Best carnitas I've ever had! Came here on a Wednesday evening since I was in the area and I was craving Mexican food. Got sat right away, chips and salsa served immediately. Our server was quick, asking for a drink order without any time to look at the menu. If I knew what I wanted, I would've been grateful. Ordered the carnitas tacos and choriqueso. The choriqueso was good, nothing out of the world. But the carnitas? AMAZING. It was charred a little and the corn tortillas were toasted. I'm surprised I've had the best carnitas I've her had in Forest Lake Minnesota??? But seriously. It was heavenly. I've genuinely tried to like this place, but after multiple visits, I cannot. 1st visit was a little after they opened and the service was terrible. No one knew who had our table and the waiter who thought he had us, decided to take his attitude out on us. The food that day was mediocre at best with pricing much higher then it should be. Our 2nd visit was the total opposite; bad food good service. The young lady serving us was sweet and on the ball with refills etc. Our last visit was the worst of both. Another attitude filled waiter (with no apparent reasoning) and food that none of us were willing to eat, it was so bad I definitely recommend avoiding this restaurant. read more

We took our daughter there for lunch. It was pretty empty and I was a little anxious about being there. The waiter came right over with menu's and water. There was a full menu along with a lunch menu with specials. We ordered the shrimp Chimi (which was huge and stuffed with big shrimp), the lunch Chimi and the beef, chicken shrimp?? dish along with a huge and delicious Margarita. The food was great and some of the best Mexican dishes we've had. No complaints. Waiter was very attentive and pleasant. By the way, lots of people came in after us. Came with some friends who are local and love this place. The menu is huge! I wasn't quite sure what to order but I always enjoy taquitos so that is what I chose. They were not rolled thin like I'm used to, they were more like small burritos, no complaints as the chicken and beef inside (2 if each) was super tasty and actually stayed moist! Rice had great flavor. My husband had the loco nachos and they were super good and loaded up with meat just like he was hoping. Our friends ordered a fajita dinner to share and it was massive. Each had their own side plate with rice, lettuce etc... that's a nice touch! They had plenty of leftovers, we ate all of ours. read more

My family and I went to lunch at Rancho Loco in Forest Lake. There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived which surprised us since there was a lot of activity at the lake and the parking lot was packed. The waiter brought us chips and salsa. The chips were fine...the salsa was just a generic tomato salsa. There was no hint of fresh vegetables in it - just the plain salsa you'd get in the jar in the grocery store. We were given one-sheet lunch menus and then the full menu that had appetizers, lunch and dinner items, and drinks. There were many options for lunch, and even more for dinner. Three of us ordered from the lunch menu and one ordered from the big menu. The food came relatively quickly and in stages - one person's meal at a time. So, that was kind of awkward to have to wait until everyone's meal came out to start eating. It would have been better to bring it all out at once. The sizzling fajitas were nicely grilled as were the trio of meats (steak, chicken, and shrimp). Although good, none of the food was overly spicy or flavorful. Having come back from London earlier in the month where all the meals we had were spectacular, it was somewhat disappointing - though not surprising - that the food was bland. The refried beans and rice had no flavor. One of my daughters asked for a spicy salsa so she could put that over her meal. She said it tasted better that way. Would we come back again? Probably not. However, we enjoyed the view of the lake while trying a new restaurant in the area. It's always good to support small businesses, and by having lunch here we did just that. read more

We really enjoyed this! We recently moved here from WV, But before that we were in Austin Texas so we had been grieving the loss of good Mexican food since leaving Texas. This fit the bill pretty well! Hubs and I shared the large Texas margarita (yum!) and we tried several entrees (patty of four). Chimichanga, burrito and fajitas. All were excellent! Salsa with the chips was very flavorful and zippy. Pico was phenomenal. Excellent service and it was so nice to sit and see the lake across the street. We will Definitely be back!! read more

I will drop a five star rating - all things considered. First, to those reviews about service, I will say ours was perfect. We actually went in "looking" for poor service and ours was great. From the greeting to the to-go box, we were treated well. Good menu - lots of options and some I would like to try. Portions are great and with the chips and salsa you shouldn't leave hungry. Frozen margaritas were nothing to get overly excited about but pared well with our meal. Place was clean, servers were attentive and the pricing was good. My only negative was that the music was too loud and was not playing correctly. Being that it was so loud you could really hear the "buffering" (assuming they are streaming) and that makes people louder too. We just laughed it off but if the dial was at a 7, they could take it to a 5 and still keep the place filled with ambiance. Another Mexican review...and for MN, this place is good. read more

This new restaurant has a lot of options in their menu. Service is great and the food is delicious. It is not a fancy place, but definitely a great addition to forest lake. The portions are huge, low prices, good service and great flavor. We were surprised with the authenticity of this place, they were playing latin music ( which I love!) and the food was better than I expected. We ordered Alambre and Bacon Wrapped burrito. The place has a nice little setting with booths on the outer part and nice views of the parking lot with a lake behind it. I got the big supreme burrito and I'd get it again. I made two meals out of it. Chips and salsa were typical but the refried beans were, I'll say, different. House Margarita was terrible, premium margarita was better, but $15?? First time I've had a chimichanga that was not even deep fried.. baked? Flavorless. Salsa was watery and a meager portion. Chips were thick and tasteless. Aren't these the basics at a Mexican restaurant? Our server was very young and completely uninterested in her job, we watched another server pull right up and park next to the entrance, sure hope no one handicapped needed that spot. We really enjoyed the white queso and the salsa, those two things almost make this place worth trying again when we come back to Minnesota. The nachos were boring because it was basically chips with the queso dumped on it, but they were fine, just like the taco salad, adequate. The main issue here though is the service. Our waiter was just in his own world. There were maybe 3 tables for lunch there and we were his only table, but he never came around, and when he did check in he just casually strolled up and we still had to ask for refills. The food was good, but the margaritas were like a weird blue/green color that threw me off. They tasted good though. Only issue was the service.
