This place is really great. I went in at 12:40pm today to drop off a pair of trousers hoping they would be ready for thanksgiving in two weeks. Other places I have been take at least a week. After measuring me, the owner asked me to stay while he worked. I was confused but realized he was going to tailor them on the spot for me. If looks could kill, this place should've put me 6 feet under. I am no stranger to custom tailoring. I've had two suits handmade, 4 suit jackets hemmed and 14 pairs of pants altered. I have a particular shape that makes clothes shopping a nightmare. Long legs, skinny waist and broad shoulders. LOCATION: The location is easily overlooked on the west side of Fulton ave and appears to be out of business along with the entire complex it resides in. The building looks rundown, but the location is fine. The parking lot has a few parking spaces, but I've never seen anyone there so there is always prime parking. TAILORING: I just moved in town and far away from my usual tailor. She was the best in Marysville. She had been my friends, coworkers and my go to tailor for 5 years so I had high expectations going in. I'm the best man for my best friends wedding so I needed a suit i ordered to fit perfectly. It was a few sizes too big. I needed more than 5 inches removed from the jacket and 3 inches from the waist of the pants. The length of the pants also needed to be shortened as well. That's a $200 job and a lot of work. When I was called back to try the suit on, it fit perfectly. The cuff in the pants caused them to fall perfectly over my shoes without bulge. The jacket fit like a glove but with room to breathe. And the alterations were made in a week. EXPERIENCE: When I first arrived I was greeted upon entering. The gentlemen at the counter showed me to a dressing room to try on my suit. He took the measurements so fast that it felt like he was rushing me through. I came in at about 4:45 pm so I could understand why. He was very kind and informative. Even cracked some jokes about my size and fitting the suit. When I was called back in to try on the suit, I realized that he was not rushing me out the door. He was just so very good at what he did that he did it with an ease that I mistook for carelessness. Oh, and it only cost $105 for my altering. This is a classic case of don't judge a book by its cover. read more

This spot is a small hole in the wall, and I am so glad I found it. I went in for the first time with my rowing uniform, and the gal did an amazing job! She had a quick turnaround and was reasonably priced. They close at 5:30, but she stayed later for me to pick up my uniform because I lost track of time and was so nice about it. I've been here twice, once to drop off and another to pick up. The first time I came in was a Saturday early afternoon. It was busy. Two men were waiting for a rush alteration and another customer came in after me. A woman came out from the back room to help me. She guided me to the two dressing rooms. I tried on my blazer and she was very meticulous in measuring and marking. She pinned it and asked me if I liked the pinned length; same with the jeans. She gave me a quote and hand marked receipt. They told me it's cash only, and pay when I pick it up. I was in and out under 10 minutes. Jeans - original hems: $18 Unlined blazer - sleeves hemmed: $15 I came back the following Saturday to pick up my items. I handed them my receipt and I paid. They had my clothes neatly folded for me on the back counter; they don't give out hangers or bags. If you want to try on your clothes to check it out, they let you do that. No attitudes. Quite the opposite, they are kind and respectful. The work is great and pricing is affordable. He does an awesome job, he is very skilled. I've been to tons of tailors and seamstresses throughout my life. He is by far the best. I wish he was in a better location that doesn't make my spidey alert senses go in overdrive. I've had no issues during my 2 visits. But this area and shopping center has seen better days. I used to live about five blocks away over 20 years ago. If I wasn't familiar with the area, I probably wouldn't have stopped in. So a 5 star for the tailor and 3 stars for the location averages 4 stars. read more

Referred here from Nordstrom Rack - originally bought suit from Men's Wearhouse to get a suit altered I bought a year ago. MW tells me my suit can't get altered because I lost too much weight and that I needed to get my suit re-cut. MW tried to get me to take advantage of the BOGO sale, but told them I'd think about it. I thought to myself...just buy a dress shirt and pants and shoes, and it should be good enough for a funeral. Enter in Nordstrom Rack - in the fitting room and it reminded me that they do alterations too, so I asked. They told me the same reason as MW and instead of trying to get me into a new suit, referred me to Royal Tailor Alterations. It was about 545pm and the tailor closes at 6pm. He says he would stay open for me, so I hurried over. He measured me over and asked when I needed it. This is a first for me, so I thought maybe he could get it done within a week and he says it won't be a problem. The cost was a fraction of a new suit. I paid 30% down (my suggestion) and to pay the balance when I pick it up. Fast forward to next week, and my suit fit perfectly - felt custom made. I was impressed. Comments from my friends and family were just amazed at the quality of the tailoring for the price. If someone asks, I highly recommend this tailor. The business is in a hole in the wall type of place, but don't let that fool you. He's located between the 7-11 and the Pier 1 Imports on Fulton Ave. Tip: He does charge a fee for using your credit card, so if you prefer - pay him in cash. read more

Being only 5'3" I am forced to spend extra money to get jeans/pants altered. They can attach the original hem here and do a great job. I had to take a star away because I was originally quoted for $14, but was charged an extra $1 for using a card. So use cash if you can. read more

Based on reviews, I decided to bring my bridesmaid dress here for alterations. Ignored the very strong cigarette smell and clutter in the shop. I was asked when I wanted to pick it up and when that day came I showed up and my dress wasn't ready. Told the owner I would return on Saturday and lo and behold the store was closed when I returned. Called the owner and he said to wait for him to come open up the store (this was in the afternoon). My dress smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. I was also charged extra for using a credit card. I'm a short gal, so this is my go-to for all my hemming needs. It's pretty close to the mall which makes it convenient if you just bought some items that need alterations. The owner is super friendly and can usually have the items ready same day. It's $10 for slacks and $16 for slacks with lining. The only con is that it's in a rough looking strip mall with few parking spots. However, I've never had any issues, I've always had a place to park and you're in and out very quickly. I brought in my suit and three shirts. He measured one shirt and told me that's good enough for measurement, and tailored other two shirts exactly how it was measured with the first one. I love the suit btw. This was the suit I bought many years ago and I thought I would never wear it again, but it is in the first in line in the closet. Love this guy. Went to get my fiance's pants tailored here. It cost $36 to shorten the length of the pants and make it more fitted. It took him a week to do it and when we came back I was dissatified. It didn't look good on my fiance at all. The man resewed my fiance's pants and it did look better in the end, but for the hassle and price, we could've gotten him another pair of pants. read more

The owner formerly did alterations for Nordstrom, so I've continued using him. Not inexpensive but they do great work. I found a faux leather jacket at Goodwill and fell in love with it! I had been searching for one that would fit me right for 4 years! Needless to say, I was ecstatic that I found this particular one. Unfortunately, the sleeves were too long. I called around and most places wanted $60 and up to shorten them. I came across Royal Alterations on google and saw they had awesome reviews! They only charged me $25 and my jacket was ready in less than 24 hours! I was very happy with the final results. This jacket retails for close to $200 and I only had $45 invested after having it tailored. The gentleman that helped me was very nice. I would've given them 3 stars at most if only they listened to what I wanted. I gave a dress to hem, and pants to hem and to also fix the hole on my pants. They told me to return 2 days later and that was fine with me since I'm not in a rush. 2 days come, no phone call. I call them to check up on my stuff and they asked if I can wait 2 more days. I know I mentioned I wasn't in a rush, but 4 days total to hem a dress and pants is unacceptable. I ended up asking if there's really no way I can pick it up since they told me it'll only take 2 days. Finally they agreed for me to pick it up (such a hassle) and when I did; yes they hemmed everything to my liking. But they forgot to fix the hole. Probably cause they rushed it, I'm not sure.
