This place deserves more stars that its current average rating. The only reason I can think of that people may rate it low is that it is slightly overpriced. They also add a 20% service charge, but not tips expected. The pastas are great, so are the vibe and the service. We tried the carbonara, the rigatoni with sausage and the ragú tagliatelle. All aldente, all made well and authentic, and pretty delicious. The carbonara did not have any cream added and was the real deal. It has garlic, which was a little unusual but good. We had just been to Marymoor dog park so we were happy to see the park across the street with tables that we could eat at with our dogs. The salmon was a generous portion & the cream cheese is just delicious as well as the red onion & capers. Nice looking options on the menu but the bread was burnt and wasn't as good as other places I've tried such as cinque Terre ristorante. They ran out of bucatini unfortunately. We rushed to try Ethan Stowell's new location of Tavolata. Unfortunately the service, food, and ambiance were all lacking. First Impressions- Upon being seated, the family next to me was visibly struggling to get the attention of wait staff. They told the wait staff their entree was taking too long and had to leave. The head chef came to their table next to us and offered to pack it up free of charge. Appetizer- We ordered the grilled green bean appetizer which was $17 I believe and it was served in a large shot glass. Less than 50 cents worth of raw ingredients. Horrible pricing and completely not worth it. Ambiance- it's strange that this restaurant is tagged as romantic because that's not the vibe I was getting. The vibe they were going for was confusing since they had a main dining area, but also a lounge area where you sat on low sofas and would have to lean forward and down to eat food off a coffee table? We opted for the main dining area. Food & Wait times- The pastas took a long time. They were decent but slightly overpriced. We tried one from the specials: the truffle ravioli and while the amount of shaved truffles was nice, the serving only had 5 ravioli. For a $30+ dish, that's around $6+ a ravioli. When we visited they had been open for around a month. It was clear their staff was not operating efficiently yet. The location in Redmond is finally open!!! My husband and I finally got to try their bagels this past weekend. He got a traditional breakfast bagel (egg, cheese, bacon) in everything wheat and I got the avocado toast with goat cheese, radishes, and pickled red onion on a garlic bagel. The flavor of the bagel tasted good but because their toaster was broken that day, the bagel tasted extra tough and chewy. They told us they toasted it in the oven but it didn't do a great job with the toasting. I would want to try their bagels after it's been properly toasted (texture is so important with a bagel!) The only other thing I noticed about the bagels is that only the top of the bagel has all the seasonings - for example, for my garlic bagel, it appeared that all the garlic was concentrated on the top and not much on the bottom of the bagel. If I'm eating my bagel open faced (like the avocado toast) I would want my bottom half of my bagel to also have as much garlic as the top. Other than that, great location and space! We got our bagels to go so didn't get to enjoy eating it there. They still have a few kinks to work out (broken toaster) but definitely a great addition to the bagel scene on the east side! read more

The space here is enormous and has such beautiful lighting in the morning! There was no one else in when I arrived and ordered 4 items for take out: rosemary bagel, shallot bagel, everything bagel, and the chorizo sandwich. it took about 10-15 minutes for these items to be ready. I'm not sure about if I were to eat the bagels right there when they were ready in the shop, but when I got home, the bagels were pretty hard and chewy. They are very flavorful though, so you have to get a jaw workout in for the flavor payout. I tried to use an ESR giftcard and was told they don't work there. read more

TL;DR not a bad bagel shop if you're in the area it's worth a try. I went in during the week day morning and it was quite calm. The staff was friendly but a bit hard to hear. The music inside was a little loud but they had a clean interior. I ordered the mocha and a game and cheese bagel sandwich on a garlic bagel. It wasn't bad but it wasn't fantastic. I thought there was a too much ham compared to the cheese and egg. The taste of the ham was good but just overwhelming so you couldn't really taste anything else. I also got an iced mocha which turned out pretty good. Probably would stop again if I needed something quick as it didn't take long to come out at all. read more

Having dined at Tavolata Stoneway, we were invited to the private, exclusive friends & family dining before they officially open to the public on Tuesday. We did what we usually do at ESR restaurants. Start with bread, salad, move on to pastas and wash everything down with a delicious bottle of wine. Thanks for replying Ally. I understand and agree with paying a fair wage. Service is an integral part of sitting down at a restaurant so there is no point in highlighting a separate "service charge." If it's mandatory, it should be reflected in the price of the food. Gratuity is important to encouraging good service and it should be up to the customer. I don't agree that a mandatory service charge is a "modern" approach. Yes, it is a trend that restaurants are pushing but it creates perverse behavior. A gratuity decided by the customer incentivizes the right behavior and makes your job as a manger easier because the customers are helping drive the right behavior. Many other industries are moving to a pay for performance model while restaurants are moving backwards. Based on reading the reviews, a great many of your customers feel the same way. I will try Tavolata (ESR) again but only if the 22% mandatory service charge is removed. read more

The patio seating was perfect on a warm, late summer evening! We tried the focaccia and burrata appetizers - both were delicious and perfectly sized to share amongst our group of 4. For entrees, we each ordered a different pasta, including the pappardelle, rigatoni, ravioli, and bucatini. All of them were amazing and you could tell the noodles were freshly made. The bucatini was made carbonara style with a fresh egg yolk on top, something we haven't been able to find at many places and reminded us of yummy eats in Europe! Only con was that it was a little expensive, plus the automatic 22% service charge which is by far the highest I've seen at a restaurant like this. The only redeeming part of this review was the appetizers. They actually had taste. The pasta courses were atrocious. The bucatini was worse than butter noodles and Parmesan cheese at home. Just absolutely tasteless. The rigatoni was decent at best but was served to us luke warm. The brown butter ravioli was also tasteless. I don't know how you can drowned flavors out of food but this kitchen is great at it. To top it off at the end when the service was not very good. Our server said Ethan Stoll is getting rid of tipping so you don't have to worry about it. Lucky for them because the service and timing of food wasn't anything exceptional.
