to do that. The service was unprofessional but not rude. I will never reccomend this place to anyone. Not ever. With the right staff and an investment I'm sure this place can turn around. I will never know. Outside from this place Jamestown was a ghost town all the restaurants close early, my friend and I could not get dinner Saturday night or a Lyft ride out of the town, we walked to the only place open a bar down the street Hawride and experienced racism, the drive to Yosemite is a windy, long route. On a recent trip to Ironstone Amphitheater to see a concert (in Murphys), I didn't feel like driving all the way back to Sacramento after the show ended. So I decided to book a hotel room - the closest and most affordable was the Royal Carriage Inn. It was about half an hour away from the venue. I checked in before the concert because no one is at the desk after 8 PM. The room was quaint - nothing fancy and nothing big. The basics and all I needed. The old town charm adds to the vibe of this hotel. The bed was soft, the shower was warm and that's all that mattered to me. So if you're looking for a simple night's stay, give Royal Carriage Inn a try. Ps. I don't know why Yelp is saying this place is closed because it's not. I wasn't planning on staying here, but for some reason all the other hotels were either fully booked or way out of my price range. Apparently I picked an expensive weekend! But it was only for one night, so whatever. We stayed in the main building upstairs. The good news is that everything worked. The tv, microwave, shower, toilet, etc. The owner and the housekeeper were very nice and friendly people. The innkeeper especially was informative and honest, which I appreciated. It looks and feels very quaint and authentic. The location is awesome since it's downtown and there is a few nearby places to grab a drink or get dinner. Free parking either behind the building or you can park on the streets. I've read other reviews, so I understand there isn't anything the innkeeper can do about the tiny shower, but because there is no handheld shower, I had to have my back to the wall and the water sprayed me at face level. It was hard to clean your lower half. A handheld shower would be excellent. The walls are paper thin. Again, I get this is an old building and it's not their fault this kid was up at 2am making crazy amounts of noise and again at 8am-10:30am. So yeah, if you stay here, know you'll hear your neighbor's business. The downstairs and the hallway does smell like curry, but the room itself smelled fine. The way the building is built means your view out the window is 10 inches from the wall of the next building. You have zero view or light. There is a skylight that brings an adequate amount of light into the room, which is great until you want to sleep past 6am. There was a blood stain on the towel for the bathroom floor, but since I wasn't going to rub it on my body parts, I didn't request a new one. There were some stains on the bedding (the cover thing on the foot end of the bed), but those immediately get tossed off the bed anyway, so I left it alone. I stayed here recently while on a motorcycle weekend. I saw that the place had great yelp reviews, so while traveling through, on a whim walked in and asked for a room. They were sold out, but someone had literally JUST cancelled. Lucky me! I ended up with a cottage...one that had JUST enough room to put the bike right outside the door. The cottage itself was comfortable, with a queen bed, plenty of room to move about, a flat screen tv, a fridge, and reasonably sized bathroom. Just across the driveway was a huge sitting area, with a patio filled with games to keep teens busy. The beauty of this place is that it's in the heart of Jamestown. EVERYTHING is a short walk away. Score another for moi! Highly recommended. Quiet, reasonably priced, and comfortable. Definitely worth it. Side note....what ISN'T worth it is the "free breakfast" that's included. This is nothing more than coffee, milk, bread, and cereal. Luckily, there's some great restaurants (like Pete's, JUST across the street) that resolve this issue. read more

This place is fantastic, Yelp. Let me tell you. We booked through Kayak, and discovered after we'd booked that the Best Value Inn chain requires a credit card to be presented at check-in, which panicked us, because we don't have credit cards. Oh no! We already paid our rental fees in advance, what if they don't let us check in? This could be a disaster! So I call the place up on the phone, and I get a gentleman who introduces himself as Deep. I tell Deep our problem, and he says not to worry, we can have the check-in hold placed on a debit card instead. He asks us when we're arriving, and we're not arriving until pretty late, but the website says it has a 24-hour check in? And he says the front office closes at 8pm, the website is wrong. But! The dude gives us his cell number, to have us call him when we arrive. So we get there much later than 8pm and Deep is waiting for us to check us in when we arrive. Deep is a hero. When we leave, he tells us he's only temporarily in the area, standing in for an absent manager, and that he normally handles the Best Value Inn locations in San Francisco. He tells us if we plan on staying in SF anytime in the future, to drop him a line. We will most def. take him up on that offer. The building is adorable, the neighborhood is adorable, there's some great restaurants and cute little antique stores in walking distance, the air smells incredible - there are not enough nice things to say about this hotel. Our room was tiny, but it's not like you visit this area to spend all your time in your hotel room. It had a minifridge and a microwave, so big ups for that. read more

