A staple in the community for such a long time, Ashoka is one of the best when it comes to delicious food, incredible service, amazing buffet options and more. Can't speak highly enough of the food, especially when it's fresh out of the kitchen. The restaurant is relatively big too, so don't expect too long of a wait if you and your family are coming for a good meal!

I've been here so many times. Best Indian restaurant in all of michigan. I haven't tried some in Detroit but among the ones in Troy, RO, Rochester, it's unbeatable in high quality food. I've had the chole bathura, lamb biriyani, and the classic butter chicken with naan combo. I'm sure all the other items are top notch as well so if you're a fan of authentic Indian food this is the place to go. Staff can be blunt but they are overall friendly. Parking is right next to the store. The place can get super busy during peak dinner times like 6-8 ish whenever I go so plan accordingly.

Came here with a group and it was a good time! It has a large dining area with plenty of seating for parties of all sizes. The menu is extensive, covering classic indian dishes, along with some indo-chinese influences . We got the assorted appetizer (samosa and other deep fried veggies), naan, butter chicken (of course..), vegetarian haka noodles, chicken 65, malai kofta, and baigan bartha. The food took a while to come out (~20-30 minutes), but all the dishes came out relatively close to one another. All of them were soo tasty! You can adjust the level of spice too depending on your group, just let the server know. My favorites included the butter chicken and malai kofta since the flavors of the sauces mixed with the naan and plain rice were so good. The not so memorable dishes included the assorted appetizer (tasted mainly like oil, the samosa was good), and the haka noodles (a bit lacking in flavor). I would definitely come back for their more traditional indian dishes!

The four of us put down our Hamiltons and enjoyed our introduction to this restaurant's lunch buffet. I can safely say that we all enjoyed it immensely and that it totally exceeded our expectations. It's a great balance of price, quality, quantity and value that should satisfy anyone's Indian food craving. It's not a big buffet, being on the smaller side of what I've seen but what they have is excellent. There's plenty of entrees, sides and desserts and they change things up from day to day as evidenced by their use of sticky notes to denote what dish is in each pan. On the day we went there was a variety of vegetarian dishes along with 2 chicken and one lamb dish. I sampled about half the items and loved everything but the Bhaji which is a green bean dish that just fell flat for me until I mixed in a little Makhani sauce. Try that and thank me later. The restaurant is clean enough and the service was better than the average Indian place. I really liked this restaurant and I would go again tomorrow if I could. You really can't beat it for the money. It's a solid 4 stars. And A Little More Food For Thought: ** They bring out a complimentary piece of tandoori chicken for each person. Moist, tender and delicious. It's good. ** You will get a basket of warm Naan with your meal, for free. ** They have Indian beer here for the imported beer enthusiast. Taj Mahal beer, 20 ounces, is just $7.50. Get you one. ** My dining companions and myself most enjoyed: Ron C. - Halwa, a sweet minced carrot dessert. I was surprised he didn't just bring the pan back to the table. Aron B. - Madras Lamb Curry. He kinda went food-orgasmic on us there for a few minutes. Susan M. - Everything. A clean plater, 3X over. Myself - That Paneer Makhani was sublime. Who knew that cheese and tomato sauce could be so good?

Great food as always. Very solid spot if your looking for authentic Indian cuisine. Great Indian coffee and Masala Tea. The waiter is very experienced and efficient here. Always a go to for a full lunch and enough for dinner. A 20 well spent.

I've been here so many times for the past 15+ years and this place is generally bomb! This particular time we came here it was slammed...very busy on a random Tuesday night & lack of employees. The owner was hustling, as he usually is...but taking orders, cleaning tables, hosting people...he really was something else and we all appreciated him for it! Despite being very busy, food and service were relatively fast & delicious. We ordered the wrong cauliflower...this isn't as good as gobi Manchurian. Also tried the veggie rolls for the first time and those were good...What a pleasant mix of veggies and a delicious mix of spicy flavor. I had the dhal makhani and as always--excellent! The butter chicken got a thumbs up...always great! The veggie biryani and veggie fried rice were also two thumbs up. There's a reason we've been coming back here after all this time! And we'll be back again...

Service: if I was basing the review off of service it would be a one star. Because not only was it slow, it almost felt non existent. I came here with my parents and we would've ordered more if we could get a server to our table. It's not even that big of a place, but the servers hung out by the reception area and weren't even looking up. We had to wait a while for drinks, then wait another while to order. There are a ton of other Indian restaurants that are so much more attentive, even if it's crowded, which this place was not. Ambiance: feels like they tried to be upscale, unnecessary in my opinion. Just serve good food and make sure your servers are paying attention and that's more than enough. It's not a spot I would come back to.

