This is the place!

Steamboat Bills is a Lake Charles tradition! I usually go to their lakefront location, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the location on Martin Luther King Highway! In addition to being a great seafood restaurant, it's also a seafood market where you can pick up things to cook at home. It's convenient to I-10, so travelers could easily exit, eat, and get back on the road. This is a simple and easy place to navigate when you know the method. First grab a menu or look at the one on the wall, next walk up to the counter and order and pay. You'll get a number you carry to a table. A server will bring you your food when it's ready, which generally is pretty quick. Then you eat and leave. What to eat? Well that's a good question! Most everything there is great. Seafood is the star of the show, and one can't go wrong with a seafood platter. This is a huge pile of everything that can serve two normal humans. Too often I ordered the Medium Shrimp Platter, there's nothing wrong with this choice, but I needed to try other different things. A Seafood Stuffed Baked Potato is a great choice, and very filling. For the grazers there are some solid whole meal salads. Last time I was in I just got a Fish Platter, which has two huge fillets with fries, coleslaw, and bread. Gumbo and etouffe are good choices too! I really have no idea if their dessert is any good as I never have room for any. I guess one could get some to go...

First time trying, have passed it several times going and leaving the casinos but never stopped. Easy access off the roadway and easy access to get back on. Place was busy but moved very efficiently. Friendly staff and awesome recommendations. Ordered a variety from the menu and it didn't disappoint. Will have to try the one near me in Pearland , Tx. Seasoned food cooked with

We passed by and ordered some Togo. The food was all tasty. Popcorn shrimp 5/5 It was a good crunch. Shrimp was good holding size. Fried fish 5/5 Tasty as well and soft. Seafood Gumbo 4/5 Flavor was savory and really good. The shrimp was sparse though. It was kinda just the water of the soup and less rice and seafood. Wish it was more protein or so. Crawfish etouffee 5/5 Had this nice spice to it. Flavor was savory and good. Fried pickles 5/5 Good crunch and batter.

seasonings for sale too.

the service i got afterwards deserves 5 stars. we order a HUGE order: 4x 5lb bags of crawfish, blue crabs, 2lb shrimp and sausage, and crawfish etouffee. when we got home we realized we were missing some items. we starting drinking already, and didnt want to drive so i called them if i can come in the morning to get a refund on missing items. manager called and saved me a trip and fixed the problem. thank you! the crawfish had good flavor and i make a dipping sauce to go with it. shrimp had a good kick to it as well.

Fried Mushrooms - cooked perfectly!

We came here on a whim while passing through and I'm so glad we did! We had the fried pickles, fried mushrooms l, and cheese sticks. They were all fabulous but the cheese sticks could have been a little warmer, cheese had no cheese pull and kind of cold, but still good. The shrimp gumbo is absolutely delicious and my husband and son had the jumbo butterfly shrimp platter and it was so much food and so good! Our waitress was the sweetest and so attentive, we were so tired so I don't remember her name!

This is 2nd time I've been here as I am from Cali. This place is very good. I got the gumbo and deep fried boudin balls. They included a dinner roll as well. The dinner roll was actuay very good. The boudin balls were nice and crispy and very spicy, which is perfect for me. The gumbo is good, made using a roux. I thought it was better the last time I was here, but its still good. I left buying a can of their cajun spice amd used it to make a seafood etouffee at home and it was phenomenal!

We found this restaurant several years ago driving from Houma, La to Katy, Texas. It was one of the only restaurants we could find open on January 1st. Since then, we stop almost every time we go to visit family or if we are going to the casino in Lake Charles. The atmosphere is laid back, cozy, and welcoming. The staff has been quite friendly, and the last time we were there, our waiter recognized us. Our favorite thing to order is the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. Being from south Louisiana, I am quite picky on ordering gumbo, but seriously we have not been disappointed, and I order it every time. It is seasoned deliciously with a just right consistency roux to me. We also ordered the crawfish étouffée. It was rich and buttery. I am glad we shared it. We will be back.

Every time we come to lake charles to go to the casino at the golden nugget This is always a must definitely Restaurant restaurant then we go to The food is always good and consistent the customer service Is always friendly And they give us a warm welcome They always recognize this when we come in to eat And we live in San Antonio. You cannot go wrong with the fried crabs or any seafood on the menu.

This is the Medium Shrimp Dinner. The shrimp are light and crispy simultaneously. The flavor is great as well.

Simple Cajun fried food. Ordered for carry out. Was properly prepared and hot. Waitress running the carry out wasn't real friendly.

The interior is also big and very tidy! There was a small welcoming staff there to greet us. The grilled oysters were topped with chopped peppers and bacon bits - came out hot and the oysters were plump and big! Very very tasty! It was about 30$ for a dozen oysters - so quite affordable for the size of oysters. Great bite and starter. I ordered the Atchafalaya, which had fried catfish and crawfish etouffee gravy smothered on top. The rice was a bit underdone which made the over taste of the dish not as cohesive. The crawfish pieces were abundant, but slightly mushy. The sweet potato fried side dish that came with the dish was perfect though - soft interior and slightly crisp exterior. The portion size was huge and I wasn't able to finish the dish. I'd definitely recommend trying the oysters on the menu, and next time, I'll need to try the fresh oysters!

The quality of the meal definitely met our expectations. However, the service on the bar side left some room for improvement. We were told that the bar was running behind, but that explanation did not sit well considering the length of the wait for drinks. It seems that having a dedicated runner to help deliver drinks from the bar could greatly improve service and keep things moving more efficiently. Additionally, our appetizer was forgotten and wasn't offered until halfway through our meal, at which point it no longer made much sense to bring it out. Overall, the food and atmosphere were excellent, but improving drink service and communication in the kitchen and bar areas would make the experience even better.

The restaurant was decorated as you would expect a good Cajun restaurant to be decorated in. Service was nice and friendly and you order at the register and they bring your food to you. Service was great even after we got our food. A server asked us if we needed refills and if we wanted them in to-go cups, which scored bonus points with me! Here's what I had on this lunch visit: The crawfish pistollette (8/10) which was a small appetizer that was bread with some crawfish etouffee on top. Bread was nicely cooked and the etouffee on top was delicious. Solid starter! The Cajun Cooking Sampler (9/10) - this was a sampler with 3 amazing dishes. I got the shrimp and crab gumbo, which is classic Louisiana gumbo and it was outstanding! The sampler also had a bowl of crawfish etouffee which was good but felt it needed a bit more etoufee to mix with the rice. Lastly, the special of the day was fish courtbouillon which was a fish in tomato based sauce over rice. I really enjoyed this as the fish has a great texture and there was a lot of flavor in the sauce. Overall, solid lunch meal in the $ to $$ range depending on what you order. Recommend you trying it for a great Cajun experience!
