This restaurant is farther from the highway than it looks due to Front Royal's small-town vibe and slow roads. It offers a solid North Indian menu. Notably, you're only about an hour a way from an Indian restaurant bonanza in some of the suburbs closer to DC, and this place would be pretty ordinary in those surroundings. However, around here, it is one of few options. Notably it does have vegan-marked offerings. This should not be construed to suggest that they offer health food. I searched for something that wasn't fried but was told that they were out of steamed dumplings (some degree of pre-preparation must be done there). I ended up with a chole bhature, which came with two small puffed breads that didn't impress, but had a great set of accoutrements. I got my dumplings fried in chili sauce. And I added a fresh mint and lime soda, which was excellent. So there is some quality here, for those wanting Indian food and not wanting to head towards DC or Winchester. read more

We're so glad that we ate at Royal Zaika for lunch before our afternoon hike at Shenandoah NPS. It was a good combination of veggies, protein, and carbs which fueled us for the unexpected 16,000 steps later. We started with the pakoda which is a fritters made of chick pea flour (fiber!) and veggies. Then we tried the very unique tandoori momo which is not deep fried but grilled (healthier). It was so good. For our main we had the mild lamb biryani which gave us a lot of protein and carbs! We also had mango lassi which has yogurt and fruits! Our server was attentive. The ambience is nice but a little dark which I think is why myself and a family of 6 asked to be seated by the window. But overall the food is delicious and the service is decent! Came here right after visiting Skyline Drive at Shenandoah National Park and this place was the BEST food I have had in a while. They were very kind and super attentive. The ambience was also very nice and clean and looked well maintained. They have a full bar as well if you are looking to get a nice drink with your meal. We ordered three dishes that were all great and also tried the garlic and onion naan which were phenomenal. Clearly marked vegan options on the menu as well which is always nice! read more

This is my second 5-star review; I could not simply leave a review on DoorDash. I ordered the Palak Paneer, and it is one of the best I've had. I wish it were a bit spicier (I ordered mild), but incredible nonetheless. I live 4+ hours away, but come to Front Royal, VA once in a while for work--my first impression of Royal Zaika makes me want to visit more often! Mutter Paneer is usually my favorite, but it will be hard not to order their Palak Paneer next time, too! read more

Good food, BAD customer service. I've given this place so many chances but they are insanely rude. One time I came in with my family and my brothers family for a light lunch on Main Street. There were 8 of us but we all shared 3 meals and they charged me a large party gratuity (we were never told this gratuity would apply beforehand) After I looked at my bank statement I called and I explained that while we did classify as a larger party, I didn't feel like the party gratuity should apply because we only got water and shared 3 meals AND tipped because we didn't know gratuity would be added. They didn't budge. Yesterday I sent my teenager to order 2 cheese naan and a mango lassi while I was in another shop on Main Street. They gave him 1 cheese naan and 2 mango lassi. We didn't notice this until my child left the restaurant so I sent him back over to get the naan. The guy at the front said that he didn't hear him and if he wanted the naan then he had to pay for it. When my son explained that the food was ordered on my credit card and he no longer had the card, the guy yelled at him and said that he would give him the naan but the next time he saw him, he would need to pay. I remind you that this is a child and it was the restaurants fault that our order was messed up. read more

The food and the service was excellent. As others have noted the waiters are very attentive/friendly and courses were timed perfectly. I would definitely recommend and would come back but... A couple of notes I would have for the owners is the decor really needs updating. As an example, the flowers on the table appear old and dated, and the ceilings/vents were very dirty which made you question whether you were breathing in bacteria/mold or dust. Wow!! What a difference a new owner makes in the food quality. I had the lamb Vindaloo at medium heat and it is the best vindaloo I have ever had. The sauce was at medium heat with nice big chunks of meat. We also ordered the butter chicken momo and it had a nice crisp texture with lots of sauce. We ate lunch here today for the first time. After reading all the reviews on FB and Google, and loving Indian/Nepali food I couldn't wait another day. If i could give 10 stars I would. We had the vegetable pakoda to start and it was obvious we were in for a fantastic meal. My husband ordered the Chicken Curry, mild. I ordered the Goat Shahi Korma, medium. Also an order of garlic Naan. I have no words to describe how delicious these dishes were. The term "epic" might suffice though. You could feel the love the owner and chef put into their food and I cannot wait to go back. I have eaten at quite a few different Indian places, and enjoyed most of what I have had.
