The jazz selection is quite small, they had some collectible records if it weren't for the condition. They know what they have so don't think your going to get over on anyone. I probably overpaid for a potentially awesome record only to discover it was being sold on eBay too which revealed, what appears to be a pretty deep scratch I didn't notice while in the store when looking at it with the shop owner. I will play it hoping the scratch is only esthetic. read more

Visiting from out of town and stopped by RPM to check out the shop. I typically visit a couple of record stores whenever I go on trips and do a proper digging through the used vinyl. Was pleasantly surprised by the selection of great albums from some great artists. Almost every album I saw was either one I wanted or already owned. Picked out about 6 gems by the time I got through the second box. I also found a few I have been looking out for in shops for months. Prices were very reasonable and I inspected everything I purchased and was very happy with the condition overall. Definitely a cool little shop that has a well curated used vinyl section. read more

I "discovered" RPM records about a month ago after reading an article about the store in the local paper. Took me awhile to get there and to check out the store but I've been back over 3x's since. Mostly used vinyl with a small offering of CDs and some new vinyl stock. Very limited hours -- only open Wed - Sat 3-7pm. Store is owned by a teenager, which makes a good story, but most of the times I've been there her father has been working the store. I own over 2000 LPs and 1000 CDs; mostly jazz w/some R&R and classical. So, it's hard for me to find anything "new" to buy, even at places like Amoeba and Rasputin Selection is pretty good considering the small size of the store -- mostly R&R with some jazz and classical. Pricing is very reasonable but the condition of the LPs is relatively poor. Lots of very heavily scratched LPs that I reject out of hand but I've been able to find a few undamaged LPs to buy here each time I've dropped by. All genres of music are mixed in together and you have to go thru all the bins to see what's there. Not a big problem now since there aren't that many bins to flip thru but that will need to change as they grow, as I hope they will. I like to support small businesses and hope they do well. read more

I used to live in Brentwood about 4 years ago and have moved up to Washington where I found my passion in vinyl. I visited Brentwood recently and loves to find so much has changed. I saw a news article about a start up record shoppe in Brentwood and decided to check it out. I was expecting to be price gouged because everyone is trying to capitalize on this current trend, but instead found a very welcoming, clean and friendly shop catering to all types of music for all ages. It was invigorating to see so many people browsing through the racks and some had very basic questions which the staff were more than happy to address without sounding condescending or pompous and actually brought excitement to the hobby. I ended up finding 3 records that day, 1 I really wanted and fairly priced, and 2 that I bought strictly on the price point and condition of the vinyl. This business is definitely going places and I do not hesitate to recommend this to friends and family down in the area. read more

It's nice to have a record store in Brentwood but cmon the record selection is horrible, but if you like 70's music. This might be for you.

This place is welcoming and reasonably priced, but a handful of gripes have kept me from really loving this place as much as I should. The prospect of a small, family-owned record store in my town is exciting to a vinyl enthusiast such as myself. I want to see this place do well, and I think that it will continue to do so, but I also feel like they keep holding themselves back in totally preventable ways. For one, the hours are fairly brief. 3-7pm is alright if you want to swing by after work, but I've had more than a few experiences where I've shown up just to find it closed. Even knowing the hours by heart, sometimes I'll find the shop closed regardless, and it's presumptuous for RPM to believe that customers will be checking their Facebook page habitually to prepare for impromptu closures. This could be ameliorated by hiring another part time staff member--Or someone willing to take over for the owner at the very least. Second, I think this store could practice better care when selecting which records to sell. If you're buying used vinyl, you should get into the habit of inspecting each LP before making a purchase--Shopping at RPM is no exception. I've been ready to buy certain records only to pull them out of them out of their sleeves and find built up grime coupled with scratches deep enough to make playback impossible. Even though prices are very affordable, I suspect that records are priced on name recognition and demand rather than the actual condition of the record. I'm usually pretty good at determining which LPs are salvageable via a deep clean, but I had an experience where I took a record home without noticing a small, yet significant warp on the corner that made the beginning of the album unlistenable. I messaged the business to find out if a return/exchange was possible and got a quick response. I answered a couple questions about the purchase only to be told about a no returns policy. This type of situation is frustrating, yet understandable for a small business. But the exchange left a bad taste in my mouth regardless. Why ask for all these details from me if you're just gonna tell me about your strict policy anyway? And why pair this with a (slightly patronizing) statement about how the problem is not with the damaged record, but with my turntable? I own over 100 albums and have never had a similar issue unless the record demonstrated significant wear. I'm not just another entitled Yelp reviewer, nor am I extremely bitter about the money I lost, but I would expect a little more respect for repeat customers such as myself. It's not my intention to shine a bad light on RPM. Like I said, I really want a store like this to succeed in Brentwood. And for the most part I've had pretty positive experiences at this store (especially on Record Store Day). But it's the aforementioned shortcomings, and my lackluster customer service experience especially, that really dissuade me from stopping by so frequently. read more

