During one of the recent snow storms, I opted to take RTD back from the airport. Having been accustomed to mass transit in NY, Chicago, and even LA. I was shocked to board the bus and hear the fare was $9!! Seriously? I was mildly aware the fare INCREASED on the light rail, the further you needed to travel, but was unaware they charged a similar hike at the airport. After the lengthy trip to the first light rail station, the blizzard was in full effect to the point of not being able to see the end of the platforms. There was no shelters from the storm on the platforms and I and the few other riders took refuge in the glass elevators. My 2 transfers took over 45 minutes each. When all was said and done, a 45 minute drive took me 3hrs and cost more than to PARK at the airport for the two days I was away. This is not much of an incentive to take public transportation. read more

I take the bus and my bus drivers are usually very nice. They seem to learn their regular riders and that is great. They usually come about on time, but I mean, you can't complain too much about that because this is life and in life there is traffic. Cars have that same problem too and you are more likely to be murdered in a car (I think). THAT BEING SAID: Why can't RTD get the same GPS technology that uber has so that if your bus is running late, you know this (and can see how quickly it IS coming), so that you don't have to stand outside in subfreezing temperatures? I know exactly when my dominos pizza is arriving, but I am living in the 90s when it comes to bus predictability. read more

16th Street mall shuttle = you get what you pay for... Why is it that around 1:30 pm the westbound mall shuttles are non-existent? I sent a comment to RTD once and they said it was for the safety of the pedestrians which makes NO sense to me. I see MULTIPLE shuttles headed eastbound during my trek to Union station. read more

I haven't owned a car since 1992 but I have only been in Denver for 9 years. Growing up in NYC, I am used to public transportation and all that goes along with it. RTD is a quality transportation service. I actually served on a Light rail panel a few years ago, in which they would take comments and suggestions from us as well as keeping us informed of the pending Light Rail expansion. They try real hard to meet the needs of the people using their service, and they really do care. RTD is always doing something to add ridership and make their system much more than it is. Their website is easy to decipher, the routes are fairly reliable to the time tables and many of the drivers are happy to do their job. Keep in mind that many drivers work for a contracted company, such as Laidlaw, as opposed to just working for RTD. You ever have any questions for the bus drivers, just ask them...I find they usually can answer it. They'll also make stops where you want at night, if you dont feel safe as long as it is on the route. If you are a CU student, or have an Ecopass, then you are money. You can ride ANY service RTD has to offer, including the buses to the airport. I think if more people rode the bus, or light rail, more than just once they might see how valuable a service it is to have. Shout out to all my 0 bus drivers...woot! read more

Full disclosure: I dispatch buses in Boulder, but not for RTD, so I think I can still be unbiased. I feel so lucky to live in a city where the bus service is as extensive and punctual as it is. I hardly ever feel the need to own a car. From where I live, less than a mile from the bus station, I'm hard pressed to find a location in Boulder that I can't get to with only one bus ride. (There are a few areas, like parts of southeast Boulder that aren't on a major artery like Baseline or Table Mesa, that require two buses, but that's about it.) A ride to downtown Denver is just as convenient, with buses coming as frequently as every 15 minutes at rush hour, with options for express service or local stops at the cities in between. The airport bus is a lifesaver - free with RTD passes and $11 without - when the only other alternatives are SuperShuttle, which costs $25 and takes forever, or a taxi, which will run you about $80. I find that most of the routes I've taken (and I've taken pretty much every route in Boulder except for the 209) are all creepily punctual. Especially the regional routes. US-36 can be backed up for 10 miles and the BX will someone manage to get to Denver relatively on time anyway, via side roads. A million students will board the 206 at Fairview High school and it won't affect the time schedule at all. The bus which runs into the most punctuality problems, I think, is the SKIP, which gets backed up on Broadway and sometimes will show up three buses in a row. But the SKIP runs so frequently during those busy times (evey 7 or 8 minutes) that I'd feel like a jerk for complaining. My one complaint has to do with driver inconsistency. If there are two bikes on the front rack, can I put my bike on the bus or can't I? There are drivers who will let me, and drivers who insist it's RTD's policy not to let me and if they break the rules they'll get fired. RTD's website says it's driver discretion. So which is it? And are drivers supposed to rip transfers valid for two hours, or an hour and a half? Can you bring your snowboard on the bus or can't you? RTD's drivers, as with any service, I suppose, range from nice and helpful to complete sociopaths, and all of the above rules are dependent on their interpretations, which I sometimes find annoying, like if I'm waiting in a windstorm with my bike and some skis over my shoulder, with a transfer that was punched an hour and 35 minutes ago. But as these situations are few and far between, my experiences are 99% great. Just have your pass or your cash ready and everything should go smoothly. read more

