She answered all our questions, provided input on the outfits that my daughter had chosen, and suggested locations based on my daughter's wishes. She even visited the locations and took a video for us a couple days before to make sure that the current conditions of the location matched our expectations. She was prompt and made my daughter feel at ease. She had set poses that she wanted my daughter to do, but also allowed time for playful moments. I had explained ahead of time that the event…read morewas in a banquet room with low lighting and lots of bright colors, and that it was important to me that he capture photos of our family as well as all the guests. In that respect, Joel did a very good job. He photographed the newlyweds, the guests, and the performances thoroughly, and he worked quietly and unobtrusively throughout the evening. However, there were very few pictures of our family. I wished he had focused on getting more family pictures. The reason I am giving a 4-star review rather than 5 is due to a lack of clarity around post-processing. It was not communicated beforehand that the photos would be largely unedited. While the lighting was adjusted, many images ended up overexposed, and there were several distracting background elements--such as podiums, backpacks, and visible wires--that I had expected would be edited out. When I asked about this, I was told that additional editing would cost extra. There was also a lot of emphasis on a complimentary drone photo of the entire party, which unfortunately was not feasible since the event was indoors. I wish the focus had instead been on clearly explaining what level of editing was included and taking more family pictures. Overall, if you are looking for someone to efficiently cover an event and capture everyone present, Joel does a solid job. If you want more detailed editing or a specific finished look, I would strongly recommend clarifying those expectations in advance. I read many Yelp reviews before hiring him and did not see this mentioned, so I felt it was important to share.

If you don't want to risk it, there's metered street parking as well. Why not 5 stars? The "welcome in" and "good bye" near the door is super annoying. Rather have "ding ding ding." Takes awhile to develop (specifically speaking for passport photos) but great quality nonetheless. Not much of a waiting space/area or a place to stand/sit (can get stuffy real quick).

Disappointing Maternity & Newborn Photoshoot Experience…read more We had a very disappointing experience across both our maternity and newborn photoshoots. For the maternity session, there was no proper pre-discussion about locations or outfits. We were simply asked to choose from previously taken images, which felt impersonal. During the shoot, the session felt rushed, and the photographer appeared disengaged, as if they wanted to finish early. From a 2-hour session, we could barely select around 10 usable images, which reflects the overall quality. We also noticed technical issues with the camera, including frequent error messages during burst shots. For the newborn session, we had informed them in advance that we would be about 30 minutes late due to our baby's doctor appointment. Despite this, one of the planned props was removed, which felt inflexible given the circumstances. There was also a significant delay of about four weeks beyond the expected timeline in delivering the edited images, without clear communication or accountability. After delivery, communication continued to be frustrating. We received emails indicating additional charges if image selections were not made within 30 days, which felt pressured--especially considering the delay in delivery was on their side. At the same time, when we requested a re-edit for one of the selected images, we had to follow up multiple times and did not receive timely responses. Additionally, some comments made during the newborn shoot were uncomfortable and inappropriate. Remarks about the baby's skin tone and comments regarding the mother's feeding choices were hurtful and unexpected, especially for a one-month-old baby. We expected a much more respectful and sensitive environment. There was also no prior discussion about props for the newborn shoot -- only a couple of setups were pre-arranged, and we felt limited to those options. Similar to the maternity shoot, the overall photography quality did not meet expectations. From a 1.5-hour session, we could barely select around 15 images, and the editing felt very basic, with some images appearing minimally edited. Given our experience, the overall service felt unprofessional, inflexible, and lacking in quality. These are once-in-a-lifetime moments, and we expected a much more thoughtful, skilled, and supportive experience. Also, please don't go based on Instagram followers alone -- our experience did not reflect the expectations set by their online presence. If you are looking for a photographer who communicates well, provides guidance, and creates a comfortable and enjoyable session -- especially with a newborn -- this may not be the right fit.

