Update: The business owner replied to my comments (see below) and while I have always been aware of the "Taco Tuesday" deals, I passed through town on a Monday so that didn't help me on my visit. However I was unaware of the $7 deal with two tacos and a drink. The menu is huge and I didn't want to stand there scrolling through everything on the touchscreen so I just skipped to the taco section. But at no point during the ordering process did any employees ask if I needed help or if I had any questions. I'm from California and I went to Rubio's all the time when I was a kid but I stopped going after the company rebranded into this fast-casual dining model, or whatever they're trying to be. I used to be able to get a bag of fish tacos for cheap but now? Not so much. I haven't been to a Rubio's in over ten years and I've never been to one in Arizona. I didn't know there were any here. I went in to get a bunch of classic fish tacos like the old days and I walked out with exactly two tacos because they were $5 each. No way are these tacos worth $5. Same size and same taste from what I remember. Now more than double the price. Sorry, but this is the last time I visit a Rubio's. I'm surprised this company is still in business. Could you imagine hating your job so damn much that you serve tortillas that weren't even heated, and because it was toward the end of the day you refused to actual provide the customer with even a fraction of the order? Like this is my actual taco. It's bad enough that you closed the grill prior to 8pm closing time, but so spiteful about the fact that your company just wants you to do your job if you're getting paid that you actually serve a customer a taco with a piece of fish actually smaller than my thumb? Rude and and incompetent staff. The woman who appeared to be a manager had complete disdain for the customers standing in line and waiting for pick up orders. I placed order for pick up. My fault for not verifying what was in the bag before I left...again. The receipt and actual contents were different. Pretty typical at this location. My family and I have come here for years, and we always dine-in. I'd like to make a suggestion. Could you designate a "waiting for take out" section? Tonight was a perfect example. Six individuals were waiting for their takeout orders, and all six were sitting at individual tables by themselves. There were no places for dine-in customers to sit! All of these individuals were looking at their phones and oblivious that they were taking up entire tables meant for four, plus a six-seater! It was too chilly to sit outside. We love this chain and this location was great. When my husband and I were first dating, we would go to the location near my place. We always enjoyed the food. We moved to Texas two years ago and were back in Arizona visiting family over a long weekend. My husband had mentioned a couple of times wanting to try to go to a Rubio's while in town. The food is always fresh and delicious. I always get the California Bowl with chicken. It is filling and the ingredients are well balanced. Something I get the verde salsa, sometimes the red. Both are wonderful and complimentary to the other ingredients. My husband always gets the shrimp burrito. He always enjoys it. I tend to steal some of his chips. The location is very clean. The staff is pleasant and the prep time is reasonable. There are a lot of other very good looking items on the menu, but we tend to stick with the same thing because it is so good, filling, and satisfying. Terrible Lunch. Rubio'a used to be my go to place for fish tacos and shrimps burritos when I lived in San Diego and Las Vegas. After recently moving to Tucson I thought I'd try them again. What a huge disappointment. I ordered the fish tacos and they weee awful. A very small piece of fish barely covered in an extremely small amount of cabbage and that's ion a cold corn tortilla. I ordered tha meal whhh it ch was supposed to come with chips and beans but neither was given. I also ordered the shrimp burrito which barley had any shrimp and tasted bland and again was supposed to come with beans and chips but was missing the beans. Dinner for 11 last night including several very young children. Everyone found something on the menu they wanted (minor miracle), and enjoyed their meal. I've been coming here since I moved to Tucson in 2009. We stretched the kitchen's capabilities by our very large order (over $100 for 11 people, which still is pretty reasonable). We came here because we had brought 3 of our guests here during their previous visit, and they enjoyed it so much they wanted to return. I normally get the fish tacos, but this time splurged on the Especial version (see photo below). They were pretty good, but I think because our order was so large they sat under a warmer for a while and the fish was not quite as crispy as