I've hesitated to write this review for some time, but after seeing recent allegations against the school, I feel it is important to share my experience. While our first year was smooth, the second year revealed systemic issues in how the school is managed and how they are dismissive serious student concerns. There were 4 primary areas of concern that led to me pulling my child from this school- Inappropriate Spiritual Guidance: My child was told by the Pastor's wife that if he wasn't a "good kid," his heart would become "dirty" and he would die. Using fear and mortality as a disciplinary tool for a young child is spiritually and emotionally damaging. Academic Management: Despite a very small class size of only six students, a significant amount of classwork was consistently sent home for me to supervise and correct. I was told this was to prevent him from losing recess which i didn't agree with at all , but with a 6:1 student to teacher ratio, I expected the educator to be able to manage individual student progress and corrections during school hours. Response to Bias : One of the most upsetting incidents involved a student telling my son to "go back to his country." When I requested a meeting to discuss how the school promotes an inclusive environment, the response from leadership was dismissive. Instead of addressing the harm caused, the Principal stated they "don't talk about race" and her dad/ the Pastor of the church on campus proceeded to share a tone-deaf anecdote about owning an "Aunt Jemima" cookie jar and not understanding why a visitor found it offensive. Lastly, My child was not served lunch one day and went the entire day with only a snack. When questioned, the teacher blamed my son for "not speaking up." He later told me he was too embarrassed to ask because the teacher had been threatening the class all week that they "wouldn't get pizza" if they didn't behave. Using food as a bargaining chip or threat is cruel. Lack of Accountability: When I informed the Principal we were leaving, there was no concern for my childs well-being or the reasons for our departure. The immediate response was that "per the handbook, tuition is still due for two months." It became clear that the administration and faculty --which is heavily insulated by family ties--is not at all equipped to handle modern social dynamics or provide a supportive, inclusive atmosphere. This school pours love into their students and treats my kids like one of their own. The lessons they instill in our kids complement what we teach at home. RPA is like homeschooling on steroids. The kids get a concentrated education, learn more than they ever would in public school and are free from distractions and bad behavior. One of the reasons we didn't want our kids going to public school is the lack of parental accountability for children's discipline and behavior. I love that RPA recognizes kids have bad days but does not tolerate ongoing discipline issues that distract from the classroom and influence other kids to behave the same way. The parents have built a unique community and often spend time together on the playground after school while the kids play. It is Little House on the Prarie meets modern-day San Antonio. read more

I've called and left voicemails several times. Ans I've sent emails. Zero response. I've done this over the span of several weeks just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe one week they were busy or out sick, but nope. Just simply - No response. It's unprofessional and honestly, quite rude, to simple ignore someone who's reached out multiple times asking for a call back. I also saw posts on their Facebook page where two other people were commenting that they had also called numerous times and no one ever returned the call. In the post, they mentioned how that reflects poorly on a facility caring for children if they can't even have basic communication to respond to people. First, let me state that I am writing this review to help parents decide on who will be their caregiver/teacher/support five days a week during school hours. Your child may be treated poorly due to the lack of knowledge the staff (Kristan Pena Olivares, "the principal," and The pastor's wife, Veronica Pena, "the pre-k four teacher") have. I want to state that this is my experience, and I was shocked by how my daughter and I were treated today. My daughter is a high energy three years old that doesn't allows follow directions; please find me a child that does. This was stated in a conversation with Veronica Pena before enrolling my daughter into the pre k 3 class. Kristin Olivares sent me a message while I was at work explaining that my daughter was crying and would not calm down, and even with the time outs, they had placed her in (mind you, because of her crying, she wasn't able to go on the playground either). I told her I was at work but would be there as soon as possible because my husband was TDY (staff was aware of this). Her response was if she wasn't picked up immediately, then there would be an issue. Well, all working adults know that there are times you can not just up and leave your job if you would like to keep your job. I called my husband and asked if he could reach out to them and see what could be done until I could get there. The response we got from Veronica Pena was, "we will give you until the end of the week to find your daughter somewhere else to go." Once I could leave my job and get the school, I asked to speak to Veronica Pena, not because I wanted to change the outcome but because, at that point, I didn't feel the school was a safe place for my developing child. I wanted to know what transpired today to cause them to kick my three-year-old out, considering she didn't break any of the handbook rules. I was met with hostility and disrespect. Veronica Pena was not there to talk as an adult; she was there to fight. I never once raised my voice because I knew right then that she knew that what they were doing was wrong. She even said that no one in my family wanted to watch my daughter because of her behavior. I'm still curious as to who gave her that idea because I never had that conversation with her or anyone else and would never speak about my child that way, even if it were the case. Then she was completely disrespectful and said, "you know what kind of child you have." The questions I never got answers to were: " If she was crying, what did you do to redirect her instead of the timeout? If this was an issue, why wasn't a parent-teacher meeting scheduled? You claim that I know what kind of child I have but what kind of child is that exactly?" I even tried to explain that even though my daughter is bright, she can not comprehend mentally and intellectually as she(Veronica Pena) and I can, Veronica's response was " your child is not like typical three-year-olds?" Again what is a typical three-year-old, and what makes my child different? Throughout the conversation, I had to ask her to lower her voice, to please not roll her eyes and show the same amount of respect to me as I do to her. At the end of the conversation, the truth came out. She was upset with something my husband disagreed with; they wanted parents to pick up their children during an active shooter incident in the surrounding area, and my husband told her that the correct thing to do was to shelter in place. This incident three weeks ago created a grudge in Veronica Peña's heart, and she and her daughter (Kristan Olivares) took it out on my daughter. She continuously said disrespectful things about my husband and blamed her reasoning for handling things because of him. She kept mentioning the active shooter situation, which had nothing to do with why they chose such harsh punishment for my daughter. For this to be a Christian Academy run by a Christian family, I can honestly say that I am embarrassed for them. I feel sorry that they treated my child this way. The family running the church people are held to a higher standard, and they will have to answer for actions one day, and I hope they are forgiven. This has not caused any inconvenience in my home, thankfully, and I am happy my daughter isn't exposed to this type of negativity longer than she had to be. We complain about the new generation of children that will be the future, but we are unwilling to raise them with love and grace. They do not learn overnight. Controlling emotions and learning to be productive in society starts with everyone these children are in contact with. I fear for these little ones because adults are so quick to place judgment instead of learning the child's psyche. Love this school! Love the one on one that my child gets because of the small class size they have which I love. It is also a Christian based school which is very important to me to have my child learn about on top of all other curriculum and school subjects. Highly recommend. Teachers & principals are unable to equip "difficult" and emotional children with the tools they need to properly correspond their emotions and behaviors to positively reflect what they are trying to display. Positive reinforcement is not a advised here as they like to call your children out & put them out of school. Principal also likes to directly put all of the behavior issues back at home even though the issues they claim to be having do not happen at home. They try to relay information in a nice way so they don't come off rude, but that's not the case. Instead of helping the children transform and grow, they belittle and dominate the children. Also cameras were conveniently broken when I asked to see what truly happened in the classroom. No doubt that my daughter has her issues, but placing blame on her instead of helping her is not the solution. Classrooms also do not have an aide which is a Texas requirement until 1st grade. Loved the teacher until the issues starting arising. However, a little more training, certifications and Texas licensing should be reinforced in this "academy".
