It kills me when I look at sets of reviews and all I see are 5's and 1's. Do people understand what a range means? A 5 is flawless or nearly so, in all aspects of food, service and environment. A 1 is the lowest possible rating (there are no zeroes) so thats basically no redeeming quality. You just dont find places that are 5's in general--they are RARE. 1's, well, sadly there are far too many of those around. Imo they should give us a 10 point scale to be realistic but /rant off I ate at this place back in the say when it was the "old name". Saw it was a new name now but basically serving most of the same stuff for more $$$ so I was skeptically hopeful.... Sadly, that hope was misplaced We crashed the place with my hungry family and tried a large cross section of the food to give it a fair shot. In general the 1 star rater described it pretty close--most of the food here is bland at a minimum. Here's the list and short eval: Barbacoa - best of the meats, but thats a low bar El Pastor - tough as shoe leather, no pineapple flavor, bland Steak - bland bland bland Guac - not bad but needs salt and lime (flavor plz) Chips - frustratingly thin. Think single ply, always breaking when you try to scoop anything Fries - average fries. Good length at least not bits, not coated with crap, but just mid Cheese curds - absolutely vile! I don't know what they fried these things in but they were inedible! We threw them all away. The oil must have been ancient or something. Onion rings - not bad actually. From a bag clearly. At least the batter sticks and its a real single onion slice onside Cubano - holy crap can they put any more mustard on that thing?! Just tastes like mustard--no other flavor Bacon Gazmo Burger - not horrible but not worth coming back for. Cooked to death beef, decent bun, nice aioli. Bottom bun lost due to being soaked in grease. Philly Steak - just literally a no flavor experience. How can all those ingredients be so tasteless? Most of your "meal" choices are going to end up costing you around $15+ when its all said and done. You can do that easily anywhere and that's the comparison for this (fast food) place. You can definitely do better for your dollar in the Forest Lake area. read more

Ordered Rubio's for a family gathering meal. The food was delicious. We had the chicken and barbacoa meat, rice, black beans, corn, fresh pico, fresh lettuce and cheese with guacamole extra. This is a good option as an alternative to Chipotle. They also server burgers, sandwiches and malts. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance: The restaurant is basically the same as it has been, but it appears they are having some work done on the front facade. Very large, open space with several areas to sit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service: The workers were attentive and friendly. Everything is clean, organized and packaged well for dining in or taking out. Food: The more authentic flavor of the meats set them apart from other Mexican burrito chains. Both Pastor and Chicken burritos have been excellent. The medium salsa has great flavor and a good kick. Haven't tried hot yet. Burritos are offered with black or pinto beans, and a "Mexican rice with good flavor. If you miss the cilantro in the rice, just ask for it as a topping. Price: Reasonable prices - around $10 per burrito/bowl. I have not tried a burger yet but saw a few served while I was there and they look very good. I got a burrito. The pastor was flavorful and there were a lot of options for mix ins. The burrito was giant and they even give you some homemade chips on the side as a bonus. Loved it. My only nitpick is that their hottest salsa isn't very spicy, but I should note that I have a high spice tolerance. I hope this place thrives because it is so nice having an alternative to Chipotle.