I got married on May 4th and I choose Steven to do our wedding photography. Perfect choice!! He handled everything perfectly from start to finish. My husband and I wanted to take our pictures before the ceremony but wanted to capture the first time we saw each other on film. I really wanted that moment to be private and just the two of us however we obviously had to have Steven there to capture the moment. He met with my husband first and got him in position and then had to deal with me being a nervous wreck and deal with my emotions as well. During the time we actually saw each other I never felt like Steven was even there! Those pictures of us in that moment are the best I have ever seen, but not only that he was instrumental in keeping me calm! The pictures and slideshow are simply AMAZING!! Steven is the man to call if you want a professional photographer to capture your event! We are from Southern California, and I was planning a 70th birthday celebration for my husband at my children's home in San Jose. With only two weeks to go before the event, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find a good photographer on such short notice. I did a search on line for San Jose photographers, and contacted Steven Cotton Photography. Steven got back to me immediately, and we were able to find a time on Saturday--the day of the party--that both of us could accommodate. On the day of the event, Steven showed up 15 minutes early--time he used to set up his equipment. He was very patient and accommodating while we fiddled with last-minute clothing details. He took several group shots, individual family shots, and different grouping shots, and they all turned out great! Capturing the whole family so beautifully was the "icing on the cake" to a perfect celebration! My husband and I had a beyond incredible experience working with Steven! Steven is professional and friendly, all while taking beautiful photos. On the way over to our wedding in San Francisco he got a flat tire, but he still arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled meeting time! Our photography session was well organized and he was familiar with the venue. Steven gave us great direction, knew which locations would create beautiful shots, and he listened to our requests. The most incredible part was that he turned our photos around in less than 24 hours from the wedding!! We were able to look at our pictures the following morning!!! And they were beautiful!! My experience with Steven was awesome such a nice guy. I got to my 1hr photo shoot 20 min late and he seemed very relaxed, friendly and treated me and my family with lots of patients even though we had little time to take pictures. He didn't want to charge us for the photo shoot because he thought that our experience with him wasn't the best for the Reason that he had another photo shoot booked right after us And because we were late we didn't really move spots but it wasn't he's fault it was our. we still offered to pay but he said that this photo shoot was on him he send us a link to the pictures and also mailed us a DVD of it too.That was so nice of him and the pictures turned out beautiful I'm in love with them. Steven took family portraits for us and I was overall very satisfied with the whole experience. His rates are very reasonable. He was easy to get a hold of and responded promptly to emails. He was flexible with location and came out to SF even though he's based in San Jose. We chose Crissy Field as the location and because he's not as familiar with that area, he came out early and scouted out a few different possible backdrops before our actual appointed meeting time. He was very patient with my 2 year old and was open to suggestions and listened to our ideas about what photos we wanted. Afterwards he sent us our images within the agreed upon time frame and we were happy with the results. He got some great pictures and let us move around the park to get as many shots as we could. We were able to take pictures for the whole hour and keep the baby happy. We had a great family photography session with Steven. I have 2 kids (1 and 4 year old) and Steven did a great job at keeping them happy and collaborative during the photoshoot. We arrived a little bit late because we had difficulty finding the exact spot but Steven was patiently waiting and made us feel very comfortable right away. He didn't make us feel rushed and spent plenty of time taking different shots and poses. Steven is very pleasant person and I think anyone can immediately feel comfortable with him. Steven Cotton is an amazing photographer! We love working with him and we're so excited he's photographing our wedding in May! Each and every picture came out absolutely beautiful, photo-shopped to emphasize the positive aspects without looking unnatural. Steven is in incredible photographer. He not only has amazing talent but is also very friendly and easy to work with. He is great at responding quickly if you have any questions. Steven was more than amazing!!! He took stunning photos and captured our wedding reception the way we wanted it (action shots). Not only were his pictures breath-taking, Steven himself was awesome! Steven is very free style. He lets you design your post, your outfit and he is very flexible to your schedule. If you do not know what you want (posts, style, feels..etc), I will not go for Steven. However, if you have a great set in mind, he is the right photographer! He captures a lot of candid moments of my older child, and complete the photo 'cycle' by having back to back maternity + new born. I have a great time working with him. My family of four used Steven's photography services recently for a family portrait session and we were very pleased with the results. Steven was absolutely wonderful to work with! My husband and I tend to be on the shyer side when getting our pictures taken, but he made us so comfortable - and an added bonus was he made it super fun! We found Daniel here on Yelp and we went with him over the other photographers because he was easy to get in touch with, nice in person, and we likes his portfolio. When we met him we saw him for the nice and fun guy that he is. It was important for us to feel like we're dealing with a person instead of a stiff robot (if that makes sense). On the wedding day, he was awesome! He directed us very well and even took some specific shots for us. He even put up with all the family and friend pictures after the ceremony haha! We had some issues of losing light (winter marriage) and he decided to take some more pictures at the church before we headed off to the reception area and this turned out to be a GREATA decision since it was very dark soon. Had we waited, those ceremony pictures would have been dark. He had worked at our venue before, so he knew his way around the place and did his thing. I focused on enjoying the moment and making sure my new bride was happy, and Daniel took care of the awesome pictures. We got back all the pictures within a month and my wife went back and forth with him over email to pick some photos to touch up and to re-edit. In the end we were SUPER HAPPY and i would recommend Daniel Hon to anyone.
