And they told us my boyfriend's car needs a whole new engine which would've been the cost of the car itself, they told him to junk it and he couldn't afford to get it fixed so one of the mechanics bought his car for $500. The next day my engine was stalling so I went there to get my engine checked. They called me later on and said rats chewed on my engine wires and charged me $2800. Me and my boyfriend didn't know better at the time so we just paid cause we needed our cars for work. I had a good experience here. I've given it time to see if there are any issues after the alternator and battery swap they did, but all seems fine a month or so after the repairs. There are some reviews here saying that some folks have not had a good experience, but my experience was positive. The mechanics that helped me out were informative and professional, the labor rates are listed in the office (pretty decent rates ESPECIALLY with all the dealerships surrounding this repair shop), they employees were clear with me on repair time, I checked out the parts they installed and it seems I wasn't hit with a crazy markup, as I have resources to look into this, and lastly, they cleaned the F**K outta my car... interior AND exterior. As I was not expecting to be given back a clean vehicle, that really hit the "five stars" for me... shoot I have a maintenance package with a local dealership for my work vehicle. I take it in to the dealership it was purchased from for $2k-$3k worth of work, and it's returned to me in the same cosmetic condition... RPM Automotive only did $1250 in repairs, and my car came back with a clean interior, exterior, windows streak free and almost every speck of brake dust gone from my rims. Thanks guys. Chuck and his guys are honest, fairly priced, and trustworthy. I've only been going to them a couple of years, but as long as I live in the LA area I will not go anywhere else. I went here for a quick smog check so I could register my car in the state of California. The guy behind the counter (Chuck) was SO nice. I couldn't believe it. He offered us coffee/water and to take anything from this crazy huge snack basket. (Cookies & Payday.. :D). He also offered to drive an elderly woman home who was getting a smog check and engaged everyone in Oscar conversation. Totally professional place.. the smog check was done really quickly and the entire process was very simple. They gave me $10 off for being a AAA member and told me that I could also come in for some 38 point check thing for free. Total was $50 after the discount (not bad!). You can't really fake being a super nice person who actually cares about their customers. This place was the real deal. Let me begin by saying in the past, I would have given Chuck and RPM 5 stars for fantastic service and fairness. However, in the past year, something has changed drastically and I no longer feel that way. I will rate RPM 1star only, because I am not permitted to rate zero stars. In the past year, I brought my car to Chuck 3 times to fix an oil leak. Each time he found lots of additional things wrong with the car, all needing immediate attention. He fixed all the other things but the car still leaked. A month ago, he said I needed a new O ring and new struts (yes, they were in very bad shape). I agreed to the work which cost $1,700.00 (OUCH). When he called to say the work was finished and someone was driving the car to make sure it ran well, it was THEN he said he wanted to power wash the underside of the car to see what the problem might be, to the tune of an additional $125.00. That was the moment I lost confidence in him. WHY wouldn't he have done that FIRST? He basically admitted he was just picking expensive things to fix without knowing the actual problem. I refused to pay any more money and picked up the car. Guess what? It was STILL LEAKING OIL! I got a friend to clean the under side of the car ($5.00 for 2 cans of engine wash from the auto parts store) and I took it back to Chuck, who told me I needed an oil pan gasket and a water pump. Now, that very morning I started to see coolant leaking a tiny bit, and I thought it might need a water pump soon. When Chuck quoted me $975.00, I said "No Thanks" and said I'd come get the car. When I picked the car up that night, 5 minutes into my drive home the heater only blew cold air, my engine light came on and the car started to make a dinging warning sound. As I pulled off the freeway, a little bit of white steam came from the hood. I sat by the side of the road for an hour and left Chuck a voice mail. When the engine cooled, I made it the few additional blocks home without frying the engine. When Chuck called the next morning he was rude and dismissive. "I told you you needed a water pump, that should have told you it was dangerous to drive". When I said "you didn't say it was imminent and to have the car towed home" he said "well I'll never say anything to frighten you, but you were warned. Call me if you need anything". A dear friend of mine changed the water pump. The part was $50.00 from Autozone. At Autozone, when I mentioned the story about my mechanic wanting to charge a fortune, the Autozone guys asked me who the mechanic was. When I told them it was RPM, they looked at each other and started to laugh. Apparently, they hear lots of Chuck stories. A week later, my friend offered to change the Oil Pan Gasket ($18.00 at Autozone). When he removed the gasket he found: 1) the gasket put on a year ago was too small and 