    Seafood PoBoy Sandwich

My husband and I l loved this place! We found it by searching "good food" on Google, so we didn't really know what to expect, but we thought the food looked delicious in pictures. VERY generous portions and affordable prices. I got the seafood po boy, and my husband got the Gouda & shrimp burger. The food tasted like it was made with love. I would definitely come back. Next time I am getting the double stuffed potato.

Check out Royalty Eats for great food from great people! I ordered the royalty / angus burger for my first visit after hearing about how delicious it is and I definitely wasn't disappointed. My burger patty was huge and well seasoned. I don't think I've ever eaten a burger as large and juicy as the one at royalty eats. The owner sure does know how to make a bomb burger. Say yes to everything that usually goes on the burger, it's there for a reason. The special for the day was Caribbean food including a jerk chicken dish. I heard it was really good and filling. Looking forward to visiting again in the future to try some of their seafood menu items!

Walked in informed the waitress that I have not been here before and need a second to look at the menu she said OK walked away for a second and then came back it was cold so I needed to grab some tissue so I asked her if they had a bathroom she looked me up and down and asked me if I was ordering food ....I wanted to say what do you think I'm in here for just to use the bathroom? Butttt I didn't lol anyway she end up letting me but It was just real quiet and It seemed like everybody was watching me walk to the bathroom... weird but, proceeding.... I came out and the owner I believe she was offered me to sit because they make the food fresh, she asked me what brought me in (because I'm naturally quiet I came in alone) so I told her Yelp brought me in..... she then offered me a slice of sweet potato cornbread on the house... that cornbread was probably the best cornbread I ever had lol FACTS the chicken was fresh, the macaroni and cheese perfect 10/10 but! the collard greens were maddddd salty. Couldn't eat them. But 4 stars for the owner and the food if I could give 4 1/2 I would've. $12.35 great price from Cali Girl It was helllla good! I'll be back.

If you arrived late or near closing time, I suggest you come around lunch time. Leaving a negative review because you couldn't or wouldn't eat here is problematic to places that work hard to put out a quality product. 2. People who don't enjoy chicken. Yes, people have told me they don't like Brown's because they don't eat meat. Great. 3. People disgusted with its location. Yes, it's in a gas station. That is part of this location's appeal; it's a genuine hole in the wall. The food tastes great and they wouldn't be allowed to operate if they were dirty, which, in my opinion, they aren't. 4. People irritated at how a manager is speaking to a customer. I get it, this can irritate me, too. But 1 star? Get out of town. I've been going here for years, and the old and new management has been nothing but kind to the people I've seen order. This, along with Wayside Chicken and Mel's Cafe, is some of the absolute best fried chicken in Charlottesville. Best of all, it's affordable! Please support this place, spread the word, and learn what the hype it all about.

I tried the Babyback Ribs and Fried Chicken Soul Sandwiches. The Babyback Ribs were really good. The ribs are taken off the bone for the soul sandwich and plated on slices of potato rolls. The Fried Chicken was good but not the best I've had in Charlottesville. I would have liked the outside to be crispier. The cornbread that comes with the order was also good. It was not traditional cornbread-- it tasted like carrot cake corn bread. The Mac and Cheese was a little too overcooked for my liking. However, for the meat sandwich and two sides were a large portion and cost 12 dollars which was awesome. Overall, Soul Food Joint is a charming locally owned soul food place downtown. It wasn't the best fried chicken or barbecue that I've had in Charlottesville, however the food was good and the portions were great for the price.

Server (Brianna) started out good, fairly attentive until I got my food. After I got my food I got one cursory "all good?" and that was it until I got the bill. Anyway, on to the food: ordered two meat plate (brisket and pulled pork) with fries and coles slaw. Fries were the highlight of the meal. Hot, crispy, seasoned...awesome. Cole slaw was good....but it was super tangy (vinegary) for my taste. Don't get it wrong, it was good, just hard to eat all of it thanks to the tang. On to the meat. Got a pretty good sized pile of pulled pork and a couple slices of brisket. Both meats were lukewarm at best. Pork was dry (thank goodness for the NC vinegar sauce). The brisket made up for the porks dryness, it was extra greasy and extra fatty. Like, for real, do you think people are going to eat the fat layer between the lean point meat and the fatty upper meat? Yeah, not me. But since the brisket was also lukewarm (more like lukecold) it really didn't make a difference. I did think the Vision BBQ sauce tasted pretty good. If Brianna would have come back by after I got my meal I would have sent it back....and probably would have just left without worrying over a replacement, or a comp, or anything. Secondary issue: went to the mens room. It was just nasty. You get once shot to make an impression, and this one was not good. Would not/will not repeat.
