When we arrived at the Gateway, electric power was out for the entire square, and with an estimated 12 hours until power returned, we opted not to stay here. However, we did view the room and the pool. Rooms are really nice, modern and clean. Pool area is a short walk away on the next block. Most impressive was the young hotel front desk clerk who was keeping it together in spite of a widespread power outage. ZOE! Awesome customer service and I personally witnessed her handle multiple complaints with grace. However, the square has a bit of an uncanny valley vibe which I'm sure was exacerbated by the lack of power (and people) - there was nobody around - so I don't think we would return? Like a... Disney, manufactured, Pleasantville feel? Just a lil off. read more

Looks can be deceiving, and the Gateway Hotel is a perfect example. It looks modern and well-kept from the outside--but once you're inside, the problems start fast. I didn't sleep for two nights. The halls and even the rooms reeked of weed, and management clearly doesn't care or can't control it. If you're hoping for a peaceful night or traveling with kids, forget it. The blinds? Useless. They barely block any light, so don't expect to sleep in. And if you're hoping for a nice view to make up for it, prepare to stare at a gas station. This place is a loud, smelly disappointment. Now I get why this area keeps going bankrupt. There's zero pride in service or hospitality here. Plenty of better places nearby--don't waste your time or money here. read more

The Gateway Hotel - The hotel to avoid. - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Copperopolis, California

Stayed here recently and it's a mostly nice, new hotel but not without some issues. The Good: The beds are soft and fluffy. There are robes, nice towels, a mini fridge, nice showers, and in room coffee. The pool area is resort like, clean, and well appointed. There is ample parking, electric car charging, three restaurants across the street, a gas station and convenience store on the corner, and it's all pretty convienently located to neighboring towns and sights. The Bad: Upon check in our room had not been cleaned properly. There was urine on the toilet seat and hair on the bedsheets. We had to request for it to be cleaned again. You have to request housekeeping every day if you wish to have the trash emptied or anything replaced. This seems to be a common hotel trend now and I really wish it wasn't. A couple employees were helpful but the staff seems not very well versed in hospitality overall. There was no safe in the room so I had to carry my valuables with me (laptop, jewelry, etc) in a backpack if I went anywhere. The room had a trendy barn door for the bathroom which looks nice but there is no privacy due to the giant gaps on either side of the door when you close it. Make sure you are very comfortable with whomever you're sharing a room with. The pool was not heated. It is absolutely ice cold and unless it's over 100 degrees outside it's extremely uncomfortable to get into the water. On a similar note, the hot tub was merely warm, not hot. On Monday there was no pool attendant and the bathrooms were locked so I asked the front desk twice to send someone to unlock them and they never did. We were there for about 4 hours and I kept having to walk back and forth to the hotel lobby... which brings me to... The Weird: The hotel pool is located across the street and on the corner. You can get there from the back parking lot though so at least you're not parading over in front of restaurants. The pool attendant on the weekends had a basket of towels to hand out but told us we needed to take them to our room when we were done because - "I don't know. We used to have a bag but we don't anymore." I would suggest getting a bin of some sort that housekeeping can empty once a day. There was a door in our room that we thought was a closet, but when we opened it there were no shelves and no rack to hang clothing or anything else. Just an empty room about the size of an average adult. I decided this must be a portal to another dimension. The location reminds me of a theme park in that it's all quite new, clean and manufactured looking. An ice cream shop, restaurants, a barber and a park like area in the middle with games, etc.... but it's also kind of in the middle of nowhere so it all seems really out of place with it's surroundings. Because of that, I felt like it would be a terrific setting for a horror novel. LOL... Anyway, you certainly could do worse but I can't see staying here again tbh. read more

Stayed for 10 days recently from Oregon on a rough business trip. From the time we checked in to the time we checked out, we were given superior customer service. All of our needs were addressed and met without hesitation. We'd like to personally thank Geniva, Bre, Elizabeth, and Melody. The rooms are cute, clean, and very comfortable. Loved the beds and pillows after a long day's worth of work. Lemon water and Coffee were available everyday. You can check out a Fire stick to watch if the local channels aren't suiting your tastes in TV. Beautiful pool area too! Highly recommend & be back soon! read more

Modern day, meets 1800s gold rush. The staff was friendly and helpful. Check in and check out was very easy. The room was clean and I enjoyed the Decor. They provide robes and an umbrella for you to use. You can purchase as a souvenir if you'd like. I thought that was a nice touch. The bed was a little soft for my liking but the bedding was cozy. They have the big fluffy pillows, so if you'd like a flat pillow I'd recommend bringing it from home. I would definitely stay again. read more

We had our daughter and son-in-law stay when they came to visit. The hotel is cute with nice decor. We had positive interaction at check in. However, for the price, the room was really small. The pool is in a strange place. Our daughter didn't think it was affiliated with the hotel. We also did not receive a receipt or email which we said we would. We have more family coming to visit soon. We would love for them to stay there because the location is so convenient and to support local businesses, but just too expense for a couple rooms for a week, I am very sorry to say. read more

