We happened to have our travels land us in Iowa! Not Iowa the state, but rather Iowa, the town in Louisiana. Needing something for dinner, we took to Yelp... After much per reasoning of the choices of the area we chose, Roy's Meat Market! From the moment we stepped into this beautiful establishment, we knew that all the previous reviews were true, a proven hidden gem. My first question was what is Bohdin? With that our waitress promptly pulled an entire 16 inch link out of the pan and cut it into three pieces and told us to try it and see if we liked it. It was delicious, I asked her what I owed, she said nothing. Everyone needs to try it! At that, my wife and I ordered, I ordered the shrimp. Po-Boy sandwich filled with the condiments that I selected. My wife ordered the smoked turkey salad, it was huge! We then ordered a couple of beers, and proceeded to our table to wait for our food. We were greeted by some wonderful people sitting in the dining room, who were so kind and so welcoming it felt like we were at someone's home sitting around the kitchen table with old friends. Come to find out it was the owner, and one of his longtime, trusted customers and friends. As we were getting ready to leave, we were able to have a wonderful conversation with the owner ourselves, we've made a decision. The folks down here are absolutely kind as can be and so welcoming. I have not done a good job reviewing places we have visited in the last few years. Roy's has made me change my mind. We chose Roy's based on the previous reviews and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the shrimp poboy, a hamburger, and boudin. Every item was delicious. The chips and can drink for the mains reminded me of my childhood. Do not skip on Roy's. read more

I was a little unsure about stopping here, given so few reviews. Places like this are either amazing or trash. This place is definitely amazing. The folks were very friendly. I was worried they'd wonder what some out of town folk were doing in what could have been a local haunt, but that fear was false. The shrimp po boy was perfect. The jalapeño Mayo brought just enough heat to open you up, but not so much that you hated your life. I'd definitely recommend this place. read more

This is a true specimen of a hidden gem, located just off the interstate in little Iowa, Louisiana. As soon as you walk in the door, the delicious aroma embraces you. A rotating lunch plate is offered, as are a variety of poboy sandwiches. All of these options are amazing, and I don't say that lightly. There is a small seating area for on-site dining. The service is always warm, friendly and prompt. True to its name, this is an actual meat market, with frozen meat and sausage for sale. Great spot for all of your Cajun meats, boudin, ponces, etc. I had been to a few places along I-10 on my way to Austin from spending Christmas back home and several of them were out of many items including being completely out of sausage. I called ahead to Roy's and they were sure to let me know they were fully stocked. I stocked up on pork/venison green onion, regular pork smoked sausage and Tasso. My only suggestion would be for them to stock thermal bags instead of just styrofoam ice chests. For people such as myself traveling a long way without much room in their car otherwise, 10/10! read more

Traveling from TX to FL and stopped for gas. Quick Yelp search for a burger landed me here. Excellent fresh to order burger with bacon and cheese. Awesome flavor to the meat (super juicy but not greasy). Excellent bacon. Nice soft toasted bun. Probably won't get the chance to be in the area anytime soon so I enjoyed a second burger. read more

This place is a hidden gem. We had stopped to get gas, and decided to skip the chain places out in the highway. Then we stumbled upon Roy's. If you are looking for a good ole fashion hamburger, this is the place. We also tried the boudin, steak po'boy and the turkey po'boy. The bread they use is fresh and delicious. Roy's is a great local butcher shop with excellent product and friendly, local folks to serve your needs . . . BUT . . . they also serve several hot items as well. Their boudin is excellent and the hamburgers, my god, I haven't had a burger like they make in years. They remind me of the awesome "mom and pop shop" burgers we used to get when I was a kid. Fresh beef, crisp lettuce and pickles, etc. Simply a not to be missed burger. No more fast food for us! We don't eat burgers out often, but from now on, it's Roy's or home made! read more

This place has AWESOME meats and sausages to buy. Our favorite little local butcher. They also have crawfish in the evenings and it's good and cheap, just doesn't have much flavor. I don't think they soak them for very long, but some people don't like that more. They have great hamburgers that are super cheap. We love the inside decorations in the dining area! It was cooked medium rare perfect you could just taste the fresh ground beef .My husband had the ribeye med with boiled potatoes and a corn on the cob for $13.99 it was amazing. the meat market has a large array of items if I lived in this area I would shop and eat her all the time. Delicious boudin and sausage. The happiest most helpful staff. Easy access off interstate 10 . I highly recommend this place for a quick more-ish snack or to stock up for home ( in our case, on the road) after reading all about this Louisiana treat we were not disappointed. Yum! read more