I have experienced in prior visits. Still tasted wonderful. My wife got a steak burrito (see photo). It could have been a little warmer, again probably because of the large order, but it still tasted excellent. She only could eat about half if it, very filling, and it was my duty to finish it off, a challenge I completed with pleasure. Everyone else in our party really enjoyed their meals. Since our ages ranged from 64 to 1 yo, it was nice that everyone could find something that appealed to them. The menu is pretty extensive. I get some of the negative reviews - this is not an authentic Mexican taco stand like you would see on Tucson's South side serving cabeza tacos. It is good food, well-prepared with good flavors but somewhat Americanized, nice salsa bar (I like the chipotle), and clean (but small) seating. I'm not a fan of standard Mexican fast food, as I find it repetitive and boring. On the other hand, seafood from this cuisine, when done right is something I'll go to again and again. Rubio's does it right. Salsa tastes fresh, swordfish and wild salmon were tasty and fresh as well. My daughter loves a good burrito and before I knew it, it was gone. The doors came out relatively fast, not McDonald's fast but reasonable. Food was hot which isn't always the car with this type of fast food. My only gripe was the slightly small portion of salmon on my taco. It wasn't tiny but it was a bit less than I would expect for the price. Would I go back again? Yes. Would I order the wild salmon taco? Probably not. All in all, a solid place for Mexican food that isn't cookie cutter. read more

We ordered take out through door dash. It was specifically a pick up order. When I arrived and saw that my food was gone the leadership said that the order was already picked up for delivery. I showed them the order confirmation, and I told them that it was for pick up. The leadership was rude, they didn't apologize, and said they would fix the order now, but next time they wouldn't. I love the Rubio's close to my house where service and customer satisfaction are important. This location is the most disappointing Rubio's experience I've ever had. We could not understand the cashier's speech even after asking her to slow down. I always order 3 fish taco especials no tortilla and in a bowl. Never had a problem at 15 other locations. Here Christina the manager delivered three fried fish on a plate with a little cabbage. I had to tell her 3 times they are "Especial". Finally I had to tell Christina what ingredients are required. She offered guacamole in a cup. I went back to the counter and asked Christina to remake it and include all of the ingredients this time. They failed to include the cheese. I gave up and just ate it. We ordered a plain kids quesadilla and yes they even screwed up that order. It was 15 minutes and 4 employees to fix the screw up at the register. Dishes and silverware are used here and this place reeks of cuteness however the food definitely is not on par. Tacos are okay, salsa is not too bad but what we love is how there's a salsa bar. Tim got the street tacos. If you don't like corn, get flour tortillas (make sure you ask prior to getting the food) and their beans are decent. Everything is freshly made but it's just a basis of taste preference that either drives people to or away from this place. Definitely worth a try. Gave 4 stars because service was very good. I love coming here for my tacos plus my kids love their kids meal. I can order my tacos exactly the way I like them and get the sides I want. My kids love their churros. I didn't even know they had churros before my kids. They are very tasty with tons of cinnamon and sugar just they way they should be. The kids get a choice of organic milk, organic Apple juice or a fountain drink. I think it's a pretty good deal and they always eat all their food. Today when I arrived the line was out the door, but they seemed to move the line fairly quickly and there was still plenty of seats available. Last time I came with my kids there wasn't an open table and people had to wait. This seems to be the place to come for lunch. The order was placed in an unsuitable container. The Tacos consisted of a lot of sliced cabbage and a small portion of fish . One dinner guest remarked that compared to last week's order this fish tasted old. No guacamole or cheese or cilantro/onion or lime wedges.No sauce. A major disappointment. Do Not get me wrong I love this restaurant. However this time was definitely not my best visit... My food looked and tasted great, until I got to the bottom of my Mexican corn bowl. I found a black short hair in the bottom of the bowl mixed in with my food. Yes realistically it's gonna happen at least once or twice when you choose to eat out, but I was just grossed out knowing I ate that whole bowl then I find a hair from a stranger in my food.
