We have catered few times from Royal Indian Cuisine but this time decided to dine for dinner! Got seated immediately and a nice Nepali waitress welcomed us! The vibe is nothing fancy just a simple dine in Desi restaurant with Indian music on the background. Our waitress served us some masala chai and Alu Tikki on the house. ( We figured this later when the bill came. Thank you it was a nice surprise.) Since it's a Nepali owned restaurant we asked them if they had Momo and they did! So we got the chicken steam Momo with Keema Naan and Chicken Hakka Noodles. The masala and spice was less with simple flavors like any Nepali household. It was like home cooked flavors. The food was fresh and came hot. I loved the noodles and naan. The Mo:Mo was okay, like any other Nepali restaurant they were frozen and steamed later! But the chutney did the magic for Mo:Mo. We got some extra chutney for to go! Would love to come back and try some curry and Naan items. If you like Indian food with minimal spice and solid flavors, give this place a try! Only rating it one less star because I feel like the portion of meat to sauce could be better. Prices decent but wish the portion had more meat. But overall great experience with friendly service. One of the BEST Indian spots I've been to. I loved the mixed grill for two. Honestly I think three people could eat that and be satisfied. I went with a friend and we had enough leftovers for us both to eat them for dinner the next day and it was STILL delicious! We usually like spicy food but sometimes Indian food can have a different level of spice. We went with mild and didn't feel it was spicy at all. Next time we will try medium and let y'all know how it is. Mysore Cheese Masala Dosa was so BIG. It was def big enough for two people. The only thing is if you order this you shouldn't order anything else. It is so big and it's best eaten fresh with the cheese just melted and not reheated later. Food is phenomenal. We had a spread of plain Dosa - (huge and snappy!) and three vegetarian entrees mildly spiced. Went for the lunch buffet today, late after noon. It was a busy crowd of folks. The buffet is small but provides some decent variety 3 chicken dishes and and a lamb dish, all of which I wasn't able to eat. We were seated after a few minutes by the buffet. The better dishes that I could eat were: veggie jalfraize, bindi masala and the dal makhani. I told my husband we should take our moms out for lunch as an early mothers day treat. So we did and luckily both our mothers are totally into Indian food. Royal Indian Cuisine has some solid yelp star power, plus we've never been before so why not right? They have a pretty good assortment of buffet items. Tandoori chicken, masala dishes, vindaloo items, two types of basmati rice, sweet brown balls, etc. Table towards the wall has the plates and some sort of chopped salad that I have never ever touched in my life. But I guess it's for the salad eaters. Theres also green sauce, yogurt and chutney which is an accompaniment. This is how people know you're all about Indian food. All the dishes was actually really good. And yes, even the veggie ones. If you're wondering if I touched the salad, the answer is No. I wouldn't be caught dead eating a salad in an Indian restaurant. Service was really good. Staff was super friendly, naan bread came out with almost no wait and our waters were automatically kept full. I would definitely eat here again. They were very kind to us, and brought us a delicious appetizer for the table to split, as well as a taste of Kulfi for us to share. I used to like this place few years ago, but now I go there only if I'm not in a mood to drive and crave some Indian buffet. I've been to this place like a dozen of times if not more. Always for lunch buffet. Some visits are better than others, sometimes the dishes at the buffet station are flavorful, but other times just meh. I like their fresh naan that they bring to the table, one of the best comparing to other places. That is the good here. The service is terrible, they always seem to be bored, never a smile, never a nice word. They act like machines, not like human being. And very, very slow. I'm new to the Indian food scene, and wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. Being that most of my coworkers are Indian, I thought it was time to give it a try since most of what they eat for lunch looks so good. I came here with my friend to show me what is what, and to explain what it is I'm eating, and how to eat it. If I had gone alone, I would have been lost as all get out. Fortunately, this place has a buffet, so I was able to sample a little bit of everything. Walking in, the place was reasonably busy on a Saturday afternoon. A nice mix of people eating and enjoying themselves. We sat down, got our water and silverware, and wandered up to the buffet. The first thing I noticed was a nice selection of food. We started with the appetizers, along with some hot and sour soup. The soup was great, and wasn't overly spicy. It was enough to cleanse my palate and awaken my taste buds. After sampling that, we worked our way through the buffet. The dishes here were on point, and I loved how everything was cooked. Normally, I don't care for Okra, but the Okra here is cooked in a way that I actually enjoy it! Normally, when I have had Okra, even if it's fried, it comes out slimy and chewy. Not here. I think that, however they end up cooking it, it actually makes the Okra edible and good. I wish I would have known this years ago. Also, the fried rice here is amazing. It looks like Chinese fried rice, but is made with totally different spices. Specifically, I think Saffron. It had an amazing taste and complemented what I was eating. Even alone, the rice was good. I also enjoyed the cottage cheese and spinach dish as well. Very very tasty and filling! I loved coming here