Royce has done our engagement photos (he accommodated a "destination shoot" in Yosemite), wedding photos, family photos with our one-year old, and newborn photos of our second baby during COVID with all precautions taken. They really take their time to craft a result that they can take pride in. One thing that stood out about the photos was how they captured such genuine expressions from everyone, which I believe they were able to do because they clearly cared about getting to know us and our community, and they have a presence that makes you feel engaged and comfortable. Even though they may have been technically challenging (the sun behind our ceremony was so bright that all the guests had on sunglasses), you'd never know it from how well lit all the photos are. We first contacted Blurred Line after seeing their work on Instagram. The quality and style of their images stood out in a crowd of wedding photographers. My husband and I could not recommend Royce enough for wedding photography. We were married in October and have loved reliving our day though the photographs. I have known him for over a decade and he has photographed several weddings and special events for our family. I had no doubt that we would use him as our wedding photographer. This is a little bit overdue, my daughter and her husband, Amanda & Ruben had a wonderful ceremony at Saratoga Springs, Royce went above and beyond and did a fabulous job photographing everything and everyone! Royce and his crew were simply amazing. He came to the rehearsal dinner the night before to meet everyone and talk with the groom for the logistics of the big day. My husband Alex and I got married in May 2019 and the two things we cared most about were the venue and photographer. We were blown away by Royce and Ann's services. They were extremely flexible, professional, and responsive from the moment we reached out to ask for a consultation meeting/quote. They are based out of Santa Cruz (we live in San Jose), and we traded-off meeting in Los Gatos for the initial consultation and San Jose for a practice shoot to go over poses and tips for making wedding day pictures easy and comfortable. The pictures from our practice shoot came out wonderfully, all our friends and family were saying we must have spent a fortune on the location - nope, just a coffee shop and talented photographer! Leading up to the wedding was such a breeze with Royce and Ann, and they came prepared to ask for details that we hadn't even thought of (sun patterns on the day of the wedding, timeline of events, pace of wedding, how long it would take to get certain pictures, etc). They were very thorough with confirming who we wanted to be sure to get photos of, making sure to ask for best tips for any family members who we wanted photos with who may have some challenges with taking portraits, and ensuring that they understood what was important for us day-of. We had multiple edits to the timeline of events for the day of the wedding and they were very flexible. Although we're confident that they are talented enough to take amazing pictures anywhere, we had a strong desire to inquire about their services because they had shot at our venue multiple times before. Prior to the wedding, they came to our rehearsal to meet our family that were going to be in the portraits, and that was super helpful. Day-of, we couldn't have been happier. They showed up bright and early to take pictures of my husband and our guys, and made absolute art out of a bland hotel room. Then they made their way up to take pictures of me getting ready with my mother and best girlfriends, and they caught everything. Meanwhile, they were taking beautiful pictures of all the details (rings and accessories, the venue, tables, flowers, caterers, etc.), and got amazing shots we didn't know were happening. They worked so fluidly and sneakily, that we didn't always notice they were taking pictures, but every so often we would catch them literally RUNNING to get a fantastic shot. We had a few babies/toddlers in our portraits, and Royce and Ann were so good at getting them to smile and laugh, that all the adults (including ourselves) were laughing and getting distracted by their cooing and raspberries. We have a lot of family combinations, and they got ALL of them in a timely manner. Our guests LOVED Royce and Ann, commenting that they were running all over to catch everything, which we greatly appreciate because we definitely didn't see everything ourselves. They caught so many amazing candid shots of our loved ones, and it was so special to have them there. The portraits they took of us are STUNNING and we are totally obsessed with all of them. They knew how we felt most comfortable, and didn't push us to pose in ways we weren't comfortable with. Same goes for our guests, because of all the prep they did with us prior to the wedding. We were just posing and smiling, and they were literally throwing themselves on the ground to get a fun angle, and we are so amazed by all the thought they put into capturing these moments for us. Even after the wedding their professionalism and amazing customer service continued. They were so quick to send us a "sneak peek" of photos, the slideshow they sent made us cry all over again, and they always kept us posted on the timeline for getting the services we requested (day-of photography, slideshow, wedding