This is one of the few Rubio's left after their downsizing due to CA's minimum wage laws. They are located in a medium sized mall that is not quite a strip mall, but is not a full sized huge mall. Consequently, there is ample but crowded shared parking with several near by stores and restaurants. The people working here on our visit were friendly and provided good service. It was average noise level and quickly went from deserted to somewhat crowded during our visit. We got two especial fish tacos and a drink. Cost about $17.00 total. A bit pricey, but probably reasonable given inflation, COVID, and minimum wage laws. You can get slightly cheaper tacos elsewhere and especially at taco trucks. Rubio's usually has the best quality fried fish taco compared to other chains and is usually better in San Diego than LA/Orange County. However, the tacos on this visit were top notch. I was planning a day trip to Torrance on the Saturday of a week when I received a reward for a $3 off lunch entree, which arrived shortly after my lunch at a different Rubio's location, also on a Saturday. However, the reward was set to expire on Friday of that week. I was having such a busy week, being swamped with work, and there was just no way that I could go to Rubio's for lunch on a weekday. I had to let the reward go to waste, right? Not quite! I was able to find a workaround. On Rubio's online ordering platform, you can order ahead up to six days in advance, and so that's what I did. On Friday at lunchtime, I decided to see if I could place an order for pickup the next day and still redeem that reward. Sure enough, it worked! One thing to keep in mind was that reward would only work between the hours of 11 AM and 2 PM. I didn't try to see if a 2:30 PM pickup would work on Saturday, but it wouldn't have worked with my schedule anyways. My go-to at Rubio's is their Atlantic Salmon, but I had already gotten that particular protein on my most recent visit to Rubio's. This time, I chose something from the 5 under $10 menu, which is a menu of 5 different Rubio's entrees that you could get for less than $10, at least pretax. I chose one of the two cheaper entrees, the Baja Grill Chicken Burrito, which consists of all natural grilled chicken, melted cheese, guacamole, and salsa fresca. A relatively simple, no-frills burrito that would certainly pale in comparison to an Atlantic Salmon Burrito, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a comparable burrito elsewhere for only $6 (after the $3 off, that is) in today's economy. The burrito by itself, even without a side, may also suffice for one meal if you're trying to eat lighter. The burrito would come with a side of chips, but you can swap it out for beans, rice, or even Mexican street corn. I chose the no-fried pinto beans. Although not totally necessary since they have a salsa bar, you can also choose your salsas and other extras in your online order. For my burrito, I chose the Roasted Chipotle Salsa and the Jalapeno Citrus Hot Sauce. This Rubio's in Torrance is in Rolling Hills Plaza on the eastern corner of Crenshaw and PCH. You probably won't find an open parking stall directly in front of the restaurant or any of the other restaurants in that building, but there are plenty of spots in any other direction really, even on the west side of Crenshaw. On my last visit to a different Rubio's, my order was ready 5 minutes before my scheduled pickup time. On this visit, I arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled pickup time, and they had just started on my order. I didn't get it until about 8 minutes later. At least they were on time! The cups of salsa and hot sauce were only about half full, but like I said earlier, they have the salsa bar, so I could have gotten more if I wanted to. The no-fried pinto beans had a layer of melted cheese on top and even some melted cheese dripping off to the side. They weren't bad, but they certainly could have used more seasoning or at least some salt & pepper. I kind of regret not getting the chips because then I could have used a multitude of salsas from the salsa bar to go with the chips. The burrito met my expectations in terms of taste, but missed the mark by a longshot with the guacamole. There was guacamole smeared on the outside of the burrito, and there wasn't even that much guacamole inside the burrito! It almost made me wonder which side of my burrito had more guac?! lol I didn't really taste much of the melted cheese in the burrito, but I did taste a great deal of salsa fresca. I felt the amount of chicken inside my burrito was adequate, especially for the price point, but I also felt the chicken was overcooked a little, which reminded me why I don't order that burrito often. I kept my expectations in check this time, and they were actually met! There is definitely ample room for improvement in perfecting the Baja Grill Chicken Burrito, but I was overall fairly satisfied, so three stars it is then! I know some business owners perceive three stars as bad, but with how stringent my rating system is compared to others, three stars is actually not that bad at all! If I lived near Rolling Hills Plaza, where this Rubio's is located, I'd definitely be open to a return visit. It was a pretty quick lunch that I even had time to make one more quick stop before heading off to my volunteer gig afterwards. read more

