I love stopping for Indian buffet on a road trip, so I was really excited to pull up this place while driving through WV. It is indeed tucked away and a bit difficult to find-- you have to go to what looks like the back of the strip mall, behind some (currently) vacant space to get to it. I'm surprised to read all these reviews saying the food is spicy... that wasn't my experience at all. I thought the food was sadly a little bland, and it was also a bit cold. I did arrive toward the end of the lunch buffet service, so perhaps toward the beginning it might be a bit hotter and fresher. Everyone there was super friendly, and there were clearly some regulars chatting with the staff, which was a super sweet vibe. Ambiance: beautiful wall art and spacious seating. It was quite humid and warm though. Our server was very warm and friendly, she helped us with recommendations and very proactive. Food: we had the samosa chaat, chicken biryani, paneer tikka and tandoori chicken. Tandoori chicken and samosa chat were both delicious, I highly recommend them. We found the Spice Connexion while we were staying at the Tru Hotel. It's a small Indian restaurant that doesn't have the best visibility from the road or the parking lot of the strip mall in which it's located. We were greeted warmly by one of the staff and told to choose our seating. After a few minutes she returned for drinks and appetizer orders. My wife order a mango lassi, and we decided on the fresh palak chaat. I tasted her mango lassi and agreed with her assessment that it was delicious--very creamy and thick. Our chaat consisted of a lightly battered and fried spinach, which we found addicting. It was light and crunchy with a small dollop or two of a seasoned, sweetened yogurt. We liked the dish, but longed for a bit more yogurt to temper its natural dryness. For our entrées, my wife decided on the Baingan Masala and I opted for the vegetable biryani. It's nice that Spice offers a mild, medium or hot spice level. Indian cuisine is all about the spices and they are explained in detail on a wall poster above the buffet unit. Pretty cool. Mt wife ordered mild heat for her dish (stewed eggplant with onions, tomatoes, and spices), and I chose medium. The spiciness was right on. Both dishes were tasty, but nothing we would order again. The only indian food option in Martinsburg in West Virginia or so it looked it. Wait staff is so nice and very service oriented. They were quite busy but very attentive to requests. The ambiance is calm, nice. The food was great, slightly different from other indian restaurants we are used to but it was great. So totally deserves a five star review. read more

