We are new to the area and have taken two of our pups here. Very helpful and kind. However, I'm going to share a story about one employee in particular who could use some SERIOUS training in bed side manners. our little chihuahua experienced random seizures at the age of 14. We knew it was time to say goodbye and as every pet own knows it's the hardest day of your life. We were taken into the room to have our final moments with our sweet baby girl when the door to the room SWINGS open. There stands a frizzy haired women named Rebecca. Rebecca informs us " this door needs to be kept open for ventilation". All we asked was for a moment of peace as we said our final goodbyes to our baby of 14 years. After telling Rebecca to leave us alone I closed the door again. I understand covid guidelines but when everyone is wearing a mask and all humans in the room are vaccinated quite frankly my dear I don't give a DAMN about your ventilation to a room WHERE MY DOG IS ABOUT TO DIE. If rebecca is reading this I hope you know you took a moment away from OUR LAST final moments with our baby along with causing more stress and unnecessary sadness and for that you should be ashamed. Sometimes sweetie reading the room and the situation might do you some good in life. I hope if you have a pet of your own and the day comes when you have to say goodbye that NOBODY takes away any final seconds you might get with them. Shame on you. TRISTA on the other hand was wonderful,patient, kind, empathetic, and just lovely during such a difficult time. Thank you trista and the doctor who made our babies final moments peaceful. read more

We brought my childhood dog of 15 years here to cross the Rainbow Bridge with dignity and compassion to end his suffering and this vet did not deliver, and he deserved better. After hours of waiting, he was treated poorly by the staff and my grieving family was treated even worse by the two vets. I fear the team does not know what they are doing, as they required 3 people to place a catheter, at which point the sedation he was given wore off. My mother was degraded on the phone after calling to check in on the status after our dog had been there for 2 hours already, and my father was dismissed, leaving our dog alone in a muzzle in his final moments. Our senior Shihpoo has received excellent care from Royal Oaks Veterinary Hospital. She has diabetes and issues with pancreatitis that have been very serious. Dr. Dwyer, Dr. G and the staff have taken excellent care of our fur baby. Everyone has taken time to listen to us, evaluate her condition and deliver excellent care and advice. This past August they actually saved her life and now she is thriving. Yes, sometimes we have had to wait in an evaluation room for a time, but there were emergencies that needed care first - and we are fine with this. Sugar has actually been one of those emergencies and I am grateful for the time they spent treating her. We are very appreciative of Royal Oaks and highly recommend their services. read more

We brought in our newly adopted GSD/Belgian mix. He was abandon and found and taken to Polk County Animal Control. Tahoe is extremely underweight and had many issues. Not knowing a lot about him, the Dr. G and his staff were incredible and patient, getting every bit of information we knew and answered every question and concern. I brought my Lexi here . Before the tech took her in , I made a simple joke . " Guess I won't be eating tonight " & we laughed . She wrote that joke down & the doctor short changed my baby's care . He gave me meds & instructions when to come back , but when I tried to make her next appointment, then is when they told me there was nothing they could do . I was so angry that they sent my baby home to die & didn't tell Us . By the time I got Lexi to Atlas Vet , she lived 5 months before she had to be put down . Do You know when Atlas received Lexis records , one of the technicians put on her notes the joke I told y'all about in the beginning. Indicating I might has an issue with payment. Something that was horrible to do as a human .Trying to make it difficult for me to get the care my baby needed. Shame on You !!!!! read more

