    Happy Sunday.

My new favorite place. My reviews for restaurants have gone down in number because I really don't have to go anywhere else to eat. Their salads and sandwiches are so flavorful. The bread is the best part. I have to control myself from asking for more. Prices are fair until you ask for a fountain drink. I'm a water cup kind of girl. I'm happy Urbane Cafe exists.

I've been here a couple of times. Once when they first opened and just recently. The place is small. But clean and well lit. You have the option to order through the r self service kiosks or in person. I've had the tri tip sandwich and the turkey cranberry Brie. Both are pretty good. It comes with a salad and balsamic dressing which I like. I do believe you can switch the sides to soup and other options. The staff is pretty friendly too. I'll come back.

Seriously my favorite spot. I love the food here. Service is wonderful. It's quick bite to eat, good sized portions delicious healthy food, not the kind that makes you sleepy and sloppy lol. I'm so happy they opened this place in Pedro! Definitely recommend.

New and clean with plenty of parking. Tons of outdoor seating. I gave it 3 stars because the Salmon Bowl was horrible and the BBQ tri tip sandwich was delicious. Salmon bowl - Dry!! Rice was so dry and felt undercooked. Salmon was so dry and not flaky at all. I could make better salmon at home. BBQ tri tip sandwich - Delicious soft bread. Warm. Good flavors. I would get sandwiches over the bowl for sure. Download the app for a free cookie.

It was the best of Urbane Cafes, it was the worst of Urbane Cafes. I honestly wasn't planning to stop by Urbane Cafe in Palos Verdes since it was way out of the way for me to go. However, I got an email announcing their grand opening there. "Oh cool," I thought to myself. The email also announced that if you order a sandwich, salad, or bowl between Jul 11 and Jul 18, you could get a free sandwich, salad, or bowl on your next visit. "Oh cool!!" I thought to myself. I was planning a day trip on Saturday, and I figured I could add a trip to this recently opened Urbane Cafe to my itinerary since it was just down the 110 from where I was at. I had to take the Channel St/Pacific Ave exit, turn right on Gaffey, and go left on Capitol before finally arriving at Western. Urbane Cafe in Palos Verdes is in a strip mall on the southwest corner of Capitol and Western. It appears this strip mall is going to be totally revamped because Google Streets shows a totally different set of businesses there. If you see or know of Sun's Pet Grooming, that is now Urbane Cafe. I hadn't really heard of Urbane Cafe before this year, but instantly became a fan when they opened a location in Long Beach, much closer to me. I love how the team in Long Beach treats all their customers like family, and I especially love the food they make there that I even got to share some with my coworkers via catering order. Unfortunately, I got none of those vibes on my first visit to this Palos Verdes location that I just had to start this review with some Charles Dickens. Since it was their second day of operation, they had a tent just outside the cafe that was supposed to welcome customers, but when I arrived, there was nobody under the tent! They had a table underneath where there were flyers advertising 20% off catering until August 31, Service Member Appreciation Days, and the offer I mentioned earlier in this review. But not having a human element aspect of the welcome tent was really a missed opportunity for some customers like yours truly; I might even argue that it was ominous! I had placed my order in the app because in order to qualify for the free entree, you have to place an order online or in the app; an in-person order wouldn't work, but several customers did this, presumably because they don't have the app yet. For whatever reason, I wasn't given a welcome by any of the employees, but when the other customers entered the cafe, the cashier would say welcome, and the rest of the team would follow suit. But my presence wasn't acknowledged? What am I, chopped liver?! I went to the rear of the cafe where they had 3 shelves of online pickup orders. One bag was already ready, but there were no employees overseeing the online orders. That bag wasn't mine, but since there wasn't any employee there, I could have easily taken that customer's order, which I'd never want to do! They also didn't announce when an online order was ready for pickup, so I had to keep a watchful eye to make sure nobody would take my order. I picked up my order about 4 minutes before my scheduled pickup time, but am not sure exactly when it was ready since, like I said, they didn't say my name when my order was ready for pickup. I sat at a table that wasn't cleaned up after the previous customer even though there were a handful of other tables inside since I'd much rather a family to be eating at a cleaner table instead. It wasn't that busy inside, so I was a little surprised nobody picked up table cleaning duties during my visit. I ordered the Salmon Salad with Chipotle Ranch dressing, which came with a side of focaccia bread. The salad was chock full of leafy greens, which I could tell after shaking the container to spread the Chipotle Ranch around. They could have added a little more of all the other toppings like the salmon, but especially the edamame. The jicama and mango salsa weren't as fresh tasting. The Chipotle Ranch wasn't very flavorful either, and that's one of my favorite dressings! I had to use some sriracha sauce to add some flavor to my salad. And lastly, the focaccia bread was a whole lot of nothing! I know it's just bread, but there should have been *some* flavor at least. Did they forget to brush the oil on top of the bread? Maybe. My only interaction with an employee was when I asked one where the utensils were, but she simply said she included one in my takeout bag. Well okay I guess, but it didn't totally answer my question. However, there were very few customers inside at the time, and I definitely felt like a fly on the wall. The cashier who made her rounds cleaning passed by me a couple times, including when I left, but she didn't even wish me a good day, perhaps a microcosm of the indifference in their service. The Salmon Salad didn't taste bad, but my overall experience at this Urbane Cafe was so lacking that, no joke, I even had to go to Chick-fil-A afterwards to finish my dinner. I doubt I'll return to this location.