The light rail train from Union Station to the airport is always the nicest, cleanest, and most on time train here in Denver. The price is acceptable compared to a taxi or Uber ride to the airport and the timing is comparable to riding in a car. I would always recommend the train instead of a car going to the airport. Just be sure to plan accordingly as it takes about 45 minutes to get there. read more

Incompetent and uncaring. We moved into the Solana Apartments in Arvada in January of 2018 and were told the G Line was a few months behind. Well it's almost September now and there is no opening in sight. "Testing" has been ongoing for over a month. It might as well be operated by primates. In fact, there actually might be primates operating the trains as the "conductors" of the empty trains blare the horns incessantly 24/7. Sleeping has become a commodity and is usually found by sleeping at a friend's house, away from the abnoxious, continuous blaring. Requests for a timeframe by residents have been answered with vague replies. The communication has been dismal and robotic. RTD's Facebook administrator sights nonsensical federal rules as reasoning for the disruption. The trains will never run from 12am-4am but yet we are told "the testers need flexibility". I feel confident in speaking for the community that they would rather keep their sanity than have the train (finally) open a few weeks later than it already will. I traveled to Japan last year where the trains are efficient and quiet. RTD- since your incompentence is apparent, how about seeking a consultant from someone that knows what they are doing? Hire someone from a country that has had this technology for centuries. You'd recoup more money in the short term. Whoever made your policies to run the train (along with it's horn) 24/7 should be fired. Whoever is responsible for PR should be fired. read more

FINALLY Denver follows every other major city by introducing the light rail. The light rail is, in my humble opinion, fairly new to Denver. I love the convenience although I'm pretty positive I'm the only one buying a fucking ticket. Next time, I'm riding free and that is a promise! Either way "the rail" got me from point A to point B pain free. I thought I was on the LIRR for a quick minute till I realized there weren't any glistening, gelled up petty LI guys around. As other reviewers have commented, RTD does a lot of things right. Having convenient public transportation to the Denver airport is a huge plus. The new Union Station complex is fabulous. Also, the vast majority of drivers are very courteous and helpful, and the fare system is easy to understand (although it's a pain that one can neither pay with a card nor get change when paying on the bus). However RTD also has some significant areas for improvement; they seem to not adjust their bus capacity or schedules based on completely predictable events, such as CU students returning to school; SkyRide buses are full to the point that one often has to wait for a second or even third bus to come. Likewise, schedules seem not to have been adjusted for the construction on 36, which every driver knows is *always* a problem causing slowdowns. Calling the bus tracker phone line is an exercise in frustration; one operator recently asked me, "Are you sure you can't see the bus? It should be there!" Yes, I'm sure; I'm standing on a completely empty street corner and there is no bus, although I agree that it *should* be there. In short, I appreciate having RTD as an option when I'm going somewhere that is very unpleasant to drive, or when our car is in the shop. RTD is a great option *in addition to* having one's own car. But at RTD's current level of service, it is not a great option *instead of* a car, and that's problematic if you're trying to be car-free in the Denver area. read more

Reviewing a public monopoly like RTD is probably a waste of time, but here are two concerns: 1. Their schedule is inflexible and does not respond to known events that cause over-crowding. e.g. On nights with Colorado Rockies Home games or Large Convention Center crowds or Both, good luck squeezing onto the crowded light rail cars. It wouldn't take much for them to add a fourth car to each of the scheduled trains and maybe add a few trains to their schedule during these very predictable large-crowd events. After attending a Cubs baseball game in Chicago a few years ago, I noticed that the CTA had several EL trains lined up and ready to whisk passengers away for free. Since we had purchased round trip tickets in advanced, it really didn't make any difference to their revenue that they suspended ticket checking in the name of expediency on these post game runs. 2. RTD evidently allow employees, retirees and their families of all government entities to ride for free. The next time they need more revenue, maybe they should consider reforming this policy before they raise ticket prices for the rest of us. 3. Having said all of that, the light rail is clean, quiet and beats any other form of transportation in the area. read more