This is a lovely, new hotel right in the town square of Copperopolis. Beautifully decorated with a very nice new pool area. This would be a 5 star review if it weren't for the horrific customer service. We checked in on Thursday to a very empty hotel and were given a room that has to be amongst the worst in the hotel. The room was so tiny that it barely fit the queen sized bed. The bathroom was cramped with no room on the vanity for any toiletries. A lot of the rooms have access to outdoor space but this one did not making it feel very claustrophobic. Not sure why they wouldn't provide a better room when the hotel is not full to make for a good customer experience. When we asked, we got arguments and a bad attitude with no solution. The young women at the front desk were condescending and exceedingly unhelpful. When asking for a pool key, I was told that I could have one but I better not lose the key. Seeing as the pool is part of the hotel amenities that you are paying for, that attitude is uncalled for. They also argued that this hotel does not work with Expedia when that is in fact where we booked. They have an attendant at the pool that provides the towels but then does not want them back. He told us to take them back to the hotel which we did. The front desk clerk then told us to take the dirty towels back to our room. WTF? We said no and left them with her. You have to request housekeeping which we did. The substandard job that the housekeeping staff did was not acceptable. They did not wipe down the bathroom or empty the trash. They provided clean towels and made up the bed and that was the end of it. Hopefully if you stay here, you like dogs as there were 3 unleashed dogs roaming about the lobby barking at people and generally making a nuisance of themselves. Personally I am a dog lover with 3 dogs of my own and I found this totally unacceptable. They were allowed to bark late into the evening and then were back out barking and chasing each other around by 6am the following morning. Very annoying as the walls in this hotel are paper thin and you can hear everything. Our room was on the first floor therefore we were awakened way too early for a Sunday morning. Be aware that there is no bar or restaurant of any kind in the hotel. They do put out complimentary coffee in the lobby and there are several restaurants in the town square. I love Copperopolis and the surrounding area and this hotel could be so much better. Train your staff in customer service so that they know how to make guests feel welcome and want to come back. read more

The previous reviews of this hotel are from people that need to RELAX and not be such a 'Karen' about little things! I have stayed in MANY hotels and this place is in my top 5 of all time. From the moment I called to make a reservation, to check in (which included the most beautiful, calm and loving lab dog I've ever seen and gave us kisses) to answering questions and giving us a pool key. Yes....the pool is not quite on site, but it is a 3 minute walk (nothing to complain about) and it absolutely beautiful, clean and has an amazing view. The bed was like a cloud and I could have lived in it! The TV had ample stations, pulled out and was adjustable. The shower was a dream! I can't say enought about this place. Our room was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was a spur of the moment booking but they had toothbrushes, with tooth paste, for a reasonable price and the rooms had robes. There was complementary hot coco in the lobby. We left to star gaze around 2am and came back at 4am and felt pretty safe. We look forward to going back. read more

The staff was wonderful - Sailor, Marissa, etc. (they were very helpful and kind to both myself and my family). Unfortunately the pit fireplace wasn't working at the pool and the walls were "extremely " thin". My 12 year old asked what the noises were next door and I had to tell her it was related to her puberty class at school. Needless to say she put her pillow over her head.... For the price I would have also expected a few more amenities - bottled water, a chocolate on the pillow, etc. All in all not a bad experience but not a stellar one either. read more

Our weekend stay at The Gateway Hotel was amazing. Our family enjoyed multiple rooms and a weekend of fun at the pool, restaurants in the square and wine tasting. There are several unique shops and an ice cream shop too. The hotel and rooms have a very modern appeal and are beautifully decorated and very clean. The beds are amazing! We especially enjoyed the deluxe rooms with patios. The staff were all amazing and very attentive. The Gateway Hotel will definitely be our go to hotel in Copperopolis. I have to admit that I didn't have the highest expectations. As we rolled into Copperopolis in the late afternoon it was nearing dusk. The lights were on in the town square and there was a beautiful Christmas tree. I thought I was entering a Hallmark movie set! It was so charming. I kept thinking that it couldn't be as cute and perfect as it seemed, but the experience continued. Every person that we encounter was warm and welcoming. Baldies restaurant and McGriff's restaurants were awesome! I truly felt like I was on a movie set. I will definitely be going back! read more

Loved the location of this hotel. It was close to a couple restaurants and had a very cozy feel as it's settled smack dab in the town square. Prices were a bit high for what I've experienced elsewhere but I don't mind spending more for a unique experience. They had a shuttle that took us to Murpheys Ironstone Vineyard for a concert that was super convenient. They have a pool that happened to be down when we were there but looked amazing. If we ever want a getaway or are in the area for a concert this will now be our spot. read more

