Read all the rave reviews but honestly didn't know what to expect. I got the tostada suprema which sounded delicious in the description. But it was basically a taco salad from Taco Bell. Even the meat tasted like it. I don't know.. the ambiance was fantastic definitely as we were seated upstairs and they had a band going on, but the food was a slight miss.

This place is amazing. A little off the main strip of the island, so it wasn't overly crowded. Service was impeccable and you can tell they really put care into the food they are serving. The Langosta Eggs Benedict with Pablano Hollandaise was exceptional, I'll be thinking about it for a long time. We also tried some of their tacos, and huevos ranchers, everything was a hit here. Highly recommend this establishment.

Good food and atmosphere! We sat on the second floor. It is colorfully decorated and a has a great open air area. I had the waffle with fresh fruit. It was very good! My husband had crunchy tacos and they were nicely done too. We were served quickly and attentively. We would go there again!

Don't pass this place by. It isn't anything to look out from the outside. Pastel colored building with paper signs scattered on the walls . They have all fresh Mexican offerings from Tortas, quesadilla, enchiladas, tacos , fresh fish, and tostados and much more. We had a party of 7, 5 adults and 2 kids. They were very accommodating moving tables to allow us to sit together. We had the mole enchiladas x3 , 1 chimichanga, ground beef tacos , quesadilla with shrimp , and one quesadilla with chicken. All the food arrived to the table hot. Lots of fresh ingredients and tasted great. We enjoyed our meal here and were pleasantly surprised by the freshness. All in was 78.00 this included food and tip. Great stop overall . It is in the center of town but further up than most people venture. Definitely a must try if your looking for authentic and fresh. This restaurant is cash only so bring your pesos .

Came to Mexico for vacation. It's a busy island with lots of options but we wanted to eat grilled lobsters. It did not disappoint. Super fresh and delicious. Everything came out fast. Our server Pablo was so attentive and friendly. The location is only a few minutes walk from the docks. There's no ocean views but your on an island so it's beautiful everywhere you eat. I would definitely recommend the lobster here.

Had Vegetarian lunch at Ruben's. We got combo red sauce and green sauce on the burrito like the green sauce better. If you like tangy the green is the way to go. The owner Ruben is very sociable and made for a great dining experience. It helped that there is a big fan blowing on us on the outdoor table. Spicy salsa is as described and delicious. They take credit cards as well. It was about $16 with tip for two burritos and fruit bowl using discover card which has no international fees. read more

This place was fantastic. The staff was pleasant and gave me a box so I could take what I could not eat to go. The Lobster Benedict was to die for and a steal at around $10. I'm pretty sure there was an entire lobster tail in the dish. Glad I found Ruben's on the first day of my trip to Isla. Will be back for more over the course of my trip. Prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious. They accept American dollars and currently the exchange rate there is 16 pesos. Was worth every penny. I can't wait to come back for the pasta carbonara and to try the tostadas! read more

On Trip Advisor everybody raves about this restaurant so we thought I would give it a try for breakfast - at first I wasn't not sure if I was at the right place since there was zero atmosphere here with a run down building with plastic tables and chairs. Coffee was average at best and my huevos rencheros was good but not worth more than 3 stars Not so sure how this restaurant is rated #1 for the island on Trip Advisor when there are so many other better options on the island read more

Nice service. Clean. Ordered divorced eggs over hard and Mexican scrambled eggs. Came with black bean purée, tortillas and rice (bland). Sauces on eggs were nice. Side order of habanero salsa was tasty. Solid food. read more

We went to Ruben's for lunch on the island - my boyfriend got pork tostadas and I got huevos motulenos. The tostadas were alright, almost too much lettuce toppings. However, the huevos motulenos were amazing. The sauce was so flavourable and the eggs were cooked to a runny perfection. read more

Came here for breakfast and I got the eggs Benedict. It was delicious, it came with a side of country potatoes and I couldn't get enough. I also was just the right amount of food. I love hot sauce so you have to ask for the salsa and they bring you a habanero and a red chili pepper salsa and the red chili pepper was my favorite I could drink it it was so good. read more

