    BBQ brisket platter
    Jazz F.

Just before I hit the highway, I noticed a restaurant named, "Monty's BBQ." My first thought was, "This is a shore town, what would anyone here know about BBQ?" Then, I pulled over because as the self-proclaimed "King of All Texas Aggies" on the Jersey Shore, the responsibility of checking it out and confirming that their BBQ was marginal at best fell upon my shoulders. I meandered in and allowed Monty's the pleasure of having me as a paying customer. I looked at the menu. To tell the truth, I only cared about the meat selection and not the sides. Meat is life! Meat is the only thing that matters! They had pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, BEEF BRISKET (Whoop!), and smoked turkey breast. I was surprised that they didn't have smoked sausage like every Southwest BBQ joint I've been to, but then I remembered, this is Jersey... There's sausage at every single one of the far too many Italian restaurants here. Probably a good business decision for them to stick to the basics. Doing what any sane person would do, I ordered the beef brisket platter. It came with corn bread, coleslaw, pickles, and onions. The young woman behind the counter asked me what type of BBQ sauce I wanted. There was a choice of Texas, North Carolina (mild or hot), South Carolina, Kansas City, or Alabama white. I opted for the Texas BBQ sauce out of general principle. Their side selection was respectable: macaroni salad, mac and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, pickles and onions, and ratatouille. My order was delivered to my table almost within two or three minutes. The sliced brisket looked good, and it smelled good. But, the proof is in the eating! The brisket was incredible. I'm not saying it was Austin, Texas or Lockhart, Texas quality, but it was better than a number of plates of brisket I've had in Texas and other states in the Southwest and, it was certainly the best brisket I've had on the East Coast! It had been smoked with Red Oak, the "King of Hardwoods". The bark was firm and crispy, the fat content of each slice was perfect. There was the required pink smoke ring under the bark. Obviously, the pit master knew what he was doing. You could tell the brisket had been smoked the correct length of time and at the right temperature to get over the "stall" for the connective tissue in the meat to break down.

Wow! This was soooo good! I got the brisket sandwich and it was packed with meat, came with plenty of sauce, and onions and pickles to add on it. Staff was very friendly too. Casual but clean. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for great BBQ

I felt safe walking inside of The Smokehouse today, no unofficial doorman. The second thing, this used to be a few seats for dine-in, but I can understand why it's strictly in and out. They are very busy, I would say, too busy to deal with cleaning the dining area. That is a good thing for business. I didn't see what I wanted and the young lady, ( I appreciate her so much) was kind and sweet. She informed me of the type fish they serve. I got Whiting, Mac n Cheese, and Greens. The Food* The greens were very tasty, properly seasoned and proportioned well. The Mac n Cheese is always compared to moms. Though the Mac n Cheese didn't hold together like I'm used to eating it. I did find it quite D'licious. What ever they are doing? They, are doing! I had the fried whiting, it had a bit of spicy kick. Very tasty, moist, not over fried or dry. The cornbread was silky smooth and held together on its own. I've never had cornbread that was like butter yet held together and didn't break apart, even when you bite it. I got three pieces, of course for an extra cost and it was so worth the purchase. To sum it up, this is the exact kind of meal, taste included, mind you, that I'm used to eating down south. The smoke house has duplicated a fine Southern dish. Just thinking, if they decided to offer a full sit down experience, like severs, a hosts or hostess to greet diners, table service, what a wonderful world this would be. Pro-Tip: Make sure you get the peppers and onions on top of the whiting. You can thank me later. Inspire more, Yelp more!

The place is veteran owned and has been in business for a while! All the choices on the menu are mouth watering good! After serious consideration we settled on sharing the Trinity platter which came with brisket, spare ribs and sausage links. We opted out of the sausage and upgraded the platter with pastrami. The Texas Trinity platter also comes with choices of pickles, one small sized side, we had Mac and Cheese, and 2 rolls. The portions were satisfying and good to share. The meats, oh my! All were smoked and cooked to perfection! Moist, juicy, and tender! Even better, they were seasoned so well there is no need for the also perfect sauces they offer! What an amazing experience at Red White n Que Smoke House! From the friendly and attentive service to their amazing smoked meats! All was top notch real at this place! The staff was very friendly and sociable. I had the Texas Trinity ($36.87). It came with a quarter pound of brisket, quarter rack of ribs, a jalapeno cheddar sausage link, a small side, house pickles and two rolls. The day I went, they unfortunately ran out of the sausage, so they replaced it with a quarter pound of pastrami with no added charge. The side I choose was mac and cheese and the pickles I had were horseradish. This was a large plate of food for sure. I liked how all the meats were sliced, nice thickness on them. The brisket was very tender and very flavorful. The ribs were a little inconsistent with texture, but the flavor was on point. My favorite was the pastrami. The pepper rub was great and just the overall consistency of the meat. The mac and cheese was very cheesy, but still solid and was ideal adding their multiple sauces. The only one I did not like was the white Alabama. All of the other ones, good. The horseradish pickles were a nice change up and paired well with the meats. I also tried the BBQ sundae that had smoked baked beans with pulled pork and vinegar slaw. The type of meat and slaw were chosen. This was very tasty too and another big portion. Will I go back? No doubt.

Tried to get a seat at other restaurants, and ran into either no beer or no seats. So Smokehouse wasn't the first choice. But even then, it was disappointing. Seriously, I've gotten better nachos at a baseball game. The nachos weren't heated, just the nacho cheese and meat. So there was unmelted cheddar cheese inside, with warm nacho cheese poured over the top. The "smoked beef" was rubbery and the whole thing was just disappointing. As far as airport food prices go, it was a decent quantity of food for $22. However, the quality was lacking. Eating at the airport is always disappointing because of the cost, especially if you want a beer. It's doubly so when the food is subpar.

We arrived on a Saturday the place was absolutely packed but we were seated within about 5 minutes. We were seated right near the smokers and it was so cool to watch them prepare each dish. The presentation here is phenomenal as is the quality of all the meat here. A fresh salad with oil was brought complimentary to the table and it was delicious. We ordered the Buffalo smoked chicken wings and Baba-Ghanoj for appetizers. The chicken wings were so tender that as you picked them up the meat literally fell off the bone! The sauce was subtle but had a nice Buffalo kick at the end. The baba-ghanoj was served cold and was perfect with a little sprinkle of salt. The fresh pitas paired perfectly with it. I'm glad I did my research on this spot as everyone recommended the fresh mint lemonade. Wow amazing and refreshing I love that it came out as a slushy like consistency. I could easily drink them all day and they're probably amazing to eat outside in the warmer months and enjoy. We each ordered the meat platters in 1lb portions which are served with fresh smoked rice that is so good and filling. I wanted the beef shank but sadly they were out and ordered the smoked beef short rib. They served everything on a platter for us which the presentation I must say is outstanding . My boyfriend ordered the smoked brisket and it was so tender and flavorful he kept saying "it's terrible you won't like it because he didn't want to share it at all LOL". We had no room for dessert but I cannot wait to return for our next dinner date night! I would definitely give it 4/5 stars. Nothing was terrible the only complaints I had is once we were seated and our order was taken our server asked if we want appetizers first which we said yes and everything came out at once. Which is fine not terrible just our table was packed and hard to eat. Additionally once our food came out it was hard to get anyone's attention for more drinks but it was no too much of an issue that it ruined the night as they were definitely way too busy and seemed to be short staffed. I definitely want to return and check out the rest of their menu. I highly recommend making the trip to Kanoon!
