Reimundo came late to our appointment, barely spent any time surveying my kitchen as I was trying to get a quote for kitchen cabinets. When I asked to brainstorm on how to minimize expenses, he said in his broken, slur-filled English that he would send me a quote via email and hurried out. 10 minutes after, he calls me and gives some bs excuse about helping out his wife so I asked him if he could recommend anyone else. He said he didn't want to give me anyone and then abruptly hung up. My interaction with Reimundo was terrible as he was extremely disrespectful once he learned he couldn't bait and switch me to rip me off. No class. Very entitled. read more

We had a BIG project - converted a bedroom into a kitchen and converted the old kitchen into a bedroom. We shopped around for prices and interviewed contractors. Reimundo seemed like the right guy for the job and had the most reasonable prices we could find. This was a permitted project with the city of El Cerrito, and Reimundo worked well with the inspector. We were extremely happy with the work done. Our kitchen is beautiful and the bedroom looks like it was always meant to be there. I have used RP Builders for two major jobs. The owner, Reimundo, is a friendly, conscientious, professional, inexpensive, and talented contractor. The first time, I hired him to build a new garage because he was the lowest bidder. The garage is a masterpiece thanks to Reimundo's attention to detail and craftsmanship. More recently, I hired Rei to do an electrical retrofit (knob and tube wiring is a leading cause of fires in berkeley). Rei recruited a licensed electrician and then worked with him an us to make sure everything was done properly. He then brought in a crew of sheetrock experts to repair holes needed to rewire the house. Everything Rei oversaw was performed perfectly and at a very reasonable price. We found Reimundo on Yelp when we were looking for a contractor to install our kitchen cabinets. He had gotten reviews for craftsmanship and reasonable prices so we gave him a call. Our first impression was he arrived on time for the estimate and then every day on the job after that. He had lots of challenges with our cabinets since our home is older (90 years old), nothing is aligned or straight any more, nor did our cabinets come with any sort of instructions, but that didn't daunt him. He did an excellent job, and came up with creative suggestions to get around some of the structural issues, but always got our OK before proceeding. I was looking to have work done on our house and contacted Reimundo to talk to him about it and get an estimate. While we ended up going with another contractor who was a better fit for what we wanted to do, I really appreciated working with Reimundo as well. He wasn't pushy, didn't try to upsell us, offered us lower-cost ways to do the work, was prompt with a very competitive estimate, and didn't pressure us. Reimundo worked on my rental home that I bought. The house needed some work to make it rentable. Reimundo fixed a wall, installed a dishwasher and even converted a walkin closet into a half bathroom. He replaced the bathtub and retiled it, turning it into a beautiful bathroom! I needed an old leaky Berkeley garage rebuilt. I interviewed a few contractors and Reimundo was friendly, knowledgeable and listened to what we needed. We hired him to the work. And it was a great decision - he kept us informed of the progress weekly (or more if we needed). There were cost overruns (because the city required a sump pump to drain water) - and he informed us of the added cost and got our approval along the way. I ran into Reimundo at a job I was working on and saw the house before and after and I have to say, I was impressed! Not only is he good at what he does, he is honest and trustworthy. I was working outside on some windows and inadvertently left my cell phone on the back of his truck and he left and I left after him. I got down the street and reached for my phone and it wasn't there so I went back and looked all over for it. He went to Home Depot and back and the phone was still on the back of the truck and he made a valiant effort to find the owner! I had no idea where I left it, I actually thought I left it on the top of my workers car and he drove off with it. I caught up with my co-worker at another job and he didnt have it so I had him dial my number and Reimundo answered the phone and said he found it on the back of his truck. I have used RP Builders for our house in Oakland, CA. He and his team worked on my kitchen remodel, our deck construction, bath remodel and full house painting. We also used them for the replacement of windows and doors in our house and the expansion of the kitchen which was complex and involved foundation work and movement of plumbing. I can not say enough good things. Reimundo is a friendly and experienced builder/electrician who pays great attention to detail and the craft of building. We just used RP again for a kitchen update, painting, medicine cabinet replacement, fence gates job on a rental. On a Saturday and on his own time, Reimundo took me to 2 hardware stores discussing and picking out countertops, sinks, backsplash, faucets, etc....so that we could proceed with the work quickly. He literally spent hours on a beautiful Saturday with me driving all over the place to pick out hardware. He was already booked but squeezed our job in between and on weekends. The finished updated kitchen is transformational to say the least! RP updated me with pictures and text throughout the project. He is meticulous and supervises his crews well. He even supervises the cleaning lady's job since we are not on site. He makes good recommendations to update all the switch plates and plugs to give the house an updated look. He was going to do the switch work pro bono but I paid him anyway. Then recently I was in town just one day and called RP to see if he could fix the plaster ceiling gaping hole in the garage. He immediately made some phone calls and recruited a plaster specialist and together the two of them demo and put up new fire retardant sheet rock and patched the hole beautifully in just a few hours. It is hard to find good capable help and one who will not overcharge you and one you can trust your home to. He also takes pride in a job well done and that is becoming rare these days. Plus his invoicing is very clear too. I continue to be grateful to have RP's expertise to maintain and beautify my property. read more
