This review is for the amazing staff at this location! I've always loved Rubio's food (the Grilled Gourmet Chicken Taco Plate is my forever fave) and even worked there as a teenager, but when I suddenly got an email saying "thanks for your order" from this location, I panicked--I don't even live in San Diego so my Rubio's account must have been hacked. Someone living there charged $82 to my card for a big delivery order. I immediately called them here asking for the order to be cancelled and to possibly get a refund. I wasn't sure what to expect and was just so freaked out by the hack. Both the employee I spoke with and the manager he put me on the phone with were so helpful and understanding of my situation. They did everything necessary to stop the order as it was being made, even finding a way to refund it to my card from their restaurant. It made me feel so much better even as I had to cancel my credit card and secure my accounts afterward. Aside from the awesome food at every Rubio's I've ever been to, the staff here is seriously so wonderful and considerate. Sending down a big THANK YOU from Orange County! You're all the best! I wasn't expecting much when I decided to go to this Rubios for lunch today but I was very pleasantly surprised. Based on other recent reviews it seems like it could be hit or miss. For me today was definitely a five star day. The restaurant was very clean and bright. The cashier was friendly and knowledgeable about allergens in the food. I ordered the Cilantro Lime Bowl with Salmon. Unfortunately I started eating before I took a picture (I didn't think this visit was going to be review worthy) but the food was fresh and delicious. Plus, all the Rubios I have ever been to are typically out of spicy carrots and I usually have to ask the back if they have more but this Rubios was well stocked. It could have been a timing thing or I just got lucky, but I'd like to believe they are working hard to provide good food with great service. At least that is what I experienced today! read more

I really like their mexican-coastal inspired dishes, which is a unique cuisine for a fast food space. I like to order pickup from the Mission Valley location, and they always make my order within 10-15 minutes, which is the time it takes for me to drive over. I also made an account on their website and order from there so I get rewards (for example I got a free cookie for my half birthday!). Sometimes my orders are hit or miss. For the most part, my food tastes good, but I have gotten some orders that aren't made well (like the food being cold or soggy or just doesn't taste up to par). food I've ordered before: - fish taco especial plate & original fish taco plate: they have good fish tacos! I love the crispy batter and white sauce (I believe the especial is the same but adds cheese and guac). I like getting the plate with chips and beans. Came in to order dinner for my family and was told right when we walked up that there was a long wait for orders because they had so many online orders, I said that's fine we can wait. While the cashier took my order, he was very rude to me and my young son while constantly asking after every item ordered "is that all" over and over again so I paused and said "no I'm sorry, we have a larger order for my family and had a few more things to add" Then he walked away and came back and said, oh are you still ordering? This was by far the worst experience we have had at a Rubios or any restaurant/food service for that matter. I love Rubio's. It's quick, affordable and fresh. I have never had an issue with service at this location. Employees are always friendly and super helpful. I'm giving 3 stars because the portions are a little skimpy. I even paid for extra protein and it was still skimpy. This happens whether I doordash the order or pickup. Rubios is definitely going downhill! I usually order from this location often, but my last two experiences has been awful! A few weeks ago I ordered a Avocado Taco Corn salad through door dash. When I received it the jalapeño ranch dressing was spoiled, like they left it in a warmer! It was so old that the portion cup was about to explode. Today I ordered the same salad again through door dash and paid extra for jalapeño dressing! When I received both dressings, I was disgusted! The dressing was runny & so thin I threw it out! Have you ever been discriminated against right as you walked through the door of a restaurant? I have and I experienced it at this Rubio's location. My employees and I have been coming to this Rubio's for years. It is a one of my go-to lunch spots that I have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars with over the years. But never again. The four of us (including a baby) walked through the door and was rudely told if we did not have a mask, we were not allowed to eat there. I asked if we could quickly put in our order and sit outside and was told promptly no. They would not serve us. I've never been so blatantly discriminated against in my life. Tonight I bought a salmon burrito and a salmon fish taco order. The person ringing me up named Beatriz not only over charged me but screwed up my refund as well. The store just closed so I can't go back and try to dispute my issue. My whole order cost $32.18. Last minute we cancelled the taco order so I should only be paying for the burrito but she only refunded me less than $5 when I paid for $32 dollars. I don't realize this until I got home and saw the receipt. I am never going back to this place. If you see Beatriz just walk away cuz she might do the same to you. I used to eat at the Rubio's in Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I loved their Avocado Taco Salad and would eat it once a week. Then they closed down that store. Yesterday I ordered one at this Rubio's and boy was I disappointed. The lettuce was wilted and turning brown the Avocado was brown. It was gross looking. I ate what I could and threw away the rest. I understand Rubio's is having financial problems but I doubt lowering the quality of the food you serve will help you make more money or hang on to your customer base. read more