Solid Indian food. Great service and very accommodating. We asked if they could make chili naan which isn't on the menu and they made a delicious chili naan for us. Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken had a bit too strong of a tomato flavor and gave a spaghettios reminder. Butter chicken actually had less of the tomato flavor pop out which is what i went with. Brother had chicken Kurma and that was pretty good. Would've liked it a bit creamier. The taste of the food was great. I got butter chicken a and my wife got the buffett. She loved the buffett and I loved the butter chicken. My only complaint for the food was the quantity. There really wasn't much chicken in the butter chicken. Service is weird. Seat yourself is awkward, especially in a crowded restaurant when your only 2 people and your only options are 6+ tables, while same of the 4 seaters had extra chairs pulled up to them. This is the best place to eat in Martinsburg and doesn't get the praise it deserves! Authentic spices, depth of flavor, perfect portions and you cannot beat the hot and creamy tea. The Friday buffet is a wonderful way to try an array of dishes here and the handmade sauces really accentuate each plate. The spices were on point as was the heat. It brought the eye and forehead sweats, but wasn't too intense. The chicken tikki masala was one of the best I've had in a while. The naan had great garlic flavor and the chickpeas were very complimentary to the palate. Overall, wonderful dining experience and the staff had everything packed and ready to go correctly when I arrived. Very clean and open setting for dining in as well with ample parking. En Route to Tennessee from Pennsylvania we popped in here for lunch. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff off the bat. We decided to order some Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Biryani, and some Lamb Kebab from the Tandoori. The Chicken Tikka Masala was solid, but I would have preferred a better sauce to chicken ratio. It made the dish seem like there was less chicken than there should have been. The flavor was on point though. The Lamb Biryani was exactly what a Biryani should be. The flavors blended excellently and it tasted as though the rice had been held warm with all those aromatics and spices all day long. Great dish. The Lamb Kebab was the star here though. Cooked absolutely perfectly with a little pink still in the middle and SO much flavor. The meat was very tender and after a few times chewing just began to melt in your mouth. I placed a pick up order. The staff was friendly. I ordered the lamb biryani, vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala with with rice and garlic naan. First, the prices online are not correct. Everything I ordered was $1-$3.50 more than what I saw online. I was told my food would take 45 minutes but it was ready about 10 minutes early. They do not have menus in the restaurant that have accurate prices so I would call. The food was fresh. I give the vegetable samosa a 8/10 it was fresh, well seasoned and crispy. It came with a green and red sauce and they were both good. The lamb biryani was underwhelming and under seasoned. The pieces of lamb inside was ok. It was surprisingly on the bland side. I was disappointed because it's what I wanted the most. I think the biryani came with a white sauce. I wasn't a fan. It wasn't flavorful or seasoned. The garlic naan was a 10/10! Just amazing on every level! The white rice was good. The chicken tikka masala was a 7/10. It was on the sweet side but the spiciness balanced it out. It was more sauce than chicken but it was good. Overall this place is ok. I would order the samosas and garlic naan again. I think it is better than the Indian food in Hagerstown. I was driving through town and desiring Indian food, so I called in an order ahead using an online menu. The person who answered the phone was very friendly and helpful. (I was unable to order online because there was no field for a required billing zip code? Hopefully this will be addressed in the future.) When I arrived, I found the small, unassuming restaurant on the side of a strip mall, and several people were dining inside, a testament to its quality and popularity. I skimmed over a large decorative image about spices while the friendly host went to retrieve my bags. Everything was safely packaged in sealed containers and labeled for my continued journey. When my partner and I unpacked our food, we were thrilled. I had ordered dal makhani, saag paneer, sweet potato curry, chana masala, and butter chicken with basmati rice. We scooped a little of each onto our plates and refrigerated the rest for several later meals. The dishes were colorful, aromatic, flavorful, and filling, as good Indian food should be. I heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Indian food or is looking to try it. [Coronavirus review] There are a lot of socially distant places to engage in approved recreational activities in Western Maryland and West Virginia. However, Harpers Ferry is closed and there aren't a lot of other places to eat in that general area as that is the main tourist town. Thus, I roamed farther into WV than I otherwise would have to find this still-operating Indian place. The restaurant was receded a bit back from the rest of the shopping center it inhabits. They were quick, yet thorough in the way they did takeout, with the containers wrapped in saran wrap and labeled with what was inside, including the extra spicy designation on my lentils. It was a pretty standard Indian menu; I tried their unusual "Beatles naan" with coconut and cheese (don't know why it's called that) for variety. I wasn't particularly impressed by it; I'm not a huge coconut person and no other flavor came through strongly. The dal looked like a bit of a small container for my liking, but I must admit that when combined with the ample rice and bread, I was satisfied without even touching my appetizer. I'm always happy for the option for "extra spicy", which their website had a box for, and the dal was noticeably full of chili but not lacking in other flavors, and with allergies and viruses going around now is a good time to clear out one's sinuses. We decided to try Spice Connexion on a whim. It's a small restaurant that is located in something akin to an industrial park. We arrived and there was only one other table with guests. When we left, all but one two-person table was full. The service was a little slow. There were only two people working the tables and one girl was new. Nevertheless, they were trying to get people seated, orders taken, and waters delivered as quickly as possible. Both servers were very friendly and worked well under the circumstances. There were two very large parties of 9+ people, who walked in and made things very loud and crowded. We were so glad to be eating by the time these parties showed up. Now...the food. Pretty tasty for being in WVa. We had the vegetable fritters, garlic naan, roti, paneer tikka masala and chicken vindaloo. Ever was delicious. We weren't used to eating our meals from a bowl of rice. We're used to getting separate plates but. So it was unusual but no big deal. The food was flavorful. Not overly spicy either. We would have enjoyed the restaurant more if the one large party had contained their five children. One thing that impressed us was the fact that lots of people were coming to the restaurant to eat or pick-up to-go orders. It's a small restaurant and it was good to see it busy. read more