because I got to try a nice variety of food without feeling weighed down or full to soon. I also like that I could sample a bunch of stuff and see how it fell on my palate. Also, food here was fresh! Sometimes buffet's can be left to die in the corner of a restaurant, but not here. It was constantly being tended to, and I liked that. Plus, it's a really reasonable price to eat here. I forgot how much we paid, but considering how much food we ate, it was a steal. There was one dish I tried and it was ok, but snagged some later after they had just put the fresh dish in, and it was amazing- tasted so much better hot and fresh. I read some reviews saying the buffet was small. I saw some reviews saying the buffet was small, but the size of the buffet seemed average to me. We weren't really greeted when we came in and whoever sat us was very aloof and cold. No comments no thank you for coming nothing like that. When the food came out we didn't see anybody again until we were sitting and waiting to leave. The food was very bland and the chicken was well overcooked. There was no spice at all and there was no flavor. The chicken tikka masala basically tasted like creamy tomato soup with dry chicken and palek paneer taste a little off. No flavors of garam masala or Curry or cumin or anything. The naan was okay, but to pay $40 for our lunch into truly not enjoy it, was very disappointing. I've been meaning to try more of the menu but I always alternate between my favorites-- butter chicken or chicken korma-- they are both such delicious dishes. The garlic naan was the best naan I've ever had and the butter chicken was only a little dry, but not much at all noticeable when eaten with everything else. We had lunch at Royal Indian Cuisine last week. The atmosphere, decor, and music playing all put you in mind of India, which is how an Indian restaurant should be. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant was very clean and well kept. This is one of the most important factors for me when I'm dining in a restaurant; the staff and restaurant must be clean. Now, onto the food. They were not serving their signature buffet luncheon, and I'm sure this is due to Covid, so I could not complain. We ordered Vegetable Samosas, Half Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Korma, and Naan. The food was prepared quickly, and it arrived at our table hot, fresh, and nicely plated; the Tandoori Chicken had sliced onions and peppers around it. The Samosas were brought on a bed of shredded lettuce along with the sauces. The Tandoori Chicken arrived in a carved pewter bowl with a big spoon to scoop out the pieces of chicken, and the rice alongside was hot and fresh. The Tandoori Chicken was perfectly seasoned, and really tender; the meat fell off the bones. The Samosas were crispy on the outside and filled with a tasty filling of curry and potatoes and peas. The Chicken Korma was creamy and fragrantly spiced. The Naan was perfectly cooked; puffy, some black markings from the oven, and really tender on the inside! The rice was hot, tender, and not stuck together. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and our waitress was super nice and friendly. Royal Indian Cuisine hit all of the right buttons for me; beautiful atmosphere, clean restaurant and wait staff, and most of all DELICIOUSLY PREPARED FOOD! This is my second time here...I love this place! First of, you walk in and it's a stark difference from Ashoka-there are women working there-in fact, I heard it's women run! I'm all about that...impressive. The place's very simple decor is nothing like its delicious menu choices. I decided on the navrattan korma and I'm glad I did. I got it medium spice which was just the perfect punch for me...I also got a mango lassi. The navrattan korma was a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, veges it comes with a nice portion of rice and DELICIOUS NAAN bread....I love this naan bread! I mean I really loved this naan bread...it's perfectly crispy and stretchy and tasty! The mango lassi was again another nice surprise...I didn't think I'd love it, but I did! Definitely not one of the better indian places in the area. Dont know where ti gegin, the papad was kinda non cridpy. The chutneys that come with the papad were literally water and worst of all in like 20mins while eating papad, they came and said you are done right, and we saw them take it from our table and put it on someone else's table. For dinner, the naan bread are much thicker than most indian restaurants. The curries are decent nothin extra ordinary. More color than spice in my opinion. This is my favorite Indian place in Michigan! This is the only place that serves you delicious and fluffy Naan, AND rice with your entree. Other places make you choose one or the other, and I always like having both. My hubs ordered the chicken tikka masala, while I ordered the chicken korma. We both hands down loved the chicken korma. We were looking for some Indian food that opened late and happened to stumble upon Royal as we were on the quest for some good Indian food. Boy, I am glad we found Royal! From the exterior, it looks like a normal mom and pop restaurant and same with the inside decor. But boy, I had a feeling that the place was going to be good when I saw them bring our the Tri cup holder of condiments. We ordered four dishes and everything came out super hot and tasty! I am not qualified to tell you if the food was authentic, but by the look of the crowd (mainly south Asians) it prob was pretty authentic. We were greeted with complimentary papadums (at least I think it was) and the service was pretty good. She was able to recommend stuff for our table and I was happy she helped us. Very unassuming on the outside, but if ever the adage don't judge a book bu it's cover were to apply this would be it. Hands down the best Indian food in metro Detroit.
