Food and service were great but had to knock off a star for a roach in the restroom. They even threw in a few free extras like a mango kafir

I was delighted to find this place when I happened to be in Grosse Pointe Woods. The vegetable wrap was a fragrant marvel of blooming spice in naan bread. My raita had a little more kick than what I used to but still retained much of the typical yogurt-cucumber taste. My only complaint is the dining in experience. There were a couple of tables in the place so I ate there. I had to press to get plastic ware and a tiny napkin. I would have liked to have been offered water, since it was pretty obvious I was staying there. Still, these are minor quibbles given that the great majority come here for takeout. read more

I'm struggling to understand how whoever packed this into the container thought it was ok. If it wasn't so cold out tonight I'd run it back for a refund. $12.99 for a small dish of peas. This is their takeout location and it's my family's favorite location! We have compared over time, the dishes from here to other Indian cuisines and nothing tops this place! Absolutely everything from the butter chicken, tikka masala, veggie pakuras , to any of their naans, top TIER. The biryani tastes like my best friends mama made it too!! A much needed Indian spot in GP. It's a small place, mostly for carry-out orders. 4 tables and 10 dining seats. 4 chairs for carry out order waits. I find their wall sized menu by their register is so huge. Can't miss the menu here for sure. The chandelier looks so fancy and ornate for this small spot. Looks out of place a bit, but it works. Ordered a butter chicken, super spicy, chili chicken, medium spicy, Chana massala with chick peas, cauliflower, carrots, potatoes, mango lasssi and 1 garlic naan ($2.50). Their mango lassi is mostly yogurt, doesn't have enough mango flavor to it for me. Just the one small sip upset my stomach, lactose. Based on carry out orders, sounds like the food takes around 25 minutes or so. The Chana is with chickpeas, beans, zucchini, cilantro and cauliflower. It's spicy, much hotter than Thai medium for sure. It's tasty but the spice is almost too much for me. The butter chicken is tasty and just the right spice level too. The butter chicken is spicy, buttery and lovely. All of the food was really good. The butter chicken was hands down the best out of the three dishes. It would have been better to have some potatoes in my Chana as mentioned when I ordered it. The mango lassi needs more mango for sure and the garlic naan could use a bit more minced garlic on it, was a bit scant. The butter chicken was perfect just as it was. I have had a chance to try their food in the past . It was very good. However, it is hard to be able to get their food now because of their crappy customer service. I called in my order for a takeout on Saturday, March 9th. I arrived around 9:30pm when it was closed , but it clearly has the open light on. In addition, when you google the restaurant, it states it closes at 10pm. If they were going to close early why didn't they just tell me when I called? Why did they waste my time driving over there to an empty building? I could have order from somewhere else. Waste of time and gas money. On top of that, I was really hungry! If they have no respect for my time and gas money, I can just not go there anymore. read more

The most reliable Indian cuisine chain in Metro Detroit. Fast kitchen, and polite service! I really enjoy everything they have to offer. The Chicken Tikka Masala is wonderfully tomatoey and they definitely use real cream. Lots of chicken. The Chicken Vindaloo is the best I've ever had in Michigan. They can really bring the heat with this dish. (Sometimes its a bit heavy on the potato, but its welcome on my plate anyday.) Channa Masala, earthy and delicious. Lamb Dansak with lentils, savory and so, so tender. And the rice is real basmati made with cardamom pods and saffron. (Something you dont see that often these days.) The appetizers are great as well. The Singara/samosas are crisp and the mint/cilantro chutney green sauce is perfect to soak right into them. The real star of the show is the Onion Bhaji. Ive only ever seen it here, but imagine thinly sliced onions coiled together into a donut shape and deep fried. If youre an onion lover, you must try this. Same for the Onion naan. Their mango lassi is thick and creamy too! The only negatives I have is that while you can dine in, this location is mostly for take-out. Theres an complete absence of ambiance about the place. Frustratingly inconsistent. We've had carry out from here about a half dozen times are so over the past year. Up until the most recent experience, we've had too many times when the food was made too hot and spicy. It should be intuitive that if you tell a restaurant that you want the food prepared mild, that it's actually going to be mild and not still hot and spicy. We were finally given the secret password as it were by a friend of ours who told us to specify no spice at all. When we finally told them no spice, the food started to come out the way we intended it. Bizarre when you consider that when you order Indian food at just about any other restaurant mild is understood as mild. All of that aside, their product is a good one. The meats are usually tender and juicy, the rice is well prepared, and the naan bread is nice and fluffy just the way I like it. Before forewarned that you want to ensure you place your order with plenty of advance notice as the wait time can typically be upwards of 30 to 45 minutes. read more

