Sonia all the way! I always have trouble finding a stylist who listens to my needs as I'm a man who doesn't enjoy getting fades most times and many refuse to listen. Sonia however? She is trained by the hands of the hair styling god and knows how to individually style to your tastes! I have a mullet and sometimes want it shorter on the sides, sometimes not. Every time I've gotten a result I loved and she listened to every request. She's also a great conversationalist and brings the best vibes! Such a gem! My mobile barber had no-showed on me for the last time and I was in desperate need of a beard trim and fade. I googled and found Royal Cuts. The vibe is chill. The barbers could use more skill. As they are hit or miss with standard execution of simple taper and beard trim, ('all three do' a bit more than needed sometimes hoping you're too tipsy to notice the mistakes and still expect a tip, yes I've gotten fucked up with just a "sorry" and no discount). Also, they'll cancel your appointments and still expect you to pay. Nice place if you're in a hurry for a temporary barber though I guess. Also, no parking. read more

Cool space run by cool people. Was so happy to find Sonia again after Covid and the move from the old barbershop. Haircuts used to be a source of anxiety because it always felt like there was a chance I could walk out unhappy. Angie is the best! I have been lucky enough to have gotten to know her when she was cutting my hair in the pandemic and she would do house calls. I am so proud of her opening up her own woman owned business. The shop is classy and elegant inside and I always get a great haircut. If you need one, a beverage is always offered. I don't drink anymore but I do notice the bulleit Bourbon and think old me would have loved it. There's a big TV if you need to watch something while you are getting your haircut or waiting on the comfy couches for your turn. It's just blocks from Lake Merritt so it's nice to get a fresh cut and take a walk after and it's super close to BART. I haven't gotten a shave there but it looks like it's an option I might have to try. Her prices are beyond reasonable for the quality of her work. Love this place! read more

Angie has been cutting my hair for about six years, and she's the best. First at Slick and Dapper and now I'm so jazzed that she's opened her own shop -- a really welcoming and stylish place! Same great cuts, even better vibe. No more at-home haircuts for me! I've had my hair cut by Erik too (also formerly at S&D), and he also did a great job. FWIW I'm a queer woman with short hair, and always feel welcome in this space, these barbers have lots of queer customers. COVID safety: The barbers and customers stay masked, Angie and Erik are vaccinated, it's got very high ceilings, and the chairs are spaced well apart from each other. read more

I was excited to see a new barbershop/salon opening in the neighborhood and just walked in Friday afternoon for a haircut. I was seated in Sonia's chair and she she talked to me for at least 10 minutes to make sure we were on the same page about my cut, she really listens. I usually don't write reviews, but have to say that Sonia has a gift for cutting hair. She has a great eye, and I'm so happy to have found her. She has cut my (50 yr. old white dude with receding hair line), my 19 yr. old son's, and my wife's curly hair, and we've all been happy with the results. Royal Cuts is super clean and cozy! Very kind, fun people run the shop. I got an excellent hair cut. Royal Cuts is a really safe space for queer folks. They'll give you a short cut or long cut regardless of your gender identity :) Lots of street parking and close to BART. I found it really convenient to make my appointment online and got lots of reminders. Shoutout to Sonia who has been cutting my hair for years! Royal Cuts is a bit more expensive than some other barber shops, but completely worth it. A great place for people of all ages, too. read more

Such a great spot! The stylist was so accommodating. She didn't make me feel silly that I messed up my hair (the whole reason I was there) and she made me an amazing drink. My haircut went longer than They were supposed to be open. She was so sweet I had no idea she stayed overtime to finish my hair She deserved the biggest tip but due to my finances I couldn't give it. Tried this place on a whim and ended up getting an amazing beard trim. Have been going regularly for beard trims and haircuts ever since. I found Angela about 2 years ago at the start of the pandemic and haven't looked back since. She does a great job on my (sadly) thinning hair and is fun to chat with. Her new salon is beautiful and more importantly, easy to find and park near. I've brought my 4 year old to Angela as well. He's typically very hard to cut but he loved Angela.
