I absolutely LOVE this place! My boyfriend and I eat here pretty regularly, as they have a large selection of vegetarian and vegan food on their menu. We have not once ever been disappointed with anything that we have ordered, from appetizers to the main course. Everything is fresh and the vegetables are always cooked perfectly. The staff is friendly and attentive, and make you feel like family when you are there. The atmosphere is nice, with soft lighting, candles and flowers on every table. It is quite and good for a romantic evening out, or a casual lunch. The restauraunt is VERY clean, and the bathrooms are immaculate! I would highly recommend the Vegetable Hot Basil with a side of steamed white rice, or the Tofu String Bean, both are definitely some of my favorite main dishes there. read more

Good food, but the wait to get it has been too long. Our group comes here often because the food is good. Yesterday, just four of us and we didn't get our food until 90 minutes after sitting down. Other nights the restaurant wasn't busy and still have had to wait 90 minutes for our food when there have 6-8 in our group. I simply love this restaurant. It's cozy and comfortable. Professional staff, excellent drinks and food. Noodle dishes are great. Yummy peanut sauce. One of the greatest wings I've ever had- The Royal Orchid Wing... Sweet and crispy and delicious and unlike any Asian wings I've ordered before. I love all of their food. Truly, but their soups are the best. Tom Kar Gai, chicken coconut milk soup with lime and galanga is just amazing. I always order two when getting takeout. This was as good as brown sugar in Newburyport. We got the pad Thai, drunken noodles Beef satay and the boneless spareribs. Everything had a fresh bright taste. Veggies weren't mush. They included some familiar yet done up dressings like a cucumber sweet and sour sauce. The sweet Totally played with the cucumber aaaaand I hate myself for writing that hipster line. Now I've never actually sat down and ate here but I always order take-out and every time it's the BANGKOK NOODLES (with only shrimp though it comes with chicken also) and let me tell you - IT WAS AMAZING. The first time I picked up my food I was somewhat expecting the regular greasy, dripping with MSG rice noodles soaked in what their version of peanut sauce is but what I got was something completely and totally out-of-this-world different. Everything was entirely fresh and it was no where near the slimy chinese you can pick up at any china buffet, china world, china universe etc...I guess it helps that it's also not really chinese but rather thai. This is the only meal I've actually ordered from here so in regards to everything else I can't really give an accurate review but man, if you're in need of some amazing bangkok noodles - then this is the place to go. I'm not even slightly fazed at the fact that the lunch order of noodles is somewhere around $8.95 whilst the dinner order (which is no larger) is roughly 3-4 dollars more - oh well, the noodles are definately worth the selling of my soul if necessary. Not only are the noodles amazing but the girl at the counter, that knows my name, my brother's name and my mother's name by now, is extremely nice and attentive never forgetting to say "Have a nice day Ms. Blades" - and this happens even when I'm not using my credit care that so conveniently says my whole name not to mention that basically spells out my whole life on a little piece of plastic. Quick tangent - Do cashiers think they are clever when the say "Thank you Ms. insert last name here" just after I've handed them my credit card? No sh*t, that's my name - you just read it off my card dumba$$ - you think I didn't catch that and am now chuckling just to amuse myself....I don't THINK SO. Show me a cashier who can say my name after I've just handed them cash and then I'll be impressed but even still - really, you're a cashier - use your mind powers elsewhere please. So back to Royal Orchid- Great bangkok noodles, order them for takeout and 15 minutes and 10 bucks later you will be stuffing your face with some of the most delicious/amazing/delictable/any other synonyms you think of food. damn, now I'm hungry. read more