Urbane Cafe is now in the South Bay! Today was the grand opening of their newest restaurant in Rancho Palos Verdes. It was my first time to try Urbane Cafe and I was impressed right from the start. I was greeted with a vibrant "Welcome to Urbane Cafe" and plenty of smiles the moment I walked in. Their menu consists of sandwiches, salads, bowls and soups. For this first visit I chose to try their UC Banh Mi and their Mediterranean Bowl. The UC Banh Mi is packed with tender roasted chicken, cilantro, cucumbers, pickled carrots, fresno chilis and pickled white radish. All the fillings are smothered with this amazing sweet chili aioli. For the bread, they use fire baked focaccia bread. That focaccia bread truly makes this sandwich special! It's served fresh and warm and comes out so soft. They make the bread fresh in house. The bread along with the delicious sandwich fillings made for one awesome bahn mi! I would definitely get this again. Equally as good was the Mediterranean Bowl. This bowl comes with mixed whole grain rice, kale, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, hummus and tomato cucumber salsa. I chose to add chicken to my bowl. I was impressed that you could choose what kind of chicken to add (i.e bbq chicken, grilled chicken, cilantro chicken, spicy chicken). I chose to get cilantro chicken and this paired well with all the veggies and hummus. This was one flavor packed bowl! I also loved how this always came with the fire baked foccacia bread. Aside from the food, I chose to get a drink. They offer Dragon Fruit Agua Fresca, Watermelon Lemonade, Old Fashion Lemonade, Iced Tea and Batch Craft Soda. I was a fan of the Dragon Fruit Agua Fresca. It was so refreshing! Last but not least- they have dessert here too! They have fresh baked cookies. Options included chocolate chip, white chocolate cranberry, oatmeal and chocolate. I tried the chocolate chip and it was the perfect treat to wrap up a good meal. I am so happy to see them in Rancho Palos Verdes. Though this was my first visit to Urbane Cafe ever, I know it won't be my last.