Total mixed bag. I like that they go everywhere. I like that they operate late (1AM). I can't stand that they are horribly late whenever there is rain or snow. A trace of snow will shut these people down. The B/BX is my favorite, but only when their buses don't break down. It's probably happened to me about 4-5 times this summer. Some drivers are great, some drivers are mean bastards. You can tell that some of them just hate their jobs and hate that they have to help people. But the good ones are just amazing. They'll wait for you while you're running to the stop, they are polite and helpful. The best part was the airport/40th ave park-n-ride because it was free parking with the $12 total round-trip bus ride, but they're trying to charge for parking soon. read more

Today was a 5 star experience with RTD, thanks to a wonderful bus driver named Aisha. I hope I am spelling her name correctly. She is actually employed with a firm that provides drivers for RTD, and is not directly employed by RTD. She was at the Broomfield Park & Ride around 2:30 pm about to leave for Arvada. I was dealing with an emergency involving someone I was trying to help get to an urgent medical appointment. It was a complex situation; I will not go into any more details regarding the specifics of the situation. Aisha was kind and compassionate and composed, and closed down her bus to be supportive to us while this situation was being dealt with and resolved. She was able to alert emergency personnel and keep the other people trying to get on the bus at bay. Another person, an actual RTD employee, was also amazingly helpful, but I realized later I did not get his name. He stood outside the bus and kept things calm out there. I also appreciated the help of the Broomfield PD. Everyone was so kind and supportive in a difficult situation. Even these words don't quite feel like enough to thank them all! read more

Honestly, if parking downtown isn't so expensive I wouldn't even consider taking the bus AT ALL. NOPE. Wouldnt even cross my mind. My major problem with it is inconsistency and customer services. I can not speak for other bus/Lightrail line, but my regular bus 15/15L has been god awful. For example, one of my previous jobs required me to be at work at 4am, and my only option was bus 15 and 0. The 15 (Colfax bus) was constantly late (over 10-15 mins) and I have missed my connection bus several times because of it. Ended up taking Lyft to work. Wrote 2 emails to complain about the problem, didnt get any responses at all. Also, bus driver on these lines can be rude and careless. I have missed several buses because the bus driver was too lazy and impatient to wait to pull up to the bus stop and consequently I missed the bus because I couldn't see it coming. I am sure not all bus lines have the same problem, but with what I have experienced the RTD is doing a very poor job to regulate their bus scheduling and driver training. Really hope I can see some improvements soon. read more

They sure do make sure they get their money with an officer counting and then checking tickets, but don't make any effort to run on time or offer discounts to travelers missing connections and having schedule delays. They will let literally anyone drive. Absolutely the worst, especially for people who rely on the bus system. Driver was incompetent and extremely rude. If you are at the bus stop even a half a minute late, the driver will leave you and then call rtd police when you try to board. The 205 (bus 5166) to Boulder, you want to avoid if you can. The driver at 4pm on Sundays to Boulder is insanely rude and volatile. I thanked her for waiting past the time, and she exploded on me because I 'insinuated' that she was early. So, pro tip, get to bus stop 10 min early if you don't want the driver blaming you for them not following their schedule. The RTD drivers do not care at all about anyone or anything but themselves. Honestly, even though it's more expensive, 9 times out of 10 I would rather pay for a lyft because of how awful and rude the RTD drivers are. If I could give 0 stars, I would, but unfortunately I have to leave at least one star. Avoid at all costs if you can. Just awful. read more

The Denver bus system is fairly good. Buses tend to be on time, um mostly. I take the 48 to work everyday. There really could be more buses and routes however. If the bus system isn't necessarily the best way to get around it is certainly the cheapest entertainment you will find in the city. The crowd that rides my bus can be particularly hilarious. You see, I live by a lot of shelters and halfway houses and these guys come off their rocker sometimes. Don't worry though, if they get too rowdy the driver kicks them off. read more

