Our first time to the Acadia National Park and after our fair share of lobsters and seafood at other restaurants this Indian food was a welcome change and we loved this restaurant. This was a huge disappointment. The restaurant was properly staffed, but the staff was inattentive, even for bringing water. We got the chicken tikka, which was unseasoned and overcooked. The other dishes were mediocre. We probably should have turned around when we walked in. It looked disheveled and smelt musty. Quite disappointed. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was nothing close to chicken tikka. It was more a a chunky tomato sauce like an American chop suey with extra cilantro. We get Indian all the time and it was nothing like the creamy, spicy dish we know and love. What a disappointment of a restaurant! I recently visited Bar Harbor and though one doesn't typically try Indian cuisine while visiting Maine, we decided to give it a shot since it seemed to be a popular location. We started our meal with samosas, which arrived terribly cold in the middle! My friend makes much better at home samosas than these! The service was not up to par compared with other local restaurants, we had to ask for water refills, and they would not place plates at the table (they were handed to us for us to place). Additionally, the naan took a long time to come and came about 10 minutes AFTER receiving our main entrees, and unfortunately came out very burnt. My friends and I were thoroughly disappointed - the only thing that was up to par were mango lassis and the lamb. If you have never tried Indian food, please DO NOT come here - you will get such a bad impression or taste in your mouth that will inadvertently steer you away from the usually delicious cuisine. read more

I love Indian food and was thrilled to have one in this part of Maine. I was very disappointed. The chicken tandoori looked delicious but it was extremely dry. I didn't dislike it; it was just OK. The naan bread was extra at $2.95 per serving (about) with no yogurt dip. Overall, I thought it was pricey for fair-tasting chicken with no bread and no veggies. read more

My family and I recently went to this restaurant and we enjoyed the food there, definitely try their momo and mango lassi. Prices are a little expensive for curries but for that area, I think it's comparable to other restaurants' prices. If you want VERY authentic indian food, don't go here but you should have an open mind and at least give this place a try. There is no decent indian restaurant in Maine besides in Portland and happy to see that they opened one in Bar Harbor. read more

I got the garlic naan, momo, butter chicken, and mango lassi. It was all very good. Momo was new to me and I'd happily order it again. It's a Nepalese specialty, nice meaty dumpling. Finally had a chance to give Royal Indian a try and we had the Saag Mushroom & Chicken Korma along with some papadum. Both dishes were excellent and the ingredients were obviously top notch and fresh. The service was also polite and speedy, so it was a great first experience. Went to Indian restaurant when we visited Maine. After 15 min, he came and took the order. He served us after a long wait. Restaurant was not at all crowded. Inside there were no people at all. Outside including us only three families were sitting. We got frustrated and thought of leaving. They used to say, food is coming in 5 min. But it never came. Finally they served after 45 min of ordering. We were so dissatisfied after tasting the food. Its not at all authentic. Ordered chicken 65 and received kfc chicken nuggets. Instead of butter chicken, we were given chicken curry. Naan was not made fresh. It was hard and stretchy. Fish curry was sweet. For $75 there is yummy food every where else but not this restaurant. Don't waste your money. Had horrible experience. Poor service and tasteless food. Not at all authentic. I won't recommend this place at all. read more

We were on vacation as a family in beautiful Acadia National park on 4th of July weekend. One evening we decided ( I & my husband) to go for an Indian food. There was one Indian restaurant in town called Royal Indian. You would hope one might know what is customer service ? I was standing in a line to be seated, a person who should be catering his guest instead he caters a person who completely ignored standing line & cuts off in front of everyone. Instead of redirecting this person to get in the line. He takes her orders for carry out then 2 more orders over the phone. Without an apology he asked me how many ppl would be dining? I told him 2, my husband was parking a car so he was on his way. This idiot tells me he cannot give me table until I have 2nd person w me & moves on to other ppl. I was furious as to how rude this idiot was. I told this idiot how poorly he has handled everything & chose not to dine at this place. By the way, these are Nepalese people who runs this restaurant as Indian. Indians don't have Mo Mo/dumplings as dish or menu. Anyway I thought My review might help someone & save agony & embarrassment . read more

This was the best Indian food my husband and I have ever had. We went there twice during a week long stay to Bar Harbor and the food and the service were outstanding. The biryani and naan portions were very very generous and both were delicious. The other entrees we had such as one of the house specials, which was paneer in a korma sauce, was of normal portion size. That particular dish was one of the best things I have ever eaten. The samosas were perfect and again the best I've ever had. I think the man who took our order and brought our food was also the owner. He was kind, accommodating, and seemed to genuinely care if you enjoyed your meal. If we ever return to Bar Harbor it is the first place we will eat and I cannot recommend it highly enough! read more

This was one of the worst places on earth to get Indian food. Let's start with the appetizers. Our veg pakora was missing, so we got charged for having nothing. The outer layering of the momos were very thick, you can't enjoy momos like that. We ordered the chicken tikka gravy and got the dry version. To add to it, the chicken was overly spiced and you could literally taste the raw spices. The butter chicken had a similar flavor. The paneer shahi was decent. The garlic naan was rubbery around the sides, we threw away almost a large chunk of it. The chicken roast was just fried chicken- what were thinking? Now coming to our biggest nightmare - the Biriyani. The worst Biriyani we ever tasted, overly spiced, no flavors of a traditional Biriyani. We took few spoons and trashed the rest. This was the worst experience in terms of food specially when we had such good luck with food there. It's a disgrace to Indian cuisine and should immediately start looking at what they are doing with their food. This is a wrong representation of Indian food and Indian culture. read more

Y'all this was the CRAZIEST DINING EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD. Caveat- we came on Labor Day weekend which I'm sure was incredibly busy and everyone seemed overwhelmed. And the staff seemed nice, no rudeness. That being said- WOW. I came with 2 other people and ordered a standard meal with apps. That's the only part of the meal that went right. We then proceeded to wait OVER 45 min for ANY food to be brought out including apps. At one point, there were 11 tables and only one had food. We then only got 1 of our two apps- the samosa which was COLD INSIDE!! Next, our meal came which was just super basic and not the best Indian but just average, clumpy rice. Our second app finally came AFTER the main meal- the chicken 65 which was also completely frozen. When we told the waiter, he put his finger in it and agreed lol and then just said he would take it off the bill - didn't offer to bring us another or give us something else free so it was as if we hadn't ever ordered it. We also ordered 2 mango lassi which never arrived. When we tried to pay the bill, they actually hadn't taken the chicken 65 off like they promised. Literally NUTS. maybe we Came on a bad weekend but It was not an optimal experience. read more