This was my first visit with Royal Oaks my appointment was for 3 new puppy Chi only 13 weeks old, they left us waiting for 1/2 hour with no word on what was going on. I appreciate the fact that things come happen etc, however the correct thing to do is to let your patient know they did not I had to ask, was told the doctor had to leave but was on his way back, 15 minutes later still no doc no word I had to ask again. So, needless to say not a great 1st impression we left never being seen, and feeling as though we didn't matter. No happy at all, now I have to wait yet another week to be seen by another doctor. This was our first (and last) visit to Royal Oaks. When I called and made appointment, I specifically asked if we would have a face to face visit with the vet (Dr. Dwyer). Was told absolutely yes. However when we arrived 15 minutes prior to appointment time, there was a note on the door saying stay in your car and call..... I called and was told we had to wait in our car and would not be permitted in the exam room with our fur baby. I filled out required paper work. I tried to call back to say the paper work was completed, only to receive a busy signal for fifteen minutes! When they finally approached our vehicle to receive the completed paper work I told them we were promised a face to face visit with the vet. We were told no we had to wait in our car and they would come out and get our baby and the vet would talk to us after the exam. Being a new patient I had records with me and wanted to go over several items with the vet prior to the exam. I would like to add this is my service dog. I am handicapped and could not wait in a car in the hot sun. I was told, sorry this is our policy! I asked why I was not told this when I made the appointment and had specifically asked if this would be a "face to face" visit? I was told we could cancel if we were unhappy. We decided to go back home and look for another vet After all the promises about caring for their patients on their website we were truly disappointed. I thought the least they could do was call me with an apology since they had all our information on the paperwork I completed and gave back to them. I been here 3 times with my 2 dogs . I think the Vet is not knowledgeable . He is quick to nickel and dime you. He never knows what's wrong with my dogs , he always want to do a blood test , X-ray and try different things that cost more money. All the test are always negative . The prices for the same services increase each visit and when questioned they're response is, "your animal is difficult". But I cannot see my animal being "difficult" as no one is allowed in the office for visits anymore or for grooming, so how can I know he's being difficult especially if your visit takes only 6 minutes for a $40+ service... prices are ridiculous, staff is rude when you ask questions about pet care. The vet needs to reconsider its staff and pricing. My dog bled for 3 hours after his nails were trimmed and the management response was "he was being difficult", your staff is supposed to be trained to work with animals if he's bleeding for that long YOU did something wrong. No apology when questioned, just brushed off response and hung up. Would not recommend, gave them two chances, as people have busy days, but this is ridiculous. read more

2 hours ago If I could take stars away I would- Attached is a picture of Pogi, who I rescued on Oct 5th. He has been sick from day one with discharge from his nose and eyes and had the beginnings of a skin issue with his hair starting to fall out. On October 21st, I brought him to Royal Oaks veterinary Hospital. My vet was Dr. KELLY DWYER who looked him over and prescribed some medicine. She misdiagnosed him and glossed over his skin issue which has become a form of scabies now, as you can see from the picture taken Oct 31st. Pogi has been getting worse and I wanted to talk to the vet and ask about changing his antibiotics to Amoxicillin, and see if I could get some anti-flea/mite shampoo, they refused to talk to me UNLESS I took Pogi with me so they could charge me another $66 for an office visit. They also refused to do anything else unless they ran tests on him so that they could charge more exorbitant fees unnecessarily. After going back and forth with them, asking to try a different medicine before these tests or at the very least to try an anti-flea/mite shampoo, they canceled my appointment and told me they were sending my pets information somewhere else (and were now refusing to help my cat). Dr. Kelly Dwyer is incompetent and either lacks experience or just doesn't care about the welfare of the animals; one thing is for sure though- MONEY COMES FIRST. I do not recommend this veterinarian to anybody. I have never been treated so unprofessional especially when my cat Pogi's health is concerned. *** NOTE, Look at the bill. Charged for Drontal-Feline dewormer half pill $33 when on the internet it cost $5 for a whole pill. read more

