A family member is a local and had heard good things about the Royal India, but hadn't tried it before. They had dine in options, and had processes in place to accommodate the COVID guidelines. Wonderful new restaurant. We went early evening on Thursday. The restaurant was clean and quiet and the service was impeccable! We started with a couple of Indian beers and Keema. Followed up with the Royal India Special dinner and the Lamb and Shrimp Curry Dinner. Everything was fresh and delicious. The portions were very generous and we took an abundance of leftovers home. From the naan to the beef vindaloo I ordered I couldn't get enough of it. It's kinda embarrassing but it was so good I ended up with a wet spot on the middle of my pants. I like the heat index and think a 4 gives you a true spicy indian experience.The ambiance however needs a big kick in the butt to make this a place to dine-in instead of take out. Suggestions: 1. Cut the lights in the overhead fans. You've got enough light from other sources, The overhead brightness felt like eating on a sound stage. 2. Put a round table in that BIG empty space on the floor. it gives unflattering views into the kitchen. It would make the place feel more intimate and give you a great option for a bigger party (add a large lazy Susan to that table too). 3. FIX all the high back booths. Everyone we saw in them couldn't help but push back on them which is a terrible experience for the diner on the other side. It's like being on a plane and someone kicking your seat. We really like Royal India. The food is really good (just one notch slightly below another nearby Indian restaurant) and the atmosphere is really nice. The buffet is terrific and their onion chutney is a fantastic condiment to many of the buffet selections. We've been there for the buffet, but also for dinner. I places an order for delivery the food came in 39 minutes and she was nice. But when I opened my order they messed up on the order. I was vacationing for a night in Reno and came to Royal India because there are no Indian food options where I live. I was pretty excited because I hadn't had Indian food in about two years. We got there right when it opened and were the only customers inside. We were greeted, if you could call it that, by a young waiter wearing AirPods. He barely looked at us and didn't smile. Just sort of stared and said the word "two" then turned away to grab menus. He sat us down and then it took about 10 minutes for him to come back to take our order. I think it would've taken longer but my husband stood up to go get something out of the car and the waiter saw him and was sort of forced to come over to us. While we were waiting for our food, another couple came in and got seated. About 15 minutes later I noticed that they got up and left because the waiter never came to them. I could understand if they were really busy, but they weren't. He asked us how spicy we wanted our curries and we said spicy and very spicy. Neither curries we received were the least bit spicy. When I flagged down the waiter to ask for a box, I made sure to also ask for the check otherwise I fear we would've had to wait another 10+ minutes for him to return. We had a great dinner experience here. Partner ordered the butter chicken, which was utterly fantastic. I got lamb and mushroom. The lamb was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. We also got two plain naans which were fresh, hit, and just the right amount of crunchy and chewy. They were also very large - we probably only needed one to split! I first became familiar with this new spot while dropping off a UPS package. The aromas emanating front the restaurant drew me in like a cobra to a flute!!! LOL. A couple of weeks later we stopped in to sample the menu. From the second we walked in we were impressed with how clean everything was. Service was excellent and the owner is charming. BEST spinach saag ever! They even had tikka masala chicken inside of it. Although they didn't have chicken tikka masala itself as a dish, which is a bummer. Garlic naan was very fresh and tasty. Complimentary drinks and naan with the $10 buffet, an excellent value. A nice variety of dishes, the vindaloo was actually spicy (yay) and the chicken curry was very mild for the less adventurous eaters. They had 2 soups, a sweet warm carrot dish my boyfriend loved, channa masala, salad, chutneys, vegetable biryani, vegetable pakora, paneer curries, goat curry, etc. A special treat of mango ice cream that's unique and tasty, along with the rice pudding dessert. Stopped here for lunch on a whim while visiting Reno from the Sacramento area. My friend and I were glad we did so and would happily return any time! Every dish was packed with flavor, including the Chili Chicken and the Curry Fish. Lots of unusually (and spicy!) flavored naan rounded out the meal.
