I've passed by this place for years, and finally decided to order fried chicken. Unfortunately, it tasted like old oil, and I'm pretty sure they cooked it in cheap, trashy oil. The chicken was dry and salty, and the ribs were just okay. I did enjoy the BBQ sauce, though pit has a nice tang. The mac and cheese was terrible; the cheese was congealed rather than melted, and the noodles were overcooked. The collard greens were good, but pairing them with the tangy ribs was a bit overwhelming. The cornbread was nastyI won't be ordering from here again. I think the BBQ sauce works best on chicken, not ribs, which I believe should have a smoky flavor. The ribs fell off the bone easily, which isn't impressive since that's pretty standard. I spent $45 on Uber rides and wasted my time and money. The person who made the mac and cheese clearly doesn't understand the science of good cheese you need a funky cheese, a melting cheese, and a flavorful cheese. The ribs were ok. The sauce was unique and it had a nice flavor. The texture was a bit strange so I couldn't eat them. The candy yams were heavy with the flavor of cinnamon. The Mac and cheese was a no. The cheese was not tasty and there wasn't any flavor. The greens were different... odd yet tasty thank God or I wouldn't have eaten. I wanted delicious fried fish and knew I had to go to Bed-Stuy to get it. I went to Royal, a long time favorite and I was not disappointed. My first win was there was no line-it was a Friday afternoon. There's always a line! I ordered a whiting fish meal and as usual waited for the fish to be cooked. It's always worth the wait! My meal was so delicious! The fish was fresh and seasoned perfectly, without too much salt. The collard greens were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Royal has never disappointed me. I ordered this for delivery since I don't have patience to stand on a long line. I ordered Fried Chicken with potato salad, candied yams and a side of chopped bbq. The fried chicken was fairly moist and decently seasoned and a nice size breast and wing. Candied yams were decent. The potato salad was meh. Way to watery. I keep searching for a good restaurant potato salad and it seems hopeless. The chopped bbq was good and I would order it again, I just wish they had sent a side of bbq sauce with it. An abundance of bay leaves in the barbecue ribs caused my wife to experience a chocking crisis. She said it felt like a razor blade stuck in her throat. I never heard of bay leaves being used in barbecue sauce. Be careful. Mac and cheese is more like pudding. Woody stems of greens are also stiff and could present swallowing problems. They undercooked my beef ribs they were tough. The potatoe salad did not taste the same as the last time I purchased it. I did not like it. One order was incorrect. The cornbread tasted like it was a day old. The food is like potluck sometimes its good sometimes its not. Some customers were complaining how long it took to get their food. The entire team is friendly, the restaurant is always clean, and you can see the entire operation from the front of the restaurant. I love to see my food being prepared, and even better, I get to watch the chefs move from the grill to the counter and chop my food right before my eyes. Simply put, the ribs are delicious. They're liberally seasoned and smoked until it looks like meat candy. The notes of sticky fatty grilled goodness are amplified by the tender texture and generous flavor of the bbq sauce. Mustard based usually isn't preferred by me, but I must admit, it goes very well with the rib. The ribs are cohesive, plentiful, and finger licking good. The cornbread is soft, sweet, buttery, and not at all crumbly! It's more so on the cake side of texture and it is divine. Just go ahead and get extra. Every experience here is wonderful. Best soul food in Bedstuy ever! My parents went there when they were on Howard Ave(?) back in the 70's (?). They have always been a favorite spot for me and now my grown children. I'm so happy that they are now closer to me! Cobbler and tater salad is better than sex! read more

Royal Rib House is good. The food is really good. The stars are the ribs, chicken, chopped barbeque, collard greens, cole slaw and peas & rice. The Mac and cheese is still a lil watery and not cheesy to my liking so I avoid it. I also get the peach cobbler. The ordering system is still old school (talk to the person by the door who WRITES down your order). Try to go early afternoon on the Thursday or Friday because it won't be crowded. Anytime after 3 PM good luck with getting out within a hour after placing your order. There is a better way of taking and fulfilling the orders and I wish they would reach out to someone for assistance in that aspect. As someone who can cook soul food, I must say that they do a darn good job themselves especially the greens with the with the spicy bite or the mac & cheese. For some reason, I am not sold with the cornbread, my previous orders the cornbread had a weird flavor like someone tried to add something different. I've been going to Royal Rib since they were located on Halsey/Howard, that was many many many years ago. I moved and come from Long Island to get their food. I love their chopped BBQ with Cole slaw and ribs, Calvin's BBQ sauce is the best. Since reopening this year, the service is extremely slow ( maybe due to Covid and staff is short). I got the opportunity to visit this place while visiting. The food here was AMAZING! PLEASE BE ADVISED, this place is only open Thursday- Saturday due to prepping their meats the days before. The people that worked there and the people that were ordering from there was even better! The environment gave me a down to earth and at home feeling. As for the food.....MAGNIFICENT! I ordered the BBQ Ribs plate with yams and Mac n Cheese. The yams were just the right amount of sweetness, the cornbread tasted like cake(which I LOVE), the Mac and cheese was seasoned to perfection and the ribs were extremely tender and savory! Had my first stint at Royal Rib House today and they did not disappoint. I ordered the BBQ chicken dinner with a side of green beans, and collard greens. I also ordered a rack of pork ribs to try them out. The sides were very tasty. I enjoyed both of them a lot. The chicken was good. The ribs were good as well. They did not fall of the bone but they were tasty. The sauce is the amazing part of the meal. I could drink the sauce by itself. I slathered it on the ribs and the chicken to enhance both pieces of meat. I enjoyed it even with the wait of twenty to thirty minutes to be served. I went to Brooklyn today because I had to go to a funeral and then I said let me go to Royal ribs because I remember them 25 years ago they had the best baby back ribs. Today I went and it was the worst I ever tasted. The ribs were HUGE soaked in sauce. When I removed the sauce the meat was dry. when it comes to the fish all I tasted was SALT. The potatoes and collard greens tasted like SALT as well. The worst $45 I ever spent. They should not be called "ROYAL" RIBS because there is nothing Royal about it. read more

Go for the meat! The BBQ ribs and chicken fall right off the bone - the mild BBQ sauce with a bay leaf has such a good flavor. The fried options (chicken and fish) are so well-seasoned and crispy. 100% worth waiting in line, cash in hand, to take your food to the bar next door to eat. Service is kind and full of regulars. On the other hand.. those sides are not worth the trouble.