The light rail, and downtown mall free shuttle are great but the ticket pricing is really high, very confusing, not intuitive and you have to pay for parking at certain stations??? For a party of 3 it's actually cheaper to drive rather take public transportation. That fact is very apparent if you take the train during non peak times... it's like a goats town, which I understand creates the need to charge more but what of the taxes collected to build the system... I believe if tickets could be made easier, possibly by a lower rate pre pay card then ridership would increase and volume will drive ridership. Hell, there is more pot money tax funds now and the cities nor state is fixing the roads... so why not invest in making public transportation easier and more affordable than driving. read more

We came to Denver on September 7, 2016 for a conference my wife was attending, and for an extended vacation to California thereafter. We took the A train from the airport to Union Station, then got onto the Free Mallride bus to the hotel. Half way to the hotel from Union Station, I realized left my backpack (with laptop computer and meds) in the overhead rack on the train! (Yes ... it took me this long to publicly admit that I lost my laptop). After uttering the appropriate number of expletives, we got to the hotel and The Concierge helped me track down the right people at RTD. They informed me that your procedure is that the train is swept at the end of each run. Anything found should be put aside and at the end of the day turned in. They also said that I could return to the station to speak with the Conductor if I wanted to. They gave me the likely times the train would return, and I went back to the station. I have to say, I was not hopeful. I remember people getting on the train as we were getting off, a confusing time for someone tasked with sweeping the train for left articles. I feared that any bag left would be simply be assumed to be the property of someone who had just gotten on. I prepared for the worst. So, I spoke with the first Conductor to arrive at the station. She got on the radio and in minutes located my backpack. She also identified the train that would be bringing the backpack back. When train 4009 pulled into Union Station at around 4:10pm Wednesday, September 7, the lost backpack was indeed with the security officer. So ... Thank You. And I know I thanked them all personally, but please thank them again. Thanks to the Security Officer/Conductor who found the backpack (I forgot to get their names). Thanks to the personnel at the station who were so helpful, respectful, and understanding in helping me through what surely would have been a vacation killer. Please let their respective Supervisors know how happy this passenger was with their service. "Well done" to all! read more

I frequent this station every morning to board the BX to Boulder, and for what it is, a place to grab a bus, it serves its purpose well. Incompetent employees that seem to despise their job and other people. I've been riding since middle school - that's 13 years - and it hasn't improved... It's gotten more expensive. What happened to that Boulder to Denver light rail? You know what takes the cake, though? Experiences like: running into a woman fading in and out of consciousness standing in the bathroom (probably just shot up) - and being totally blown off by employees when I'm trying to alert someone to help her! I approached security guard #1 who was comfortably seated on a bench facebooking on his phone. He watched me speak, and then COMPLETELY IGNORED ME and returned to his phone. I had to ask 2 more employees to help before I got to someone who grumbled something half sincere about investigating. They don't care. They don't HAVE to care... They won't ever care. When in the right-hand lane, driving in my car, stopped behind a bus or when on the 15 late at night and having another bus rider tell everyone that "this N^&&a don't smoke the crackrock" (he was right, but still, he could've asked), I think a little less of the RTD. Also, demanding exact change is, let's face it, total bullshit. If $2 isn't enough, then just charge $3 and don't inflate for 3 more years. In every other regard, the RTD is awesome. Where else can you get such great people watching, hear such interesting stories, have time to read, give your immune system a run for her money etc..? Worst customer service EVER!! I was going to DIA from Stapleton. The train showed up 55mn late!!!. It was -21 Celsius outside. Then on 61st Station they announced a delay of 20 to 30mn. After we waited 25mn on the train they asked everyone to get off bc the train won't make it to DIA, and a bus will show up any second to take us to DIA while TWO fk trains sitting in there. The bus took 25mn to show up... I ended up missing my flight!!! I hate you RTD! People be aware RTD will make you miss your flight. RTD is the best definition of the term Incompetent! read more