Having been born and raised in Sonora I am familiar with most of the motels and inns in the area. I have not stayed at the Royal Carriage in many years until last weekend. I was in town due to a loss in the family and Carly (manager/innkeeper) was amazing from the moment I walked through the front door. She was very friendly and accommodating and made me feel comfortable immediately. Like the other reviewers, I was shown a few different cottages so that I could pick which best suited my needs. Some are very modern with new flooring and granite counter tops. I chose a more 'authentic' cottage (#2) that had a large separate kitchen which was fully stocked, a floor heater and a pot belly stove, comfy bed and rustic/antique furnishings. I felt very welcome and at home during my stay and had access to both the front and rear deck of the main building as well as garden in front of my cottage. Sometimes, in small inns like these, you don't always feel comfortable wondering around the property (especially after dark) because it can feel more like you're poking around someone's home. I called at close to 10pm to ask if I could come get extra towels and was surprised to see Carly's smiling face at my door just two minutes later. Both Carly and her husband really make sure that you have everything you need and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. I would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to anyone visiting the area. This is what you travel to a small town for, hospitality. This quint hotel is 1880's style; oldish but fun. Lots of antiques and old architecture in the hotel. I would recommend it if you prefer gas light over neon. Don't expect modern anything though. If you stand in the middle of the street in front of the hotel, you can see both ends of town. It's only 1/4 mile wide. The nearby restaurants are good. The price was affordable. read more

I really don't know what the other two reviewers are talking about. Maybe a reflection of their own personality or attitudes. I agree that the parking is a one way driveway on their property, but I am very thankful that I can park on property, in fact right by my room. In a historic small town like this, public parking is a premium. There may not be anywhere else to stay in Jamestown that you wouldn't have to park on the street, two blocks away. As for service, they couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. I was a little early and asked if I could go ahead and check in. The hostess said "no problem" and got us checked in. She told me of some of the local things going on this weekend and other little towns to check out, based on what she learned during our conversation. Our room was a cottage. Hardwood floors, private kitchen, dining area, leather couch, double bed. Very clean room in all areas. Smelled fresh. Planter box window over the sink, clean fridge, microwave, stovetop and counters. Before you throw this place under the bus by reading bad, maybe inaccurate reviews, check them out yourself. I'm sure that if you arrived and check the room out and did not like it, they would work something out. We have stayed in many places around the country, and I believe this little establishment is a great value for the accommodations that we received. BTW - all the rooms are sold out tonight. My review might be skewed b/c I did not stay inside the room for very long. It was just a place to shower, get ready, and head on out. The room was pretty clean and I liked the big spacious bed. The bathroom could've been a bit more updated but everything worked just fine and I was happy to see they provided shampoo and shower gel. Didn't get a chance to use the kitchen so don't know if everything worked. It's a shame b/c it was a cute little kitchen. The fridge worked fine. The room rate was probably higher due to it. The only downside was that the free continental breakfast was probably one of the most lackluster spreads I have ever seen. There was just a loaf of white bread (no wheat, no bagels, no muffins, nada) with a stick of butter. Milk w/ 2 types of cereals, instant oatmeal packets, and 2 types of fruit. Wish they would've had at least yogurt or something. We ate a slice of bread and then went to Subway around the corner to grab breakfast sandwiches. read more

