I originally started coming here when I was in high school some time ago. I would order the pineapple fried rice and then head to SJB High School right down the street to hang out with friends that went there. I remember the pineapple fried rice being pretty good. I haven't tried it again after not coming here for ~10+ years so it's on my list of food to try again. I went on Yelp to double check that this place was still open, and sure enough, it was. When I went here recently, I only had the pad see ew. I ordered online through the Yelp app. The process was super easy and seamless. I was able to pay for the food through the app as well so that made the pick up process quick and painless. Confirmation that my order went through was fast and they gave an estimated pick up time. I walked into the restaurant and there wasn' anyone there on a Sunday afternoon. The guy behind the counter greeted me right away and he was very friendly. The food was ready for me to pick up after 10 mins. Overall I was very pleased with the taste of the pad see ew. My main concern was that it was going to be dry, but to my delight, it wasn't at all. This place has great lunch deals (under $7) with a pretty good portion size - I am stuffed! Each lunch special comes with a small cup of soup (great broth), a generous serving of fried wontons, and white rice. I had the chicken pad thai which was really good! I started a review of this place over a month ago and never finished it. I've since returned to this place 3 times. I've been coming to Royal's for years now..I discovered it when driving around with my sis and said "Let's find the diveyest of dives and try it out since they're usually the best." Next thing you know, I looked into the shopping center on the corner of Rosecrans and Bellflower and saw a yellow sign that read Thai Food. The windows were tinted dark and a neon "Open" sign was lit. Normally, tinted windows are a HUGE no no for me at a restaurant, but it made me curious all the same. Inside, we were greeted by the owner and presumably his family. There are only about 6 booths and a long table down the center of the dining area so call ahead to reserve a table in just in case. Sure, some of the booths have duct tape covering tears in the vinyl, but it's fine. The walls are covered with old photographs of regular customers..a tradition which died shortly prior to my discovering this place. They usually have cheesy decor depending on the holiday on hand..it's as shopping center dive as you can get, but it's sweet all the same. The food there is delicious. I've never had anything there that wasn't delicious, and I've pretty much had it all..with the exception of seafood dishes (bleh@seafood!!!!), though with that said, I've never heard my parents complain about it when I've ordered for them. The only complaint actually is the fact that their Pineapple Rice only has 2 [large] shrimp in it..easily rectifiable by just asking them to put more shrimp in it..they didn't even charge me extra. I've had everything from veggie stir-fry, flaming pot soups, various curries, pork over fresh cabbage (FANTASTIC MIND YOU)..their portions are worthy of sharing, and their prices are very affordable. They don't offer beers and their soda's are canned sodas (which they bring to you with a glass full of ice). Your water cup will never go empty and it's always service with a smile. I am so in love with this place and want them to never go away (though the owner confessed that business has been very slow lately)..I'd treat anyone wanting to try this place to lunch since I'm sure they'd be fans forever after trying this place. If you want to give it a go, they have unbeatable lunch specials Mon-Sun for $6.45 from 11am-3pm. This includes soup or salad, steamed rice, 2 large fried won-tons with their sweet sauce reduction drizzled over them, and your choice of 18 entres..all made to order. The portions are BIG though...I always get two meals out of one lunch special. Also, I suggest the soup (non-vegetarian, sorry!), though the salad is "okay", the soup is just amazing, especially when you see how simple it is. How they pack that much flavor into a clear broth that literally looks like water, is beyond me! If you want appetizers, my non vegetarian pick is definitely the Chicken Wings..not your average wings, that's for sure. As for my vegetarian pick, that would be ummm..damn, though they technically only offer 4 of them, the 3 that I've tried are yummy as f*ck. (I've yet to try Mee Krob Delight) So yeah, you have to try this place..it's a definite gem..especially