We hired Alan to replace our leaking windows and siding on the front and roof of a multi-story condo building. He is one of the most honest and quality-focused contractors I have ever worked with. During planning, I spoke to a number of other contractors who wanted to use retrofit windows and just leave the siding in place. Alan took the time to explain the proper way that the building wrap, siding and windows had to interface to get waterproofing, and how we were better off replacing all three if we wanted to be sure we'd fix our problem. Even with this extra scope, Alan's pricing was very fair. Thank god we went with Alan. When they removed the existing siding, they found severe water damage underneath the siding and a subpar earlier repair job. When this surprise came up, Alan talked us through the damage and gave us our options. They ended up ripping up two layers of existing siding, cutting out damaged building sheathing and replacing it with new plywood, before proceeding with the job. The overrun costs were very reasonable and we never felt like Alan was taking advantage of us. The end result was great quality at a fair price, and peace of mind that our issues have been resolved and we won't have to worry about the front / roof for a long time now. OK,now Alan is making up nonsense to cover for his lack of follow-through. He and his worker did not lay down tarps as claimed, did not show pictures as claimed, did not follow through as expected. It shouldn't be the customer doing the final inspection; it should be part of his job. Alan, it is not OK to make up facts. He did finally clean-up but only after several contacts to him. Alan explained what my options were and my decision was to replace it with newer, more improved vinyl siding. I also had two windows that needed to be replaced, so we added that to the overall job. He spent like 45-60 minutes talking about how he knows his stuff and he's a old school Sunset District guy. Dude never calls me back, straight up nothing. The workers carefully removed the deteriorating old wood shingles (that were unfortunately sprayed with Tex cote long ago!) I said no, just wanted to know if you are going to show up, being that it is past our appointment time. He had no recollection that we set the appointment 2 days earlier. This company is either out of business, on vacation, or remarkably unresponsive. I used Yelp!'s estimate service to send a request for an estimate to them over a week ago. My written request included the rough dimensions for the siding I would need and the style of vinyl I would like. After no response to that I've called them maybe five times, but the same outgoing recorded message simply asks callers to leave a message. Wow, what a positive experience, and end result on the siding work needed on my home, done by Alan's company Alan Siding & Windows. A large tree limb had fallen in my backyard, and damaged a portion of the siding, which we had put on 25 years ago. I contacted Alan and he promptly came out to look over the damage. There is a lot to like and nothing to dislike about the work that Alan and his crew have done. First off, his first visit. We needed to take care of an east-facing wall that abutted our neighbor's house but rose above it. In order to do the job, they would have to use our neighbor's roof to reach our wall. Alan went into great deal describing the problems and explaining what needed to be done and how his crew would do it. He also volunteered to talk to our neighbors to explain what our project would entail, how it would affect them, and reassure them that the crew would do their best to leave no damage to their roof (and a small deck as well). Not that we have had trouble with our neighbors, but they were assured by Alan and agreed for the work to be done. Two weeks later, on schedule, the crew appeared and started work. The initial estimate was 6 days (allowing for possible troubles). But Alan said the work would likely be done in 4 days or less. The crew started work and after 1 day it looked like they would be done a lot sooner. In fact they finished in 2 days. And they did an excellent job.They were also very polite and very considerate. They politely asked to use our "facilities" (my polite word) and knocked on the door whenever nature called. And then they cleaned up! Our garage (where supplies were stored and work was done shaping various pieces of metal) was cleaner after they left than before they arrived. We checked the roof of our neighbor's house and there was no sign of any detritis from the work. Alan came by today to pick up his check (more on that shortly) and we took him to our roof where he too inspected to insure that the crew had cleaned up and that the job had been performed correctly.