album). We received a flash drive with all the photos on it, and it came in such a beautiful wooden box, and the flash drive had our names and date of our wedding engraved on it. When selecting the photos for our wedding album, they were very quick to get us edits back, and they were very thoughtful and creative when we gave minimal direction on edits. They were also extremely patient with us when we had a family emergency post-wedding and still turned the wedding album around quickly for us. The album is BEAUTIFUL, and they even had expert advice about what color album we should select based on the colors of our wedding pictures. Oh also, Royce and Ann are just amazing people. Royce is focused, passionate, and extremely talented. Ann is super sweet, handled all communications with us, and even positioned herself on a treacherous hill to get a BEAUTIFUL picture for us. OK so part 2, we had Royce photographer our wedding in Pacific Grove. He and his team were fantastic, and the photos beautiful. Here are some highlights: * before deciding on Royce, I showed him some pictures from other photographers that had elements that we really liked. In particular I liked how some people had done photos of the "objects"--rings, dress, venue--in a certain way that is very artistic and beautiful. He not only understood what I was talking about, but he executed on it beautifully. Frankly it's rare the photographer who can hear "I like what person X did, can you do something like that?" and then deliver. * Royce had really great logistical suggestions for a number of things, including sequencing of the reception, and the transition from ceremony to reception. He has provided a sheet with several helpful tips, that went way beyond the usual junk in magazines. We used a few and they noticeably helped. * On the day of the event, Royce and his assistant were *early* and it was fantastic. * Our venue had tricky light conditions, and he handled it really well. The pictures are great. * Because of Royce being proactive, we were able to set up a number of really important family and friends pictures that wouldn't have happened otherwise. He asked us to think about what pictures we wanted, and then we talked about the time needs for the ones with many people. That got me clear on what was feasible, and it all worked out. We have very special pictures now. * Royce has that je ne sais quoi talent for working with kids, and getting them to laugh, and look ahead for the picture, and so on. This is actually really important--he worked it. * Royce and his assistant got a lot of great pictures at the ceremony, while being in the background and not at all in the way. * It was really nice, too, that Royce provides the pictures for download on his website--no charge--and so I could tell me guests to not worry taking pictures, because Royce had it covered. So I can heartily recommend Royce for weddings. He has lots of portfolios on his website. They also went above and beyond to make sure that we got a good location even though the original location we planned didn't work out. Royce was by far the biggest disappointment I have ever encountered as a photographer. I work in the film industry as a professional makeup artist in LA (union) and now SF and I was in shock how he handled his business. As a consumer my husband and I were fired by Royce by email. Never thought I would make a bad review on Yelp and even 8 months later I needed people to know. I just got back beautiful photos of OUR wedding back from July and thought I'd let beautiful wedding couples be prepared. Royce is a great photographer, he is not the photographer to go to if you have your own ideas of YOUr dream wedding photos. Royce is an artist with his "creative process" he calls it but his ego will get in YOUR way if you have a mind of your own. I gave him 4 photos from Pinterest of the bohemian beach look I wanted and he told me that it hindered him as a photographer. I didn't want cliff edge dramatic photos, I wanted close up photos of our love on some damn rocks. Call me simple but that's what I wanted and I was clear to him that my husband and I will need help getting comfortable with this session. Especially, my husband that does construction for a living. He doesn't like those EXTRA photos. Royce was so worried about his art that he failed to have any of sensitivity towards those statements. He said in his email "Thus, I need to be aware of what is giving to my energy and what is taking away from it." Royce.. don't we pay you...? He even said that we were insecure and that we made jokes about divorce and that was hard and hindered him. Royce, I can make whatever joke I want with my fiancé and now husband to lighten him up and get him to laugh. I don't need to explain myself. We don't have anything sneaking up our butts... I guess him being a jerk to his assistant/ maaaaaybe girlfriend...? was professional...? Eeks. Made us feel very uncomfortable. Anyways, good luck if you choose Royce as your photographer. I've always been on the other side of the camera myself, so yes I might have needed a photographer to have a warmer cliff side manner. But, I got that July 13th with out his help and was so happy. Our photographers gave us exactly what we wanted with out getting butt hurt or offended. I want to help someone special on the day thats about THEM and not Royce. Not fun not trusting your