So as I was eating half way through the burrito, as it got to the layers of beans. That's where I discovered the refried beans. So the server didn't take my order correctly. Rubio's has always been one of our favorites. Don't think we've every been disappointed with our meals. This location is great, clean and the customer service is always fast as well. Even when there is a big line they get thru the orders pretty fast. We love their bowls they have always with the shrimp and you can pretty much add any protein you'd like. They are fresh, flavorful and well served. I tend to be a Chip/salsa connoisseur if that's a thing ha ha. I can tell when a lot of love goes into a salsa and seeing if they are fresh. Their salsa's are amazing and they have different ones if you like spicy or mild they have something for everyone. There is always parking despite there being other restaurants so that's never a problem. Their bathrooms are clean and they keep them that way. Overall this place is great for a sit down lunch. 3 stars for the rude cashier who blatantly ignored us after we picked up a to go order. We have been getting take out from this location for a while and had no issues in the past. However tonight before we left we noticed one side of sour cream was missing from our order. That in itself isn't the issue so we thought we can quickly ask for it. The cashier once he handed us our food ignored and didn't acknowledge us. I understand there are orders to prepare and pack back he even went as far as to go to the dining room just get a pack of napkins while passively looking at us. Went to place an order for DoorDash for lunch for my husband and I. I usually go into the store to eat with my kids but today decided to DoorDash. I ALWAYS get a side of pico with my order. It's the sole reason I order the chips. Not a single time out of our weekly trips have I ever paid for pico. I have also asked my previous dashers to get a side of it and never had any problems. Until today. I asked our dasher to ask for a few sides as we ordered a side of chips. He asked the worker and they said no they charge for it. So I then called and they told me also they charge for it and there's no way to add it to my order. (Just a 1 oz side) which is enough for about 4 whole chips. It not even the fact that they charge for it, I have literally paid $5 for a side of ranch. But it's the fact that A- they said that they've "always" charged for it and B- that on the app there's literally NO option to add pico. Honestly we visit this place religiously and I just paid $40 for a bowl, a kids meal, and a side of chips and they can't throw in some chopped tomatoes with lime and salt? The clientele that this place may have someone who doesn't know the difference of what a REAL taco tastes like. Take someone here if they don't care for Mexican American sorta fast food restaurant. Catch my drift....We ordered shrimp taco, original battered fish taco, 2 steak and chicken. 5 tacos for $23-24 and that these days is steep! Plus they don't even give you much meat. Like what is their value here? Quality verses Quantity and they got 0/5. Very sad. We walked out of there still hungry and needless to say we won't be back here at all. Not the best but not entirely the worst, but I would not waste my money here. They only give you 4 medium sized shrimp and all I remembered eating was the tortilla so how is that healthy but rather cheap on ingredients. Rubios mustthink we're stupid. How can anyone let this happen knowing the reviews in here said the same thing. Waiting was quite ok, 15 mins so it's served supposedly "fresh" but the minced cubed chicken that you can buy at costco is found in this chicken taco, so dry that we needed more water. Ambiance isn't all that, typically regular chair table seating, some for 2 some for 4. The over priced no value nor quality was not their main concern. Rubio's Coastal Grill off Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance is in Rolling Hills Plaza. Nearly a decade ago all Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill restaurants became