I take the 32 and 15 from downtown to Clermont and Colorado. The bus is rarely on time returning to downtown and sometimes it doesn't even come. Either the schedules are wrong or there is a bus driver taking a long break at the expense of a commuter. It's sad to say riding my bike saves time. Buses serve fill a need for people. For me it is one way I can contribute to saving the planet. Get with the program RTD and improve inner city buses. If they were timely more people would ride them. read more

Great, on time, light rail service. Otherwise I'd be leaving 1 star. Bus service is unreliable. Countless times I have waited for the 28/28B, sometimes over an hour before I decided to find another way home or to work. Customer service is poor: I've lost my phone on the light rail and every person I talked to said to talk to some one else. I've tried calling several times to find out how long I will be waiting for my bus. Each time I spend 20 minutes on hold, only to get disconnected and put back at the end of the queue. Rider alerts have never told me anything I actually need to know, such as the 28 line experiencing huge delays due to snow (even though traffic is normal everywhere else?) As with every transit system, prepare for rides with loud, obnoxious people who don't know how to control the volume of their voice or who think everyone has the same taste of music as them (and who also think there are two volume levels: off and full blast). read more

I would love to give the DASH a half a star but one will have to do! This is the most unreliable line of any Ive taken in my 8 years in Colorado. I've never witnessed a bus just not show up for its scheduled time slot, even if it's 20min late, but almost weekly the DASH will just not have a bus show up! at all! I have sat at stop waiting for over 30min and not seen a single bus go by when 2! We're scheduled during that time! At least give me some bullshit excuse for it, or just fix your schedule, and quit giving me false hope of getting somewhere on time. I come from Chicago and in the 22 years I lived there I never had a bus just not show up! And I expected that in a major city like Chicago, especially on the worst of snow days, or the busiest of mornings or afternoons read more

The 15 is a nightmare. I walk 15 minutes to another bus route just to try and avoid it. Drunk people screaming, not wearing masks, and way too overcrowded during the pandemic. Doesn't matter what time you get on; you will be dealing with this. The only thing the drivers can do is flash the "sorry bus full" sign, which rarely ever happens. read more

The public transportation is pretty fantastic here in Denver. I've been in the city twice and it's been fantastic. Some tips for the first timers: To go from the airport to Downtown Denver, take the AF bus. It's $10 one way, but it's a pretty nice charter bus. It' sure beats paying $50 for a cab. Make sure you have cash and exact change. The bus drivers can't make change for you and they don't take credit cards. If you're on 16th St, there's a free shuttle that goes up and down the street. There have been many times where I would walk down towards 16th St (even it was technically away from my destination) just to save myself from walking a few blocks. Well worth it. I think that's all the tips I have. But I'm glad its accessible and I'm glad it's cheap. read more

I'm a public transportation road warrior. Mainly because I'm too cheap to pay for downtown parking. I catch the daily F train to 16th and California daily. Depending on how late I am running in the morning determines what stop I pick it up at. Lately, I always catch it from the Broadway station because the morning just has not been working for me. The best thing about Denver's public transportation system is the ease of use and the cleanliness. A warning to you out-of-towners considering hoping on while visiting our great city. Move FAST! Especially if you are planning on traveling during the morning and evening weekday rush hours. The train waits for no one. I have seen families separated, and shoes lost while trying to catch the train. I do feel the drivers could pay better attention to who is boarding and un-boarding, but hey they have a schedule to keep! So move it people! read more

Took the light rail from LoDo to Fiddlers Green. Super easy, and it seemed as though several others had the same idea. The website was awesome - very self explanatory and gave me confidence so I knew exactly what to do when we got to the station. The train was clean and right on schedule. read more

Yesterday (7/24/18), I was trying to get on the 225 eastbound to Lafayette from the Broadway and Euclid station in Boulder. As I was getting on the bus, the driver decided it would be cool to stop me and harass me about my bus pass. He said it can't be a "discount bus pass" unless I'm a high school student or a senior citizen. He kept trying to argue with me about it so I decided fuck it and I'm just gonna get on another bus. So he said "good luck" as if he didn't think I would be able to, but right after that I got into the dash. So jokes on you. I filed a complaint so I hope he gets penalized at least for his behavior. read more