Spice level very inconsistent. Ordered medium last night and it was so bland that my 6 year old wouldn't eat it because it wasn't spicy enough. Sometimes the medium is spicier than the xtra hot used to be. ** started this review three years ago and the same thing happened to us tonight . we ordered a medium plus with an emphasis on the plus . we got it (paneer tikki masala) and it had literally no spice at all, or at least any that he could taste, and I had had a little taste of the sauce, and it It was like eating SpaghettiOs and of course he wouldn't eat it. I'm gonna try to figure out how to replicate the spice without tainting it in someway that will also infuriate him. I wish there was like a way to log customers in the computer over there, as people who like spicy, and people who don't. Love love love this place otherwise. I got carry out from here after driving past them a few times. Overall, a good experience. Carry out was quick and efficient. The food wasn't as spicy as expected, but I imagine each restaurant is slightly different. Such a welcome edition to the neighborhood. Indian Food was the one ethnic cuisine lacking in this area. The Good: Tried a few dishes. The mango chicken dish I had stood out and highly recommend trying. Chicken vindalo was ok. Saag Paneer was very good if your looking for veg option. The naan and rice are solid as sides. For dessert try the Gulab Jamin very sweet and tasty The Bad: As they have just opened they are still working out some issues so advise to wait a month OR be patient and give them hour notice for order. We ordered an hour ahead of time as they are getting slammed with business as peak dinner rush. They made a mistake and left out my rice and a drink. Finally a good Indian take-out option in the area. As much as I'd love a proper sit-down Indian restaurant, at least we have a good kitchen to order from. They do have a few tables but it'll still come out to-go. Very large menu to choose from, started with veg and lamb samosas, fresh made garlic naan bread, and opted for your standard Chicken Tikka Masala which was great, creamy, sweet, just the right spice, and at 8/10 heat level still perfectly tolerable. Also got the Aloo Gobi (potatoes and cauliflower). All of it was made very well, the sauces made for excellent dipping of naan bread. Can't wait to try more. Can't speak to the other reviews of bland food, slow service. I cook Indian food myself , but just butter and saag chicken and have a sort of knowledge of how most Indian food is made. Tried making naan once and it was bad. Anyhow, instantly upon seeing the naan I ordered from this place I was like this doesn't look like it was made properly...It was like I made it and sure enough it was bad. The saag was yellow...I've never had yellow saag before?? Considering they have about 7 locations in the metro Detroit area, I'm guessing this is a heat and serve kind of place. read more

Very nice little place. The food is great! We tried the butter chicken (great for those who are not into spicy) and the chicken tikka masala (kinda similar with spice!). I ordered carry out on a Monday night, and decided to pick up vs. have it delivered. I've been wanting to try it since it opened and am happy to say, it's great and I will be back! When I arrived to pick up my order everything was neat and orderly, and the employees had masks on. They were only allowing 2 people inside at a time, which I thought was prudent. I ordered the butter chicken, onion bhaje, paneer Pakura, and cheese naan. The onion bhaje was absolutely outstanding, as was the cheese naan. I took a pic of one but my son and husband threw their food out before I could get a picture. The food was also oddly salty. It's all in the garbage now. Wow, this place is incredible. (And they offer delivery and pickup during covid!) Everything was extremely well spiced, not just spicy - it felt very balanced and fragrant. Their rice pudding especially is amazing - it's obviously different cultures but I'm half Syrian and it reminded me a lot of the rice pudding I had as a kid. Very floral, really smooth texture and not too thick, and a super generous portion. Once it's a little less hot out and our fridge is a little less overfilled, we're definitely planning to get a couple entrees to try more dishes :) read more

