It might be nostalgia, but I have a soft spot for California Pizza Kitchen. It stands amongst the family-friendly restaurants like Red Lobster and Olive Garden where your family would dress up to go enjoy a nice dinner at a reasonable price. I went to the doctor's recently and decided to stop by CPK for a spot of lunch. The Avocado Club Egg Rolls were incredibly crispy with a gooey interior of cheese, avocado, and savory chicken with bacon. The egg rolls came with dips like spicy ranch and cool ranch. I prefer the cool ranch due to the dill flavor. I think it's made in the kitchen. So enjoyable! I dipped the toasty bread into the seasoned olive oil and was shocked by the robust oregano flavor. It was a sunny day, so we ordered a Margherita Pizza with Spicy Pepperoni. If you're worried about heat--don't be! The spicy pepperoni was not spicy, just flavorful. The pizza tasted fresh, especially because of the basil. Our waitress was polite, efficient, and sweet. They gave us plenty of food, so our lunch leftovers were also our dinner! We also ordered drinks like the Pacific Thyme and the Fresh Strawberry Mango Cooler. I loved the Pacific Thyme. You could taste the thyme, but it was in no way insulting to the sense. On this visit, our table ordered: the cauliflower piccata ($22.49); the shrimp scampi zucchini fettuccini ($21.49); a California Club pizza ($20.99); a decaf coffee ($2.99); a lemonade ($3.49) and a Coke ($3.69). With tax ($7.70), the ticket was $82.84, before gratuity. The cauliflower piccata is vegetarian entrée featuring a breaded, pan-seared cauliflower steak served on a bed of linguini. Per the name, the linguini has a piccata sauce. The scampi dish was interesting. The serving of noodles was reduced by replacing a proportion of pasta with shaved zucchini, in the shape of fettuccini pasta. The pizza was a reimaging of a California Club sandwich, in the form of a pizza: a cheese pizza w/ bacon; with fresh greens, tomato and avocado on top. This is the first time I have visited this, or any other California Pizza Kitchen, in over a decade. I am not complaining; I am simply surprised with the current menu. I'm aware of advertising campaigns that take place around me; I keep tabs of social media; and yet, I have not seen any advertising communicating CPK's focus on a (relatively) healthier menu. The restaurant is clean and you are greeted with a friendly face when you open the door. My server, Forrest was great and ensured my check was correct before he gave it to me. With their happy hour from 3 - 6, Monday - Friday I was happy I made it on time. I ordered the Dynamite Shrimp. It is delicious with a slightly sweet Asian flavor. Although it says dynamite, it is not spicy. I also got the wedge salad. It's not a happy hour menu item but it's only $8.00. Don't forget that warm crusty bread with the balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Always tasty. My only knock on this location is they need to redo the coating on the front doors. A pleasant surprise! The hubby and I have visited the Redondo Beach location off and on for years until it closed. Those experiences were usually around a 3 or 3.5. Have also visited other locations years ago but, this Rolling Hills Plaza location was a first visit and makes more sense as we're more local to this location. Fortunate to get the closest disability parking space to the restaurant and wheeled my mom in. We were welcomed by the front of the house and brought us to our table. For starters, chips and guac hit the spot and they brought us comp bread and oil. Mom is a very light eater so a kid's Hawaiian style pizza was her entree and a side of strawberries and pineapple. All very good! For me the charcuterie salad (half order) was so delightful. The veggies, nuts, cheeses, apple slices, and meats were a great mix. I would definitely get this salad again. Although everything was tasty, we had plenty of leftovers to boot. Shout out to Brooke, our server! She was so efficient, kind, and on top of everything. 4 stars and likely to return! You can never go wrong with CPK!! We came in on a slightly rainy day craving some pizza, glad to say that cpk met all of our cravings! We were sat down pretty quickly and had such a nice server. She came by every so often to check in on us and if we needed any refills on our waters or if our food was okay. We had trouble paying at first because of the machine being slow but she was so patient with us and helped us out, I wish I got her name!! The service on a busy Sunday was pretty fast and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary bread that we get while we wait for our order. I ordered a new item on their menu which was the steak salad. It was good overall, but the pieces of steak were overcooked and too dry. Margherita pizza on thin crust was good, the original bbq chicken with pineapple on cauliflower crust was also good. The energy was nice, people celebrating birthdays and conversations kept at a decent volume. The good: I ordered a kids pepperoni pizza which came with a pink lemonade. I also tried the brownie and snickerdoodle cookie. I am happy they have a kids menu. I like that their food options have different international fusions. Both of my toddlers enjoyed the pizza. One kids' pizza fed both of my toddlers. The bad: The desserts weren't great. The cookie wasn't chewy and lacked cinnamon flavor. The brownie was too sweet and dense.You're given free slices of bread with olive oil. The bread is a bit tough. Although I really enjoy CPK's food, I would 100% recommend ordering delivery instead. You could live 50 minutes away and still get your food faster than we did dining in. This review is for their take out. There was a fabulous deal on door dash so we decided to give this place a try. My wife wanted to try the shaking beef pasta and as I was going to order something from another place, ended up getting the kid size pizza pepperoni, sausage and mushroom as I've never tried their pizza out and wanted to see how it tasted (for future reference) and am glad I did not order a regular size. The pizza dough was unbelievably tough to chew but flavor and the ingredients were tasty. My wife said the shake beef was too salty for her taste but the beef was tender. What brought this review down from three stars to two is the way the togo order was bagged. No bag or drink holder for the milk that came w the pizza. The bag for the shaken beef was not sealed so anyone can tamper with your food if they want. I would never order delivery from CPK again. read more