photographer that they might fire you before your wedding day because you acted a little nervous. Ladies and Gents you can tell whatever photographer what you want and YOUR idea on YOUR day. Royce is not a producer, director, actor, or model. He's a photographer and if he cant guide you with YOUR idea, he isn't worth the money in my professional opinion. My husband and I were referred to Royce and Ann by a good friend who also used their services for her wedding. I am beyond grateful that they were available on our Wedding day because it was the best photo experience ever. Not only are they incredibly artistic and talented, but they also really care about their clients. Royce and Ann had lots of check-ins with us and really made sure they understood our vision. They are incredibly insightful, organized, and SO FUN to work with. We ended up doing a mini engagement photo shoot with them and it helped us to not only feel comfortable in front of the camera but also gave us so many helpful tips to make our photos look natural. A few weeks before the wedding, they put together our entire wedding timeline for the day which honestly alleviated so much of our stress. We found Royce through a few friends who had used his services for their weddings and we loved his style! Working with him was simply a breeze. We sat down for 2+ hours over coffee before we even had our engagement shoot. He asked us questions about how we met, interviewed us about what we wanted from him and told us about his vision and philosophy. It was the most reassuring experience. Our engagement shoot was breath taking. We went down to Big Sur to a remote beach and the results were Game of Thrones worthy. We met again before the wedding to discuss the timeline, family dynamics (extremely important!) as well as his role in our big day. I think one of the most important aspects was that our day did not revolve around the photography but rather that the photography revolved around the events of the day, which doesn't always happen. Our wedding day arrived and the rain came with it. Despite the rain, Royce found ways to capture our day. We even got the most magical night time shots. He offered to do a second wedding shoot due to the rain (which we definitely took him up on!) We met up with him a few months later and had a second wedding shoot at a location closer to home. The photos were absolutely stunning. We really can't say enough about Royce and his team. He is passionate about his work and determine to make sure you have the fullest experience. We used Blurred Line for our engagement and wedding photos, and I cannot sing enough praise for Royce and Luis. Aside from producing beautifully artistic photos, Royce and Luis made everything easy. After a consultation where you talk about what you want your photos to look and feel like, and if you give them free reign to do their artistic thing, they will capture amazing moments. They're priced very competitively, but the quality of the photos are top notch. They are a fantastic team and throughout our relationship with Blurred Line, Royce and Luis were constantly going out of their way to accommodate us: - Due to our own time constraints, Royce and Luis were willing to shoot our engagement photos in two separate sessions, going all out for each one, and never once complained about all the frantic emails I sent them. - They met with our wedding site coordinator before the wedding, and attended our rehearsal at the venue, at no extra charge. - They suggested engagement photo sites, which we loved since we have no idea what place would produce the kind of pictures we wanted. - They gave us pointers on how to pose without making us look staged. - They were fun to work with and still very professional, which is important when you're with them all day (for the engagement session and the wedding), and they're capturing some intimate moments between you and your partner. I wish I had known about Royce sooner. I hate having pictures taken and have never been very photogenic. I really wanted some family/group photos and my daughter chose Blurred Line Photography after reading their great Yelp reviews. She gifted us with the family photo shoot. Royce picked the location and it was perfect. He took lots of different shots of our extended family, which included my parents and my sister's family and a dog. It was a very emotional day for our family and Luis handled the shoot with absolute professionalism and care. I lost my dad to cancer less than a year ago and we wanted to chronicle his entire life, even the funeral. Luis traveled to the site before the event and met with the site director to inquire about best places to shoot photos and check out the venue. The day of the funeral, he arrived early to take photos of the cemetery grounds and set up his equipment. During the event, he was respectfully "invisible." Blurred Line Photography is the best! Royce was recommended to me by my cousin a few years ago, we have since done 3 family photo shoots with him. I have rambunctious 3-year-old twins. He shows tremendous energy and patience when working with them. Each age, of course, brings different challenges, but he manages to pull of miracles every time -- both with his solo and family shots. We usually do our pictures around the kids' birthday, and he is kind enough to bring number props for us to commemorate that as well.