I am writing this review to applaud DINESTI, the restaurant Manager of the Rubio's Coastal Grill on Mission Gorge [SD 92120]. She was working the Register this evening and this"review" is particularly addressed to commend DINESTI for her customer service skills, genuine and happy smile, as well as her significant attention to detail. Not only did DINESTI take the time to go through each of the options that come with our meals, but identified the differences in the three (3) varieties of shrimp tacos for us to choose. We selected the soft tortilla shells because we did not want them to be grilled with oil; and, we added black beans, rice, cabbage, avocado and mild salsa. Before concluding the order, DINESTI then inquired if we wanted anything to drink and desert. She exhibited he type of heartfelt attentiveness you might expect at a fine diner, but it was so great to have this service at a local eatery. Take it from me, ask whether she is working before you go there to be able to not only enjoy their outstanding food, but to enjoy the care and appreciation that is exemplified by a truly superb Manager. I don't come here very often but I think that will be changing. Langostino is seasonal and back on the menu! I was sold when I saw the sign. We ordered the Langostino lobster burrito with $4 off 2 entree check in deal! I was surprised to find they do not skimp on the lobster. It's wrapped with a tortilla wrapped filled with black beans, rice, lobster, salsa fresca and guacamole. It comes with a side of tortilla chips. I like squeezing a bit of lime juice on each bite with a hit of the green salsa which is very mild. They offer other salsas that vary in spice. And if you don't like salsa they offer hot sauces. The burrito is very fresh and light. I don't walk away feeling bloated or sick. This location has easy parking and is in the same shopping center as Jamba Juice. It's hard to argue with the flavors of Rubios. I don't have any major complaints against the restaurant chain as a whole. However I do have one big complaint about this location in particular. I live right down the street so I have gone to this restaurant a handful of times. For some reason this location really scrimps on the portion size of their burritos. I go to other locations and their portion size is fine but this location always makes burritos that look like a deflated tire. I've complained once before and the manager was nice enough to make it again but after having complained to the manager once, I don't want to have to keep doing that over and over again just so they'll make it correctly. If I'm paying $14 for a burrito, I don't want to feel like I'm getting screwed on the portion. I'll just go to the local taco shop and get a fuller burrito for $8 next time. read more

We just had the best dining experience at the Rubio's in Grandville off of Mission Gorge Road. Thought we were just going into grab a quick bite to eat but ended up having a very well-rounded and pleasant experience. The restaurant was sparkly clean and the best service we could ask for. Mario, The manager, really treated us as if we were in a five-star restaurant! I had the beer battered fish taco along with a salsa Verde grilled shrimp taco. For dessert I had a warm churro covered in cinnamon and sugar. There is a variety of fresh salsas at their self-serve salsa bar to choose from. When the outta towners asked what was good---she had no clue. When asked about which was better, she had no clue. What was most popular, no clue. Then she said she doesn't eat seafood so she can't give an opinion about the fish tacos nor shrimp tacos. MANAGER: why hire someone who doesn't care about your main "products?" 3. Took us forever to get our food----there were no customers behind us or in front of us. 4. I ordered The Original Fish tacos----old batter, very dry -- almost burnt. It was horrible! I could barely taste any fish. Felt like I was just eating old, burnt batter. I felt embarrassed to have taken them to this location (especially after telling them how they must try this place)----they weren't impressed at all. I don't blame them. I'm not a fan of where the price of eating out is, these days. Costs $15 or more per person to eat anywhere. However, Taco Tuesdays here are extremely reasonable: feels like dining out in the early 2010s. The girl at the register is handling the sole register and serving food and making it look easy so I wanted to give them props. Food is amazing as are the salsa and the drinks. Then we went in yesterday, ordered from the strange menu, took it home and could not believe the poor quality. I paid $4.79 for a fish taco that had a tough hunk of something, a small amount of cold slaw and some runny sauce in a street taco mini tortillas. Side of guacamole was strange half mashed green stuff. The side included a very small amount of chips, crisp but half were crushed crumbs. We are heart broken that this wonderful place to eat has been destroyed. The menu said 'classic taco'. He asked me 'fish?' Neither of us knew what I would be given. The other menu items also had ambiguous means with ridiculous prices. Over the years we have ordered large trays of excellent food. We need to find some other place. Very sad. We often frequent this Rubio's and love their fish taco plates but on our last two visits both plates were cold and fish tasted fishy, definitely smelled like rotten fish and made us both very ill with horrible stomach discomfort. We definitely got food poisoning and confirmed by Sharp Memorial ER. Coming from a family in the fish-industry and fish and game The fish was rotten. The fishy taste is bacteria and already spoiled. This has occurred multiple times and Rubio's Corporate definitely needs to address because the service has declined and food presentation has been unappetizing and especially that it's served cold.
