Well I was heading to a friend's house to watch the game and in a rush to get there. But wait. The group chat said we needed beer. Say no more, I got this. I pulled over and searched for places in the general vicinity. Joy popped up and I asked myself, "haven't I driven passed this place dozens of times?" Yep, that's the one. Shame on me for not coming here sooner. Especially since this is MY type of booze emporium. I was expecting more of a small, specialty wine shop. Yes, that's part of it. But wow, the selection of beer on hand was worth this review alone. It rivals the majority of all the major players in town. If I wasn't in a rush, I could've spent a good hour or two in the shop. To be honest, I don't even remember the beers I got. Both were local and went down easy. And all that to say, the Avs destroyed the Bolts 7-0 that night. Beyond the wine, they have an amazing liquor section with some of the most unique liquors -- many that I had only seen behind a bar before. They also had a decent selection of beers in the back! For the particular brand of tequila I was in for, however, the store only carried the Blanco (silver) one so no Reposado and/or Anejo. I, however, was able to walk away with its tequila-based coffee liqueur (Cantera Negra Cafe) which I had always wanted to try. The employees (pretty much all of them) were very professional and courteous for my shopping needs. The store is a good size. Very organized where things aren't cramped into the space. Very clean indeed. On Thursday and Saturday, they do tastings (4-7pm on Thursdays and 3-6pm on Saturdays); the designated tasting area is on the north end of the shop. You can park in the Whole Foods garage (there is a door to it inside the shop; this is convenient especially when the weather is bad with rain or show.) I don't come to this part of town very often but it's nice to know that a good liquor store with high-end feel exists right in the heart of Belmar shopping area.

I also really appreciate that they offer Colorado-specific wines, spirits, beers, and seltzers. And, if you need mixers, they've got those too and not just your classic, but some unique offerings like blood orange ginger beer. They rotate these out, too, which is nice for variety. They also occasionally offer free tastings, like on Thursdays between 4pm-6pm they offer wine tastings. These usually accompany their "wine of the month" which is on discount the entire month and then during the tasting, they occasionally offer an additional coupon. Pro tip: Check the back of your grocery store receipts for coupons to use for your entire purchase!

They've got your run of the mill domestics down solid and your local faves as well. Maybe not the ooberly small breweries around CO but the "major local" brew companies, if you get my drift. The store itself is a good size and organized in a neat way. SWS is fairly clean and taken care of unlike those random stinky liquor stores you run into or even frequent. I am 25 years old and upon presenting my valid ID I received from the DMV, I was told that it was a fake. The kid who refused to accept my ID was undoubtedly younger than I was and claimed he couldn't see the state seal on it. I have had my ID for over four years (since I was 21) I am now almost 26 and it expires in July so I have not yet gotten one of the updated IDs and it is a bit worn. It's interesting to me that some kid can deny my license which is the same exact one I've been successfully using with my background checks and through the state of Colorado to obtain my nursing license. I recommend that if you don't feel like being demeaned and unless you have an updated license, don't waste your time stopping into this liquor store.