I've switched vets because the other one we went to in town was so slow and didn't respect appointment times. Royal Oaks doesn't seem to be much better. I come for a 4pm pick up time and I'm still waiting at 4:50pm. This has happened 3 times in two weeks. It's been expensive to try to fix the issue and it's still not fixed. In my shock of Luna's diagnosis, they were so patient. I received a card today with condolences, a lock of her hair and an imprint of her paw and nose. Our cat was there for an emergency visit and they did NOT take care of him. They brought our cat out to the car in his carrier and put him in the backseat for us. We drove home and took him out of his carrier and found that his back, belly, and carrier were covered in blood. He also had different kinds of greasy/slimey stuff all over his body. No one obviously cleaned him up after he peed blood at the facility because the blood he was covered in was dried. I know for a fact that he arrived at the facility completely clean because I had just bathed him less than two days prior to the visit. I don't feel that he was properly cared for. I asked MULTIPLE times for copies of the paperwork for everything they supposedly did to him, and I received nothing. No test results, x-rays, medical notes, specific itemization for the charges. I did not receive a single thing. We were EXTREMELY over charged and taken advantage of. Not a single person was up front with us about the costs, care, or updates with our pet. We should not be financially responsible for mistakes the practice and it's staff made. The biggest mistake being that they chose to overlook his medical history, recent X-rays/information provided by another Veterinarian, and the information we tried to provide but were ignored. So, our pet was provided unnecessary treatment WITHOUT our informed consent. I've reached out to them multiple times since then to try to remedy the situation and still haven't received a call back from their office manager. I have received one phone call from someone who wasn't even there and knew nothing about my case; who said she'd call me after looking into it and hasn't. I have also received one email from them trying to justify their wrongdoings. They misled us as to what papers we supposedly "signed" and didn't give us a chance to read any of it because they held our cat hostage and withheld any information about him. I was a first time patient, took my cat in for an exam after she hurt her leg and was limping. The vet did xrays and gave her an injection of pain reliever, which was enough to keep her high as a kite for 3 days, wouldn't sleep, wouldn't blink, could move. She stopped eating and drinking, which is something she loved to do. Then took her to another vet and after getting the blood work result from Royal Oak, we saw that her white blood cell count was through the roof, which was never told to us after the original appointment. The vet at Atlas was shocked and disappointed that no one had ever called to discuss the results of her blood work. The great vets at Atlas tried to control the white blood cells and get her back on track. But we strongly believe the damage caused by the initial injection of pain reliever had already caused her to shut down. She died yesterday morning. We may not have concrete proof, but there is no doubt in my wife and I's mind that all of this was a result of taking her to Royal Oak. We took her in to simply get her leg looked at, and now she's gone. Avoid this vet at all costs! read more

We have used Royal Oaks for about 6 years now and have been extremely pleased! Our dog is epileptic and was having seizures every other hour. Through patience and persistence, Dr. Dwyer has been able to stabilize his seizures and I can now relax without having to watch him go through this terrible event. I no longer use the services at Royal Oaks Vet Hospital as they provided me with false information with regards to the promotional offer when I opened up my Care Credit account to pay for my dog's surgery. I was initially informed by Diana, who works at the front desk of Royal Oaks, that my promotional offer would be 0% interest if the loan was paid in full within 60 months. It turned out that the promotional offer was only good for 6 months, which meant that I had to pay a much higher amount each month to avoid interest, which was not in my budget to do so at the time and why I decided to use the 60-month interest free promotional offer with Care Credit in the first place. The difference in the promotional offer period was only disclosed to me when I received my first statement from Care Credit. As a result, I contacted Care Credit asking them to honor to 60-month interest free promotion which was told to me by Diana and which I duly noted on the receipt Diana gave me to sign. However, Care Credit refused to help me because they said the promotional offers are assigned by the vet hospital and not by Care Credit themselves, which meant that I had to deal directly with Dr. Dwyer to rectify this matter. In my conversation with Dr. Dwyer, she refused to honor the 60-month interest free promotional offer which was told to me by Diana, one of her staff members. Dr. Dwyer insisted that the issue was Care Credit's matter to resolve when Care Credit advised me numerous times that it was not and only the vet hospital can assign such offers. Dr. Dwyer then turned it around and acted like she was the victim in this case because of the money she has to provide to Care Credit for offering their financial services at her vet hospital as she has to pay Care Credit a flat amount for each account that is opened by one of her customers, as well as a certain amount for each promotion that is offered. Frankly, Dr. Dwyer's fiduciary responsibility to Care Credit for the financial services they provide to her clients has no relevance in the matter as that is the cost of her doing business which she must be responsible for absorbing. Dr. Dwyer failed to recognize that it was me, the customer, who was ultimately stuck with the bill and now needed to find a means to pay well over $3,000.00 in medical costs for my dog in 6 months or less to avoid having to pay astronomically high interest rates. I was very disappointed with the way Dr. Dwyer failed to take responsibility for a mistake which was made by one of her staff members and then she acted like the victim in the situation complaining about how much money she had to give out to Care Credit. She had complete apathy towards me as one of her customers as she was not willing to work on a compromise to ameliorate the situation by helping me to find another payment plan which would be reasonably feasible for me. To add insult to injury, I received a condescending letter from the office manager, Yahaira, which basically stated that they were absolved of any responsibility for what had happened despite the fact they it was one of Dr. Dwyer's staff members, Diana, who misinformed me of the length of time the promotion would be valid. Overall, the lack of concern to work with me on another payment plan whereby I could pay Dr. Dwyer directly, or something else which was more reasonable than having to pay the full balance within 6 months and not taking responsibility for misinformation which was given to me by one of her staff members showed how little Dr. Dwyer cares about her customers. It just seemed like Dr. Dwyer cared more about the money than trying to do the right thing for a mistake which her staff member created in the first place. Needless to say, I lost all trust and faith in them to care for my pets. read more