The food tasted fresh and delicious, even though we took it to-go! Despite looking busy from the outside, the service was impressively quick and efficient. Overall, a great experience! (Salmon bowl doesn't contain dressing in the picture, my own preference)

Was pleased to come into Urbane Cafe on their grand opening day! It was pretty busy but luckily didn't need to wait too long to order, I ended up ordering the Baja bowl but was heavily debating between that or a sandwich, I can confidently say I couldn't have gone wrong with either choice! The bowl was absolutely delicious I finished every last bite, if I were gonna change it at all I would probably just add salsa next time to make it spicy! My group all got sandwiches and I was able to taste test them all and they were all soooo yummy, & the bread is truly amazing! We also had to try their chocolate chip cookies, and those were absolutely perfect in every way, I will literally be back just for those! I also tried their dragon fruit lemonade and it was super tasty, it's safe to say everything was a near 10/10 & I will 100% be looking forward to coming back! :) Side note- the customer service was impeccable, very friendly and inviting environment!!

The panko crumbs on the chicken was nice and light. It was perfectly fried and not too hard/over crispy. The meat was also juicy. My toddler ate 3 large pieces of it and kept complimenting how tasty it was. The kim chi fried rice had a great fried egg in it and had great flavor. Even the side of rice was delicious! It was moist and sticky without being overcooked. The bad: I didn't get to experience the food court dining in the grocery store. The interesting: The dishes came with a side salad with orange dressing, pickled yellow radish, and some citrus wedges. The dishes came with 3 pickled side dishes (including kim chi). and a soup.

Probably because it's Korean, in a Korean supermarket, where the competitors that folded shop were not always. Other stands also had a freshness issue - not much turnover as most visitors want Korean. Each time I shop at HMart, I see big soup bowls from Hansol. And I think, as a giant soup lover, I need to get me some. It always looks so good. Unfortunately, it does not taste as good as it looks. For example, the 2 rib special looks fantastic but the meat is tough to eat. The noodles are flat, need some flare. The rice bowls lack flavor. I see all these glowing reviews and know I'm swimming against the tide. Probably sacrilege for me to say that the Hmart prepared food tastes better than this restaurant... but I find this to be the case. The prices - not great. You pay for the convenience of being in a market. Counterintuitive as the ambience is what what you'd expect to pay for.

Inside, with its casual decor, is large enough to accommodate 16 people max. The friendly waitress brought water and menus right away. After browsing through the menus, we ordered the following dishes: Papaya Salad with Shrimps: The lettuce leaves were super fresh, and the papaya strings were nicely crunchy. The blend of fish sauce with lime juice was refreshingly tangy and slightly sweet. We just wished there were more than two shrimps in the salad. House Noodle with Seafood (Flat Noodle): The broth was clear, light and umami. The flat noodles had a very nice texture and the portion was generous. The fish fillets, shrimp, and mussels were pleasantly fresh. Kra Paw over Rice w/ Fried Egg: The ground pork was well seasoned and paired nicely with the perfectly cooked white rice. The sauteed onion slices provided a lovely aroma and subtle sweetness. The runny fried egg on top gave a nice accent and extra flavor. Yen Tao Fo: Visually, the whole dish is pinker than a Barbie room. The broth with fermented tofu curd and chili sauce was quite exquisite and polarizing: spicy, sweet, and tangy. The flat noodles had a nice firm texture. The seafood was fresh, and the snow fungus and bok choy were tenderly crunchy. The prices were reasonable and the food was excellent. Highly recommended.