But when i got there the mom lady said no dogs but her kid chimed in he said ok. Stayed here for two weeks for a work assignment in the Sonora area. As far as ABVI hotels go, this one is far above those that I have stayed at in the past. Sure, the rooms and bathrooms are small, but they were clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly and while the breakfast was not spectacular (bread, coffee, and cereal), there was fresh fruit. The only problem that I had was that my refrigerator was actually an ice machine. It did keep my food cold, I just had to keep it cracked open a bit to make sure things did not freeze inside. This was kind of annoying at first, but I managed to make do. At least there was a fridge and microwave. I think in the end, if you are looking to stay in a historic hotel an within a short walking distance to several good places to eat and drink, you can't go wrong with the place. The rates are cheaper to the other options in Jamestown, so that should be figured into the overall value of the place. I would definitely stay here again on a short vacation stay. I would actually rate this hotel 3.5 stars, but as that rating does not exist here in Yelp, I will round up to 4 stairs much to the chagrin to all the haters that have given the place 1 star. We looked for basic accommodation for a night while exploring the gold country. We arrived at the late evening however the room wasn't ready. The cleaning lady entered the room while we were in and said she didn't finish to clean the bathroom. We found this situation very uncomfortable so we had to get out of the room while she finished cleaning. Another problem we had was the cold. The temperature outside was below freezing point and the only way to heat the room was with a tiny space heater. When we went to sleep we had to shut it off and we kept waking up over over since it was so cold and the blankets were super light. This place was FILTHY! The place has not been cleaned for months! Room smelled. We paid for a king size bed and got a double. The pillow smelled! The sheets did not fit the bed they were flat sheets and when we would move the sheets would ride up. While trying to pull the sheets back down I noticed there was a green spot that look like a green lifesaver stain on the sheets. It was absolutely disgusting. The bathroom is so tiny that you have to stand over the toilet in order to shut the door. There's a huge gap between the door and the outside where the light shines through all night. Above the window the paint was peeling off in huge chunks. The complementary breakfast was cold cereal and toast. It's a shame because we stayed at this place about seven years ago before the new owners and it was a beautiful place to stay. I've stayed in better places for night $39.99 a night. We paid $120.00. It was so bad that we had actually booked two nights and decided we were leaving after the first night. I do NOT recommend staying there. If I could if zero stars I would. Upon check in we were told if your room is still messy let us know. Keep in mind this was two hours past or scheduled check in time. The "cottage" had old filthy carpets. A curtain rod with no curtains, but the smell it what really gets you. It's a mix of pure death, mold and mildew. The bathroom had chipped tile, a wobbly toilet with 1 ply to and a disgusting plunger right next to it. You accidentally brush up against it when you first sit down. The shower is as small as a coffin and leaks all over the floor. There is no working fan so the moisture is just stuck in the bathroom and kitchen area. Our table had three legs and was constantly falling over if you put anything on it. The sheets stained, walls stained. Shortly after that I found old chicken stuck In the sink which had no disposal and in our recycling can with no bag. I cleaned up the chicken and put it in the recycling been left it outside and notified management that it needed to be thrown away. Which did it happen until the following day. I took care of the rest with my own cleaning supplies. I had unpacked at that point and didn't feel like waiting for a whole cleaning crew to come in and deal with something that I could take care of with my Clorox wipes Lysol and for breeze. Well as much as you can take care of a rundown filthy studio. The stove was missing one of the switches and looked older than the hills. The dishes that were supposedly clean had spots all over them and we're also filthy. No dish soap. We were told that breakfast went until 9 o'clock. I went down at 8:30 and there was no food and cold coffee pots and nobody at the front desk to talk to you. Management fighting with long term tenants. Lamp didn't work next to the bed, the matters older than the hills and the sheets like stained tissue paper. I tried to call twice to talk to management through Priceline and got absolutely nowhere. Tried to talk to them twice when I was actually there but there was no one at the desk either time. So disappointed. read more

