An AMAZING place. Easy to pass by as its hidden in a small strip mall, but its obvious they are popular with the locals. We found them by chance and are we glad! Excellent food. If we lived closer (300 miles away) we'd stop there often. Very friendly from the time you enter until the time you leave. Its obvious they care about you as a customer. We had the catfish and salmon, both excellent choices, but the real show-stopper was the oxtail. They ran out on the day we were there so they packed some up to take home with us the next day! My partner and I wanted to try this restaurant after viewing Monticello. We went in cautious optimistic and left highly satisfied. The food came out hot and fresh. My burger patty was huge and well seasoned. I don't think I've ever eaten a burger as large and juicy as the one at royalty eats. The owner sure does know how to make a bomb burger. Say yes to everything that usually goes on the burger, it's there for a reason. The special for the day was Caribbean food including a jerk chicken dish. I heard it was really good and filling. Walked in informed the waitress that I have not been here before and need a second to look at the menu she said OK walked away for a second and then came back it was cold so I needed to grab some tissue so I asked her if they had a bathroom she looked me up and down and asked me if I was ordering food ....I wanted to say what do you think I'm in here for just to use the bathroom? This is something I probably could have made at home myself but the customer service makes me want to keep supporting their business. I was really expecting to love this place and just felt kind of disappointed. We ordered the shrimp po boy with fries and the steak and cheese with fries and a side of Mac. The macaroni was super greasy but didn't have much flavor and this was a theme with all of the food we had. The steak and cheese was pretty much the same deal, lots of grease without any seasoning which was really surprising. And a ton of skinny fries on the side. The poboy was *huge* and flavorful on a crispy, chewy roll (just right). Having both fish & shrimp was a nice mix and the light, seasoned batter complemented them both. Onion rings were puffy, crispy with super soft onion inside. And the mac & cheese is the real deal homemade style & even had extra melted cheddar on top. Second - the service. We ordered via Grubhub. But first we called RE with some confirming questions. Then we ordered. Then we got a call from RE to make sure our order was correct. Very helpful and friendly! The order arrived soon after, everything was correct & hot!! And each item had been wrapped & sealed with a sticker and the whole order fit into one bag which was also sealed tightly shut. We've been looking for a place in Charlottesville that has great eats like you see on tv; like Food Network-type meals. Royalty Eats is that place. The menu is simple but has a great variety, and while I wanted to try the salmon or crab cakes, I opted for the Fish and Shrimp Po Boy with Boom Boom sauce. It was spectacular! Everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. We spoke to the owner who told us that every sauce and every meal is homemade and you can taste it! Including the batter on the onion rings, they are the best onion rings I've ever had! I will definitely return to try more things on the menu because I can tell that every meal they make will be flavorful and beautifully executed. It has the feel of a soul food diner, with burgers, poboys, fish, wings, mac and cheese, and all the fixins. Wow. This is a hidden gem! The crab cakes were amazing and for the price it might've been the best I've ever had. Thick chunks of crab and a great portion. We also got the seafood platter which was a ton of awesome seafood including fish that were fried in the most unique batter I've ever had. It was subtly spicy but not overpowering and memorably good. Our ordering experience was a little frustrating at first. The online ordering menu was not aligned to the paper brochure at the store or PDF-style menu, and it was somewhat confusing how things worked. We also tried to call on two separate occasions to place our order, but both times no one picked up. We also almost didn't get our order in because they were unexpectedly closing 2h early than what was stated. However, they did respond on chat when it was prompted and completely addressed our grievances when we arrived. They were incredibly accommodating to our follow on requests, and even gave us a couple extra sides and the cook herself brought out the meals for curbside pickup, which was very nice. The mains (crabcake sandwiches, salmon teriyaki, shrimp/grits) were all amazing and tasted so genuine, and the sides (collard greens/mac&cheese) were also superb. As a result, we would definitely order from this place again. We suspect COVID and how busy they can get may have affected operations. Ordered dinner from here tonight. First time trying them out and ordered takeout from Ubereats. We shared a cheeseburger, the fried chicken, the flavored chicken wings, a double loaded baked potato and coleslaw, yams and Mac and cheese as sides and everything was WONDERFUL! The fried chicken (and wings) were very well seasoned also fresh fried and hot and juicy inside. The cheeseburger was also hot and juicy and the baked potato COVERED with steak was also amazing and enough food for a couple of meals .
