Turkish Coffee flanked by foliage on the wall
    Josh W.

"Is this a cafe or a spa?" When we walked in, our family were the only customers in the store and the barista greeted us with a calm, friendly demeanor. Soft music played overhead and a fragrant candle burned in the corner. The foliage lined walls made me start thinking we walked into the wrong place. We were about to have an experience not a lunch; what we thought was going to be a simple stop, turned into a three course private meal (without a reservation!) if you count coffee. The Turkish coffee was so robust and flavorful, the croissant so fresh and buttery, the toast so perfectly seasoned, and the açaí bowl so brilliant in the basics. The food was a labor of love and diligence. For those looking for the quick fix, your spot is on the other side of the plaza (you know who you are). Come here when you want an experience. We were so impressed we decided to try a desert; be careful promising deserts to kids who eat all their food. The pistachio baklava did not disappoint. I am most impressed with Mikara's ability to do so many things so well. The menu was vast for such a small spot and the range of items we tasted tested that. The food tested so fresh and crafted with care. The cafe was a haven from the hustle and bustle outside and I -for one - am here for it.

A long-overdue review of Mikara under its new management: the customer service is genuinely some of the best you'll ever experience in a casual restaurant setting, and the salmon toast is hands down the best I've ever had. Marcus, the new owner, creates such a welcoming atmosphere with his hospitality and attention to every guest that you can tell he truly cares about the experience people have when they walk through the door. Every detail, from the warm service to the quality of the food, makes this place stand out.

Mikara Cafe underwent an ownership change earlier this year after the suite had been the home of an Italian-style cafe. The layout of the space was clean and modern with several tables for on-site dining. There were plenty of open spots in the parking lot as this section of the plaza didn't appear to be as busy as other parts. The menu was more traditional and wasn't focused on Italian fare. Hot drinks, iced drinks, shakes, and smoothies were the beverage categories. The hot drinks were available in 12 and 16 oz sizes while the other categories only had a 16 oz serving. For food, the choices ranged from acai bowls, toasts/sandwiches, parfaits, salads, and sweet creations. I planned to hang around a bit to use their free WiFi so I chose a Mango Smoothie and an Eggs, Ham, and Cheese Sandwich. The smoothie was standard with a good fruity taste. The sandwich consisted of scrambled eggs, Swiss cheese (my choice), and thin slices of ham on a croissant. I liked the use of a croissant over regular bread because it was buttery and flaky. The staff was very pleasant and welcoming during my visit. I gave my experience at Mikara Cafe an easy four star rating.

Plenty of parking spaces shared in a huge shopping lot. Have gender specific restrooms available. Seating inside and outside. You order at the counter, then serve yourself once your order is ready. We got the classic açaí and Dubai crepe. The açaí came with fresh strawberries and bananas. Not out of the ordinary but it was refreshing and a good amount for $11. The $14 Dubai crepe came with a lot of Nutella spread between the crepe and on top. Carefully placed fresh strawberries covered the top along with pistachio cream, kunafa and pistachio crumbles. I wish the kunafa would have been a bit more crunchy as it was a bit on the soft/stale side. With the thin crepe and sweetness, it was still good. The cafe was clean and the staff were super friendly and polite. It looked like they had a lot of regulars that came by who knew them by first name basis.

I recently returned to Mikara Cafe and had the Iced Pistachio Latte and their Peanut Butter Banana Toast and they were delicious. The pistachio Latte was one of the best I have had in San Diego! It's not a surprise since they use a real pistachio powder, not those flavored syrups, and real chopped pistachios in the beverage. It is delicious and you get that terrific pistachio flavor right up front, followed by the espresso, and then the rest of the ingredients. It's a great Pistachio Latte available hot or cold. The peanut butter banana and nutella toast was bliss. It came on a toasted square sourdough slice topped with quality peanut butter, freshly sliced banana wedges, a generous drizzle of Nutella, and crushed peanuts for a garnish and texture. This toast was wonderful. I would certainly order it again. The quality of the products coming out of Mikara Cafe are outstanding, not to mention delicious. I do recommend it. There's plenty of parking available.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT! Excellent parking too. Many new items; never B 4 served here. Friendly staff. Dubai chocolates, various coffees, and an array of fresh pastries.

    Iced strawberry matcha

When I first came to Mikara, I got the pistachio latte iced. The barista asked how it was and I said it was good but would be better if they added actual pistachios. She did!! It was amazing! Since then I have ventured and have tried other coffees, matcha, and food. All of it has been good. As of lately my kick has been their strawberry matcha. Not only does it taste like strawberry milk but it has the caffeine of matcha! Double win! My daughter does not like matcha but actually liked this drink. So triple win! In the picture is the Nutella iced latte and of course strawberry matcha. If you haven't tried it, you should. Oh and they are dog friendly. 4 wins!

I stopped by Mikara Cafe because it's a new spot in the area and I was curious to check it out. The owner who I think was the guy working was genuinely so kind and welcoming. You can tell he really cares about what he's building. I got a heart-shaped strawberry pistachio dessert that was not only cute but really good, and a hazelnut latte that totally surprised me. I'm pretty picky about coffee, and I usually hate when it's overly sweet, but he actually asked how sweet I wanted it, which made all the difference. It was honestly one of the best coffees I've had in a while. They also have viral Dubai Chocolate Strawberries here!! I'll be back for them next. PS. This place was open today, Sunday, so hours need to be fixed on here.

Stopped by after work for a a treat and coffee Service: 10/10 Not sure if he was a manager, but the gentleman was extremely kind and professional. I ordered through grub hub, so on my way home after work I could pick it up. I went to the cashier and was speaking to her about my order, he came around the corner and introduced himself and told me my order would be coming out shortly. When I left he greeted me by my name. I was treated like I was a regular customer there. Which was so refreshing and pleasant especially being my first time there. Pistachio Latte w/oat milk: 8/10 Creamy and tasty. The only thing I would improve on is a stronger espresso shot. Dubai Chocolate fruit cup:10/10 Sweet and soft strawberries Perfect resting chocolate and pistachio cream. This place is super clean and cute. I will definitely be back to try food, treats, and more coffee! Try them out!

Great ambiance with soft music and friendly owner. Delicious pistachio latte, taste tested the oat milk vs almond milk. We were split but Almond milk was my favorite. Amazing alternative to Starbucks across the parking lot.

Visiting San Diego from Colorado, and was looking for a special treat close to the place I was staying. Gave Miata a try because I wanted a yummy coffee and had never had Dubai chocolate. This little cafe did not disappoint! The staff was friendly and warm. The cafe was clean and bright. And the coffee (iced hazelnut latte) was really tasty--perfectly sweet and caffeinated.