Nicely decorated, looks newer. Ordered dosa, samosa, Gobi Manchurian, chick pea salad, dal tadka and dal makhani, butter chicken, navratina korma, and Chana masala. $117.56 The Samosa, butter chicken and chick pea salad are all good. The samosa is maybe a bit too heavy and doughy. The potato and peas are mashed inside. The cilantro chutney is good, spicy too. Butter chicken is tasty. The chick pea salad is just fresh and yummy. Dosa was okay, not loving the tomato or coconut chutneys so much. Sambar soup is good. The dal makhani and Chana was not for either of us. Makhani is super buttery and runny. The Chana has a very unexpected taste and look, the sauce it's cooked in is quite brown here. The dal tadka, korma and Gobi were just okay. Both lentils are super runny. The korma isn't too bad. Their version has tofu in it. Sauce is good. Not a lot of veggies to it. Gobi was crispy, but their chili sauce is not so good. My husband usually favors the Chana masala, but he wasn't fond of their version so much. Would skip the Chana, Gobi and the dal makhani and maybe even the dal tadka next time. Service here is good.

I'd like to take a minute and reflect on both times- the good and the not-so-good. First visit: Aug of 2025. The good: We felt very pleased with the service, we felt like our waiter and the meat guys (lol do they have a special name?) were very friendly and knowledgeable. The market was DELICIOUS. We both loved the salads, and most of the other items. I loved the little cheese breads they gave you at the start of the experience. The drinks were absolutely delicious- my husband got the bourbon drink and I got the Yellowbird. Our waiter asked us if we were celebrating anything right away, so we felt like they understood the importance of us having an enjoyable and pleasurable experience. They gave us a complimentary cheesecake for dessert with a gorgeous and thoughtful plate that said "Happt Anniversary." They truly helped us feel special and celebrated on our first wedding anniversary. The not-so-great: When we first had arrived, we did let the host know we had a reservation. We ended up having to wait a little bit until we were finally sat. Also, my husband felt like he was getting more over-done meat rather than medium rare. But, overall, we really enjoyed our dinner and clearly, since we decided to come back again for our 2nd wedding anniversary! Aug 2026: The good: The drinks were great again, the market was delicious again. The meat bringers (lol) were bringing around different items this time besides meat and OMG! The grilled pineapple was AMAZING!! And the cheese and honey was TO DIE FOR! Seriously the best parts of the meal was the market, the pineapple, the filet mignon, and the cheese and honey. The not-so-good: We arrived on time for our reservation, maybe 5 minutes early, and we had to stand around and wait in the crowded lobby for about 15 minutes. It was kind of a long time to wait around when you had a reservation, but not a huge deal. The filet mignon came around only twice, and the second time we had to try to ask someone if we could have more of it. That and the picanha are really the only good meats... Its just frustrating that the sausage, top sirloin, and chicken wings were coming around 10 times but the filet mignon rarely ever came around. The picanha probably came around only two times too. I definitely would not spend more money to get the most expensive all you can eat experience- considering you rarely get your preferred choice of meat. Also, the manager I believe came around and asked how everything was, and we told her it was great which it was, she then asked us if we wanted to see a certain meat. I told her actually yes- we want filet mignon we only got offered it once. She asked what temperature we wanted it and we told her medium rare please. And then she went over to the next table near us and just stood there chatting with them for literally like 30 minutes (they spoke the same language so they clearly either knew each other, or had some connections which is FINE, but then why ask us what we wanted...) I also want to speak on our server. He was young, I think his name was Tristan. He was nice, but not very friendly or welcoming and I had my water go unfilled for quite some time. I also asked him if he could grab that honey and cheese guy again (which I'm sure that's an annoying request) but he was just like "oh he'll be coming back around again." Like lol ok... He didn't ask us if we were celebrating anything (we were) until the very end of the meal after he asked us if we wanted the dessert menu. He said this "Would you like the dessert menu?" I hesitated because I did want the cheesecake but was super full, and that's when he said are you celebrating anything and I said yes it is our anniversary, and he said we get a free dessert. He came back with the dessert menu and I saw the cheesecake brûlée but I just wanted a plain cheesecake like I had the year prior. He told me they have one (I didn't see it on the menu- red flag) but I ordered one to go. Obviously when you dont get a dessert for there, you don't get the pretty happy anniversary plate, but I wasn't expecting to get slopped down a plastic bag with a tiny sliver of... you guessed it... brûlée cheesecake. I was disappointed but didn't say anything since it was free. Overall, I would recommend coming here, despite some minor challenges. However, it is not cheap, so I think when something is very costly, and people aren't 100% satisfied with either the quality/quantity/frequency of offerings, then it gets disappointing. Also- I wanted to mention weirdly my Yellowbird last year came with a gorgeous Aloe leaf as a garnish and this year my garnish was a curled lime skin and two black straws... lol so Idk what happened there. Maybe I didn't get the same drink! Who knows. We do plan on coming back for the next anniversary next August.

I asked if they had Birria tacos and the man behind the counter said they do, just not on the menu. I ordered the taco dinner with shredded beef, rice, beans and a glass of water. I got served chips and dip which was okay, but the salsa was a bit runny for my liking. The "hot" salsa was good, and wasn't overpowering. Eventually, my food came out and it was a huge portion! I was impressed with all three tacos, rice and beans. It was only $13 on the menu, so I was happy with how much food I was served. The beef was a little on the dry side but still fairly good. Rice and beans were decent, but the music was a bit on the louder side. I docked a star for the meat being a bit dry and louder music considering it wasn't really necessary. The man who rang me up was super nice and friendly and also went through the menu with me since I had a few questions before ordering. Overall, a decent meal for the price and I'd return in the future.