for me to give it 5 stars when they don't even offer alcohol and have canned sodas!!! This is a hole in the wall. But I LOVE holes in the walls. In my opinion a great food place doesn't waste a whole lot of time, energy and money in decor, and instead focuses on the authenticity of the meal. I go here on lunch break. I wish there was a location near my house because I would love to get takeout for dinner sometime. It is really small, and gets SUPER busy at lunch time. Those who plan on dining in should get there before noon, when the lunch crowd is at its peak. I always order the Pad Woon Sen with chicken (glass noodles and stir fried vegetables) and scarf it down when it comes to the table. Orders always come out speedy and with a smile. On a rainy day, we were looking for a local Thai place that would deliver...turns out even though THIS Thai place says it will deliver within 3 miles of it's location they didn't want to come out to Norwalk. Not sure why, whether it was the rain or what. They just said "too far" when we asked. We are a bit under 2 miles from them...no matter, we decided to go pick it up just to see what we were missing. Not much, it turns out. Typical AVERAGE Thai place (this from a region littered with them) and we eat Thai food probably once a week. Nothing glaringly wrong, it's a smallish restaurant with a few neat tables. They don't do Thai Spring Rolls (a favorite) but we tried the yellow chicken curry, the shrimp Pad Thai and the green curry to get an idea. The curries were only average with the yellow being slightly disappointing. Only shaved pieces of chicken and potato, no carrots which we are used to in our yellow curry. The green curry was slightly better I think. The Pad Thai was a bit on the oily side (even for Pad Thai) but was tasty. All in all, for average Thai food you won't be disappointed. If you want something really special, head into Downey for Narai Thai off Firestone. I'm starting to appreciate them more and more. :) read more

This is one of those small almost hole in a wall type of places. The owner (John) must have been here since time began - he is very friendly and polite. There are just a few tables for dine-in so it might be best to call ahead. I frequently get take out from her, and they do catering quite well (no delivery though). I really enjoy the PAD THAI, Pad woon Sen (glass noodles with veggies & shrimp or meat), Pad See Ew (thick or wide rice noodle with gravy and choice of meat). They serve this salad that has fresh calamari & Shrimp (I think they have it on the menu as Grilled shrimp salad). That has a kick - ass dressing that is just so up there with the lime/fish sauce flavor that i just want to drink it up! The yellow curry is also very good and uses almost all chicken breast. They have a wrapped shrimp appetizer that is also very good and is served with regular Ma Ploe (chili) sweet sauce. Also good Tom Yoong soup ( you can try chicken or shrimp). Since it's small, the wait staff is attentive enough without being too aloof ( as is common with Asian restaurants) or gratingly obsequious (as most "Caucasian" style places are). Ordered last night and I was not impressed at all. I make much better Thai food at home. I would have too, but I was lazy from a long day. The Pad Thai was the least like Pad Thai I have ever had. You literally could boil spaghetti, saute some onions, mix it with a spoon full of peanut butter and it would taste more like Pad Thai than what I had last night. The red curry was like water and had almost zero curry flavor to it. They just put a bunch of basil in it. There was two tiny slivers of chicken in it. Otherwise it was like a bamboo shoot soup. The worst part is, it looked like they microwaved it in the Styrofoam cup it came in. When you microwave Styrofoam it distorts the inside and breaks down. That is exactly how it looked. Last but not least, we got the dinner specials in which the man fairly rudely pushed on me to order over the phone. There was no joke, two fork fulls of salad in it. That is right, I ate the salad it came with in two modest bites. The wantons were crazy soggy and just covered in grease. To top it off the guy says, "It will be ready in ten minutes." I showed up in twenty minutes and still had to wait ten. I think it was a ploy to make me think they were making fresh curry when they were just microwaving it. With how close their kitchen is to the register, I would have smelled them cooking fresh curry. Curry is very aromatic when you cook it fresh. Good local thai food you can't go wrong here and it won't