Since I have stopped driving, 3+ years ago, I have depended on RTD to get around to this and that. The system is amazingly easy to navigate, get nearly anywhere need to go with occasional shoe leather. My wife will get me home from Central Park Station when necessary according to her schedule. My nearest bus (#62) stop is a 7 minute walk from the house and then I am at the A commuter rail station. I am a frequent rider of the bus and light rail systems. A couple years ago, I became a statistic and got two DUIs. Since then, I have been forced to get acquainted with the Denver RTD system. I have seen many drivers and conductors. For the most part, RTD is really on top of their game. Like all businesses, they have their few employees that need some encouragement to care about their job. Thus far in my transit experiences, the light rail seems to be quite organized and is pretty accurate as far as their schedules go. The bus system is a lttle different. It is very hit and miss with the buses. I really have to plan any of my trips to make sure that I am going to be at my destination on time because more often than not, one of the buses is a few minutes late. What is even more upsetting is when the bus is already late, that the bus driver is less than pleasant and does not even call out the routes. From my understanding, it is the bus drivers respondsibility to call out the bus stops so that the patrons who may be new to the transit system are able to easily find their stop. To me, nothing is more frustrating that asking a bus driver for a a connecting route and having them not know or even give me attitude for asking, which has happened. Now I don't want to dwell on the negative because I have had MANY positive experiences on the RTD transit system. I make it a point to call in the bus drivers that do a good job every single time I get to ride their bus. When you have a bus driver that is courteous, willing to help you and others, on time for their route, no matter what excuse could pop up, and even recognizes me from past trips, is incredibly encouraging and honestly heart-warming. Since living in 5 points, I have seen a great spectrum of people and have found a lot of ugliness in our world. When I see a bus driver that cares about their job, I have a completely different attitude through out the day and it helps me to stay motivated throughout the day. I sincerely mean that! Nothing is worse than getting a grumpy bus driver that doesn't know their own route very well and then doesn't even acknowledge you when you still say thank you when exiting the bus. I say all of this to give RTD a compliment. Last night, I was going to see a friend for his birthday and ended up getting off at the wrong stop because the original bus driver who was about 20 minutes late and gave me wrong information. I was looking for a restaurant in Lakewood called, The Rock, and I informed the bus driver of all of that. Well, he let me off in Wheatridge, nowhere close to my destination. It was quite upsetting at first, but I decided to wait for a bus to go home because they don't run as often on Saturdays. When the 38 came to my stop, which was on 38th street. I forget the cross street, but I do remember that it was by a Dairy Queen that had a drive through. Hopefully that helps for some clarity on the area. As stated earlier, the town was Wheatridge. This bus driver totally redeemed my evening. I was sitting in the Dairy Queen talking to a couple students when I saw the bus and sprinted out to catch it before it left. Once I got on the bus, I couldn't find my monthly bus pass and began to panic. I asked if he would be willing to wait if I could go check in Dairy Queen for my pass. He waited for me! I was so thankful. I didn't find it, but the students I was speaking to gave me a couple bucks to get on the bus and get my ticket. After I got on the bus, and paid for my fare, I went to sit down and ended up finding my monthly bus pass. It was in a completely different spot in my wallet than where I normally kept it. I went to tell the bus driver. He laughed and said he knew that I had it, but was just waiting for me to find it. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the fact that the bus driver actually believed me and didn't think I was just a bum off the street trying to pull a fast one on him. He was really cool and I really appreciated him. Overall, I really enjoy riding the RTD transit systems. They buses and light rails are typically clean and the employess are typically on the ball. There are a few kinks that need to be worked out, but they do a good job! They have kept me from losing my job because of the helpful bus drivers. Keep up the good work RTD! I would give you a 5, but I would like to see you step it up just a tish. I know that you will and when I do I will gladly write another review and give only positive feedback. One last thing......I have to call for bus schedule times pretty frequently and the people on the other side of the line and almost always really helpful and courteous. A few that seem to mumble and not care, but as stated earlier, I know that they are working on their customer service. I have now said my peace. Thank you RTD for all you do! read more