My visit here was definitely peculiar.. The food for me was definitely a 10/10 and was very delicious. (I ordered the Butter Chicken) However, there are some things I think that need to be said. To start off, the wait was very long, and we ended up getting someone else's food on accident, and we were told there was something wrong in the kitchen. I'm not sure as to what was happening in the kitchen, but oh well. Also, we had a very strange waiter. He was too busy talking to his family at another table, then waiting on anyone. Considering he was the only waiter, it made our wait even longer. He also, after waiting forever to get water refills, gave us lukewarm water with no ice. Another thing, he very creepily greeted us and then told us very strangely in a creepy voice on how much he loved the water as if something was in it.. There was also cans of soda that would be cracked open and poured, so no fountain machine i'm guessing. The feeling of the place in the inside is just very strange. Not only was the waiter creeping us out, but it seemed as if the photos of people on the wall were all staring at you as you eat. Now I know why more people were getting takeout than eating in. The food at spice connexion is fantastic, the service was very nice, and, as someone who enjoys food on the spicier side of things, I found that the "extra spicy" level was tasty as you can ask them not to hold back :) We started out with the chai masala tea. It was served piping hot and unsweetened (so you could provide your own level of sweetness). You get a free refill as well, which was nice. For the entrees, my husband got the lamb rogan Josh, and I got the lamb shaukeen. Both were very tasty and a great portion size. I thoroughly enjoyed the vegetables that came in the lamb shaukeen, and the lamb in both dishes was extremely tender. We also got a side order of the beatles naan, which was delightfully light and sweet. It paired super well with the spicy food, and I would highly recommend if you like coconut. We ended the meal with the rice pudding. It was really refreshing and also lightly sweet, and was the perfect way to end the meal. We will be back to try other dishes! read more

I went to Spice Connecion for lunch today. It was my first visit and after fasting overnight for bloodwork l was really hungry and shaky. Upon entering l was greeted by a large sign that said seat yourself. Ok... l was solo and every 2 person and 4 person table was taken or still covered with plates from earlier diners. There was a man at the register which was at the farthest corner from the front door. He was taking payments. The female server saw me walk in but that was all the interaction l had with anyone there. I did not even receive a nod of a head to acknowledge my existence. I sat down at the only table available, a table for 6. I felt quite awkward but waited patiently. I was pleased to see the lunch buffet which would give me the opportunity to sample a few items from their menu. After 10 minutes a woman came in and the male employee acknowledged her and started to clean the table near him as she had a party of several women meeting her. I would have gladly taken a small table if he had cleaned one, and then her party could have had the seats at the table l was waiting patiently at. He looked in my direction but proceeded to seat her and not acknowledge me. It was now 15 minutes and l was getting dizzy from low blood glucose. My desire to have Indian cuisine had left along with the female server who must have gone into the kitchen. I stood up, picked up my purse and left. If this is how single diners are treated l will certainly not return or bring back any members of my family. I have been in the service industry for many years and you always acknowledge your guests. They are what keeps your business running. The food may be wonderful, but l have no way of knowing. I left one star because l could not post my review without doing so. On the plus side l found a great Thai restaurant in the same plaza and was promptly greeted and served. Lunch was delicious! read more

You'll walk out feeling full and ... meh. It seemed that the buffet depends heavily on salt instead of more authentic Indian spices. While the flavor wasn't intrinsically bad it also wasn't special on any level. If you're in Martinsburg and you just must have Indian, this is fine. read more

Wow! This small town restaurant's food (at least the tadka daal and perfectly cooked and seasoned rice I ordered) rivals the best Indian restaurants in Northern Virginia. The flavors were fresh and delicious. I ordered my dish spicy, and excellent fresh chilies were harmonized with lentils When I saw the high Yelp reviews, I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is on the side of a shopping center and well worth looking for. The simple decor is made up for by the restaurant's great energy. WE FOUND IT! Ok so to find this restaurant you have to go to Cafe Del Sol parking area and follow the building down the left side towards the alley! Now that that's out of the way....my wife and I decided to try this place out, boy are we glad we did! The server was attentive, easy going, and friendly. The place has authentic decor and music. The best Indian restaurant in driving distance. Great Indian food at a great price. The Butter Chicken was creamy and full of flavor. The Chicken Saag was creamy with a subtle but flavorful taste. The chicken for both meals was fork tender and cooked to perfection. The Mango Lassi was smooth and rich without being too strong. However it was very mild on spice if you're used to that. The Strawberry Lassi was just the same. Both very good. The Garlic Naan was served hot and fresh. It was soft with a subtle crust. Plenty of fresh garlic and some parsley a perfect blend for an Indian classic. The design, decorations and music were a perfect fit.