I am so grateful that I found Dr. G and Dr. Dwyer when I relocated to Clermont. They have been so kind and compassionate with me and my dogs, and I've never once questioned their judgement on care. I firmly believe my senior dog enjoyed extra years due to the diligent care of the doctors and the genuine affection of all the staff. They never rushed her or were rough with her when she was scared. They allowed her to be a mama's girl and included me in her care routine as much as possible. When she passed, the doctors and the staff were incredibly patient and kind, allowing us all the time together that we needed. They cried with me and reaffirmed what I've always known: that she was special to them, not just a patient. My new puppy loses her mind every time we pull into the parking lot. She can't wait to see her friends! Even if the care team wasn't so awesome with me, her joyous reaction to them would be enough to convince me that they are the best for her. This practice might be a little more expensive than "budget" clinics, but I can't put a price on the health and care of my babies. I wouldn't trust anyone else. read more

We are full time RV-ers and have a 5 year old fur baby (maltese). We have traveled the US in the last 5+ years and have always had a different vet in the various states. Our dog was showing signs of being in pain when trying to walk and was lethargic and wanted to just sleep. We were very concerned and wanted to get her somewhere as soon as possible. I called several Vets in the area and was told by several Vets that they are not taking new patients and several other vets that said they couldn't take her for a week or more. We finally found Royal Oak and they said they could take her the next day. From beginning to end was an amazing experience! They are professional, courteous, prompt, ...I could go on and on..but the best thing is they will not rip you off like so many others. They suggest certain things but in no way are they mandatory. The doctor diagnosed our dog with a herniated disc without an xray. We could have had tons of tests and treatments but being retired and on a limited budget we decided to take just the meds and keep her confined for a few weeks like they recommended. I wish I could give this place and staff 10 stars! Its so refreshing to finally find a place that we can trust. We will be back! read more

We have 5 beagles and one tabby cat and have been going to Dr. Dwyer since 1999. Recently our oldest beagle (13) fell ill. Due to timing, we rushed her down the street to another local vet, who did an ultrasound and immediately diagnosed her with small nodules on her spleen resulting in hemangiosarcoma, a terminal cancer with no cure. Devastated, we took her to Dr. Dwyer, who was very concerned with the original diagnosis and called in a professional radiologist to conduct a thorough ultrasound. Yes, it was a bit more expensive, but the original "doctor" did not catch the fact that our little girl had a softball size tumor on her spleen. The original doctor said that he would not perform surgery to remove the spleen unless we decided to go through with Chemo and that if we didn't go through with the Chemo that we should go home and make her comfortable as she only had about 2-6 months...he said: we'd be lucky to see 2 months. Dr. Dwyer felt very strongly that she perform the surgery to remove the spleen and the enormous tumor. Albeit, there would be risks. From our many years of working with Dr. Dwyer, we had full confidence in her skill and her commitment to do her very best. Our little girl hemorrhaged severely, but by the grace of God guiding Dr. Dwyer in her knowledge of vet medicine, the bleeding stopped. The tumor was sent off to a lab to be biopsied. It came back as a "Hematoma" NON-CANCEROUS!!! Had we not proceeded with the surgery, our little girl would have bled to death from the tumor and nodules already bleeding internally. Due to Dr. Dwyer's incredible talent and quick thinking our little girl is with us today and we have many many more memories to create with her. Be Aware of those who are quick to give a diagnosis simply because of a dogs age and without proper tests. Dr. Dwyer is thorough and very detailed, because she cares and loves animals and has a true concern and devotion to her clients...both human and animal alike! You can be sure she won't ever give up and will always perform at the best of her ability, no matter if you are a new client or one who has been with her for years. A furbaby of one year of age to eighteen+ years of age are always treated with the same genuine and heartfelt compassion and care. Since the removal of the spleen and the tumor, our little girl is a different little girl. Her eyes sparkle and she is more loving than ever before. We can't thank Dr Dwyer and her complete staff enough for giving our little girl a brand new life. read more