So I have been going to this location since it opened. I've always appreciated how big the menu is. There's lots to choose from. Service is always good unless it's super busy. But after the last 3 to 5 times we have gone this last time I said to my husband, I will not be eating here again. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps to start and we split the chicken piccata. I don't know what was going on, but this isn't the first time the chicken was disgusting. Honestly didn't feel like it was cooked in the kitchen. More like warmed up in a microwave. The chicken for our lettuce wraps was gross, but the chicken for the pasta dish was honestly non-edible. Not sure why this place has gone downhill with food quality or if this is corporate, looking at ways to cut corners by using less quality items sure doesn't reflect the price that's for sure. People should not settle, especially how expensive going out has become. The last few times we've gone. It's taken them over 30 minutes to bring bread to the table. Also, a few months back they had this wonderful item on the menu which was a salmon and crispy rice. Then all of a sudden you go to order it and they don't have the crispy rice. He goes "above and beyond" to ensure that our order is correct and, without being asked, brings us water [with lemon] and that if we order pizza, each piece has been cut through completely. If it has not been, he returns it to the kitchen and brings it back immediately. We eat here regularly before the South Bay Film Society movie. Louie anticipates that we have boxes for "take home." My family has been to CPK many times over the years but this last visit was a disappointment. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm and it was busy, as expected. We only had to wait 15 minutes for a table which was good. Unfortunately things went downhill after that. The restaurant seemed to have trouble figuring out who our waiter was, and once that was determined, where he might be. Two other servers stopped by while we were waiting and asked if we had been helped yet. We said no and they said they'd try to go find our guy. One of them came back a few minutes later to tell us triumphantly that he had been found! At last, a few minutes after that, he actually came to our table to take our order. We ordered 4 pizzas and then settled in to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. Every 10-15 minutes our waiter stopped by to ask if we needed anything. I dunno, maybe our food? And we got told, oh, your pizzas will be up soon. Oh, the kitchen's kind of backed up. Oh, it's really busy tonight. Well, why is that my concern? You have a certain size restaurant and the dinner rush had crested; there were even a few empty tables. So you need to have a kitchen that can handle the number of diners you can seat. Isn't that kind of a basic concept in running a restaurant? Also, I watched a couple of ladies one table over who had sat down a little before us. While we waited they ordered, received their meals (pasta dishes), finished them, and got to go boxes while we were still waiting for our pizzas. In the meantime our waiter brought us bread and dipping oil. OK, nice. But then he let the dirty dishes accumulate on the table. Even after our pizzas finally arrived (45, yes 45, minutes after we sat down), he left a stack of 6-8 small serving plates and 2 oil dishes piled up, plus dirty napkins, and just crammed our pizza dishes in where there was space. Really? You can't clear the table so we have some room to eat? Also, the pizzas were not hot. More like warm, and starting to get a little glaze or crust showing where the formerly fresh, hot pizza had been sitting somewhere drying our for a while. So I suspect maybe they dropped or lost one of our pizzas, and decided to hold the whole order until that one was made, in order to deliver them all at once. But, that's just a guess since they never said anything about it. The pizzas themselves were pretty good, but given the cost and the wait, getting our food actually fresh seems like a reasonable expectation. A pretty crappy experience overall. We won't be back, and I recommend anyone reading this review to take their business elsewhere as well. You can do better. read more

While I appreciated her checking in with me, I later observed what appeared to be Laura drinking alongside another staff member with blonde hair near the high-top tables in the back of the restaurant. 2025.03.15 Ordered the 3pizza/caesar salad bundle through the app. Great deal for $60 with limited options. We had BBQ, pepperoni, and Thai chicken. (The other choice is cheese). You have to manually add utensils and bread. If you add bread +1 quantity, it means one piece of bread so make sure you add multiple pieces if you want more than 1. Food was ready for pickup and packaged well. We enjoyed all three pizzas and the Caesar had huge shavings of Parmesan cheese. Haven't been to CPK in a while so this was a great re-entry. read more

Stopped in before a movie at the AMC and Nicole greeted us and was very friendly and seated us right away. Very busy restaurant but they take time to make sure you're having a good time. Our server Jackie was very spirted and friendly. She was honest when he asked for a recommendation and very attentive. She was just wonderful. The salads are very satisfying and a half size is plenty for dinner. The Cobb salad is filled with yummy ingredients and the BBQ salad is also divine.