2) SEVERAL screws holding the oil pan in place were UNSCREWED. The 5 in front that were easy to reach were all loosely screwed. The ones in the back were all perfectly tight. It certainly looked suspicious! That a AAA, 5-star rated mechanic would put my car and my person in such danger, seemingly intentionally, seems criminal. It appears he was creating problems, knowing I'd bring him the car to fix them. To have the car in his care 3 separate times and to not fix the leak, and to not properly "diagnose" the problem it seems he created, is beyond forgivable. He will never see me again. I plan to report him to AAA and to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I'm a 20 year Veteran with 5 deployments and just recently move to Glendale California in the year 2014 upon retiring from the U.S.Army . I have friends with the Glendale Police/Fire Department that reside in the Glendale area that spoke very highly of this city all around. I have had great experience with my family with their school system and how safe this area regarding raising your children. Until I ran into a vehicle problem and my roadside assistance which is Triple A highly recommended a Repair shop that's no further than a mile from where I reside. Elated with the information , my vehicle was towed to their facility approximately 2:00 in the morning and the Triple A driver was kind enough after to drop me of at my residence. Long story short , transmission repair close to 5000 dollars and upon picking up my vehicle after repair , I must say that I was impress of their work. Push forward a year and a half , my vehicle started to stall and so I drove my vehicle to the same facility RPM automotive. You Ready. Here's the list of the challenges I've encounter. 1. The same Representative named Chuck who I spoke highly of to all my friends regarding their quality of service was now a condescending SOB. 2. Just to diagnose the vehicle $403.00 dollars. 3. 6 codes diagnosed and was a bit overwhelming per Chuck upon call back. 4. To move forward after diagnosis assess, estimate cost nearing $3.000 for repair. 5. None of the 6 codes stated by Chuck was transmission related which they worked on before and no history of the new problem that's going to be covered. I will put my credibility on the line and say this in closing because I can go on and on about this place. THIS IS WHY SOME HONEST MECHANIC SHOPS GETS OVERLOOKED. THIS IS THE WORM THAT RUINS THE ENTIRE APPLE. PROFESSIONAL THIEVES AT BEST. Chuck is a DR Jekyll and hyde. STAY AWAY from RPM all Veterans and the rest of Glendale occupants. And after trying jump start it with my friend's car for half an hour just to be able to drive it far enough to get to the location. I thought they would at least look at the car before taking his mask off and telling me to FUCK OFF AND PAY $125 TO GET MY CAR TOWED 100 FEET so they can look at it. Potentially your worst nightmare: on an out-of-state road trip and your power steering suddenly takes a crap on the freeway. Yikes! Not to mention, you have unsuccessfully followed directions and pull off into a strange neighborhood in the middle of god-knows-where. So, you call AAA and they send a truck to tow you to a completely unfamiliar shop where you are totally at their mercy. And, you have to go to the bathroom. Not a scenario you would wish on anyone, but what a pleasant surprise. The shop was clean, the receptionist was friendly, and the bathroom was not scary at all (probably thanks to the receptionist - she just seemed like that type of gal) .They diagnosed the problem as a belt (not the more expensive pump surmised by the driver), and with my permission replaced both, safety checked the car and replaced the rear light that the Anaconda still hadn't got around to doing yet. All this for less than 200 bucks, which in my experience is the minimum amount usually charged by mechanics. In addition, they gave us bottles of water,had a snack basket of which Babygirl eagerly availed herself of the contents (cutting into their profits more severely than they know), and gave us new directions which let us avoid the rush hour traffic and got us safely home. If that's not 5 star worthy, I don't know what is. read more

After seeing the glowing reviews for this place, I chose to take my vehicle here for some repairs. Chuck seems very nice, but I was much less than impressed when all was said and done. One of my biggest gripes is the cost. The OEM part they replaced has an MSRP of $150 (actual street price from Toyota OEM authorized sellers is closer to $110), but I got charged $200 for the part. I also got charged for 5 hours of labor which, considering the location and difficulty of changing out this part (along with one other simple part), is ridiculous. The 5 hours was in addition to the 1 hour inspection cost. They must be moving in slow motion in the shop. Now, before you think I'm ignorant of the time involved, let me say that I've: pulled and rebuilt an engine in my other car, re-pulled the engine on that car (a few years later) to swap out the automatic transmission for a more enjoyable 4-speed manual, I do all my own oil/brake changes, and recently replaced my timing belt, idler bearings, tensioner, and water pump. So I know my way around a car. The only reason I took it to a shop is that my current apartment doesn't have a garage where I can do these sorts of things myself. Not only was it way more expensive then it should have been, but when I was waiting to pay, I was