I've been going to this cleaner for over 20 years, and now that I've relocated to LA, i miss them! The previous complaints about permanent ink- it's inside the collar where cleaners ALWAYS put your name so they can sort it! They have always come through for me and helped me with sewing buttons, fixing tears and always providing well pressed, always clean shirts. We have been using Royale Cleaners for 16 years now. First found them when we bought a house in the College Park neighborhood right around the corner. We moved 11 years ago, but we still drive the 4 miles back to Pleasant Hill for our dry cleaning. Certainly, there must be nearly a dozen dry cleaners along that route, but as they say: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." My parents were visiting from out of town before leaving for a cruise. My dad bought a suit but needed some alterations before leaving in 3 days. I searched yelp and sent a message to a few businesses. Ja at Royale Cleaners responded very quickly and said she'd be able to get it done in time and for a reasonable price. Other businesses either didn't get back to me, charged more, or were too busy to complete the alteration within the requested time. I went in on a Monday with an item that was stained. The woman grabbed my blouse while she was talking to someone on the phone. I finally got her attention when she hung up, then she quickly rung up my item. I asked if she wanted to mark (with tape) the area where stain was. She grabbed the item away from me and said no we check everything, then gave me the receipt. Worst part, my one item won't be ready until Saturday. 5 days to clean 1 item? Horrible. Just horrible. She will make your pants slim even if it's baggy, cut it as short as you want, whatever you like. She will even recommend what she think will look best. This place is horrid! The woman wrote my name in permanent ink on my business shirts. She also misplaced three items and said she would find them by the next day. I had to go back the following day only to find that there were NEW STAINS on these shirts. That is, one's that were not there when I dropped them off! The husband and wife team are just RUDE. A few weeks ago, I took a pair of slacks to have hemmed/shortened. I picked them up, tried them on and they're too long. OK mistakes happen. So I tried the place again and took another pair of slacks to have hemmed, these are too short. It's like what the hell can't you get it right? So I ask the wife why did you remove the store tag and the extra button for the pants. She looked at me like I was crazy to ask for the extra button. She looked in a box and grabbed and black button and said here, I said no, that's not the button. I guess speaking English is not in the norm now a days. read more

I recently took 4 pairs of dress pants, 1 pair of jeans and 1 dress here for alterations / tailoring. I am a bit on the curvy side, so the waist on my pants is always too big for me. All of the items were altered by the in-house tailor there and she is wonderful--friendly, fast, good quality work and very affordable. I called some local tailors and they quoted me $18-25+ to take in the waist. The tailor here did the same alterations for $13(regular pants)-$16(jeans). I was very pleased with the outcome and dropped off 3 more pairs of pants the following week! Overall I will be coming here again, and I highly recommend the tailor (at least for taking in the waist on pants/dresses, can't speak for the fancier tailoring/alterations). I took off one star because she forgot to attach the belt loop on the pair of jeans that were altered, but this is a minor quibble given that the jeans finally fit (woo-hoo!). Before you go, I would recommend calling to make sure that the tailor is in. No appointment is necessary, but she does sometimes leave before the dry cleaner closes during the week. read more

Just three days before my friend's wedding reception, I still needed a dress to wear! Sun Valley Mall was nearby and I picked one up. Being on the petite side, I found the dress too long in the torso/chest area. The dress needed to be cinched up at the top. Fortunately Royale Cleaners was just across the mall and they were more than happy to make the needed alterations in such a short time span. I actually go to pick up the dress the very next day! The seamstress was on location and very helpful! Her attention to detail was great! The dress fit so much better on me and I was very happy with the alterations! Contrary to what another has posted this place went above and beyond in getting and keeping my business. I had some work uniforms that needed some attention. I knew that on Saturday they closed at 6pm and did my best to get their before then, but hit traffic and just couldn't make it. Knowing it was nearly 6:30 I still took a chance they may be around and drove up to the store. Despite the gal getting ready to go home for the night, when she saw me she unlocked the door and let me on in happily accepting my business with a smile. She took my order and informed when they would be ready for pick up, and I left happy knowing that I was able to drop off my stuff and have it done. I go to DVC but live in Berkeley. I decided to try this cleaner due to the good revues and the fact that I don't have to fight for parking like in Berkeley. There was plenty of parking here which is always good. However... Kind of little, a bit dingy and had that weird dry cleaning mustiness to it. But I don't think I've ever gone to a dry cleaner that wasn't like that. I came in and the woman shouted from the back that she was coming but I had to wait a bit. She wasn't super polite but not mean just very direct and firm. She asked if there were any stains on my clothes and I showed her the two little marks on one of my shirts. She asked if it was fresh and I told her its been there for a week or so because I couldn't get in earlier. She was very stern telling me that if I didn't get the shirt in immediately after that happened it was unlikely they would get the stains out at all. It cost $4 for shirt to be laundered and $6 for it to be dry cleaned, so my total was $14, a few dollars more than the previous dry cleaners I've used in Berkeley. The good thing is that I dropped my stuff off at about noon on Tuesday and was able to pick it up around11am on Thursday, whereas my old cleaners made me wait almost a week. The cashier was much nicer the day I came to pick things up though as she was ringing me up she was simultaneously helping the customer who walked in behind rather than making him wait. I didn't really appreciate this at all as it was confusing and a little bit annoying. My shirts were cleaned nicely and it seems the stains are actually gone. read more

Bait & Switch - Scammer.... Called and asked how much to wash & press a shirt; I was told by the gentleman it was $1.95 a piece ( I was accustom to paying $1.50 @ Parkway Cleaners) but since my move, this place was more convenient. When I dropped off 14 dress shirts to the same gentleman (owner) and asked again how much to wash & press with light starch; again he said $1.95, so I gave him my 14 shirts and one Sports Coat. When I went to pick-up my shirts, the owner's wife told me that my 2X dress shirts could not be pressed in their machine and had to be hand-pressed, which was $5.00 per shirt. She said since I was not informed they would only charge me $4.00 per shirt (more than DOUBLE what I was quoted). I asked why they did not call me to inform me of the price change (they use your phone # as your customer ID#) she had NO answer. STAY AWAY - FAR FAR AWAY FROM THESE LYING SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!