This is most definitely our 2nd favorite venue in Isla. We've been visiting Isla on the regular for the past 5 or 6 years and Ruben's is by far the best in flavors, types of dishes, THE PRICES, the outstanding service and location! The young man's name is escaping me but we saw him daily for 8 days and after a few times, he would just bring us either 2 coffees or 2 beers :-) after a few days, he either brought us two shrimp ceviche plates with cucumbers or 2 breakfast plates that were our favorite. It's funny but we never made it there for dinner? ;) We Love Love Love this venue! If you've never been, WHATCHO WAITING FOR? Ruben is now in charge of a foundation that helps kids in general - local children with food or toys! read more

Had the popular lobster Benedict dish and it did not disappoint, despite the fact that im not a big eggs benedict guy. I ordered it split with the 2 sauces and both were quite good but the poblano suace def won. Coffee was ok, a little to weak for my taste, esp since I had so many good coffees in mexico. But free refills was great. I opted to sit outside bec inside didn't look too inviting and it was hot.. little mom and pop shop type of place, nothing fancy. Outside area was cool but ants were everywhere, on the table even and bit at my feet and ankles. If you sit here make sure you are using pesticide. Service was good.. nice and attentively efficient staff. Overall I will be back and try for lunch, I have a feeling everything they make is really good and prices are reasonable. read more

All the food here is so fresh and delicious, that we came back twice! The salsas are freshly made and I fell in love with his salsa made with chili de arbols. We even got the pleasure to meet the owner Ruben. He was very pleasant and passionate about his cooking and it really showed in his food. The restaurant is small and simple, but it left a great impression on me and I definitely look forward to coming back here for the great food and service! read more

Absolutely excellent!!!! Add this to your list of places to eat while in Isla Mujeres. Came in for breakfast almost every morning of our week long trip. Had dinner and lunch here twice -- incredible and delicious food, excellent staff, very friendly and inviting. Rubens is authentic and charming!! A local gem, this is a cool place to grab a quick bite in Isla Mujeres. The prices are very very affordable! We Always like to eat at local places and this is a great find! It's a family owned joint and everyone is friendly. We came for dinner at around 9 and unfortunately they were about to close at 10. They didn't rush us or anything though. I had menú del día which was a great deal! I would recommend getting that! read more

My husband and I stayed at an all inclusive hotel on the island however read great reviews about Ruben's and decided to check it out. We were NOT disappointed at all. We were greeted by Ruben who is great. We sat down ordered a couple drinks and the quesadillas with spicy sausage (chorizo). It was a nice way to start off the meal. My husband had the fish diablo style while I had the Jambalaya. Both were delicious!! The prices were great however it is cash only. If you are thinking about whether or not you should go to Ruben's just do it you will be happy you did. read more

I ordered the chicken and cheese tacos (definitely order cheese on all tacos) and the beef tacos with no cheese (chicken was better only because of the cheese) but both were delicious nonetheless. Definitely order the sour scream on the side cause the meals don't automatically come with it. Pork chimichanga was also delish as well as the chicken nachos. Very happy we came. Julie is a sweet heart first of all! Second the food here is amazing! I had the Chimichanga (green style) and my wife had the enchiladas mole and they were both fantastic! So I looked this place up since we took the ferry to Isla mujeres. My husband is very very picky and critical when it comes to food and he ordered the shrimp tacos and was wowed!!!! He said, and I quote "these are slammin" they are perfect and he would have liked to stay longer just to eat more but we had to catch the ferry back. Aug 2016 - Ruben's was a great find on Isla Mujeres! Great food and service at a very fair price. Our family really enjoyed everything we ordered and they went out of their way to help us with our vegetarian choices and yes some special made to order requests. We met Ruben while there and he was an amazing host and treated us like extended family. If you don't see it on the menu, just ask and Ruben's will take great care of you! read more