Nothing better than Indian food, I always end up having leftovers so sometimes I go back the next day for more naan or rice. Front staff is outstanding, friendly, kind, and all of the above. We have been craving Indian food, with so many of our local spots closed, we were excited to try a new place. As always, Yelp is our go to resource when we are wanting to try a new spot. NoorJahan had fantastic reviews and isn't too far from my house. We ordered a lunch carry out: Lamb Madras, Butter Chicken, Sag Paneer, and Naan. The aroma coming from the carry out made my mouth water, and we couldn't get back to my house fast enough. I'm a HUGE fan of lamb and this Lamb Madras was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. We also loved the flavor of the special sauce. The Butter Chicken was very good, but could have been a litte more tender. The sauce for this dish is always delicious. The Sag Paneer is my absolute favorite. It's really a simple dish, creamed spinach with cheese curds. If you haven't tried this dish, trust me, you are missing out. I think I could eat this on the daily. We also ordered two types of Naan...Yummy! All main entrees are served with Basmati Rice. We are staying on a low carb diet, but today was our "cheat" day! I guess you could say we needed a day filled with great food and awesome company! We will most certainly be back. read more

I am so happy that 1) Grosse Pointe now has an Indian restaurant! Hamtramck was previously the closest place to go from here and 2) it is very, very good! I have ordered from here three times - the pick up time given has ranged between 25 to 15 minutes. I have gotten the Vegetable Curry twice (medium) and it's terrific! They aren't scared to spice it up, either. My medium has a nice kick. The veggie samosas are great, I have enjoyed the Naan (my son thought they used too much garlic on the Garlic Naan, but it didn't bother me). The medium Veg biryani wasn't as good as the curry (a touch bland), but that was my first time trying that particular dish, so that could have just been me just experiencing this recipe for the first time (and I certainly didn't hate it). I will be going back again very soon - I'll try to try something different, but I'm already craving that curry again! read more

Someone else already said it, this place is inconsistent. I went back and forth between this and Madina. The last time we ate here we loved it. This time I had the WORST butter chicken I've ever had and most of the food was burnt. I likened the taste of the butter chicken sauce to baby food and as if on cue, my four- year-old who doesn't like seasoning, loved it. I'm kicking myself for not ordering Madina. I've had Indian food one time and hubby had eaten Indian a few times about 16 years ago, so we decided to give it a shot together. Not knowing much, we decided to go the "safe" route and order the Butter chicken and Tandoori chicken, with rice and garlic naan. I wish i had more to say other than- it was delicious! Everything was so flavorful and our carry out bag even smelled delicious. My kids even enjoyed the naan and bitter chicken (and kids don't eat anything except chicken nuggets). My only mistake was ordering mild spice. We will definitely order from here again (and a little spicier next time). read more

Went to grab food here when a friend mentioned she really likes indian food and was curious to check out the new local spot. I had never been to an indian restaurant before so I was curious to try. Upon entering and ordering we found out that there is no dine-in service, only carryout, which is not a big deal. We ordered and were told it would be about an hour till the food was ready so we decided to wait in the store. The employees were all very friendly and were diligently working hard to accommodate a very busy night for them. It was fun to watch them work and see the wheels turning as they figured out the best way to run their new business. I had the butter chicken which was a safe bet for me being a first timer . It was very good. She had the Lamb Saag which she enjoyed as well. I would definitely order from here again. I would recommend ordering ahead on the phone and going to pick up. We did carry-out here and the service was excellent. They said 30 minutes and it was ready when I arrived. We had naan, garlic naan, meat samosas, raita, chicken tikka biryani, and butter chicken. The quality of the food really stands out. If you have never tried Indian food before this would be a good place to start. The portion sizes are good and the butter chicken comes with rice. I would recommend putting the naan in the oven for a few minutes to crisp it up. We did not have a bad bite. I would probably try something more adventurous next time, and would not be afraid to go spicier. read more