Thrown for a loop by the sausage appetizer - omg crispy casing holding flavors not found anywhere else that I know of - even the Laotian restaurant I almost went to- served with peanuts, chilis and slices of garlic that didn't taste like overwhelming garlic, just fresh tasting to balance out the rich bites of authentic Thai sausage. Ordinarily, I don't care for the texture of shredded beef, but that's not on them, and the food was terrific. The banchan were plentiful and tasty; the cabbage kimchi was a standout. So why only 3 stars? From the beginning, the waiter, an older gentleman, was unsmiling. That's ok. I don't need him to smile or be friendly. I just need him to be a good waiter. But he wasn't -- at least not to me. He didn't check back on me even once. Never asked if I needed water, more banchan, another beer, never even glanced at me. He passed me multiple times, however, to dote on the other 3 tables that were occupied while I was there. I was the only one he completely ignored. There are three possible explanations that I could come up with, since when I spoke to him he assured me I had not offended him in some way. The first explanation, although unacceptable, isn't sinister. The other two are problematic. 1. I was the only one sitting by myself, and he thought he'd get a bigger tip at the other tables. It's not an ok thing to do: ignoring solo diners. But it happens, and I know everyone's got to make a living. This is the *most* benign explanation I can come up with. Or . . . 2. I was the only non-Asian in the place. 3. I was the only person with a visible disability in the place. I gave the waiter a chance. I calmly and quietly asked him to explain why he had ignored me completely and served the other tables to my exclusion. His answer: "I didn't want to disturb you." No, I didn't buy that either, and I told him so. I'm not quick to jump to conclusions like #2 or #3, but it's not looking good at this point for Kim's BBQ. I have friends who live and eat in PV, and God help this restaurant if I ever conclude that either of those is the reason for my treatment today. If I ever conclude that, I will not let it go. This restaurant strikes a great balance between a modern atmosphere and authentic Korean food. Even…read moreduring the weekend lunch rush, I've always been able to get seated without much of a wait since the dining room is fairly spacious. I've tried quite a few dishes here, but my favorites are the galbi, tofu soups, and dolsot bibimbap. The galbi is definitely on the pricier side for the portion, but the quality and flavor of the beef make it worth ordering every time. The dolsot bibimbap is a generous portion, especially if you're sharing another entrée, and the crispy rice at the bottom is done just right. My go-to tofu soup is the kimchi and beef with medium spice, which always hits the spot. Everything comes out piping hot and is served with a generous selection of banchan. The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. If you're in the South Bay and craving authentic Korean food without making the drive to Koreatown, this is an easy recommendation.

We got here on a Friday mid-afternoon and they were able to accommodate our large party fairly quickly, which was nice. Service was okay- there were about 2 people taking our orders. I'm not quite sure if it's because our group was large but some items came out fairly late/they needed to be reminded of our orders because it wasn't coming out in a timely manner. We ordered everything from tofu soup, kalgooksoo, dumplings, beef, cold noodle soup, fish, and etc...The portions are generous but not all the food tasted good. Please don't get me wrong, it wasn't the worst but the flavor was lacking in some (such as the cold noodle and kalgooksoo dishes). Out of what was ordered, I would say the dumplings were the best. Parking is able in the plaza. Overall, an okay place but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to come back to.

I ended up coming really close to closing time but the service was still fast. Food was HOT & of course made to order. I did burn my tongue.... But it's okay I had a cold Thai tea to help suppress that burn. Thai tea 4/5 -- on the sweeter side for me. But still carries that robust Thai flavor to it. Spicy chicken 5/5 -- huge kick to it. Looks innocent... is deadly. I loved the spiciness. I'm all about spice so this was really nice to try. Shrimp fried rice 5/5 -- I can't believe a shrimp fried this rice... it's splendid. Uh-mah-zing. We love her. Perfect shrimp to rice ratio. Not too salty. Perfect amount of umami 12pc shrimp dumplings-- 4/5 oooo they were HOT. Flavor could be improved a bit, but otherwise texture and quality was delightful. Parking is in the plaza. It's a small place maybe 10 tables max? They have a single use restroom as well.

This place has only 8 tables so either you come on a good day when its empty which we did but it can get filled up quickly due to a large party or families. We ordered the cucumber salad appetizer...pan fried nappa pork dumplings and pork scallion buns.....and They had nooooo FLAVOR. The cucumber salad was diced to oblivion ..we might as well have gotten spoons instead of chopsticks....no spice just drenched in water and soy sauce....no garlic...no szechuan pepper oil. The dumpling and buns had no flavors....no ginger...no seasonings... my wife had to put SALT IN THE CUCUMBERS! ....yes!.... SALT!.... Parking was plenty...