Rubio's Coastal Grill restaurants to focus on their seafood offerings. A lot of their locations were closing, especially near June/July of 2024. In August 2024 they were sold to good folk who wanted to keep their signature taste, and that's what we found today. When I was living in Rancho Palos Verdes from 2005 to 2014 I tended to eat Subway at least once a week and save Rubio's for every three weeks, the mayonnaise based sauces (if I can guess at their secret ingredients and recipes) giving my taste buds a decadent taste, with especially their delicious fish or shrimp burritos, and it's a feasting too that keeps the body strong, as at the time I was obsessed with martial arts, training in Capoeira, Makulele, Tai Chi Chuan, Kung Fu, and Dahn Mu Do. I wanted to make sure I got the good stuff including protein and that I myself didn't look like a giant loaded burrito. Rubio's Coastal Grill has super fresh ingredients and is to me very healthy for the body too. I had a lobster burrito just now * and * a lobster bowl. I was that hungry, I missed these Rubio's flavours so much, and my New Yorker tough as nails stepmom is just that sweet. She exclaimed something about how that it was a very good deal to get the lobster bowl under $25, and also to get the lobster burrito under $25 too. That lady got two fish tacos (The Original Fish Taco trademark) and had the good idea to get chips and guacamole. My langostino lobster stuffs was an OMAD one-meal-a-day type of happy nom noms because it was my lunch and dinner combined. The lobster bowl came with a mild mayo sauce and a butter sauce which, I combined the ingredients which came also with guacamole and a lemon. My burrito had a different tasting sauce from the bowl, subtle but appreciated. Her man decided on The Coastal Trio, which I think was two different kinds of fish tacos, mahi mahi and salmon? His third taco was shrimp. We all really enjoyed it. Rubio's Coastal Grill seems to have a menu with five times more multiplied items to choose from than the Rubio's Mexican Grill of our yesteryears. There is definitely an upscale vibe for "Mexican"/Californio fast food. (Our parking lot time right in front of the restaurant was limited to forty minutes.) The blond wood looks swanky. Along with the giant fish art piece. It was fun to revisit, but to have it different also so thus to refresh and reload. The employees were very nice to us. They have beer, too! Including one craft beer which was nice for me. I went with the Mango Mahi Mahi Taco and it was just piled with ingredients including a lot of fresh mango. Every flavor went together really well in the soft taco for a nice medley in my mouth. It was huge and just one taco filled me up! $5 for a taco and $4.75 for a bottled craft beer. We used to come to Rubios with our kids each TUE for Taco Tuesday... Now that they have revamped their menu (I had strong trepidation - why fix what ain't broke?), we come twice a week. My 4 year old asked yesterday if he could have some "shrimperinos because they were yummy". The new menu allows you to more easily see the entree options: - Burritos and tacos as you always could with their former menu - Bowls (like Chipotle but pre-fixed) - Quesadillas (like Chipotle again!) And then you add your choice of protein - chicken, steak, shrimp or fish And God dammit, those shrimperinos are so well seasoned. They may always have been but the sauces and all the fillers in a burrito perhaps masked the deliciousness of those suckers. In a bowl, the shrimp show all their glory in an unfiltered glow. Took the wife to Rubio's for Mother's Day at about 6:46 pm. She wanted a shrimp burrito. I looked online and saw that these guys served them and drove right over. Got back home and asked her how was it on a scale of 1 to 10 she said a TWO!!! She only found only 6 shrimps inside on one side on one side and a bunçh of rice on the other side... I called back to complain and to give the manager a chance to make it right. He told me each burrito has 8 shrimps I told him she was counting. She even took pictures. The guy was unprofessional basically call her a lier. The reason why I posted the time is I wanted you to go back and take a look at the camera hoping that there's something in the kitchen where you can see who's making what I was wearing all black shorts and glasses. After speaking to the night manager he said, That's unfortunate! but wasn't willing to hey next time you come in blah blah blah... Basically say go jump in the lake. I don't really remember the last time I wrote a negative review for a restaurant because usually they are willing to make it better in some kind of way either offering to replace it or whatever Rubio's wasn't willing to do any of that!