OK, talk about a complete opposite reaction...not to mention their freaking annoying ass dogs that should be left at home anyway!! We had a great time. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in...by far. I'll go ahead and list the memorable notes I made from our recent Wed-Sat stay, good & bad. I need to start by saying that this is the most filthy place I've ever been.There is less dust at BURNING MAN. THEY DON'T CLEAN THE HOTEL. AT ALL. DIRT, GRIME. & SMELLS LIKE A CESSPOOL Also, I'd like to mention that no bad hotel, extenuating circumstance, or act of God could really ruin my Holiday. I am not a bitter & angry ex-customer. I appreciate people & challenges and we considered this just a lesson in tolerance during our otherwise lovely family excursion. However, I do not appreciate ignorance & disrespect for customers in a blatant fashion. This is your job, your business, your passion. It should be your livelihood and if you do not want to pursue it, stop doing it. GOOD: 1. I'll start by saying that I could care less about the drive way. It was nice to have parking, right at our door. Anyone can make a 3-point turn to get out or back down the drive without issue. In my opinion this was a perk. 2. The owner (I think). She was a very sweet girl. While I don't think she even tried to offer the necessary things to make-up for the inconveniences we experienced (mentioned later), I do think she's been left in an unfortunate circumstance as the "heir" to this property. She may or not be clear-minded enough to make basic decisions, and candidly shared tales of ex-boyfriends with restraining orders staying on property with her...Made me feel very uncomfortable to say the least. 3. The places ARE cute...minus cobwebs...and dirt. BAD: 1. Pets (NOT) OK - Upon the booking of the room here, maybe about 1.5 months ago, the hotel listing online, and the "owner" on the phone, said that pets were OK, and complimentary at this hotel (motel, at best). Upon our arrival, we are notified that since we booked the room, pets are no longer acceptable at all. No one "had time to call" and that there would now be a fee for having our small, quiet, dog. After enough discussion, she agreed that it wasn't reasonable to charge us & said she would "let it slide". Wow, thank you, so, so much :/ 2. Plumbing issues - Our first night, we were going for a stroll after dinner, and saw a couple moving their belongings into one of the "cottages" if you will. We also saw them, on our way back, moving their items out. As we walked we overheard conversation of a toilet flooding. Relieved it wasn't our room, we walked back to our quiet cottage. After an awful night's sleep (see 3) we woke up to find out that ALL of the rooms had no working mail line...ie NO TOILETS, NO SHOWERS (showers were flooding with raw sewage as well), and all of this, ON THANKSGIVING. Long story made somewhat short - she couldn't afford "an arm & a leg" to pay an overtime worker to come quickly, so we were over an hour late to thanksgiving dinner with our group waiting to shower and such. THEY OFFERED NOTHING TO MAKE UP FOR THIS. "it's an old building", said owner in ratty men's basketball shorts and stained hoodie. 3. Rooms/beds - a) they dont clean anything. They say they do, but they do not. They bring extra towels & empty your trash. They don't even sweep the wood floors or dust. It was muddy and wet, and leaves were everywhere, we had to call (from our cell per no in-room phones) and request our room (including corner dust bunnies & the toilet & the sewage uproar in the shower for the previous evening and they showed up with a broom & said this is outside of their usual cleaning requirements. b) they put a sheet over a ratty down comforter & a sheet (not fitted) over the filthy mattress. Every time you move, sheets come off the mattress. I had to get up & decontaminate myself all night. Also, discomfort level was so high i brought my personal blanket from home to the misplaced looking IKEA fake leather couch the last night there. Much better. c) Electrical issues/Ghosts - They say ghosts...I say $&%^! - Clocks kept going off & changing times all trip, and dishwasher came on at 2am and woke us up. 5)WiFi - "FREE" yes. because there is no signal. You get the password, then log in, and my ipad (ATT) & by significant other's phone(Verizon) and my family member's laptop (Sprint air-card) all did not work on said "wireless network". 4. I'm not even going to go into detail about "Breakfast", because if you still stay here after you read this, you either will love "breakfast" or be dead. Those are the most important items. I wish I could give it a minus 1, but, so be it. The only semi-redeeming feature was Carly, the on sit manager. She was polite, professional and terribly embarrassed by our "Hotel Hell" experience. Dirtiest place we have ever stayed. Only after the Thanksgiving morning fiasco with no working plumbing and raw sewage backing up into the showers, were we informed that housekeeping only changes towels and empties trash during a stay over and rooms are not completely cleaned until after a guest leaves. It was wet and cold outside so all of the parking lot leaves and mud were tracked into our room constantly. When we went to the front desk to ask for a door mat of some sort, to protect THEIR wood floors, we were told "not to worry about it, it wasn't our problem"... Apparently the soon to be ex-boyfriend of the manager was not supposed to converse with the hotel guests or man the front desk. He felt the need to do both...big mistake Cobwebs the size of Texas, dirty windows and general filth abounds. We had no other options in town, so switching hotels was not possible. The "breakfast" is laughable. No juice, only lukewarm coffee and pre-packaged danish. Many other historic lodging choices in the vicinity. Manager was rude, rooms are small, air conditioning is not effective. The best part of our experience was a refund the manager extended our group of 25 due to a dispute about services. We relieved to depart from the miserable experience. read more

I really enjoyed your inn . It was cute, clean and you have a great staff! They are very customer focused and really care- very genuine. I look forward to staying in the cottage again soon. My only suggestions are providing dish soap for the kitchen and paper towels. The coffee served for breakfast was delicious. Please consider adding just a bit more variety. The only reason I gave them one star is that there's no half star . $170 and the tv didnt work ( the remote didnt even go with the television ) there was a strobe light show going on with the overhead lights ( short maybe ? ) and the wallpaper was curling . Oh , and someone stole my helmet off my bike from in front of the hotel ( not their fualt I know , just kind of added to the ambiance , I guess ) boo. and when I asked nicely " can you look at our set ? it doesnt work ..." The lady said she would look at it and never did . Theyre understaffed , I get it , but c'mon I worked at hotels , doesnt take much time to screw in a lightbulb , better . read more

We stayed in Cottage 6 which had three queen beds, but no kitchenette, which was fine for us since we didn't plan to cook anything. The inside was furnished with modern and antique furniture and was very nicely decorated in an antique theme. The room was clean and well appointed, beds were very comfortable. We were here during Christmas time and the hotel lobby was decorated so nicely, we also enjoyed the complementary breakfast. The service was excellent and friendly. Cold drafty rooms in the cottages with gaps under the doors for cold air to come in. Only one small wall heater that can take about three hours to heat the room on a cold day. Window coverings are simple blinds that have huge gaps that allow a visible view into the room. Kitchen windows have no covering at all and is open to an adjacent residential lot. No handicap parking. There were ants in my room. The provided dishes were ok, but no utensils, pots or pans and the cups were 16oz disposable drink Cups. The site stated Internet access, but there was no Internet access to cottages. It took 10 minutes to get checked in because the desk clerk would answer the phone first before handling the customer in front of her. She could have put the calls on hold. Speaking of calls, there are no phones in the rooms. If you need anything you have to go to the office. If it is a rainy day it is inconvenient. It also took a long time to. Check out as she did not seem to know how to give me a check out closing bill. Friendly service but they have a lot to learn. read more