Today was my first time ever coming to this record store and while I really love the selection of music , I question the precautions of COVID taken In the store. There were tons of people in and out of the store without masks and I couldn't tell who was apart of the staff and who was just hanging out. After just complaining there were no good places locally to buy vinyl without heading over the hill, I was just informed about this place today. I took my daughter and brother to check it out today. I am very impressed with the selection. The bad thing about thift stores, antique shops, and places like Rasputin, is that you have to search through a lot of garbage to find anything good. Not the case at RPM. It's a badass little shop filled with gems. I found an original pressing of an early Black Flag 7", and a Christ on Parade album. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and it's just a great environment to be in. Will definitely be coming back to this place again. read more

I saw the flyer in a window of the movie theater and swung by on my way home. What a cool little place. A lot of great vinyl records in the store that makes me wish I had the room and a record player. There was a small selection of used cds and a few comic books. I was shown the upstairs where there is a practice room and a few instruments set up. The kid told me that some of the local teens go there to practice. Basically a little jam room. Good for them, what a great idea! I was also told that the owner is a teenage girl. but she wasn't there because she was getting ready for her junior prom, so her father manned the store that evening. Can you imagine that? I hope she succeeds. I ended up buying a cd pretty cheap, about 3 bucks and wished them luck. The place is kinda small and with a limited selection, but I like the idea and wish them well. read more

This record store was a very pleasant surprise for a vinyl enthusiast. Vinyl enthusiasts can be divided into two camps: those who are comfortable buying from Hot Topic or Urban Outfitters, and those who want collectibles and old favorites in nice shape. This part of the east bay hasn't had a proper record shop in years. Even in the final years of Rock Bottom Records, it had begun to cater to the rap crowd, especially local rap... which is fine if that is your thing (but it's not my thing). Many people don't remember this either, but around 1989-1990, there was a small record shop in Brentwood called "Rad Records". Both have fallen victim to the trend of cheap CDs at BestBuy and cheapos downloading. For the vinyl enthusiast, though, downloading (especially illegally) is incredibly lame. The goal isn't to be lazy and not have to put on pants and leave the house; the goal is discovering new bands and triggering that nostalgia bug. This store helps deliver on that. And here's the secret, vinyl enthusiasts who like great indie music actually have a higher spend than those buying Adele CDs at Target. Carrying mostly vinyl, I was surprised to find more than twenty five real gems in this store. I went in expecting old, ragged Linda Ronstadt and Pablo Cruise albums and instead found original UK 7" singles fairly priced. New Order, Depeche Mode, Adam Ant - that sort of thing.. all in Near Mint shape. Found a couple of collectible LPs in excellent shape as well. The art of "digging" means some visits to your local indie shop will be more fruitful than others, but you have to go often and get there before your vinyl collector competition. I live in San Jose now, but my family lives near this shop and I cannot imagine visiting my family without buying a few things here each time. Great discovery. read more

Stopped by this place which is tucked into the back of the shopping center and has odd hours. Place could benefit from some marketing and an increase in the amount of product they carry. Rock selection is good, but jazz selection is nil. They have one $1 bin crate, and that was disappointing. Albums are priced 5, 7, 10 and up. They should at least be dusted for these prices. I think the pricing is solely based on cover condition mixed with popularity of the artist. The girl behind the counter was nice enough. I purchased 7 records and after vinyl vacking all the grime off them they played good. No clinkers. I recommend you check them out. Its worth the trip just for the selection of rock you don't come across at other places read more

This place is a small gem in Brentwood. I love visiting this little shop tucked away in the shopping center! They specialize in records mostly, but they also carry a lot of CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray Discs. Although, what draws me to their store is their comic book collection and retro games I find there. They even have memorabilia from your childhood (depending on your age) that come into their store from time to time. I love that the store is a family business! The owners are great!