faced with some extreme awkwardness. When one of the shop guys was leaving, Chuck had a 'discussion' with the guy about getting his work done and some other stuff. There was definitely tension in the air. Then another mechanic was about to clock out and there was a very long, very awkward argument about work hours and days off and some other stuff as well. They were talking right in front of me and I felt really weird sitting there. It was definitely not cool to be having that discussion right in front of a waiting customer. On the plus side, my car came back really clean. They had wiped down the interior, vacuumed it out, and given it a wash. They said that I needed another thing replaced, gave me a quote, and I took my car elsewhere where it was done at 1/3 the labor cost. I'm never going back to this place again. read more

In a nut shell I just wasn't too pleased with this place. They're prices are high and there is something about the owner I don't trust. I'm also very familiar with my usual shop who is very accommodating and sometimes works with me on pricing. They just don't do smog checks so I went to RPM because it is right around the corner from my place. I wouldn't say they're accommodating or that customer service is at the top of their list. On the same token, I was so aggravated with my situation (a year long battle with my check engine light) that I may not have been the nicest customer they'd seen that day. A few things that irked me: 1. They don't do a free retest on smog checks unless you get your repairs done there. Since my repairs were under warranty with another shop (and RPM prices are a bit steep), I only get a 50% discount on a re-test. Say whaaaat? 2. They were closed during lunch time. Maybe I'm ignorant to shop service etiquette, but having grown up in an auto body shop as a child and having to deal with my own car problems since my first car 16 years ago, I've never been to a shop that closes for an hour at lunch time. What about people who need their car serviced at lunch time? (And if you can't get there before or after work, don't worry, they're not open on Saturday either.) Pretty sweet hours for them. 3. This one I will admit I partly blame myself... When I did come at lunch time (not realizing they were "closed"), I just needed to see if my car was in "ready mode" for a re-test after my repairs were complete. Its a simple task of hooking up a little computer to the box under my steering wheel. It literally takes 2 minutes. The owner said I had to come back after lunch. Seriously?? You can't take 2 (3 tops) minutes to just run a quick scan? Certainly its not because he doesn't know how to operate it. However, I'm sure my explosion of frustration that I had to come back... again... probably didn't make him want to help me out. I will admit that. :) Honestly I won't go back. Even for a discounted re-test. What if it still doesn't pass? Another 50% discounted re-test? I'm just kicking myself for not going back to the last place I had a smog check a couple years ago who is a test-only center that offers free re-tests. And since they're a test-only facility, they can't scam you into paying for repairs through them in order to get a re-test for free. read more

I took my son's car in for an oil change, he also did a thorough check and even gave it a free car wash! The waiting room is comfortable and clean, full of fun car models, and you get free snacks and water! I took my car to a different shop to get it diagnosed and they discovered it was the transmission. Luckily the other shop was nice enough to not charge for diagnosis and were happy to give me an estimate but I wanted to shop around to get other numbers. When I called Chuck, he immediately had a very bad attitude and seemed annoyed with my lack of knowledge of cars. He ended up diagnosing it himself and gave me a similar price for the cost of the transmission but didn't really tell me anything that I already knew. When I went to pick up my car, I felt as if he was judging me and looked down on me since I am younger. I was trying to buy a car from a dealer in Glendale and had the dealer bring the car here for a pre-purchase inspection. I was able to arrange the appointment on the phone with Chuck, the car was dropped off and he called me with the results. He was super easy to work with and didn't take my credit card info until after he had given me the inspection results-- which was surprising because I didn't even own the vehicle yet! Very glad that in this world there are some real mechanics, like these folks. It took only 15 minutes to fix a hole in my tire - something Nissan could not figure out for almost a year! I kept going to Nissan and letting them know that my tire pressure light was on, and they couldn't figure it out! But these guys, fixed the hole and for a reasonable price $15 bucks! I would have spent over a $100 bucks for a NEW tire! So props to the guy that did helped me out! Update: The tire was low again, and they checked out my tire and inflated it for free. I took my car to RPM earlier this year to have some belts replaced. Took my car to another garage today (since i was able to make an appointment over the weekend & needed it looked at asap) and was told the whoever replaced the belts failed to tighten them correctly, and also failed to properly tighten screws on the power steering pump. I've never enjoyed their customer service, but now I doubt even their technical ability. Will not be going back! read more