This 50-seat restaurant has a great vibe and a great little bar. No seats at the bar, but they can make just about anything. Good wine list as well. Full disclosure, I knew the owners when they were waiters at The Duck Walk in Wakefield, but to be honest, the food here tastes fresher and is 30% less expensive. The place had a few tables with folks so we were ok with waiting for our food to arrive, which took quite sometime... Restaurant is on the small side. I have only been there for lunch. A sit down lunch is usually very quick and service is attentive, they know you maybe don't have all day to hang out and wait for your food. Takeout lunch specials are large and I always have leftovers for the next day/dinner. Good vegetarian options. I like the vegetarian pad thai, and the curry combo options. Food always has good flavor, but isn't dripping in sauce or overly spicy. Before Royal Orchid, the only options close to my office were pizza, subs and that type of stuff. As with some reviews, it can get TOTALLY PERSONAL! Watch out! :) Well, I go there from time to time and pretty much get the same thing over and over again, silly but it works for me. Getting someone to help you can be a challenge and getting them to understand you as well might be difficult. I tried to ask for some things taken out and it was a bit of a frustrating event. I wanted to write it all down and hand it to them and say "this is what I want" but the order came through. I love the detail they put into making their flower carrots, I love them, same carrot, just looks like a flower, nice touch. Their peanut sauce is very good as well, ordering the meat and chicken appetizers with peanut sauce is nice as is their dumplings, yum! I enjoy the location and I go there from time to time, the language is a bit of a problem from time to time, but overall, I can overlook it. The place is quiet, clean, a relaxing atmosphere that is a pleasure to be in. Nice cloth napkins and table cloths that add a nice decor and feel. read more

Delicious pad thai with just the right amount of chicken and shrimp, and if you ask for peanut sauce (extra, lots) they don't look at you like you're crazy. And the peanut sauce is great. The Royal Orchid pays all due attention to creating a pleasant atmosphere and to the cleanliness of their restaurant, and the presentation of the food leaves nothing to be desired. The food itself was good, but my favorite Thai appetizers - fried tofu and crispy vegetarian Thai rolls - were served in small portions and many of the sauces were less flavorful than I've ever tasted at any Thai restaurant. The Thai roll flavor was better than average, and the Thai iced tea is amazing here - exceptionally strong and sweet. Overall, this is a nice place to eat, but if you're looking for really good Thai food in this area, try the Thai Spice Kitchen in Ipswich or Andaman Thai in Newburyport. read more

Maybe we went on an off night. Our orders were forgotten by the kitchen and as I saw everyone around us eating it took multiple attempts to alert the waiter. Once the appetizers came out and the problem corrected I assumed the entree would be out quickly - not so we had to ask for our food a second time. Vegetables like snow peas and baby corn were fresh and allowed to express their flavors. The service was courteous. However, don't order their noodle soup. They don't know how to make noodle soup. Never have I written a review before but I needed to tonight. All the food I got was absolutely horrible. I ordered the Chicken with Cashews which had no flavoring at all. The beef with macadamias was WAY overcooked and tough to chew. The crab Rangoon's were also overcooked and way tough to chew. I also requested peanut sauce in which the wrong sauce was given instead. After spending $50 on dinner we ended up throwing it in the garbage. read more

Yuck! Why are people eating here? My crispy rolls were cold in the middle like they had been frozen. Then the waitress messed up my order and brought out a shrimp dish when I asked for chicken. After reading the reviews here we decided to try take-out, we ordered chicken basil fried rice and the drunken noodles. Unfortunately both dishes were bland and didn't have the spice or consistency expected (they are both supposed to be spicy and should have sauce in the container, in particular the drunken noodles). The vegetables were not even cooked, in one of the dishes the carrots and peppers were still raw, they appeared to be dropped in after the dish was completed. The Tom Gai (coconut based) soup was good, that is the only reason we are giving two stars. We were really disappointed with the food, not sure if it was an isolated incident or not but we didn't feel that in spending $30 we got the value for our money. read more

We have been to the Royal Orchid a number of times and have been pleased each time. The Rowley curry is a favorite of mine as are the spring rolls. The service has always been attentive and pleasant for us. I have a favorite Thai restaurant in Vermont of all places that has set the standard for me, thus the four stars instead of five.