Comfortable bedding, huge rainfall showers, roomy room(was upgraded to a king)...only complaint was the window coverings were nice enough but a black out option would of been nice concerning morning light. The hotel room and decor are new and tidy but this review is regarding the lack of service. There is only one attendant on site; apparently there is only an assistant manager but she does not show up on Fridays or Saturdays per the attendant, Sammy. I goofed on double booking a reservation and asked if there was anything she could do to assist with reversing the error or since there is a room charged but not occupied, whether that money can be used as a credit on the premises. Her exact words were " I am only trained to do it this way" and hence we asked for a manager's help and Sammy supposedly texted her. In any case, there was no resolution as Sammy is ill equipped with whatever training she may have had and we asked for our key to the room. There was obvious communication issues and she proceeded to argue and raise her voice. Her inability to manage an out of scope scenario and use any critical thinking skills outside the box does not exist and hence her frustration was directed at paying patrons which is inexcusable. The facility is ok but the lack of basic customer service does not exist. we hope Sammy receives more training and matures in her demeanor. Good luck! read more

My family of 3 adults stayed here for 3 nights (Tue - Fri) after being basically trapped in our house in the valley for 3 days due to street flooding and experiencing a blackout with no electricity or heat for 5 days. We threw some things in a couple suitcases and fled east to higher ground to ride out the next storm that was coming. Check in was quick & easy and the staff was friendly & helpful. We were given room #119, a 1-bedroom king corner suite in the back. I'd reserved what I thought was a king suite with sofa bed but noticed right away there was an attractive sofa/lounge seat with no pull-out bed. My husband spoke with the front desk & was told housekeeping would bring a roll-a-way bed right away. A young lady brought the roll-a-way just minutes later, along with all the bedding. The roll-a-way's bedding was just as nice, soft and fluffy/cushy/comfy as the bedding on the king bed in the bedroom. The decor was modern, very attractive and there was plenty of room for 3 of us, even with the roll-a-way bed opened and made up the entire stay. We had 2 doors to outdoor areas - 1 facing the side street and 1 facing the back parking lot. Even being in the back corner of the hotel, we had a great view of the town square and trees in the park decorated with beautiful lights. At night it felt like having a cool little apartment on Main Street in Disneyland. While there, we got takeout from: Griff's (cheeseburgers for 1st dinner), Gold Dust Pizza (pepperoni pizza 2nd dinner) and Baldi's: (breakfast burritos 2 mornings and X-rated grilled cheese, chicken sandwich, chicken strips 3rd dinner). All restaurants are a 1-minute walk or less from the hotel. I have to add - everyone we came into contact with in town were friendly and welcoming from the hotel staff to the restaurant staff to the woman we met on Wednesday morning who was walking her dog. We greeted each other & my husband & I told her of the events which brought us there. She shared that she lived over one of the local shops. We talked of the storm which was supposed to hit later that night & she gestured toward her condo & said, "Well, I just live right there if you need anything." We had the pleasure of seeing her this morning again, as we were out on our patio having coffee and getting prepared to set out on our way home. We talked about the next storm that was supposed to be coming, she picked up her little dog so my daughter could greet her & give her a pat on the head. She was truly a gem & she added to our overall experience. Only one experience detracted from out stay which is no fault of the hotel and nothing they could control. We noticed a white truck "patrolling" the town and driving down each street in the small area several times a day, during day, evening & early morning hours, seemingly very interested in who we were and why we were sitting on the patio of our hotel room. The middle-aged man driving the truck (white, full size, extra cab, 4-wheel drive with studded rims) even honked at my husband on the first day when he was walking to Griff's to pick up our dinner. We must have seen him about 35 times cruising the neighborhood during our stay. Last night - our final evening, my husband & I were outside smoking a cigarette and the man drove slowly up, next to our patio, on the wrong side of the street and pretended to be looking at the suite next to us. The he creeped up and stopped in front of me, with his window down. I nodded at him in a "what?" motion & he said, "Who are you with?" In retrospect I should have asked him who he was and why he was questioning me but I answered, "What do you mean?". He asked, "Are you staying here at the hotel?" and I said, "Yes, in this room" - pointing directly behind me". "Oh", he said, "is there any leaking? I heard there was leaking here & it shut down." "No", I said. In fact, several times during our stay, he'd been parked in front of the hotel, was probably inside trying to gather information on "outsiders" or "making sure everything's ok" and obviously is a local and familiar with the town & it's people. As nosy as he is, I have no doubt that if the hotel had been leaking so badly it needed to be shut down, he'd have known in time at all. After his B.S. attempt at information gathering, he said, "Glad to hear. Take care" and moved along. I suggest the town remove this man from whatever bizarro duty he's been entrusted with & it would be a close to perfect place to stay. read more

Please book directly with them instead of travel websites. You can get a better price by calling them directly. The hotel was cute with great restaurants just a few hundred feet away.