break the bank being so close to my job I order every other pay day I usually get the shrimp pad thai or the shrimp pad see ew buy today decided to try the yellow pineapple curry with coconut milk and shrimp and it was spicy but not to spicy and I must say it was delicious both sweet and spicy. Dont be fooled by the '..lunch specials starting @ $5.95..'; that applies to only 2 dishes and (unless you're a vegetarian) you'll probably end up dropping another dollar or two to add meat. They lost a star; I cant lie to y'all. I went once and I saw a baby roach crawling on the counter. Baby roaches mean, parent roaches and even though the food is good (and I am known to frequent hole-in-the-wall spots with a 'B' rating), I cant rock with the visible vermin. I think I've had my last meal here. The people working there are so sweet, but the food just isn't cutting it anymore. I got the pad-see-ew with pork yesterday and I basically ate everything but the pork. It was chewy and the broccoli was overcooked. We usually call in and order ahead, and when if the timing is right, we can eat and leave in 20 minutes (our lunch period is only 30 minutes). We usually go to Cancoon Thai every Friday, but they were on vacation, so we decided to try this place. Simply put, Cancoon Thai is much more delicious and friendly place to enjoy Thai food. read more

Finally tried this place nearby my house and am so glad to find another walking distance place!!! AMBIANCE This is a divey joint. They don't even turn on the lights for energy conserving purposes I imagine as it was pretty darn dark. But whatever, the tables were not sticky, the place looked clean, furniture including booths were in fine shape; no chip dishes, bent utensils....all good! FOOD I'm lame in that I almost always order the same dishes at every Thai restaurant, at least that minimizes the variables and I can honestly compare! Pineapple Fried Rice: 5/5 - Ok, I have to start off with this as I love the idea of pineapples with food but have never really found a place that makes it really well...but this place makes the BEST pineapple fried rice IMHO. Most places make their PFR wayyyyyy too oily. Some have made it too sweet, some too salty, but here, it was JUST RIGHT! Pad See Eww: 3.5 - 4/5 This dish was average, not exceptionally better, just like all other pad see wee dish I've tried everywhere. Therefore, taste-wise it's a 3.5. But I want to give it a 4 for it being not nearly as oily as many other pad see www. (I don't like anything really oily). Chicken Curry with what looks like Ramen: 3.5/5 - the hubby ordered this dish as he loves all things curry and it was average as well. I liked that it wasn't too salty. Though I found this dish to be the least fresh tasting dish of the 3. The other two, especially the PFR tasted very fresh. SERVICE Friendly and prompt service. So I payed 10$ for literally a small portion of chicken fried rice. For one the rice was plain and dry. The chicken was bland as hell and super dry, big uneven chunks. The whole dish was not worth what I spent at all. I'm highly disappointed. Never will eat at this place again read more

My fiance and I just had lunch at Royal's Taste Thai Restaurant, and it was delicious. He has been going there for their noodle soup, but this was my first time there. He had his usual, and I had the Sweet and Sour Pork Lunch Special. I was surprised at how much food there was. It was almost more than I could eat, The flavors were so good and well-rounded. I am going to take a group of my friends there for lunch as soon as I can. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone look for great Thai food and wonderful service. read more

I found this place lacking. I ordered seafood soup, expecting it to contain SEAFOOD, however the main ingredient in this soup was mushroom. If I had wanted mushroom to be the main food i would have ordered mushroom soup. The servers or people here did not speak English so it was hard to communicate. the Thai tea drink that I ordered with boba was tasteless considering it was $4.00 I would have hoped that it tasted good. The service is friendly and prompt But the quality of the food is not the best, I been here a few times and every time is a little different, The lemon grass soup with noodles is ok, The chicken cashew is alright and the Kung pao chicken is a little heavy on sauce, Prices are decent for what you get, Tai ice tea with boba is terrible, the boba all sticks together and is hard to drink along with your tea, the tea itself is watered down badly. 3% credit card use IS RIDICULOUS.
